“Whaaaat?” Naia blinked several times before finally caving into her usual self and getting closer with a flurry of bubbles, “So your momma and papa are from two different places?” She gasped and started to swim around Pounamu, “No wonder you look so cool! That’s awesome!” She grinned, completely honest in her open response, “Did your parents just like this area so they settled here? How did they even meet? My family would never let me go where the Moakai live! Too dangerous my gramma says. Though she thinks everything is dangerous!”
Naia giggled before finally slowing down, “Sorry. That’s just so amazing and I would love to hear all about them! You must have an exciting life, Namu!”

Naia’s movements and the flurry of questions made Pounamu’s mind spin. Oh this was a lot! The girl almost stumbled before kicking her feet to keep herself straight in the water, “Uh…” She twisted her fingers together before glancing towards Naia who had positioned herself closer to her left side, “My mother’s family...is here. I live with my aunty because….” Her voice caught and she stopped the sentence before offering quietly, “They were adventurers together. I haven’t seen them in a long time though…”
Once again the threat of tears stung her bi-colored eyes. Why was she so intent on crying today? What a great first impression she was giving Naia.

“Adventurers!” Naia gasped before the realization of what Pounamu was implying sunk in, “Oooh, oh.” She bit her bottom lip before reaching out to cover the other girl’s entwined hands with her own, “Maybe they just got caught up in something.” She offered with a small smile, “As it is being an adventurer sounds amazing. Almost like a story if they fell in love with each other despite everything.”
Different races, different waters...how lovely.
Maybe one day she could do the same? Just without the whole missing aspect. If only someone could find them….wait, wait! “Oh!” Naia squeezed Pounamu’s hands, “I want to be an adventurer when I grow up! What if I go out there and find your parents if they don’t come back soon?” It was a far-fetched idea but she was an optimistic youngling. Naia always believed that anything and everything was possible!

“Adventurer….but it’s so dangerous.” Whispered Pounamu with wide eyes, “Why do that?” Still she couldn’t help but to feel the warmth that the other girl was sharing with her. She was being so eager to help, so optimistic that it was touching. This time the tears that stung her eyes were not from sadness or shame but rather from something else. Naia is so kind… Perhaps a bit too bold for Pounamu’s safe lifestyle but still.
“How would you….really?” She shook her head, “It’s okay I mean at this point…”

“Shhhh.” Naia stopped Pounamu’s words, “Anything is possible, right? Why not have some sort of future plan? I was going to be an adventurer anyways!” She winked playfully, “So I can have this as a quest for the future. Maybe you could even come with me!”
She was so excited to get this started! But first she had some growing up to do of course...speaking of time where was her brother? Maybe I have been gone for too long. It was one thing to have fun sneaking away for a little bit and a totally different situation if her brothers told her gramma. She shouldn’t waste more time then since it was probably getting late.
“My brothers will be looking for me now but it was really nice to meet you, Namu. Can we meet around here again? I’ll have to look for your aunt’s jewelry shop and we can actually play next time! I know some really good hidey holes and fun places around here.”
She smiled, “It really was nice to meet you Namu.” Naia motioned towards the market, “If you wanna come after me I’m swimming back to the market now, okay?” That said Naia started her trek back towards where she knew her brothers would be looking for her. She probably would get a good earful but it was definitely worth it now that she knew Pounamu!
And maybe one day they would go on some great adventure together! Naia definitely hoped so!
