oO Finally, a Task - Class Affinity Solo Oo XXXXXXXXX..Word CountXXXXXXXXXX637 ”Is there anything I can do to help?” Devika asked an oban man who was passing out some swords to some men and women who looked about her age. “Do you know how to wield a sword?” He asked simply. Devika shook her head as she answered, ”No but I can learn!” She said enthusiastically. “I don’t have time to train anybody right now, the dretch are almost upon us!” Sensing the conversation was over, Devika left the man alone to do his work. It seemed like everyone was the same. Everyone wanted help but no one wanted to train her to help. It was a stupid cycle. She couldn’t help that she hadn’t found anybody to train her in anything she found interesting. Devi wandered around the camp trying to find somewhere she could be helpful. If only Kai were here then at least she’d have some direction! But he was over in Belrea and she was so worried about him being so far away. It was while she was worrying about him that she noticed a large central tent that had a bunch of people going in and out of it. They didn’t seem like they had a lot of uniforms on so she didn’t think it was the command center or anything so Devika wandered over there. Men and women were carrying supplies in and out of the tent, some were even helping injured people into the tent. It seemed the front lines had met and now the injured were filtering in. This must be the medical tent. Devi peeked her head in and nearly got run over by people running in and out. “YOU. Move out of the doorway!” An older man shouted at her from a bedside across the tent. She scrambled in and stood just inside the doorway. Standing there awkwardly, she surveyed the room, the amount of injured people was starting to increase just while she was watching. “What are you doing just standing there?” The old oban man said again but this time he was taking long strides towards her. She bounced on the balls of her feet with nervous energy. “If you’re just going to stand there then come with me.” He gestured her to the other side of the tent before thrusting some cloth into her hands. “Put pressure here!” He indicated a large gash on a shifter’s leg that was bleeding. She put the cloth over the wound but didn’t really put that much pressure on it. The oban healer noticed and quickly put his hands over hers and put his weight behind it applying the appropriate pressure. “Like this. We need to stop the bleeding while I try and heal the wound.” Devi nodded and applied the appropriate pressure. She thought her hands felt a little strange and she was surprised to see when she looked down to see they were glowing. Devika looked up to see the old man was looking down at her, a sparkle in his eye as he watched her hands. “It appears you have a gift for healing. Good, we can use that right now. Let me do the healing though so you don’t weary yourself out before we can give you some proper instruction. Just don’t focus your intent on healing and you’ll stop.” He added on seeing her confusion. So she was actually good at something? She knew she had a little magical experience from that one time but healing? This meant she could help people in more than one way! This meant whenever her brother goes off and gets himself hurt she’d have a way to patch him up! Devika nodded and did as she was instructed. For now she was just going to help whoever she could in whatever way she could.

oO Step One: Admitting You Have a Problem - Prentice Growth Quest Oo XXXXXXXXX..Word CountXXXXXXXXXX741The last couple of weeks had been like the good old days. Brother and sister inseparable and conquering the world! She had made some trips into Oba for her training but things normally didn’t take too long and Devika was always back in Matori to keep her brother out of trouble. Yet, there was a decision that was looming over her heart. The weeks were passing and she was enjoying them but that was also the problem. Time was passing too quickly for her. Sooner, rather than later, her brother was going to have to leave again to escort his friend to Belrea and he would expect her to go with him. Or at the very least have a decision made and a reason for that decision. She felt the magic fade from her as her mind became unfocused. “Devika!” Her teacher shouted, snapping her out of her own thoughts. ”Oh, I’m sorry Lord Koriyan. I was….lost in my thoughts.” She sighed as she turned physically away from her work. “You know the rules here. When you’re here, you’re learning. If you want to be able to achieve getting to soul linker status we can’t afford these childish daydreams.” He said rather harshly. Devika felt all the bottled up emotion come out of her at once in response. ”If only that's what they were! I’d give anything for it to just be a childish daydream. At least that would mean it’d go away! I feel like I’m faced with a yes or no question but the only answer provided is no. I want to be able to say yes, I really do...I just don’t know how.” Lord Koriyan raised an eyebrow at her, “Perhaps start with ‘y’?” Devika couldn’t help the almost manic laughter that followed. His easy jest was like the key to the floodgates of her bottled up emotions. The laughter died down and turned into sobs which eventually gave way to sniffles and whimpers while her mentor watched her go through the varying stages of emotions.
“Do you feel any better?” He asked, his voice softer than usual, almost having a gentleness to it. Devika could only nod her head slightly. She did feel better but not completely. Having a meltdown didn’t really help her in the way she needed help. The older man caught her attention and waved her to join him in one of the cushy chairs in his office. “I’ll make an exception for today. It seems like you’re really struggling. So tell me, what’s the problem?” Devi sighed. ”Well for starters, my brother wants me to go with him to Belrea and then head to the newly discovered lands as its own adventure.” Lord Koriyan’s head cocked to the side slightly, his eyes narrowing as he tried to figure out the problem. She decided to fill in the blanks. ”Problem is...I’m deathly afraid of large bodies of water…” She watched as her mentor’s eyes widened as she was sure a few things clicked into place. “Hmmmm…” He held up a finger and walked towards a bookshelf. His finger flowed over spines of books before ending and tapping on one and then pulled it out. He rifled through the pages, clearly looking for something. “I can see how that would be an issue for you. I assume something traumatic happened?” Devika nodded but didn’t expand upon his question. Deciding not to push, Lord Koriyan returned to his seat. “If you can give me some time, and a lot of your focus I believe I can help. I don’t think I’ll be able to help you over your fear, that requires much more than the time we have but I can teach you some techniques and perhaps a few spells that will help you if you get into trouble. They’ll be similar to the focus exercises we’ve already been through so it shouldn’t be too hard to learn but we’ll have to make it a habit. Shall we start now?” Devika’s eyes lit with hope, perhaps she could do this!
A little over a week later, Devika was rushing towards the door of her home having just finished a last minute lesson with Lord Koriyan. She nearly bowled Kaimana over as he was about to open the door. ”I’ll come with you.” She said breathlessly. ”I’ll come with you to Belrea.”
Blurb: In this growth solo, Devika is deciding to face her greatest fear, albeit in a minor way. She’s accepting that there are going to be ways to overcome it and will strive to do just that so it won’t hold her back from life anymore.

oO Step Two: Overcoming that Problem - Stage 2 Growth Quest Oo XXXXXXXXX..Word CountXXXXXXXXXX523The group was on yet another boat, as if Devika weren’t tired enough of these dreaded things. She felt like she had been on way too many for her own liking though this time felt decidedly different than the first couple of times. There wasn’t quite as much sea sickness, for one, and she didn’t fear falling into the water as much as she once had. Sure she still felt some anxiety about not being able to see any land but even that wasn’t as debilitating as it had been on their first trip on a boat or even when they were on the airship. This many months of adventuring with her brother and Sriina had been very good for her, physically and mentally. She felt like she was in the best shape she had ever been in and stronger than she was before as well. There was no easy way out of things when you had limited people to depend on. As a result, she often had to try and push through her own fears and setbacks to do what was best for everyone else, regardless of how hard it was. Devika was reminded of her meeting with that Elidae Quianna, how the other had talked her into crossing the little body of water when the skies had started pouring water down upon them. Even though they had barely known each other, Quiana had saved her by guiding her as they swam underwater to avoid rocks that were falling from the cliff face. That experience had really taught her a few different things. The first and most important lesson being she was no longer that small, scared little girl who had almost drowned trying to escape the obans. She had grown up, gotten stronger, and was much more able to take care of herself now. She’d learned magic and traveled the world. She’d seen so many different and amazing things. Things that she’d almost let her fear of Water keep her from. Devika sighed and found herself walking over to the rail of the ship and looking out to the horizon. So much she had almost missed because one experience led to a lifelong fear that she had believed was impossible to get over. But it wasn’t impossible, as she’d learned that few things actually are. It simply depends on how much one was willing to work for it. After all that she had seen and done on this journey with her loved ones? Devika was definitely willing to put the work in. She smiled at that and remembered the conversation she’d had with her brother on the anniversary of their Gram’s passing. They would definitely be proud of her right now. She wasn’t completely over her fear of water, no, that would take a little more work. But the young woman was no longer petrified by the thought and knew if she kept working she would be able to reach her goal of getting over that fear. Her fear of water was no longer going to be a deciding factor in her life. And for that, she was proud of herself.
