Anchor In The World

Quote:
Zandala reflects on where she is in the world and her place within it. She takes up teaching as a way to find herself and keep herself grounded.

Zayana was on a trip with Nayyara. Pyanka and Kanika along with their brood were busy so Zandala found herself with too much time on her hands. Sure, she had spent plenty of time with Lumikani but as much as Lumi loved her, she was certain she had exhausted her partner's patience with her. So now she was stuck reflecting on herself and there was nothing she hated doing more than that. She did not like to look too deep or to reflect back, or even look to the future. It scared her really, she was a warrior in a time of peace, where did she fit in this world?

That was the gist of it really and it hadn’t struck her as hard as when she’d taken a look in the mirror and seen the first whisps of grey in her dark hair. That had scared her too, what would she do now? Who was she and who would she be? Zandala didn’t know how to answer that herself. Soon even her grandchildren wouldn’t need her either. They were already prentices and not getting any younger. Did she pick up a trade? Did she craft?

Zandala made a face at the thought of weaving like some of the old croons in their village.

She knew she would have to find her place though, so she began trying many things and failing quite miserably at them. She had little to no patience for fishing, how others did she didn’t understand. And then against her own thoughts she had tried weaving and she’d only embarrassed herself with how bad she was at it. The world kept moving without her though and Zandala didn’t know if she could keep up. Perhaps a trip would do her well, Lumi would come, but was she ready?

Had she ever been ready really at any important life event? Had she been ready to leave her only family and home back in Chibale? Had she truly been ready to raise children with her wonderful partner? She certainly had not been ready to disappear into the night with her daughter while stealing another child to travel and find the other half of her family. Zandala knew she would never be ready, but she also knew her strengths. And her strength lay in her skills, perhaps then she would take up teaching the younger generations how to use the bow.

So that is how Zandala found herself asking around for those who wanted to join her. The next morning five young students and two adults showed up to learn. It was a start, but Zandala felt this is what she needed to do. In this time, this is where and what she was meant to be. It gave her a sense of peace to find her place, to find something she knew she would be good at. And while life still seemed to be moving too fast for her, at least now she had an anchor to help her.
