Jacob found himself flushing just a little bit. “Well. I‘m glad you like it. I like it too. You make fitting in so easy. And you make working hard a pleasure. You’re a wonderful mentor, and an even better friend and I think that I’m lucky to have you, easily as lucky as you are to have me.”
He looked into Samir’s golden eyes and felt a rush of joy at the affection he saw there and he laughed softly. “Well. You’d trust me with your dogs? Hell, that makes me feel very proud. Though, I hope whenever I have to take care of them, you’re there too. I’ll be happy to come over whenever they miss me. Whenever you miss me too.”
After taking a long drink of his soda, he shook his head. “Why don’t we do dinner and a movie like once a week or something? Change it up, one week you do my place, one week we do yours? We can take care of the dogs after dinner, if it’s at my place. Or…hell. Just bring them to my place and then you can stay over if it gets too late.”
He wouldn’t mind that at all. They were good dogs, and the idea of spending the night with Samir was worth any amount of dog hair.

Samir seemed pleased with this suggestion and nodded. "You know? I think I like how that sounds. A lot. Though, I don't know if you know what you're getting into by inviting the dogs as well," he laughed. "...I'll have to buy you a mini-vac and a crate full of lint rollers."
...But, he liked the idea. More than he could say. It was exciting, new--but, safe. It was comfortable but refreshing. It was just the sort of adventure he could go for.
"Let's do it, we'll make a ritual of it. One night a week, just you and me." He paused and amended, "And the dogs, when we're done treating ourselves."

Jacob nodded and looked utterly pleased. “Perfect. That sounds utterly…and completely perfect.”
He hoped it would continue for weeks on end. And perhaps even longer if he were lucky. He enjoyed the idea of time spent with Samir and he wanted to truly create ritual of it. The very thought made him feel giddy. He held up his glass of water and nodded at his captain and friend. “A toast, I think. To us, and to new adventures and rituals. To a happy and amazing future together.”
It was the only path he could think of at this very moment in time. And so long as Samir was involved in his life, he figured he could do anything. And that was a good feeling indeed.

Samir lifted his glass easily, smile on his face as he lightly tapped Jacob's glass. "A perfect toast, I'll drink to that."
He returned the glass to his lips, taking a small sip. His eyes didn't fall from Jacob's face, though. From across the table, Jacob looked like he was glowing, light there was a light inside of him just buzzing to get out.
...It made him smile. It made him hopeful.
It made him wonder if there was something to all these dreams he was having about him.
