Rank: Wingrider (Harbingers Wing)
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Significant Other: None
Physical Description: If there were one word that could sum G'rey's appearance up succinctly, it would be average. Even after his final growth spurt, he remains medium in height, neither tall nor short. The intense physical demands of being a dragonrider have helped him to fill out quite a bit, giving him a broader and more muscular frame than he had when he first Impressed. His hair is black and chin-length and frames a plain, lightly freckled face with brown eyes. His most notable feature would be his fair skin - but that's not enough to let him stand out in a crowd. His only hope of not blending in would be the way he dresses, and with a dragonrider's salary he is finally capable of affording nice clothes to wear. When not in his riding leathers, he favors neat and stylish clothes in paler browns to compliment his life partner.
Personality: One of the first things G'rey learned while growing up was to always stick by the people you care about, and it's a lesson he's taken entirely to heart. His loyalty is easily his biggest virtue and likely his saving grace. While befriending him can be difficult due to his particular brand of abrasiveness, once a friendship with him has been won he'll stick by the person through thick and thin. He values each and every one of his friends more than anything else, and it would take something beyond extreme to lose his friendship - a severe betrayal of his trust or a crime extreme enough to be nigh unforgivable. The smaller things are often forgiven, although he might nurse his hurt feelings for a while before he makes it known. Although his friends and family will most often take priority in his life, hearth and home have a powerful influence on him too - and a word against them is often enough to earn his ire.
And his wrath is not something one wants to find themselves on the receiving end of, for when he feels his anger is justified he can be downright horrible. While he's a firm believer that what goes around comes around, he isn't afraid to take it upon himself to speed that process up a bit when he can. If there's an opportunity to make someone who scorned him look like a fool, he'll take it in a heartbeat. Even if the slight against him was from Turns ago, it doesn't really matter to him. He can hold a grudge as long as he needs to see someone get their comeuppance, especially if he gets to play a part in it even in a minuscule way. They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and he's more than inclined to agree with that analysis.
But despite his vindictiveness, he does know when to set aside thoughts of petty revenge and focus on the task at hand. While he's loathe to ever let a grudge go forever, he does know when to set it aside and concentrate on more immediate concerns. His goals for the future are important to him, and he knows that if he's going to achieve them he needed to dedicate himself first and foremost to each step along the way. He can throw himself at a tedious chore and put all his attention into it fairly easily. Although he may not always do it with a smile, he recognizes that each chore he's assigned is an important step forward as much as his lessons are. And each of those were put in front of him for a reason, even if he may not completely understand the reason at the time. He trusts that those in positions above him know what they're doing with each task they set before him.
G'rey's healthy respect for authority is another of his virtues. He believes the people in power are in power for a very good reason and that contradicting them only serves to make things worse for everyone under them. There's nothing to be gained by complaining about being assigned a task he doesn't like, and he'd rather just get it over with and move onto something else than butt heads with someone who could make his life infinitely more miserable if they had the mind to. Of course that isn't to say he won't speak out against a bad order if he feels it might endanger someone, but when it comes to that he'll do it respectfully and bearing in mind that his superior's final say is what he needs to go with in the end. And if he doesn't like the way things are run, the best thing he can do is work to change then when he's the one in a position of authority. And he whole-heartedly believes that day will come.
He has an exceedingly high opinion of himself, and it could easily be said that his arrogance is his fatal flaw. While everyone else may see him as average, he is of the firm belief that he's exceptional - and often overestimates himself as a result. He has a bad habit of biting off more than he can chew, and when things blow up in his face he has a difficult time admitting it. While he can spot what he did wrong more often than not, owning up to it and letting someone in a position to fix it seems like an insurmountable feat. He feels that if he admits to his mistake, he's admitting that he couldn't handle the task in the first place. And being unable to handle something is a blow to his exaggerated sense of self importance that he'd rather avoid, even if it means burying the proof that he screwed up in the first place - which often only makes things worse for him in the long run.
Positive Traits: Loyal, forgiving, goal-oriented, respectful of authority.
Negative Traits: Vindictive, holds grudges, haughty, struggles to admit mistakes.
History: Much like many weyrbrats, G'rey was born in High Reaches Weyr as the result of a mating flight to I'rey of Blue Kevadeth and G'dala of Green Adaitath. He has two half-siblings through I'rey - an older sister named Eria and a younger brother named Joroley. While he knows about his relation to both of them, he's never had much contact with either.
He was fostered at a young age to one of the Weyr's kitchen workers, an older woman whose own children were already grown and either Impressed or working at the Weyr themselves. He loved his foster mother dearly, and when allowed would often keep her company in the kitchen if he wasn't doing chores, watching her work and occasionally sneaking away with a bubbly pie as children were wont to do. His life was fairly mundane, with no big events to set him apart from his peers and certainly no twists of fate that changed his course entirely. He was a weyrbrat, plain and simple.
Then Thread returned.
The chaos that followed shook G'rey to the core. So many people were unfortunate enough to get caught unprotected by Thread and while he hadn't lost anyone close to him, the death toll alone dealt a heavy blow. Suddenly a weyrbrat's dream of Impressing seemed that much more important - if Thread was coming back for good, the Weyr would need as many good dragonriders as it could get. He dove headfirst into the life of a candidate, attacking lessons and chores alike with a surprising amount of dedication. He believes whole-heartedly that he'll Impress, and is determined to be the best weyrling of his eventual class.
Other: G'rey has a notable talent for cooking and baking, and exceptionally good penmanship.
Name: Karhath
Age: 2 Turns
Hatchday: 3574.04.07
Color: Brown
Size: 68'
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Significant Other: None
Physical Description: Karhath is an average sized brown. He tends to look smaller than other browns due to his slim and sleek physique. He has a somewhat stretched out appearance due to a long neck and long tail, but has delicate bones, and moves with a swiftness many larger dragons envy. He is strong and capable, but a little low on stamina. He can make it through a full Threadfall, but tends to struggle a bit more than some browns.
Personality: Karhath is the sort of brown that has the possibility of making friends quickly. There is a warmth about this dragon that others are often drawn to, and Karhath welcomes clutchmates and strangers alike to approach. He will always welcome them with a kind word or some sort of compliment, and will not hesitate to be physically affectionate -- a wing draped here, a head boop there, he isn't shy about being physical. In fact, Karhath seems to be most content when he's touching or snuggling someone; he will follow his favored friends and clutchmates around, and ensure their tails are twined, or their shoulders are touching when they sit. His rider will find a very affectionate brown dragon, who will never quite grow out of desiring being close to his, even as an adult. Thankfully, his sweet nature means that he's rarely without some sort of good company. He's always full of compliments, and tends to keep any judgment quiet. One needn't be rude, after all.
Ah, but so much sweet doesn't come without the sour. To start, Karhath is very conscious of color and possible rank. Around metallic kin, he will roll over and submit to their demands and desires. He can get a bit agreeable, almost to a ludicrous degree; he will follow them around happily like a puppy, aiming to please, and desperate to get in their good graces. When it comes to his fellow browns, he respects them as an equal. No better, no worse, than he himself happens to be. Ah, but when it comes to blues, while Karhath can be friendly and cordial and affectionate around them, he certainly doesn't really find them memorable, and more often, finds their opinions of little worth.
And greens are incredibly good fun, but are rarely taken seriously. They're more of a tool to Karhath -- something to be used for a specific task or need. And whites...well, he'll be just as friendly with them as he will be any other, but he writes off almost everything they say and do. Of course, he would never, ever, EVER confess this fact to anyone but his rider -- but he can't help but follow and respect the traditional role of his birth. Make no mistake, Karhath understands the chain of command, and follow it to a tee. There is nothing wrong with tradition, and this brown wants nothing more than to take his rightful place as a cog in the great Threadfighting machine. Ah, but just because he looks up to, or down upon, another doesn't mean he doesn't like them as an individual. None of them could help the color they were born, but they should certainly accept their roles.
Karhath also has a tendency to be passive aggressive. He doesn't actually like to fight, and doesn't often understand why others get upset when he encourages traditionalism. He knows how to sugar-coat his harshest rebukes, and won't usually be pointedly aggressive. He doesn't want to start a fight...but he will point out your flaws, or things he doesn't like, in the nicest and most subtle way possible. This means less perceptive dragons might not know when they're in trouble, since he'll never want to let them know he's upset, and will do whatever he can not to rock the boat.

Origin of Name: Karhath's name comes from the term karha which is a spice mix used to make masala chai. This may include tea leaves, allspice, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, ginger root, honey, nutmeg, peppercorn, star anise, vanilla and other spices.
Inspiration: Karhath is based on Masala Chai. Historically, Indians viewed tea as a herbal medicine rather than as a recreational beverage. The recipe or preparation method for Masala Chai is not fixed, and many families have their own versions of the tea. Most chai contains caffeine, typically one-third that of coffee (if made with a black tea base). The tea leaves steep in the hot water long enough to extract intense flavour, ideally without releasing the bitter tannins. Because of the large range of possible variations, masala chai can be considered a class of tea rather than a specific kind. However, all Masala Chai has four basic components: milk, sugar, cardamom, and ginger.
Unlike many milky teas, which are brewed in water with milk later added, traditional masala chai is often brewed directly in the milk.
Additional Notes: While Karhath has no problem snuggling and cuddling with any willing dragon, or person, he will likely only be interested in ladies when it comes to chasing. No offense, boys, but it's only proper for a male to catch a lady. Whether or not that view is ever challenged shall remain to be seen.
He gets along well with Khamaith, if only for the cuddles. He doesn't actually like Heichath, and thinks that he's more than a bit backwards. Hmph.

Why Me? For Karhath, there was no one else but Gorey. The two are a like-minded match, with Karhath especially appreciating the other's stout loyalty, and his respect for authority. This brown needed someone like him in his life -- someone he could be attached to by the hip, someone he could follow around blindly, and someone he could devote himself to entirely. Karhath understands his Chosen's self-importance, and will more than happily feed into it. Why shouldn't he be proud of his accomplishments? He will do whatever he can to make Gorey's dreams a reality, and in turn, the young man will find himself a never ending stream of support.
They will be well suited at High Reaches, where Karhath needn't worry that his rider might try to start some revolution. Instead, they can rise high together, without breaking any molds, and that puts this brown at ease. Additionally, the two might help one another out during conflicts. Gorey is certainly more aggressive than Karhath, who might be able to temper his outbursts, or at least teach him how to be more passive with his aggression; and Karhath might find someone to stand up for him, in turn.
Together, these two will make a powerful match, and be well received at High Reaches.
