"Don't give me too much credit. It was more instinct, panic, and desperation. I was freaking out I side but I didn't want you to know that when you were so down on yourself." It was safe to admit that now that they were days removed from the house. "Also, I deal with a lot of weird stuff in the past. I was a bigger mess when I was younger. Would spend nights just shaking with my thoughts unable to wrap my brain around ideas of aliens and magic and how small I was and how big the world was. It was exciting and terrifying to me at the same time."
He took a sip of his own drink. It was sour like a lemonade and a raspberry koolaid mixed with some kinda alcohol taste. Tart but not sour enough to pucker his lips.
"Some kinda sour popsicle lemonade taste." He said, offering his drink as he took a sip of hers.
"One winter we had snow ballerinas all over the place. It was the weirdest thing. Oh, and one year, I got turned into a cat with a bunch of other people." He whispered to her. "Get ready for weird because you're on the rollercoaster now."
He offered her her drink back.

“Aww, I bet you looked adorable.” With his youma features it wasn’t too difficult to imagine him as a small little feline. “So were you more like a laid back Ragdoll, or perhaps suave like a Tuxedo?” Laven leaned back, a smirk on her lips she canted her head to the side in an almost amused fashion. “No, you strike me more like an alley cat Tabby. Ready to kick a** and take names.” He didn’t strike her as one to cuddle up affectionately with someone just for pets. More than likely he probably set up one of those traps, let people think he wants a belly rub then latch on with teeth and claws. The thought of it made her laugh but rather than share the mental image she instead took a sip of his drink and almost immediately regretted it. Following after something as sweet as hers, the Poultergeist tasted sour as ********, “Oh, damn.” Marissa handed his back to him then took another sip of her own to wash out the taste. Now, had she started with that one instead she would have probably liked it a lot since she was quite fond of lemonade but as it was, it was just too much right now. “That’s all yours.” “I feel like I should put in a request for ♪It’s the End of the World As We Know It ♫,” She sang the title as it was sung in the chorus of the song. “So how long did it take you to accept that this was the new norm?”

"Nah. Short hair. Small. Gray coat with a black patch on my back. That went all the way down to my tail. Then light gray from my face all the way down my stomach to my tail. Like three colors sandwhitched and matching my uniform. Weird thing cause you are still you but so small. It was a lot of running around finding wtf happened." He said, taking back his drink.
"I don't think there was a moment where I knew. One day you are just getting used to the ideas of talking cats and magic and another you see a space wizard and just accept it for what it is. Doesn't mean I'm not amazed every time by something I haven't seen but I don't questioning it being real either. Then senshi have all those planets and knights have wonders so they all have their own stuff there too. Just thousands of worlds out there that could have something else to the craziness that might show up one day."
He pointed at her. "You watch it. One day you will catch yourself just casually shrugging at something crazy as of it's normal and notice just how much you've seen. I mean so far you have our kind, fire dragon, and ghost girl. Oh, and that little troll that bit us." So there was already a list for her started.
"It's not all bad. Some of it's pretty beautiful and amazing too."

Laven couldn’t help but laugh at the short, but growing, list of strange s**t that’s already happened this month alone. “Fair enough. Although, I’m still kind of waiting for the beautiful part to happen.” The Rift was unique and exciting but hardly something she would consider beautiful. A pang of jealousy struck her at the thought of senshi and knights having unique places to call their own. As a creature of happenstance where two worlds merged into one form, they were children of the Earth and Rift yet didn’t really belong in either place really. “I wonder if I’ll ever get a chance to see some of these far off places. Sounds rather magical.” She commented in an almost whimsical manner. Although unlikely it would be a nice thing to daydream about. Books written in otherworldly settings had to find inspiration from somewhere right? Who’s to say they hadn’t actually been to these places? “So, I was thinking about trying to put together a creature manual, kind of like a research paper based on what we observe when we go on our adventures beyond the doorway.” He still owed her a trip to the petrified forest sometime before the end of the year. "What are your thoughts?"

"Someday. Maybe get you a ride out to space somewhere. In the meantime, I'll look at that forest." And make it a priority to find other places that might dazzle her interests.
"There has been a lot you have to take in. It's a shame you haven't gotten more chances to see the more wonderous side of things. It's not always this bad and terrifying." He could only hope she would believe him on this for now.
"That sounds really interesting and valuable. No one invest in much research on youma. A study them would at least see any common traits. We're you thinking of just going into the Rift and writing notes. Maybe photography?"

Laven raised a skeptical brow in his direction at his comment about things not always being this bad or terrifying. So far she really couldn’t think of a time that wasn’t like that unless it was moments like this when they kind of ran away from it all to enjoy the simple things that life had to offer. The Rift was unique but was also just as dangerous but with keen senses and a trained eye, she wondered if it could be navigated more easily if the terrain, or environments, and youma were better documented somehow. She lifted the glass to her lips and took another sip. “Maybe get something like a GoPro that can sync to the tablet since information can’t be transmitted through the hallway.” At least she didn’t think it did since once they passed through to the other side, Wolframite lost his ability to teleport them to safety. “Otherwise there’s the old fashioned journalism route with a camera to take pictures and notepad to write on.” Perhaps it could give new recruits a better idea of what youma would be available once they got their first promotion. If she could also include things like talents or abilities then the officer would be able to pick one that synergized better with their own skillsets rather than choosing the first one that didn’t kill them on sight.

"Just don't get eaten or take me with you so I can pull you out if anything's jaws."
"Oh we shouldn't bother talking work when it's a holiday. We should talk about something fun." He took a long drink and looked around before looking back at her. "Have you played any drinking games before?"

Laven laughed and shook her head at the memory that came to the forefront of her mind at his question. “Yeah, once. But we can’t really play it here." "About two years ago a small group of us were at a friend’s house and decided to play a Christmas drinking game where we put a Santa hat on each corner of the TV. One person was assigned the left and the other the right. Any time someone on the screen appeared to be wearing one of the hats one of the two people playing had to take a shot of-” Her brows furrowed for a moment. “It wasn’t tequila, may have been whiskey…” She shrugged since it really didn’t matter what it was, the end result was the same. “Either way, it was a very bad idea. I don’t remember making it to the end of the movie.” Nor did she remember throwing up in the toilet while someone held her hair back and then later crawling into the tub because the porcelain felt cool against her face. “Good God, the hangover the next day was absolutely horrible.” “What about you? Have you ever played a drinking game before? Or seen one in one of the TV series you watch that sounded fun to try?”

"Oh no. Not that I can remember. Well..." He paused, thinking about something. "I did have a drinking competition with someone once. Wound up getting way too into it. We both really wanted to win and well - we kinda both regretted it the next day." He still remembered that night but would take the fact he banged Castor to his grave.
Waving that all aside with a hand, he picked up his drink again. "How about Never Have I Ever? Each person says something like, "Never have I ever met a giraffe.' And if you did, you have to drink."

Laven thought about it then after a moment nodded her head in agreement “Ok, we can play that.” If you only have to drink if the statement is true then that meant that if his questions got too raunchy he’d be drinking alone… then again there are clever ways around it that could really ******** her over depending on how he worded them. “You want to go first?”

"Alright. I'm going to just get this one out of the way. Never have I ever been bitten by a shark." He said, smiling back at her. He made a gesture that indicated that she needed to drink.
"I'll grab us another drink here in a second by the way." He said, knowing they would need something after this.

“Wha-” Her lips pursed as she glared at him. “Oh you a** hole… I see how it is.” “Ok… ok,” Laven lifted her drink and finished the last bit since there wasn’t much left in it anyway. She then set the empty glass down on the table and pushed it towards him and smiled. “You want to talk about bites… Never have I intentionally bit someone hard enough to leave a scar.” Yup, she went there. Tilting her head to the side, Laven pulled her hair over to the side and tapped her shoulder where a few of the light blue scales peeked out from beneath the dress.

"Touche." He said, and took the last of his own drink. Once done, he picked up the glasses and walked back to the bar. She hadn't specified what she liked yet, so he decided he'd stick to sweeter drinks. For now, he'd see if there was anything festive left.
He came back with a green drink and a orange one. "The green one is Ectoplasm and the Orange is Jack-ed Up. I have no idea what they even are and when the guy tried to tell me, I couldn't even hear him." He said, leaning back and thinking of his retaliation question.
As easy as getting drunk on easy questions was, he wanted to know more about Marissa.
"Never had I ever gone skinny dipping." She liked water, and he wanted to know how crazy she might have gotten.

Really? Talk about a lucky guess.
She could lie and he'd be none the wiser, that is until karma bit her in the a** later on and he found out. But that would defeat the purpose of this game they were playing and so Laven reached for the Jacked-Up knowing that the Ectoplasm would likely be sour, swallowed what pride she had and took a drink.
“Oh.. man…” Stronger than the previous one she winced not expecting the alcoholic bite that followed after the tangy sweetness.
“It was once. First-year of college but it wasn’t called skinny dipping they called it mermaiding. It was some dorm initiation tradition, night time all girls. We had to jump into the canal.” It was cold as hell without her wetsuit on especially since it was Fall when they did it.
“My turn,” She looked at him long and hard trying to decide what to ask. “Never have I ever ridden on the back of an exotic animal.” Youma could technically fall in that category… kinda...

"Well-well. I was just guessing with your love of water, but didn't know you were out jumping in nothing with a bunch of other women. You were a bit crazier than you let on then." He said, smiling as he watched her and tried to think of where else she might have done in her first year of college. If she was daring enough to jump into a cold canal with strangers, then there was a possibility she had done more.
He looked up, leaning a bit as he tried to think long and hard on that one. He never owned a youma or creature he ever rode on, and there had been no instances where he rode any other animal in the past. Thinking it over, he shook his head.
"Never rode anything exotic. I was carried by a Kraken once, but that isn't riding as more as being grabbed." He said, and didn't take a drink.
"Never have I ever been arrested." He asked.
