He tilted his head in curiosity as he waited for the question to process. And when he saw the distance in her eyes become stressed, he quickly realized that this may have not been the best question to ask. He wasn't there to witness the event rooted deeply in his pack's history and he knew he was lucky to have never met such a traumatic event. He almost took the question back, regretting causing her so much distress until her face lit up from something else.

Oh no, she was so cute smiling like that. He nearly forgot the words that came before the smile. He searched for what his ears processed from her statements, trying to remember how words worked.

Her smile was just so distracting on it's own, and then she had to go on and laugh. It was music, a peal of bells but soft and gentle not too high pitched and ear splitting. It was a good sound, a perfect sound in his opinion and he could do nothing but grin as his breath left his lungs for it.

He sat back up beside her, fully intending to hang off her every word while he sat there with a dopey smile and his tail wagging. To him she was the most important thing in the world at that moment, and yet her simple joy for a memory was erasing any sense he had left.

He finally remembered words and their meaning before he seemed too lost in conversation, "Carrot festivals?"

She had his full attention with her little story, complete enamored adoration graced his face as she spoke. It seemed like a simple celebration, one meant to be celebrated with family and friends to share a meal and stories. One of closeness and familiarity.

He wonders if she misses the feeling? If she does maybe, just maybe, he could help fill that gap. Help her find stability, intimacy, and a closeness that is so rare in their plane of existence. He's ready, he's willing. He will give her the moon if she asks, he will harness the power of the sun for her joy, count the stars and put them in a bouquet for her. When she holds that bouquet, the stars still have less shine than her smile. He's sure of it.

You are jumping a bit ahead aren't you?

The intrusive voice stops his inner ramblings, Thanks for ruining it Black Sun.

Always a pleasure Opal, now pay attention to her words.

He rolled his eyes at his inward friend, and went back to listening to his companion. When she apologized for revisiting her happy moments he shook his head at her, "No, no. Don't apologize. It's not necessary. I liked hearing the story. I imagine is was rather interesting to have a bunch of rabbits and a single bear raise a little wolf."

He thinks about how that observation comes off and he obviously gets embarrassed not sure whether to back track or amend his words, "They did a great job, you- you're wonderful. Absolutely fantastic, even. I like listening to you."

He flushes and fights the urge to hide his face in his paws, opting to rather lay down and hide his face across her shoulders: wanting to be close and assure she's fine, but also too embarrassed of his words to say much else.

His face shone with something else, what was it? It was warm and eager and caring, absorbing the story she spoke of as if it was his last. Did he truly like it? For a moment her smile returned before it abruptly turned into a polite expression as she remembered herself. Still, something warm lingered in the air.

      Something comforting.

"It was interesting. And fun," her voice trailed off as the memories enveloped her, her heart thumping gently against her chest. She missed them. She missed the warmth of tiny paws on her cheek and the nuzzles of wet noses. Her family -- her strange and lovely little family. Perhaps she would visit someday.

His next comment threw her off, her eyes widening and ears perking. Her cheeks felt hot as she struggled to find the polite expression to offer, only to come up with none. His compliment heated her cheeks and ran up to her ears. It wasn't unwelcomed, just... different.

'And nice,' her inner thoughts chirped up. His touch radiated through her shoulders and Tear Garden wondered if it was unbecoming of her to feel such comfort in such a feeling. They had only met once, and yet he could have fooled her. Their interactions felt easy and as if they had known each other far longer. As if they'd know each other past this point.

"Ah, no, I don't have many tales to share," she began, suddenly finding the sentence die on her tongue. She wanted to make excuses. Wanted to shake off any interest he had in her stories and life. It was out of habit, truly. Tear Garden had lived her short life making herself small and without interest that it was all she knew.

A part of her almost wanted him to find interest in her.
      How forward!

"I like listening to you, too," she added softly, a sentence that could easily have been missed by how quietly she spoke it.

      It was late.

Her eyes flicked to the sky, noting where the moon rested. It would be daylight soon! Could she dare take more of his time before an Elf was bound to wonder where the son of the Head Elder was?

"The sun, it'll raise soon. Do you think the Elves would find our midnight talk worthy of a rumor?"

He chuckled at her inquiry of their pack, raising his head from her: He knows at least three wolves that would just love to have fodder for rumors about them. He doesn't think they would be bad ones, but it is odd for the packs "prince" to find company in someone not family.

"Perhaps, they would enjoy such a thing," his eyes shined at the idea of a young love rumor, " but I think the ones going around currently might still be a bit to active for a new one to pop up."

He glances at the sky, noticing the dark blue turn to a lighter grey just waiting for sun to shift it into soft yellows and oranges, "If you wish, I could walk you home."

He stammers a bit, feeling as if the offer could have been to forward, "Or, you know, at least take you back to where I had found you."
