Asher laughed under his breath at the accusation, shaking his head. "No, I'm not flirting with you. Just acutely aware of our circumstances and your determination, I promise." Whether he was or not, the timing was inappropriate. Justice was a nice looking doe, but her determination and strong sense of doing the right thing struck Asher more than that. It made him want to do right by the kits, too, even in the face of Hoarfrost's grumpy insistence that they mind their own business and go home.
"Like I said before," Asher sighed, looking over. "It just feels wrong. The air. All of it. I live near here and it feels wrong, that's the weird bit. I'd expect other bunnies to be skittish in a new area, but I know these grasses and even I'm skittish. Even Hoarfrost is." He'd never admit it, but he had a feeling most of the older buck's attitude was to do with how tense he felt, too.
Missing kits only added to the tension. Missing kits, the storm, and injured rabbits mucking about in the dark? It was the worst kind of perfect storm.
"We don't know how long they've been missing, though. Could be the kits wandered off before Mama noticed." He yelped a little at the impact, sheepish, and turned back to face her. "Maybe. Or it could be that one of these was made before. They might not be fresh tunnels..."
Asher had begun to trek down the left side after Hoarfrost's gruff warning, and almost didn't notice Justice trailing behind him until he looked back. He blinked at her, ears perking, and smirked a little. "Well. Between the two of us, we're bound to find them sooner or later, right?"
At least Hoarfrost would stop acting like he was going to get himself killed with Justice behind him.

"Stay behind the other two, stay behind the other two." Koi nodded to himself, the mantra running through his head. It would be fine. It would all right. No one was going to get eaten, no one was going to get tackled and gnawed. Everything was going to be okay. All he had to do was focus.
Right. Right.
What was he doing again?! Oh yeah! Moving forward.
"I hope we're out of here soon." He replied absentmindedly, rubbing one of his ears nervously with a paw. "I don't like this place very much." It felt like it was swallowing them all in one go. So spooky. He shivered, shuffling forward. "I try not to hurt myself!" he winced as he stepped on another sharp and jagged rock."Much." he laughed, albeit a bit shaken, before kicking the rock to the side. He didn't want anyone else to step on it after all.
"She's alive after a tree fell on her?" How?! His eyes blew open wide as he looked from hoarfrost to Justice. Could she not die? What was this? How did he know that she'd be fine? A huge. Tree! Fell on her! He shook his head. "She's lucky to be alive."
"I don't know about that." Koi stiffened, before shaking his head. "You're right, sorry. What could possibly go wrong?!" The buck didn't let out that he didn't know how to fight. That he didn't even like fighting others. Why when he could live a peaceful life?
Koi stared at the group, unsure of which way too go. The buck said that there was safety in numbers. And he did like the bun. But if he went with him, then wouldn't that be less safe than being with the others? A flash of justice went through his mind, maw bloody.
Right. It was best to go with the one who most likely didn't eat their own kind. "I'm coming!" he shouted, probably a bit too loudly as he bounded after Hoarfrost. "Maybe luck will be on our side!" His step slowed down. "Your friend will be fine right?"

"We'll be outta here soon." Hoarfrost said gruffly to the buck he was following, eying the twitchiness of the kid. He couldn't be much older than the kits they were hunting for, the way he seemed so spooked. "Keep your eyes forward and down, rocks're everywhere this close to the Hills." He shook his head, smirking a little despite himself. It reminded him of his younger days, and he did not have the wherewithal to deal with those feelings just now.
"She is." Hoarfrost said this with no amount of admiration in his tone. It was another fact. More rabbits, lesser rabbits, would've been cracked in the back by the weight of such a thing. She'd gotten lucky, and the branch was weak enough that a solid kick freed her.
As the group split up, he tilted his head back to see Coy Koi following behind him. The gruff buck snorted under his breath, shaking his head. "Don't account for luck, kit. We'll either find the missin' kit or we'll find out that this tunnel's a dead end. Answers're answers either way." He looked back down the path they'd wandered, grimacing slightly.
"Asher'll be fine. He's a dumbass, but he's got Justice behind him." He said, carrying on down the path. "Where're you from?" Talking might calm the buck down enough that Hoarfrost could focus his attention forward. With any luck, there'd be less rocks in their path, too.

Rowan paused his searching when he heard one of the other rabbits ahead call out. There was a fork in the path? Oh goodness, just what they needed. Especially in the dark. How lovely. He heaved a sigh. It was too late to call it quits now. Presented with the choice of left or right, two different pairs of rabbits, he didn't feel strongly either way. He didn't know any of them, he'd just sort of been following their lead. They seemed to know what they were doing well enough. After a short debate in his head, he chose to follow the right path on a whim. His search continued down his chosen path. He listened idly to the other rabbits converse, but he didn't make any attempts to butt in. He didn't think they'd appreciate that very much. They were probably just there for the kit, just the same as he was. The grasses hid many rocks, he'd come to notice, and he chose his pawsteps carefully. The last thing he wanted was another injury to add to their growing list of inconveniences. This post: 184 Total: 2298 It's all right here!

Mud had been near the buck when he first noticed the tunnel. He did a quick look around the area before heading to search the grass, by this time all other buns were long out of sight and mud was stuck on which way to go. He would still be looking around for anything to lead him in the correct direction but he wasn't sure which way to look.
He decided he would look himself then he started slowly into the grass. Keeping his nose low to the ground kits were tiny so looking low was clearly the best way.

"Mmhmm." Right. He wasn't flirting. Which was why he kept on complimenting her. Right.. Justice's eyes narrowed at the buck as doubt was still evident on her face. No matter. She could live with someone being overly friendly to her. It wasn't like it was the first time. Even though it was particularly strange to feel and made her feel a bit uncomfortable, she'd deal. They had to find the kits. Not have a long winded discussion about manners. That could be saved for later.
"You're going to have to go deeper than that. Sort out your feelings." Justice snorted. Why hadn't the buck thought of doing that before? It seemed like an easy solution. "Maybe you're the one that's wrong." That probably wasn't the case. She felt off--but then, she rarely went into the dales. Who was she to say what was off and what wasn't. But only having evidence that something just feels different was nothing to go off on. It was maddening and frustrating. Why couldn't this buck just think about it more?
Justice's ears twitched back, annoyed. "Are you calling the mother a bad mom? That she didn't know where her kits were before the storm?" She gave the buck a look, miffed and in the full belief that the mother wasn't at fault.
And then Asher yelped. A snort came from Justice's mouth and she looked to the side, covering her mouth with a paw. What a weakling. It was only a gentle push! The laughter suddenly died in her throat as he pointed out that they could be following a dead trail, her face turning grim. "Well I hope for the both of us, it doesn't turn out that way." She'd hate to run after a dead trail. The longer the kits weren't found, the longer that they were in danger. She couldn't have their lives be gone on her hands. Justice wouldn't allow it.
"I hope sooner before later. Get to hopping, flirt." he nudged Asher forward before hobbling next to him.

“If I knew why it felt off, I’d say why it felt off.” Asher pointed out with a snort, peering at Justice. “And if it were just me, I’d think I’d’ve noticed. Everyone seems to be on edge tonight, and they were like that well before the storm broke. You can’t deny it feels strange, even if you are from beyond the Dales…” He looked around. “There’s not much here but grass, unless you follow the river line… And even then, it’s mostly just more grass.”
He saw the beauty of it, the same as he saw the beauty in the rocky Poppy Hills beyond it, but that didn’t mean he didn’t understand why others didn’t enjoy it compared to the meadows or the Tanglewood.
“D’you have kits?” He looked over. “’Cause I don’t, but I can’t imagine it’s particularly easy to keep track of more than one or two kits. Do we know how many we’re looking for? For all we know, the kits wandered off one by one while the mother was looking after the others. Tall grass like this, it’s easy for them to get lost. Mama could’ve just thought they were playing and not noticed they were truly gone until the weather had turned and they didn’t come running when she called.”
This was all speculation, but Asher was hesitant to blame it on the mother. He remembered his own littermates and how much trouble they’d given the poor doe… Kits were curious and exploratory.
Asher carried on down the trail to the left alongside Justice, ears perked to pick up any sound ahead of them. “Hope Hoarfrost doesn’t get himself lost.” He said after a little while, looking back the way they’d come. “Stormborn’d never let him live it down, and then he’d kill me once and for all.” He laughed under his breath, looking back. “He seems to trust you a bit, at least.”

"Soon?!" Koi's voice cracked as it rose, hope catching in his throat. "That's good. Yeah! We'll be out of here soon!" The more he was in here the more he was losing his sanity. He wished he could get out now but...he was on a mission. And he wasn't going to leave any poor kit behind! They'd find them soon! "Forward and down forward and down. Roger that!" Koi nodded to himself as he looked foward, took a step, and then look down to see where he was stepping. Lather, rinse, repeat. He could do this. His poor paws wouldn't have to be hurt by another rock again. Well, at least right now, today. Other instances were a different matter.
"Hopefully her luck still stands!" He didn't want to get in the way of the grumpy doe. They might have had the same goal in mind but she had this...aura around her that was frightening. He didn't like it. Not one bit. The sooner they were able to find the kits, the better.
Koi gulped uneasily as the paths divided into two. It was going to be harder than he expected. Maybe Justice's luck really had run out. Oh no. He shivered, following the white buck he had been talking to.
"But wouldn't you rather find the missing kit than a dead end? If we find a dead end, then we won't know where the kit was. They might have even been taken." Devoured. The buck went silent, his ears laying flat. He didn't want that to happen! Oh no...Oh no oh no. "We have to find them." he tried to be firm even though his voice wavered. "We gotta." It didn't sit on his mind well if they didn't find him. The loss of life was always such a hard feeling.
"I hope they don't get hurt...Or lost." Justice at least seemed to know what she was doing. At least, she was firm in her actions. They were already missing the kits, he couldn't even imagine the pain of losing a good friend. But if the buck claimed that Asher would be fine, then Asher should be fine. Everything was going to be okay.....right?
Where was he from? That was a good question. Koi tilted his head before scratching his ear. "I don't...know." he glanced at Hoarfrost. "Everywhere, I guess. My parents traveled, and so I traveled. And...well...then they were gone. So I moved." He didn't really remember his parents. He hoped they were nice. And somewhere out there.
It's all right here!

"Unless you have something to hide. You seem smart enough to hide something with your charm in order to hide your wrong doings." she gave him a look, cocking one ear to investigate him. It didn't look like he was hiding anything. But...looks could be deceiving. He was just too trustworthy, too honest. Another piece to the puzzle that felt off. The thing was...he might have a point. Justice didn't want to admit it, but she did feel off. "Maybe their reason is different from yours." she murmured, her brain slowly churning to conjure up some way to isolate Asher as a reason why. It was maddening. Why couldn't she? "I don't live in this area, of course it's going to be strange to me, it's the unknown." Justice cursed, stumbling over a rock. "You're offly distracting, you know?"
All that around here was grass? Her mouth formed a thin line. "How close does the river run to where we're heading." she asked, looking around. The grass was far too tall. All she could see was the damned tall stocks. And when she swiveled her ears around--she didn't hear running river water. All she could hear was the drip drip of the rain drops pelting the grass and the occasional sky rumble. "Aggrivating." Absolutely maddening.
A sudden scoff left Justice lips at the mention of kits. "Does it look like I have kits? If I did, I would be with my mate and the kits." She rolled her eyes up to the sky. "I'm not a terrible mother. Er--I wouldn't be. What's with you and hitting on me?" she cocked a brow. First, it was about complimenting her. Now it was about seeing if she had kits, indirectly asking about her mate status? He didn't need to know. No matter how good looking. "I've watched over my younger siblings before," which was close enough to having kits of her own. She hoped her family was doing well. "It's tough but a good bun would never lose track of their kits, not willingly." She never lost her siblings. "Have you lost one of yours? It sounds like you're experienced." Was he the reason why they were gone? Did he lead them into the grass of the dales? The story sounded likely. Too likely and too specific. Her eyes narrowed.
"I'm sure your friend will be fine and not lost. He has more of a head on his shoulders than you do." He knew about the sky being angry, at least. "Who's Stormborn?" She could use some idle chatter to pass the time at least. She rolled her eyes. "What are you, his wingbun? Flattery will get you nowhere. Of course I should be trusted. I know what I'm doing."

There might have been grass surrounding them all and interrupting each path. But something moved in the distance. At first, Koi didn't think nothing of it. But then it happened again. "Hey Hoar!" he called out loudly. Much too loudly. Any bun within four feet of him would have heard him. He didn't need to be that loud. "I think I see something over there!" He jutted his head towards it. "It might be a kit! I'm going to go investigate! He started hopping in that direction, completely neglecting where the path was now. He could always catch back up with Hoarfrost if he didn't come with. It wasn't that far away!

"Me? Something to hide?" Asher grinned a bit, looking over. "I'm an open book." He laughed under his breath. "Fact of it is, I'm sort of a terrible liar. Hoarfrost thinks I'm too easy, he doesn't trust me with much because of it." He shrugged helplessly, but didn't seem altogether bothered by the notion. Few things seemed justifiably important enough to hide from others, and he couldn't think of anything in his own life that was that important... "I don't know that all the bunnies back there are from elsewhere. Even they seemed unsettled by the air. Could've just been the storm putting everyone on edge, but... I don't mind storms, not usually. This one almost felt spiteful." He looked over, laughing a little. "Am I? Never noticed."
"The river winds back and forth. I think we're a decent way from it, but we might hit it if we keep going this way long enough." He said, pausing to raise up on his hind legs and see if he could see beyond the grass. No such luck, though his ears grazed just over the grassline when he strained them upward. "We'll find the kits and get out of the grass. Long as we don't lose our path, we'll be fine." It didn't seem like the rain would ruin it for them, at least.
Asher smiled a bit at that, glancing back. "I thought you accused me of blaming the mother. No offense, Justice, but it seems like you're the one who might have a hangup about does losing their kits in a storm." He carried on ahead of them, tilting his head. "No kits of my own. I had littermates, too, but they usually watched me, not the other way 'round. I haven't seen them in a long time. We split up when we left our den. Think they went somewhere beyond to the Tanglewood, it's where most of my family was when I was little..." He'd maybe take a trek down there one day, but the forest always made him feel suffocated...
"He's the smartest of our group, I'd reckon." He agreed, looking back with a grin. "Storm's, uh... I suppose you could say Stormborn is Hoarfrost's littermate, though they're not actually related, far as I know. They ran together in the same circles when they were younger. When Hoarfrost started digging his burrow out next to mine, she followed." He snickered a little. "Even if I was his wingbun, trust me, you're not his type." Asher tilted his head. "That buck following him might be... I don't think I've ever seen Hoar put up with anyone like that one before. He barely has patience for me and I'm pretty sure he likes me most days..." Huh.

"I'd rather find our way out of here, kit or not." He replied gruffly, looking back at Coy Koi. He seemed like a sentimental buck, and for reasons Hoarfrost didn't want to fathom right now, that meant he probably should've been kinder. He sighed, ears dropping slightly. "If we don't find them in this tunnel, then the odds are good that the kit went the way Justice and Asher did. Frankly, they're probably better equipped than I am to deal with some lost kit in the cold and dark." He smirked slightly at the determined, firm, slightly wavering tone Coy Koi took.
"If they came this way, we'll find them." He agreed, carrying on ahead down the trail.
Hoarfrost glanced back to Koi as he pondered his origins, nodding a little, and smirked some. "Me, I've always been in this area." He admitted. "My burrow's dug into the Poppy Hills, but we graze and forage in the Dales. Bit easier to find good food during the spring and summer months in the Dales than the Hills." He tilted his head as he went. "Used to have a warren, me. Most of them're gone now." He'd never fully shake Stormborn and, if he was honest, he probably wouldn't want to. Where Asher lacked sense, Stormborn lacked patience, and Hoarfrost lacked empathy. The three of them balanced one another out nicely.
The older buck almost didn't hear Coy Koi call him, deep in his own thoughts. He jerked at the sudden yelling, looking back sharply, and swore. "Koi! Don't go-- damn." The buck abandoned his path and turned to chase after the buck into the undeveloped path. "Coy Koi, get back here! Wandering off the path's going to get us both lost!"
