Attention shifting between the fizzing over and making quite the mess, and the paper with their instructions, Toby said a bit unsurely. "I...don't know. I thought I followed all the instructions, did I grab the wrong thing?" He ran a finger down the page as he considered the answer.
The teacher returned then with a big rag and a plastic bucket, which he quickly swept the offending flask into. "What a mess," he said, shaking his head. The stuff seemed to be bubbling away pretty quick, leaving a sticky mess on and around their work table. Mr. Hammit regarded that a moment before telling them both, "I expect you both here after classes to properly clean this up. You make a mess, you're the one to fix it."
"But I--" Toby started, and was cut short by a small gesture from the teacher.
"No exceptions."
Toby nodded.
