“What? No, it’s not too hot back here. And I’m feeling fine. Just, I don’t know. Thought of something dumb, that’s all.” Jacob coughed politely and shook his head. “No, I’d love to learn safety rules and I really…would love to do that with you. It sounds like a lot of fun, and I just want to say that any sword that you make…for me I…”
The male’s words were going straight to his head and after a moment, Jacob laughed, covering his face for a moment with his hands. “God, you can’t just talk that way. Telling people that they’re going to be unstoppable…I’m going to get a swelled head from the praise!”
But he liked it. It was as though Samir was an entire cheer squad just waiting to make sure he did his best. And he was honestly the greatest captain in the world. “…I hope they promote you soon, you know. You deserve it. I will keep practicing, I want to make you proud…I want…I hope that one day someone goes oh yeah, that’s Lopezite’s recruit…and I want…it all to fall back on you because you…do a really great job. So thank you.”

Samir watched him for a moment more, keen to assure he hadn't suffered some heat affliction--the red face, the coughing. He had just begun to nod when Jacob's attitude and demeanor shifted to something far more comfortable. He relaxed quickly, smiling as Jacob hid his face.
"Please, I can't take credit for what you accomplish. You make me proud already. One day you won't just be my Lieutenant, or my Captain. One day, you and I will be Generals together! And it will be a proud day," he promised.
Perhaps, a little sad, if only because he knew it meant that Jacob would wind up with his own team--his own Captains and Lieutenants to teach and protect.
But, Samir smiled; he wanted to see Jacob succeed. He wanted him to be the best that he could be.
He clapped him on the shoulder. "I know just what type of sword I want to make you. I will have to get started tonight, I can feel the inspiration in my blood. Perhaps you are my muse as well!"

His muse? For a moment, Jacob wasn’t sure what to say but he coughed and nodded, grinning. “Ah, yeah. Of course we’ll be Generals together…maybe we could run a team together? If I ever get that high into things, that is. But. It’s a nice idea!”
A very nice idea. One that he was really trying hard not to entertain at this moment in time. Maybe later. A little later.
When he was home.
Ah.
“Well, if you’re going to get started on it, I can’t wait, Samir. I bet it’s going to be amazing, I hope you get promoted to become a General soon, you really do deserve it. I know I wouldn’t be anywhere without you…but…if you want, I can stay and watch you, or do you work better alone? I don’t want to be…I don’t want…ah.” His face felt warm again and Jacob drew in a breath. “…Maybe I am a little hot in here, now that I think about it.”

Samir laughed and shook his head. "Come, I'll show you around the rest of the junkyard. I'll let you know when I'm getting ready to start on something, that way I can teach you forge etiquette. And you can watch me, and I'll help you make something of your own. Next time," he promised with a smile.
He patted Jacob's back encouragingly and used his hand to gently direct him out of the forge so he could show him the rest of the junkyard.
"And when we're done with the tour, we'll pet the dogs and get something to eat! It's a bit of a walk, getting all around this place. You'll work up an appetite. I already have," he smiled. "But, hard work requires all the nutrients and energy your body can stomach, no? And if it doesn't sound like I can make something delicious, we'll just order a pizza. My treat. It's good to relax, some, too. Unless you have plans? You don't have to stay if you're busy," he promised, still smiling.

Jacob nodded and shook his head. “I’m not busy at all, Samir. I’m really happy to spend time with you. I don’t get the chance to hang out with people often, so this is a real treat. And I never get to spend time with such great company.”
He grinned and felt rather giddy with the feeling of his friend’s hand on his back. “The idea of petting the dogs and eating pizza sounds like a great plan to me. Or, whatever you feel like cooking, I’m not a particularly picky person so.”
Tucking a strand of hair behind his ear, Jacob grinned. “I’m eager to stay today for as long as you’ll have me so…let’s get down to business and start our tour?” He liked it here. He liked the friendship that was building between the two of them, and he liked the fact that he honestly seemed to be welcome.
It felt good to be welcomed.
