"With so much space, you'd think so -- but at least we know there's air, since trees tend to provide oxygen for people." Michelle looked around, shifting her (small) bag against her hip. "So which way should we go? It's all up to you, this is your place. I'm just the tagalong."

There was another absent, but in tune, bit of humming coming from Michelle, looking around. "You'd think there'd be frogs, but I haven't even heard a chirp of a grasshopper or anything else. Just...rustling leaves and us. Really, really trippy."

"Well, any direction is good as any other," Nix said thoughtfully, "And we don't actually have to come back to right here to go home, so, uh," he paused, looking around. "That way," he said, pointing.

"We'll just go a little ways, then head back home. No reason to keep you here too long, but if you wanna see," he grinned and shrugged. "You are already here, after all."

There were lots of trees in that direction, that was for sure. Lots of silence, too. "I've heard sometimes people find like...abandoned cities and stuff on their worlds, so, I'm sure there's one here...somewhere."

"Given this is your place, I'll follow your lead." Michelle's voice was lightly amused as she began to move in the direction he pointed in, taking in a deep breath. "That's good to know, though -- that if we get lost, we can still get home."

She fell quiet, humming softly to herself before shrugging once more. "I mean, how many chances does an ordinary librarian get to see what's on another...well. On a moon? I'm never going to be NASA worthy, and I doubt they'll even make it this far out in our lifetimes...though I wonder what they'd make of this sorta thing..."

"Now, I'm not really sure," Nix said thoughtfully, as he started off in the chosen direction. "But I think if NASA ever did come here and look closely, they wouldn't find what we're seeing."

"I've also visited the Moon--that is...Earth's moon," he said, in an almost awed fashion. "And, well, I'm certain I was on the moon. I could see the Earth, and the gravity was really low." Was pretty low here too, all told, but way more than one would expect of a moon of Pluto. "But there are buildings, and signs of an old civilization. Structures, tech, all kinds of stuff. Mostly ruins, though." He shrugged. "In that area, at least...I'm not entirely sure where on the Moon that was."

"Anyway, I think whatever magic lets me 'power up' and be like this," he patted his suit lightly, "Hides the true nature of the different planets and their, er, magical stuff. You'd never recognize me if I came up to you as a normal person, even though as best I can tell, I look exactly the same, and this," he touched the green patch in his hair, "Is pretty unique. I dye it this way. And yet, nobody can connect the dots. It's weird, and kind of scary in a way. But useful."

"Yeah, I looked for kids that look like you -- like, high school kids -- and nothing seemed right from what I was seeing, so that sounds about right on the whole...mysterious thing giving the powers front." Michelle seemed like she wasn't going crazy at least -- wasn't freaking out and insisting this was all a hoax despite the fact it was still a distinct possibility.

"I'm sure their minds would not be able to accept this in any way, shape, or form. Pluto's a dwarf planet and all that, with no life anywhere but...there's plants here. Plants are life. That means somewhere there's bound to be water, whether it's safe for human consumption or not is another matter entirely, but those two things would drive them bonkers." Michelle laughed, hands raising up as she stretched her back before placing her hands behind her head.

She fell quiet for a long moment, before, "People like me probably aren't supposed to see any of this, though. Know any of it. Right? That's how it is in the books unless something's gonna happen and make me one of...whatever you are." She nodded in his direction. "But this is life, not a book, so that won't happen, which means...oh no, are you going to be in trouble that I know this much?"

"Now, uh, I don't have a particular way to get there, but...as far as I know, there's also stuff on Pluto. Or was. From what I hear, most of the worlds out there are kind of, er, dead. Like, used to be have life and people, but now don't." He shrugged. "So, that I have trees here is kind of unexpected."

"As far as I know," he went on, nudging at a fallen log that appeared to have just come down, were it not for an ample amount of dirt across it. There was no sign of decay at all...It just laid there for who knew how long. "There's nothing stopping us from telling everybody in the world about it all. I, uh, kinda think that'd be a good idea, honestly. But, you see, there are Bad Guys out there..."

He hesitated a moment. "And they apparently quietly control a lot of stuff on Earth, so if we were to start shouting from the treetops that we're out here, there's a good possibility we'd get painted as alien invaders come to take over the world." He laughed. "Which, uh, is kind of nuts. But that's how it is."

"And," he added as an afterthought, "I don't think seeing all this does anything toward making you one of us. I mean, it's something about past lives and stuff, so, er, I guess I'm a reincarnation of someone important from," he waved a hand in the air, "this place."

"That's really sad," Michelle mused, looking off in the direction of Pluto, even if she couldn't properly see it right then. "To know there was life on these planets before...but it's all gone. I mean, it gives some hope for the future, that those worlds can in turn be like, terraformed or something to hold life once more, but that'd be more sciency than I'm comfortable thinking about."

Michelle fell silent, hearing there were bad guys and... "What are they like? The bad guys? Are they like identical to you and the people who're like you or do they look different? How would someone like me be able to tell who's good and who's bad?" Even if she hoped to never have to worry about that, she felt the need to know. Knowledge never hurt. Not really.

"Painted as Alien invaders or just crazy people. Maybe even considered a cult, which I could see why they would do so." She let out a small sigh, brushing her hair back out of her face with her fingers. "And I sure hope so. No offense, but I like learning about all of this? But I'd rather not y'know, have to be involved. If that makes sense."

"It was like a thousand years ago," Nix said with a shrug. "Sad, but...not really anything to worry too much about, ya know?"

"The bad guys...uh, well, some are kinda like me, but wear darker outfits, and have spooky marks here," he put a finger up on the little metal band on his forehead. "But most of 'em look more like, uh, parodies of military people, with funny weapons. Oh, and they have the monsters, too."

"I don't think they'd go the cult angle. I can easily demonstrate that a lot of what I say is true. You can attest to that." He shrugged. "There's way more of them than there is of us, so it's better to hide a bit. For now, anyway."

"It still opens up possibilities, so...it's still pretty cool, so to speak. If sad."

Michelle hummed softly to herself. "So you're like the light to their darkness? That's interesting. Even if it's mostly to the aesthetic side of things. I won't just assume but...if I see darker colors, I'll flee. I don't want to get involved with bad guys. Military people that aren't in official uniforms are automatic red flags, and monsters are...monsters. Noooo way, I don't want anything to do with that."

She let out a sigh and smiled. "Just because you can prove it doesn't mean people won't think it's a cult. There's a reason there's still controversy as to if humans have set foot on the moon, let alone other things that there are people who just will not believe no matter what proof is given to them. Easier to say it's a cult, or people drinking funny water."

"Yeah, I guess so," Nix replied with a nod and a shrug. "Bright and colorful--and frilly in a lot of cases--versus dark and dreary. I wonder why it's like that sometimes, but I think a Wizard did it." Or a wizard-cat, but you know, no need to do too much of an information overload. "If I didn't already have, you know, magic powers, and I found out about a weird cult that visibly had them, I'd be hard pressed to say no...especially if they're not evil."

He squinted and leaned forward some suddenly after a bit. "I'm not sure, but...I think I see something other than trees in the distance..."

"Except then, how would you know that the cult in question wasn't evil? People have a history of doubting things, after all. I mean, you could consider modern day religion a cult, and many of the people that follow it are good -- but then you get those outliers who aren't good but they look the same as anyone else so you can't pick them out of a lineup. With everyone dressed similarly, or in a similar style...I don't know, maybe I'm overly cynical, but I can't see a case of people universally accepting you guys." Not that she'd met any others, not yet, but now she was keeping an eye out.

Then Nix drew her attention to seeing something, and Michelle took in a sharp breath. "What is it, do you think? Maybe...maybe a, I don't know, like....water?"

"Alright, that's true," Nix allowed. "Who knows what you're agreeing to..." He shrugged. "I didn't, really, when I first got my powers, but I also knew I needed to do something, so I wasn't gonna say no. And it's not like I had to sign a contract or something."

He advanced forward some more, and in the gloom beneath the trees, there was...a pile of junk. It sort of looked like the remains of a small building or vehicle of some kind. Possibly once shiny and metallic, but now partially covered over with dirt, grime, and moss. "Huh. First signs of anything other than trees that I've seen so far...I wonder what it was..."

There was also a rather green pond just beyond the wreck. Didn't look very drinkable, all told, but it was definitely something other than trees.

"A contract makes it sound complicated though...I guess it would be complicated when you factor in...this." Michelle gestured towards everything around her -- including the pile of not-tree that was before them by that time.

"I'm not certain, I'm...not exactly familiar with otherworldly technology, especially once it's worn down like this. I'd almost hazard it might've been a car or something similar, but...I don't see anything that would've been a road. You'd think there'd be proof of a road for a vehicle of some sort, so maybe it was just a small...something. Something that doesn't move."

Michelle noticed the green pond -- and said absolutely nothing about it. While dipping feet in water is nice, she wasn't touching that water with any part of her body.

"Maybe if we actually...poke at it, we might can figure out what it was?" Cautiously, Michelle stepped closer, hands reaching out to brush dirt off of the parts she could actually brush dirt off of, unafraid of getting herself a bit dirty in the name of figuring out what a thing was.

The dirt was caked on, but underneath appeared to be undeniably metallic. Very smooth, although any shine of it seemed to be long gone. Nix gently touched it, and moved his finger along a smooth surface to create a three lines smilie face =).

He looked around again. "I wonder if these trees have been growing for a thousand years...if so, there could've been anything here, I think...or maybe everything just stopped until I came back? I dunno. Magic is weird."

It did seem to wobble a bit as they touched it. "Maybe this flew!" he said as he nudged it again. "Flying cars and space ships would be pretty great!" He laughed lightly at that, not being wholly serious.

That said, this was no medieval construction they were poking at.

"I'm not so sure it could be just anything," Michelle mused. "Water and time would make it rust, and surely there must be rain of some sort keeping the trees and grass alive. That would make this look significantly worse if it was left for that long, I'm certain." She keeps brushing dirt off, grasping and pulling on chunks if needed to get to what was underneath.

She always did love a good mystery, and this one didn't seem to be a scary one at that.

"I don't know how all this magical stuff works, so any theory is likely valid, I think. I mean, especially with the fact there's still flora but no fauna. That's...really weird. Unless magic is what keeps the plants growing. And who knows, maybe it helped power this to make it fly, or float. I can see floating being more likely, kinda like capsule cars in the Dragon Ball series. They just, sorta, hover? But I don't know, this is beyond my knowledge. I can theorize all day, but I don't know much science, and even less magic," she laughed.
