__ Before Shouri could open his mouth to answer Karuto's question about training Lahlil arrived unexpectedly. He just smiled at Karuto and Jyn and waited for Lahlil to slowly make her way over to them. Lahlil introduced herself to Jyn and Shouri fought the urge to give the clearly exhausted woman a supportive hug. "Hey Lahlil, I met Jyn at the gym here today. You told me that you were starting to work out so I thought that I should too." He would say after Jyn's introduction for the third time today already. He carefully omitted the detail about the circumstances of their meeting. Shouri's life was pretty simple at this point. If Lahlil did something then obviously it was a good idea for Shouri to follow suit! She seemed to have all the answers to his questions from his mental health to lifestyle changes to even what to watch on TV. Since he was healthy enough to start exercising he thought he might give it a try but he was quite embarrassed at the idea of training with Karuto for fear of not being able to keep up. This was an especially scary proposition now that Lahlil was here to see him drop the bench press bar on his chest. "You're not interrupting anything. Karuto was just asking me if I wanted to train. You said you were gonna start working out too so maybe we could do it together." He figured that if he was being embarrassed by Karuto's advanced training regimen then misery loved company. At least Lahlil was in the same boat as him even if he was still a nervous wreck about his certainly unimpressive performance.

As the third person, a young, broad shouldered, girl walked over to meet them, Karuto waited patiently to what she had to say. When she finished her critique of the establishment, Karuto flashed her a grin and a thumbs up "Thank you, Jyn! I am Karuto Raiken, owner of this location! Your praise is like a protein shake for the heart!" Around then he heard the bell by the door ring and cast a curious glance over to who was arriving. He was pleased to find it was Lahlil- the Hokage having caught up to him much quicker than he thought she would! He leaned back against the squat rack, tucking his left hand underneath his right armpit, the closest thing he could get to crossing his arm anymore!
As Lahlil finished making her introductions and questioned Karuto as to what he was doing, he leaned towards her and lightly flicked her on the forehead "Just waiting for you, slowpoke. I had to get a quick workout in after that light jog this morning!" He said followed by a round of deep laughter- knowing full well that that light jog had nearly wore her out. Still, if he didn't push her, who would? Yet, even in his training he had failed her from day one. His personal feelings for the woman wouldn't let him push her as hard as he would another disciple and, what's worse, he suspected she thought as much. He had grown good at hiding it, but a decade of familiarity and numerous battles had caused the Raiken to grow rather...fond of her. His gaze lingered a second too long, his charisma slightly more restrained, his laugh a tad bit louder- all signs pointing to his true thoughts, all signs he did he best to suppress.
Stepping away from the squat rack, Karuto started walked towards the corner of the gym and a set of oaken double doors. He, of course, motioned for all of them to follow him. Once he reached the set of heavy doors he extended his arms outwards and pushed, throwing them both wide open "Welcome to my Iron Temple!" He called out, his voice booming over the landscape. The room was half the size of the public gym and much more sparsely declared, but held weights up to twice the size of the normal ones. Multiple weight lifting stations were scattered around the room and mixed in with a collection of free weights, martial arts dummy's and sand punching bags. As they stepped into the room a speaker system kicked on, playing a song from Karuto's custom playlist. In tandem with that, the lights in the center of the room flicked on revealing a fill size boxing ring.
Turning around, he pointed to Lahlil "Go do your cool-down stretches so you don't cramp up or injure yourself. Out there you might be Hokage, but this is my show in here" He said, warmly yet firmly. Then, turning on the two others, he spoke "In the meantime, lets see what you two can do!" He turned on his heel and strode towards the ring. Sitting on a bench nearby was a couple pair of gloves. He tossed both of a set "Go down to your undershirt and put those on. No weapons in the ring either"
Karuto stepped into the ring himself at that time, stepping over the third rope. Once inside, he bounced around, keeping his legs stretched out. As he did he removed his shirt and threw it to the side, revealing a large and hairy, yet insanely scared, chest. Despite having the chest of a small bear, it was incredibly defined. His abs were full and pronounced as was his pectorals- yet, despite it all, people would inevitably be drawn to his arm. With his shirt off one could fully see the mutilation: how the skin pulled taunt and ended in a jagged, unnatural, nub. How the muscles in his right arm had twisted and knotted back in an uneasy pattern and how, despite his best effort, Karuto had been unable to retrain his body to use most of the functionality of his right upper arm.
Using his teeth, Karuto struggled to put on his glove for his left hand, and endeavored to do so despite the availability of help. Hopefully while he was doing this everyone else was getting ready so that he didn't have to wait once finished!
Jyn inclined their head politely to Lahlil. "It is a pleasure. I am Juniper Nara, but Jyn works just fine, too." They turned to listen to Shouri defend his working out, then Karuto's hearty teasing. Jyn narrowed their eyes at the exchange... could it be that both of them had feelings...?
They shook their head to forbid the thought. Regardless of the reality of the situation, they were not in any place to discuss such a thing with three higher ranking individuals of the village. Hesitantly but obediently, Jyn followed Karuto to the boxing ring, expecting to spar with Shouri, but froze at the sight of Karuto putting on a glove himself. "I am unfamiliar with the rules of boxing, but are you expecting Shouri and I to throw some punches or are we going to be sparring with you?" Their tone revealed some apprehensiveness at the task - Karuto was very physically intimidating despite his warm personality, and Jyn held no illusion that they could land a hit on such an experienced shinobi.
Subconsciously, Jyn's concern had them glance at Lahlil as the authority figure, wondering if she would step in or if she would sit back and watch whatever would happen, happen. It's not they were concerned too much about being hurt but they weren't sure they would put up a good challenge against Karuto, or even the more experienced Shouri. But they obeyed anyways, stripping down to an undershirt that revealed they were considerably muscled from their own taijutsu and bukijutsu training; the chest was unclearly defined from the compressive nature of their undershirt, and their bare hands slipping into the gloves were average sized with callouses, giving away little to any interested parties.

The Hokage wasn't in their office? This was a welcome change of pace. The woman spent too much time in that stuffy room in their opinion. Their senses from across the village had brought them to Karuto's establishment, and from here they chose not to try and pinpoint Lahlil, but rather just head inside and search the old fashioned way. To their chagrin, since they had not yet developed a more focused technique to hide just themselves, they had to black out the entirety of the gym, a dense wave of chakra blacking out the building, concealing any details about their energy from other sensors, dojutsu techniques, and even sages themselves. Much like always, they strode with a purpose, turning their neck in a robotic manner to and fro.
It wasn't long until they had found their way to the Iron Temple portion as the proprietor had dubbed it, taking stock of those present, staring at the four for a single second each, lingering on none. As this was not a pressing briefing or assignment, but an individual working matter, they chose to treat it as a personal matter and not interrupt any of the training or sparring that was evidently to take place shortly. The operative would retreat to linger on a far wall, facing the ring and the others, standing by until they dismissed or addressed. "..." They had to admit, this casual, social air about the room and the business itself seemed pleasant, something that they would not mind partaking in if they had no enlisted into Konoha for a singular purpose. They had their own fulfilling life elsewhere, after all.
tabBiting her lip Lahlil gave a stern look in Karuto's direction, like a mother chastising one of her children. "Now now Karuto you better not abuse my children too in the ring or I'll make you wear a paper dunce hat of shame for a whole day!" Her scolding was only a half joke though she doubted the man would do anything harmful. Despite his bear like appearance the Sannin had a heart of gold. Something she never really thanked him for. I should throw a party for him... I don't think I ever showed my appreciation for what he did. A title isn't a good trade for an arm after all...
Shifting her gaze back over the Nara girl Lahlil studied with renewed interest, wondering if perhaps her namesake was any indication of her bloodline. If so she would very much like to speak with her or maybe even tutor her in the shadow release arts. Whether that was out of some subconscious guilt and not a genuine interest however was lost on her. Keeping close to the ring Lahlil preformed a set of leg stretches first as she usually did when they were going to do their daily jog. As she did a black figure caught her eye. Looking up out of curiosity Lahlil found a being dressed in black and wearing the fox mask popular with the Juei. It was a unique brand of impressive that they could get to places without being noticed, though Lahlil wondered if it perhaps didn't get tiresome at times. Especially when one considered here in the village was supposed to be the only place they could relax. Giving a tiny wave and a smile at the agent the Kage redirected herself back to her warmups.

__ Shouri followed behind Karuto who confidently strolled across the gym like he owned the place and he did. Once he entered the dark room it was quickly illuminated on a single point in the center revealing the boxing ring. He could tell what it was by the ropes surrounding it and sighed in anxiousness. When directed to he removed his jacket, shoulder armor, straps, and white collared overshirt. His white undershirt was all that remained as he set his katana aside which he always carried around because every Uchiha needed his "family sword." When he looked over at Karuto who was only able to wear one boxing glove Shouri's nervous smile broke into a frown. He stared pensively at the gloves while Jyn asked honestly more important questions. Shouri slipped only one boxing glove onto his right hand and left the other one next to his sword on the floor outside of the ring. As he tried to climb over the ropes he clumsily fell flat on his bottom before jumping back up and chuckling lightheartedly. He put his left arm behind his back and raised his right arm. "Don't think I'm making fun of you, Karuto. I know you could beat me up even if I used two hands but I'm not doing this with you at any disadvantage. It's weird, I know, but I'm not changing my mind." The timid young Uchiha's voice became more confident but with still a distinct sense of warmth. He knew that if he fought Karuto or Jyn with one hand that he was going to get beat even harder and that Karuto likely wanted to teach him how to use both of his hands. However, none of those factors mattered to him more than what seemed like the right and fair thing to do for someone he respected who happened to have a handicap from his service to the village no less. "I'll do my best but don't be surprised if you guys knock me out first!" His excited tone betrayed his immense anxiety but he did not want to let his fears overwhelm his first interactions with two potentially good new friends. The masked assumed ANBU operative standing at the edge of the ring was making him uncomfortable and not doing much to alleviate his anxiety but he tried to put them out of his mind to focus on the other two in the ring with him. He also had to put the fact that Lahlil was watching out of his head because he knew that thought would just put more pressure on him.

Kikan stepped through the doorway of the dojo, owned and operated by the famous shinobi Karuto, and inhaled deeply. The rustic smell that reminded him of his youth, and the scent of wood filled him with thoughts of the vast forests of the world. He had only wanted to stop in to visit, but something called to him. The place always had a way of getting him to train whenever he came. Today was different for him, however. The Hokage had something special for him he'd heard, so he wanted to turn in his report and find out the secret as soon as possible. Mind set, Kikan turned around as he big farewell to the dojo, and set forth for the Kage's Office.

A grunt of acknowledgement would be all that Lahlil got back from Karuto as he used his teeth to tighten the last of the straps around his glove. Once it was on he slapped his chest with it to test it's grip- a sound akin to rolling thunder breaking over the gym as a result. Once he was satisfied it was on good, he paid more attention to the genin as they joined him in the ring. Unfortunately, only one of them had correctly followed the provided instructions. As Shouri settled into his best imitation of a boxer's stance with one arm behind his back, Karuto's brow furrowed and his smile wavered "Shouri, you misunderstand the purpose of training. We train in a similar method to how we fight in battle. You would not fight an opponent on the battlefield with one arm tied behind your back nor shall you train here with one. It is your duty!" He said, pounding his chest for emphasis "As a warrior of Konoha to give it your best every day! I expect this from all of our men and women in the leaf! Now, if you refuse to follow these directions, remove your gloves, step outside the ring and do not distract us from our training"
After reprimanding the male, Karuto went onto describe the basic rules and regulations of boxing to Jyn, and Shouri if he complied, as well as instructing them on how to throw basic jabs and blows. After five minutes of rudimentary training, Karuto pointed his glove to his chest and, grinning all the while, said "Now! Hit me!"
Jyn watched Shouri as he decided to not fight with one arm, tucking that information away in their observations of him. It was an interesting choice, though Jyn thought Karuto's decades of experience - they presumed - would put him an arm and a leg over them both. Jyn commended Karuto silently for his small speech about them giving their all every day as a part of their duty.
Understanding the rules of boxing, but considering anyways a full-out taijutsu brawl, Jyn bounced from foot to foot as they prepared. They came up slowly, still feeling apprehensive about the permission to strike him. "I will give it my best, but I expect you to say something if either of us really hurt you," Jyn promised earnestly. Then they took a jab at Karuto's chest, face flinching slightly at the idea of hitting his hard chest.

With the others sufficiently occupied and Lahlil not having started any major tasks as of yet, they took the latter's wave as a signal and approached. Rendering honors with a brief kneel, Ji got back to their feet. "Forgive my interruption, Ma'am. Director Soga's recommendation should be forwarded to your office by the end of the day. I am here to request taking a Jounin Examination. I know I am ready for further responsibilities within the ANBU." Personally, it did not make much sense to Ji to seek higher promotion Jounin for the sake of being an entry level ANBU, but that is why they were just an initiate. It was a bit early to consider trying to be a captain or team leader.
__ Shouri expected the scolding he would receive from Karuto but he was not bothered by it. He smiled warmly before gently shaking his head in variance. "Sorry Karuto, that still doesn't sound right to me. Don't let me get in your way though, I'll just watch for now." He politely addressed and dismissed himself from the disagreement. Shouri slipped the glove off his hand before climbing over the ropes. He looked over at the ANBU speaking with Lahlil and elected to keep his distance for now by sitting on the mats and watching Karuto and Jyn's training. Shouri had to acknowledge that he was curious about how his disability would be compensated for by the skilled martial artist.

Karuto wouldn't devote any more of his time nor energy to Shouri at juncture. The kid had a horrendous misunderstanding of what it meant to push oneself and until he realized that he would never be able to reach his true potential. No, he would deal with that at a later date- for right now he had to focus on the young flame standing in the ring with him. As Jyn's fist collided with his chest, Karuto didn't so much as flinch. It was as if the girl had struck a wall for all the good it did. Still, it did give Karuto a good feel for her overall strength level as well as a first hand look at her technique. Raising one gloved hand into the air at chest height, Karuto spoke "Very good Jyn! I could feel the determination in the blow!" Shifting his legs back and turning his hips perpendicular to her, Karuto cocked his own fist back "But to deliver a truly splendid punch, you need to use your whole body- not just your arm! Observe!" Grinning like a fool who was in the midst of his favorite activity, Karuto went through the motions of delivering a full punch with exaggerated slowness. Once finished, he stood back up straight and placed his gloved hand on his hip "Tell me young Jyn, why do you wish to become a Shinobi?"
Jyn's jaw dropped at the solidity of Karuto - he was completely unmoved! They listened intently to Karuto's instructions, mimicking the movement as he explained it. Then he asked them a tougher question. "Well. I never used to live in the village itself for a long time, but the war made it really difficult for my family to survive on our own so we had to move into the village for protection. But... my grandparents tire of village life. They want to return to the simple life with the tribe. I fear they have reached their wit's end with the bustling area here and will leave soon. I have pursued the ninja arts for the last few years because it is my duty to protect my family and my tribe."
Their expression had initially been hard to read, but now there was embarrassment present. Jyn was not here for their own sake but the sake of their family, and as honorable as that may be, it made them feel removed from their own personhood. That they had no autonomy. Jyn wanted a better answer for Karuto, but it was a sad and simple truth.

tabIn the midst of her warm up did there come the cloaked agent Lahlil had spotted earlier came to kneel at her feet. There was something that she was going to have to get used to still. Meanwhile, from across the village Sadayo's missive had indeed just found it's way to Lahlil's clone stationed at her office. With a puff of dissipation the messages contents were transmitted to the real Lahlil who only frowned. Now this is a real pickle.. still.. an opportunity did just decide to pop itself up at least.."Oh, well.. I suppose I do have something I can give you although it's not a conventional test by any means." Turning back to give a nod to Karuto, Lahlil moved away from the group to allow them more privacy. "Since the destruction of Uzu there have been a lot of missing persons reports, even after these five years. Some of a higher importance over others." The tone used implied that whomever this target was, they had intimate knowledge of the village and were high ranking. "Director Soga will have more information on your target. I would like you to travel with her in tracking down this individual and bringing them back to the village." Despite the attempted formality in her voice Lahlil held a twinge of hesitation. A part of her disliked taking the free will of another human being away from them, hopeful this person's return to the village was over anything else at all and not a desire to go rogue. But even she couldn't deny the danger to civilians if he had. "I want them brought back alive. It is unclear as of yet if they have gone rogue and I would prefer them be giving a choice. If they prove to be both rogue and a danger to the village... then you have my permission to eliminate them as long as doing so does not put your own life in danger. Director Soga will offer me a full report of your actions which I will use to evaluate you afterwards. Happy hunting!"

Ji moved back and away from the others, doing as bidden by their leader. They welcomed an unconventional test, since all they knew about the standard tests were that 99% were an absolute bore and yielded nothing of substance. A retrieval mission could go either way, and accompanying the Director would place less of a performance strain on Ji no matter how it went. Not that they could or would refuse. They were glad for the individual nature of the examination. As an ANBU, the teamwork was always emphasized for much higher profile teams, something a normal Genin would do. They had to admit, they were felling very confident, and the evaluation being done by Sadayo was icing on the cake. They made no movement or gesture throughout the assignment until the very end. "Understood." Just like that, the ANBU was gone, not in a flash or blur of speed, but quite literally vanishing without a sound.
