"... Fat Amy. Did you really?" Just knowing the name of the vehicle made Landry relax a little more, smiling in the dark at the ridiculousness of it all. It was more like worn down, broken Amy, but he got the reference, atleast.
"Alright, I believe you. Fat May will keep us safe." The gentle strokes of Gryphon's thumb against his skin helped as well, and soon enough, the rumbling and roaring of so-called 'Fat Amy' was less obvious. It faded into the background like the buzzing of a ceiling fan. Harmless but there.
After the whole initial awkwardness, relaxing came surprisingly easy, as did smiling to himself. It helped that it was dark in the truck as they drove along, no opportunity for Gryph to tease him too much.
"Good, good. I'm getting used to having you around now. I don't think I'll be getting 'bored' of you any time soon. You're too peculiar to ignore."

Gryphon couldn't help but grin at the road before him and roll his shoulders dismissively at the incredulous tone Landry's voice had taken after hearing the name of his truck. Yeah, he knew it was ridiculous, and certainly not the first name his ol' girl had had, given her age... But Landry probably didn't need to know she only had it at all to humor one of his past flings. He'd keep that thought to himself.
He keep his focus forward. Even thought traffic was minimal at this hour, Gryphon didn't expect Landry was the type of thrill-seeker who would appreciate speeding or zipping through deserted red lights. And Gryph was only very infrequently in a rush, anyway.
"Think you mean 'obnoxious' more than 'peculiar,' but I'll take it either way, y'know. I'm not too picky."
Really, he should probably just feel grateful that Landry ever willingly saw him at all, since it wasn't as if Gryphon could blame the other man for that sense of disgust they'd had at their first meeting... And that he was awake and willing to go out at all at a time like this- "Oi, I am surprised you were still up, though," Gryphon admitted as the thought crossed his mind. "Didn't know if you had plans or anything for tomorrow or what you do when someone's not bothering you, so figured it was a toss up if you were even awake."

’Fat Amy’s’ loud roar became almost soothing in it’s consistency, and Landry leaned against the side door, eyes slipping close for a little bit as the lights of the street flickered on by.
... It was nice. He had no complaints at all and could simply say he was enjoying the strange, loud peace.
“No plans or anything, but I sleep early when I can. College will do that to you if you take it seriously. Though I’m nearing the end, so classes are in the afternoons, not mornings anymore. Give it another hour and I would have been fast asleep. I don’t stay up late often at all. I take it you are given... ‘work’?”

Maybe subconsciously Gryphon had sort of accidentally assumed that Landry had late nights... because Lori had late nights. He knew better than to outright say as much to the blond boy's face, considering how snappish he'd been the first time Gryph mentioned that they might share a similarity, but Lan was a bit of a mother hen, and it wouldn't have struck Gryphon as odd if he stayed up to ensure that he'd be able to help his wayward sister out of any situations that rose up.
And Gryphon imagined situations rising up with decent frequency.
"You take classes?" Gryphon hummed as his gaze flicked to Landry leaning against the side door before pinning back on the road. "In what? How much longer do you have?" No one had ever mentioned classes before... Or any sort of activities or jobs outside the home. Gryphon sometimes forgot college existed, since it wasn't like he'd ever gone.
He smiled faintly. "S'pose I was out when I called you 'cause of work," he agreed. "But it don't always happen that way."

"Yes, in Professional Photography. It's almost over... I think the end of this upcoming school year and I'll be done. I've already got plenty of experience and all that, so finding a permanent position won't be too hard. Huh... I can't believe I never told you that. then again, have you ever asked?" It came out far more accusatory than Landry had meant and he felt a tiny bit bad about it. Not much to say beyond that, though... As a little apology, he turned his hand over within Gryph's grasp and laced their fingers together.
After so long, he forgot how much he actually enjoyed physical contact like this...
"I like the idea of you coming over and wanting to see me not because you're already out. But thinking of me is enough, I suppose. How much further until we arrive?"

The end of the school year. "That's just a couple months from now, ain't it?" Right? Okay, maybe not a couple in the sense that it was only two, but colleges had those weird, short schedules different from high school, so it wasn't as many months as it would be if Landry was just a teenager. ...Gryphon was pretty sure. How old had Landry said he was again? He almost didn't seem old enough to be graduating college...
But what did Gryph know on the matter? Next to nothing if it involved college, that was for sure.
He shrugged his shoulders at blondie's snippy attitude. "Just asked, didn'ai?" He only barely even knew what was 'typical' when people graduated, but Gryphon was pretty sure at least a decent handful moved away to pursue careers in their chosen field. If Landry was going to be a photographer, maybe he'd want to move to where all the photogenic people were... Like California, or Florida. Or Connecticut.
Gryphon glanced to their laced fingers and gave a tiny squeeze. "Do you got any idea where you're gonna go after?" It shouldn't matter, since they really weren't all that close, yet, but still...
"I didn't figure you'd wanna be bothered too often, but I did want to see you, or I wouldn'ta asked at all, y'know?" He flashed a grin in Landry's direction. "Could be a ways," he admitted. "Gotta get all the way outta town, mate, away from all this light and noise. If you wanna take a nap, I won't hold it against ya."

"I suppose it is. In the spring. You did just ask, right. Don't think about it too much. I won't either." As much as it seemed natural to banter back and forth, Landry was far too tired to continue it. An easy conversation was what he wanted, not something that would cause issues between them after they already had their first strange stumbling.
"When it's all over, I think I'd just stay here. My sister won't leave the city, and I know I can't leave her behind. There's plenty to see around here, and if my works involves a bit of travel, that'd be nice to. I could also just be a freelance photographer as I do now. There's a few brands I photograph exclusively, so there's no lack of work." The thought of leaving the town for any extended period of time was unsettling. He'd miss the city too much to be away from it for long.
He'd miss his home, his work, his sister... And Gryph. He'd miss that man too.
"Mmm..." A nap didn't sound all that bad, really. And... It would do alot towards trusting Gryph is he felt comfortable to sleep around. Hopefully it would also help Gryph with his own mistrusts and concerns too.
"I don't mind you bothering me. I'll say it straight, I like you Gryphon, and I like being around you. It's nice, but don't think too deeply on it. And... Just wake me up when we get there, okay?'

It was weirdly pleasing that Landry didn't intend to move to Connecticut after he graduated. There were enough sights to see in Destiny City and its surroundings that it kept things from being boring. It didn't compare to Gryphon's home, in all its natural glory, of course, but maybe the mountains and forests and lakes were among the reasons Gryphon could stomach hanging around here, himself...
There were other things he wanted to ask, 'Ever had your pictures put in a magazine?' Or 'Met anyone I'd know?' Or 'Is there a kink of yours somewhere in here?' But Landry seemed as if he was pretty wound down, and Gryphon didn't want to press too much.
Instead, he reached, looping an arm around Landry's shoulders to gently coax the blond man into leaning his way, rather than toward the door. He didn't have the same qualms His majesty had about them touching. And it'd be more comfortable, wouldn't it?
It was fine.
"I like you too, Lan, or I wouldn'ta bothered coming to get you," Gryphon hummed softly, rubbing his thumb against the back of Landry's neck and shooting blondie a quick grin before refocusing on the road. "I'll wake you up in twenty minutes or so. Don't go full out on me."

Landry had expected more question, but to his surprise none came. Even more surprising was the arm that came about him and pulled him close.
Sirens went off his head, and he panicked for a moment at the sudden closeness of it all. Nothing about it was rough, and while he was startled, Gryphon had been careful with his touches.
He said he liked Landry. The affection was mutual and... ******** it. He was tired and the man beside him was big and warm and his very presence was soothing. No wonder Lori liked dating around.. Having someone focus on you and solely on you with such warmth in their eyes was nothing less than incredible.
"Alright then.." His eyes began to close again, this time letting the world fade out around him. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep either, rocked by Fat Amy's rumbling and the feel of Gryphon breathing under him.

Gryphon had wanted to get out of the city, away from the sounds, away from the lights, away from distractions, away from any accidental passerby.
Admittedly, he understood why someone as pretty and slender and, for lack of a better word, weak as Princess Lan might be kind of put off by the thought, when it involved alone time with someone as intimidating as Gryphon, who Landry still had only met a handful of times. There were creeps out there. Gryph got it. And it wasn't like he was innocent, himself, drug trade aside... He could hardly help but slide a palm around Lan's back to settle a hand at his hips and hold him just a fraction closer while the blond boy rested.
But that at least wasn't the full extent of his intentions this night, though he'd be lying if he said the boundless expanse of beautiful sky and seclusion of the outdoors didn't inspire some desire for things to turn a little more intimate...
The gravel side road was a bit louder to drive on than the smooth asphalt of the street, and the added bumps were jarring even in his truck that was perfectly content to go offroading. He didn't know what the path had once been for, as it didn't seem to lead to anything besides a short stretch of field surrounded by a crescent of trees. Maybe there'd been a cabin here once, or there was some underground water or oil line that had needed maintenance at some point. Gryphon didn't know. The fact was that there was nothing of note visible now besides tall grasses and the eerie shadow of large, old trees.
"Hey, Lan?" Gryph asked, giving the younger man a gentle shake. "Wanna wake up? We're here."

Only a few moments passed before Landry was sound asleep.
It wasn’t comfortable. His neck was twisted awkwardly. He felt every single bump and crack in the road, Fat Amy quaking with each movement. But he was content enough in this moment. Never had he imagined a date (because he would most certainly consider this another date, just one at night), to begin with a long drive out of the city. Nor would he have imagined he was with present company.
But he liked it. Landry liked it alot.
By the time they arrived, he was well and deeply asleep, having pressed closer at some point. It was only the sudden sound of silence that came with the truck turning off, and the gentleness of Gryphon’s voice that woke him up. If allowed, he likely would have slept the whole night long.
“Hmm...?” Bright purple eyes finally opened to meet darkness. “... Here... Ah.”
Rubbing his eyes a little, he fully sat up, trying to see out beyond the windshield, but not being able to see much of anything.
“... Just how far out are we?”

"Er..." Gryphon squinted back in the direction of Destiny City. There were enough trees and budding mountain ridges to obscure any form of civilization from view, and he gave a roll of his shoulders. "Dunno exactly," he admitted. "Maybe twenty miles of so. Not far. If it wasn't for all the nature in the way, you could probably still see it." But not seeing it suited Gryphon just fine. That was what he wanted, after all.
He grinned at Landry's bleary-eyed expression. "I won't keep ya up if you're tired, but maybe we can get a little more comfy before you start dozing again. Gimme a sec before you try and get out. The grass is tall, and I don't want you steppin' on nothin.'" It was summer, so plenty warm enough for snakes and bugs, even- or rather, especially- at night.
Gryphon was less concerned about these things himself. No American beastie was anywhere near as frightening or dangerous as their Aussie counterparts.
He stepped from the truck, only to turn and open the back door to the cab, where he rummaged for both his thick winter sleeping bag, and the more airy summer one. Extra padding wouldn't hurt anyone. As he rounded the back of his vehicle, he tossed the rolled up sleeping bags into the bed of his truck and moved to the passenger side to open Landry's door. "Need a lift, Princess?"

So, far. Plenty far enough that the ever bright glow of the city was off in the distance, below the horizon and blocked from view. Suddenly, Landry began to feel hyper aware of his surrounded. His heart began to race with apprehension over the darkness that surrounded him. Again, he did not feel safe, but for an entirely different reason.
And then Gryphon left him all alone. Yes, it was only for a few moments, but long enough that the sound of Landry’s own heartbeat began to resound in his ears, and he near jumped out of his skin when his car door opened.
“... So far... Not liking the dark so much.” He confessed softly, not daring to move away from the somewhat-security of the truck. Try as he might, he knew it was going to take a little bit of time before his eyes got used to the darkness around them. “And the silence... Well, not silence but lack of civilization, that’s a bit intimidating.... What, are you wanting to carry me somewhere? Where even to?”

Gryphon blinked at the strangely apprehensive look Landry had to him. But no, he'd somewhat expected something along these lines, hadn't he? They were away from anyone who could help him if he was concerned over Gryph doing something dastardly, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Gryphon's expression softened to something he hoped was a little more encouraging. "'S a'right, Lan," he said quietly. "Promise there's nothing bad out here."
Though it was significantly dimmer without the headlights blaring from his truck, Gryphon found that he wasn't quite as blinded as Landry seemed to be. The stars were out in full, entire suns blazing trillions of light years away, creating enough of a dim glow that it wasn't simply black.
He held out a hand first to take one of Landry's own, but when that didn't seem quite quick enough, Gryphon leaned in and tugged, dragging the smaller man up and over his shoulder as if he was little more than a sack of potatoes. "I just didn't want you fallin' into this tall grass, Lan," Gryphon explained as he moved to pull down the tailgate of his truck with his free arm. From there it was just the right amount of distance between the lowered tailgate and Landry's legs that he could set him on his feet and peer up at him with a grin. "There ya go. Now you can look up, and it doesn't seem so dark without a roof over ya, mm?"

”Nothing bad? What of snakes? And wolf spiders? And bobcats... and wolves and... H-hey!” Atleast when he was suddenly picked up pushed his fear out of his mind, replacing it with a shoulder to his gut.
“Oof... Ow...” It was more of an ‘ow’ of surprise than an ow of actual pain. “Give me a little warning next time, okay? I would have gotten out... Eventually.”
After their little snafu earlier about trust, he wasn’t about to throw another fuss about it, especially given that he was half asleep still. And they weren’t going exactly far.
Once he was on his feet again, he gave Gryph a half glare, unsure if the other could even see him in this light. ... Landry hated to say it, but the older man was right... Slowly the world became brighter around them, and the stars above them were nothing less than brilliant.
“... Yes, it is less dark... It’s... Huh... It’s beautiful, Gryph...” The glare melted away into an expression of sheer awe. Vaguely, he wondered where his own star was... “Do you... Um...”
Words were a little hard to form while he gazed up, so he tore his eyes from the sky back to the man before him. “Do you know any constellations...?”
