- She relented, and easily. The male paused as she spoke, head shaking.
"You're not used to the heat. If we travel any closer you'll dehydrate. It's better we get water now." Maybe he could bring her back home. They allowed the introduction of strangers, after all. Sure he might get a look, but Sandstorm trusted in his ability to identify who might be useful to the pack. Although right now he didn't understand his gut. She was clearly struggling with the heat and hadn't yet shown any skills they'd need. Yet, Sandstorm had ignored his gut once and it was a disaster.
He wouldn't ignore it again.
They were close to the river, luckily. His tail flicked absently, mimicking her own as it kept with his stride. "Hunting?" Aha, there it was. They always needed hunters. Would she be able to hunt in this heat? He was acting as if she had already agreed to join the pack! She hadn't, but his gut said something good would happen if he accommodated her curiosities.
He did pause as she mentioned her second hobby. Poetry? Now that was new -- he had never met a wolf who enjoyed such a thing. He wasn't even sure he was creative enough to do the same. No, he absolutely wasn't. He laughed gently -- a sound less playful mocking and more genuine.
"It's neat. I like it," he admitted, although instantly he was distracted once he could smell the river. "I was right, we're really close. Take a minute to cool off and I suppose I can honor our agreement." He padded ahead of her, intent on taking a drink himself before they went back out. Sure, he had another thing to be doing, but bringing a potential new member near the pack was more beneficial for them.
