Rothgar / Candidate / Apprentice Weyrherd (his last post) "Ah--! Of course all eggs are special," he replied hastily. "I didn't mean to imply that you weren't. It's just that... well..." He could not finish his sentence. He was at a loss. The dragon's mind sounded shy in his mind. Yet it had contradicted him without hesitation. And it was right, of course. These eggs were no different than other eggs, probably. Just like the eggs sired by a blue were no different than a bronze's. "Actually, I think you're right. Thank you." For telling him he was wrong. Eventually, Rothgar met each egg in turn. When he was done, he bowed again to Starelth. He was so fascinated by the experience that he sat down in the sand and ruminated upon it until the Candidate Master would call them to finish up. Chellemana / Candidate / Apprentice Winemaker "Well, it is a tradition to have a Touching. I don't think you must meet your rider at a Touching. I saw people Impress from the audience and they had never met the dragon in the egg. But it is possible for a dragon not to Impress, I think, so they try to give the egg the best chance to succeed." Daft questions! "Well. I asked because I was being polite!" Or I thought I was. The egg's mental shove so surprised them that Chelle fell on their rear and bumped into one of the eggs. No! Not Shadow! Chellemana dusted themself off and laid their hand upon Shadow Egg. Might as well speak with this one. "Hi. So. You upset my sister. Good job." "Hey!" Nashanna / Candidate / Apprentice Glassmaker Nashanna grumped her way past Maroon Red and glared at Gradient Blue. The play of color soothed her somewhat and she reached out to touch it. The darker areas dipped inward slightly, creating an interesting, engrossing effect. She took a deep breath. "I'm Nashanna. Pleased to meet you." She couldn't think of anything to say, so she just stared at it, letting its thoughts flow over her. "Do you know who you're waiting for? Will you know if you see them today?"

Fisher / Candidate / ?? a...fisherThat had been weird, but not entirely unwelcome. Fisher had caught something of a blur as well as a sort of feeling of wanting to be...praised? Or something? She wasn't exactly going to be thinking deep on this, not when it was...an egg...and so everything more or less got brushed back. The egg got a nice pat for its troubles (that was Fisher's thanks) and she went on to touch a few others here and there. Her steps had her settle on the Magenta Speckle egg, where she placed her hand and wondered what other sort of weirdness was going to come her way.

Shadow @ Chellemana Their awesomeness was just too much for that one to handle. It's not Shadow's fault. They had her best interest at heart, really. Wouldn't you like to be apart of their appeal? Hm? That is why your here is it not? They are simply the best. Gradient Blue @ Nashanna Greeting Nashanna. Do you notice the little creatures in life? They are everywhere should you look. Gradient Blue considered the question about theirs. It gave her a mental shrug. If theirs came then they came, if not that was fine too. They didn't mind working alone. Magenta Speckle @ Fisher Fisher gets a feeling of anticipated waiting from Magenta Speckle when she lays her hand upon its egg. The feeling goes on for some time before if feels as though the egg sighs when no greeting was forthcoming for it. Well if she wanted quiet comradeship it could do that too. It settled down to be a silent companion with her for as long as she stayed.

Aessa gave another shy smile of her own at the return from the magenta speckle. Seems the dragons wre just as excited for the event as she and the other candidates were! Speaking of other candidates, it seemed Fisher was eager for her spot. She gave another weak smile as she detatched from it and waved, moving on to sidle around the eggs. She found a comfortable opening behind the gradient blue and looked upon the massive Maroon Red. Like the other eggs she had approached, it deserved her awe before she would extend her hand, beginning to tremble with the effort to keep calm about so many. While she wondered how long her resolve would last, she felt the egg's feelings about putting up with the day and ducked her head smartly. "I won't... take up much time. Promise." She pushed her smile to be more jolly than fearful, and brought to mind all the things that made her happy, the menial chores, a perfectly organized bookshelf in the library, and watching the riders fly their drills in the early mornings and late afternoons on the backgrounds of sunrises and sunsets. ~Are you at least enjoying the festivities? Looking forward to anything specific?~ To the candidate master, who knew me better than others might, the piteous attempt at minimizing my visibility behind the great egg wouldn't be lost, though I made sure to remain in the sight of some authority figure or another. And they might get the feeling this would be one of my last touchings for the day, as my patience with social encounters began to wear thin.

Maroon Red @ Aessa It wasn't really directed at you Aessa, it's only being a dutiful egg. Maroon Red seemed to listen intently to her happy list. Well that was interesting. It knows why you're here, but why is Maroon Red here? Do you know? Festivities? What festivities? Aessa could feel the egg getting grumpy as it shifted slightly beneath her hand. What was there to look forward to? It wasn't like it could do anything. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Starelth watched the candidates and the eggs. Things were going smoothly for the most part though she could feel a couple disturbances. Her whirling green eyes turned to find Aessa and Maroon Red, but she just watched them for the moment.

Demanthra/Candidate/Apprentice Harper Demanthra had been looking forward to this, seeing what the newest batch of eggs would be like. She was glad she was in the first group, it meant they would be the first to interact with the babies in the eggs, other than their parents and the rider of their parents. So, with the rest of her group, she headed down to the hatching sands, wearing her white robes and sandals, her hair up in her usual braid. She could feel the heat from the sands, as she bowed to the green and her rider. "Thank you for the privilege of getting to meet your babies,"she spoke gently, as she came back up. It still felt weird, to think it used to be golds they would do this with, but now it was greens. Though, it was nice to think of too, since she had always felt kind of bad for the greens to never really get to be mothers. Same for the blues, such as her sister's blue, who never would have the opportunity to sire a clutch like this before now. Once she had made the proper acknowledgements, she looked around at the eggs. Then her eyes fell on the yellow green egg, before she approached it and placed a hand on it. Hello in there, little one. I do hope you are doing alright in there. You seemed a little unsure if you should reach out, so I thought maybe I could reach out to you instead,she thought gently. The feeling she was getting from the egg reminded her of her siblings, both good, but sometimes unsure in social situations.

Yellow Green @ Demanthra Salutations candidate, it replied because that was the nice thing to do for someone who spoke to you. Yellow Green felt it was doing quite well all in all. The egg seemed interested in what Demanthra liked to do.

Serfie donned the stolen candidate knots and some smart clothing she had pilfered from a pile of discarded laundry and, from a side tunnel to the sands, one candidates had used to sneak peeks at eggs on the sands for generations, judging from the smoothness of the walls where hands had held on while heads leaned out to see, moved, unnoticed onto the sands, coming out nearest to the Shadow Egg, it being the first and closest, she decided to touch it first, her heart pounding, risking everything on the basis that there had been so much upheaval lately, no one would notice a small, scruffy scarred child, with candidate knots, as anything odd among the rest. "hey egg" she whispered, her mouth dry "you're pretty"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Farellen strode out with the rest of the candidates, again sure that somewhere here was HIS dragon, his eyes drawn to the smaller Teal Striped Egg "hey little egg, can't wait to see you hatch, maybe come find me yeah?" he murmured, knowing the egg would pick up more on his thoughts more than his words, but he liked to speak too.
Aessa pushed to keep her smile at the egg, its questions slowing her eagerness some. ~Well, the... The fun things all planned around you and your siblings.~ She stroked the great egg's surface like one might a firelizard in their arms and suppressed a shiver. ~You may not be able to do much right now, but in a short while, you will be free... able to spread your wings and play with your siblings.~ She thought hard to bring up images of clutches past, sleeping their long hours and then being fed and playing with their chosen, or their brethren, and some of the early lessons many of the human halves found boring. In her mind, though, those long, dull lessons were an exciting prospect that helped to beat down some of her nerves.
Aessa wasn't long in coming to awareness of the great green mother's gaze, glancing up to return it briefly.
Shadow @ Serfie Oh ho! What a cheeky girl you are, sneaking in here like that. Shadow saw you it did. What are you going to do to pay for it's continued silence? Eh? Of course Shadow is pretty. Shadow is the best in the clutch. At least you have good taste, since you came to it first. Teal Striped @ Farellen It would love to meet all the candidates when it finally hatched. They were all one big team right? Farellen can do it! Teal Stripe believes in you.
Demanthra/Candidate/Apprentice Harper Demanthra heard the polite greeting of the baby in the yellow green egg, he or she was a very kind soul. When it assure her that it was doing well, she smiled, that was always good to hear. Then she felt an interest in her own interests and she was even more reminded of her siblings. Well, I am really into music, especially instruments of every kind. I like to learn what I can about them and seeing if I can make them. I can get very much into anything music related,she explained to the egg. Then she knew she should let others spend time with it, so she said her good byes and how she looked forward to seeing them when they hatched. She looked around and decided on one close to the yellow green egg, gradient blue egg. She waited for the candidate that had their hands on it to finish, before touching it herself. Hello, you seem to like doing things yourself, I see. Wouldn't it be better to have someone to do things with?she asked gently. Of course, she had no doubt that the life within this egg would definitely make something of their life and that of their rider.
Nekoka - Magenta Speckle Egg
Going into the clutch mother was always uncomfortable for Nekoka. He'd done it twice before now and it didn't make it easier. It always felt like he was intruding somewhere he shouldn't. This was a special place for a mother and her children, he felt out of place inserting himself into that situation. That was what candidates did, or at least that's what he was told. The young man stayed near the back of the group, but that didn't really affect his ability to see anything. Candidates dispersed and he found his feet moving him forward out of reflex. Standing before Starelth, he bowed low to the green. Hopefully it was respectful enough, he thought, as he shuffled away.
He should pick one. Oh dear, but which one? It was a waste of the green and the eggs' time if he was just loitering here. Glancing about the candidate stepped towards the nearest egg. It was one of the smaller ones in the clutch and Nekoka had to stoop slightly to touch it. The shell was rough, but he kind of liked it. It was grounding. A sensation for him to latch on to and focus on. The egg didn't immediately jump out at him like others had in the past, but he could feel them there. Just a sort of step away. Maybe they were shy? He understood that. Somewhat awkwardly the young man attempted to reach out to the dragon. Giving a tentative and gentle greeting. Oh no, what if it hadn't reached out because it wanted to be alone? Worry started ebbing into his mind at the thought. What if he was bothering them?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Telleara - Shadow Egg
Well, here they were again. Another clutch, another set of eggs, once again she had to walk onto the sands and play her part. Touchings were by far her least favourite part of this whole thing she had going on. However, her parents had ensured that there was no way for someone to tell Telleara was unhappy unless she wanted them to know. The young woman walked into the hatching cavern with total confidence. Her face adopting an acceptably neutral appearance. Nobody would be able to tell that she didn't want to be here. That she thought it utter pointless. There were no golds anymore. The greens might clutch, but they hadn't made attempts to gain any power from it. The first could have tried, but now? Two greens had clutched, one clutching daughters of her own. Being a clutching dragon was hardly special if almost half the dragons could do it. The chance for the greens to seize authority slipped further away with every green that hatched.
That wasn't Telleara's concern though. She had no intention of impressing a dragon, green or otherwise. She was going to wait out this candidacy and then be gone. Standing before the green clutchmother she gave a pleasant curtsy before moving off. Putting on a face for people she could do. Dragons had been harder, finding out that thinking of a barrier usually kept them out had been helpful. She'd managed to get that tidbit from some weyrfolk, though she'd long forgotten who. Eggs were harder still. The close contact meant keeping them out was virtually impossible. Trying to hide things usually made it worse.
She had to look to be doing her duty though. Stepping close to Shadow Telleara studied the large egg. Dark, of an impressive enough size, not unpleasant to look at she supposed. Placing her hand upon the shell the candidate found it cold. Peculiar. Perhaps they needed more attention from their mother. Telleara kept her thoughts as blank as she could while her hand was on the egg. Let it dismiss her so they could both get on with their days.
Gradient Blue @ Demanthra Nope nope. This one was sure it could do everything itself. It didn't need to rely upon others. Their work was very important you see. Only they could do it, and don't try to say otherwise! Magenta Speckle @ Nekoka Magenta Speckle was patient with Nekoka and waited until he'd reached out it, then it greeted him warmly. Thanks for stopping by. It's really pleased to meet you, so don't worry. They hoped you enjoyed meeting the rest of their siblings. Shadow @ Telleara Your mind says one thing, and your body another. Shadow can see through you. You try to deny it Telleara but you know you want a dragon. Them obviously, cause Shadow is the best. Everyone comes to Shadow sooner or later.
Fisher / Candidate / ?? a...fisherCompletely underwhelmed by the lack of....anything, Fisher pulled her hand back and shrugged. Maybe she wasn't cut out to really understand these eggs, seeing as everyone around her seemed to be in some sort of state. Was there a requirement of some kind that she clearly missed? The green mom dragon wasn't rushing her off, and she had been brought here, so. She moved on, settling to touch the shadow egg with the flat of her hand. A greeting was given, more or less, as Fisher wondered if this egg was going to be another big nothing as well.
