Rolling her eyes at him almost seemed second nature at this point, a slightly suppressed, happy smile accompanying the motion. The ease at which they could still, mostly, interact around each other reminded her of how fond she was of him. Jade excelled in dealing with people but even, the people she fit with so seamlessly were few and far between. These types of relationships were the kind that she desperately wanted to keep in her life despite herself.
Wait and see, she told herself. Wait and see what happened. Take it slow. All things she wasn't necessarily good at but she was working at it.
"Maybe you'll get there~" Jade teased, though she hoped he didn't try to over exert himself just on the off chance he could impress her by doing so.
Watching him work through his routine was fascinating in it's own way and she wondered how long it took him to get to this point. Months had spanned since he'd exited rehab and when they were forced into a situation together. She ached to know.
She pushed her desire to ask away. There'd be time. Eventually.
"I feel a little lazy, watching you, instead of doing any sort of workouts myself," the woman admitted, wishing she could have been pushing damp locks back. She shook her head, setting those desires aside. "Do you have more cycles you have to burn through?"

"Lazy isn't always a bad thing," he added with a shrug, finally peeling off both gloves and tucking them under one arm as he reached for his water bottle again. He tipped his head back and drank it in, draining it with a soft suck of air at the end. He had learned the hard way to stay hydrated during his work outs and was already headed for the refill station behind her as he spoke over his shoulder. "No, I'm done," his smile was lazy and he seemed content with what he had managed thus far. "I have to be careful not to burn too many of the calories off, it's actually pretty hard to keep weight on for me. I've been struggling to get much more muscle than this, I think my body has just adjusted too much." When he came back, he was screwing the lid of his water bottle back on and holding a hand out to help her back up to her feet. "It's why I've started drinking that gross thing," there was humor in his voice as acid eyes fell down to meet her deep blue ones, "but we can head back to the apartment now. I can make you breakfast after I shower if you want."

Legs unfolded, stretching out across the mat when Jade leaned forward to stretch the aching muscles. Levi was busy refilling his bottle, which impressed her because she couldn't remember seeing him drink that much water before, and she enjoyed the small leisure of being free of his attention for a brief moment.
Having his attention on her was a welcomed thing, something the pale haired woman had sorely missed, but part of her felt like she needed to be on 'display' when she was around him. They had to see all the good in each other again before they stopped presenting and started being realer with each other.
Drawing them back towards her, Jade pushed up off the ground, arms extending to please her spine, which popped as everything resettled and loosened from the stiff way she'd been sitting.
"Proteins have their merits," she reluctantly agreed, even if she wrinkled her nose in disgust when she said it. "Wow, offering to take me home and make me breakfast? I'm feeling really wooed here Levi." Jade hoped that playing it off in an exaggerated manner would keep her heart from beating too quickly.
It didn't.
"Alright, with that kind of offer, how could I say no~"

"Oh, really?" A dark, mossy brow quirked as he began a slow, lazy walk back to the door. He was waiting for her to catch up but paused long enough to drop his towel in a bin at the edge of the wait room. Both gloves were shoved into the pockets of his gym shorts, making them bulge oddly on one side, but it freed his hands to let him pop the mouth of his water bottle open and closed a couple of times. "Is that really all it takes, a few chin-ups and some bacon?" It seemed he had caught onto her playfulness and let it infect him; she wasn't wrong, it did make it easier, even if it did nothing to brush away the underlying anxiousness that lingered beneath his skin. He didn't consider himself to be a fidgety person but his inability to read what lay between them was making him unnerved. It had been easy when they were just flirting, easier when they dated, but now this friendliness after becoming so close was hard. He turned to face her as he walked the last few steps to the door, then pushed it open with his back. It let him step sidelong and hold it open with his body for her, making her walk a little too close to get past him. The smirk on his lips said that he knew exactly that, too. "If you're a good girl, maybe I'll make you some more coffee."

"I said I was feeling wooed, not that I'd been wooed fully." A distinct difference, if she were to argue about it. Her strides, even long, had to be brisk to keep up with Levi's even longer ones. "I require waffles too, for a proper wooing experience. But." Jade paused to sigh dramatically. "I guess I would settle for like, pancakes, if I had to."
Her preferences for waffles over pancakes was minuscule and she wouldn't be put out either way if she had one instead of the other, but it was the principle of the preference.
"Also depends on how the bacon is cooked. I don't remember, are you a limp or crispy sort of guy?" She asked because it felt like a lifetime ago that they'd eaten such a meal together. She preferred a nice healthy crunch to her bacon strips, but she could deal with limp-ish ones.
Really, she was tickled at the idea of him cooking breakfast for her at all. So much had changed, but so much was new too and it was exciting.
Her mind blanked when he opened the door only enough to make her squeeze by. When she initially stepped forward to step past him she hadn't thought about it but now that she was there, practically brushing against him, she paused. Her chin tilted up, her own smirk playing on her lips when she lifted a hand to let her fingers walk up his chest.
"I'm always a good girl. Maybe if you're a good boy, you'll get to spend more time with me." Jade had been watching her hand, looking up only after she finished speaking before tapping him gently on the nose.
Squeezing by him, she walked backward towards his car. "C'mon."

"Tomato, tomahto," he shrugged at her wooing comment but mentally filed away her preference for waffles over pancakes as something to remember in the future. Considering he'd never been much for cooking his own (or anyone else's) breakfasts, he didn't have a waffle iron stored away for specials occasions. She was just gonna have to settle on pancakes and like it - but he would remember for next time. Then he realized that he was letting himself hope for a next time. "What kind of guy prefers limp?" his face retained its usual smarmy mask as she walked her fingers up his chest but he was struggling to do so if he was really honest. Their actual physical interactions were few and far between and each poke of her fingers into the flesh of his pecs was absorbed with a strained nostalgia. As she finally bopped his nose gently and walked past him , he released a breath he had trapped in his lungs and followed behind her obediently. "I'm not sure always is the right word here," he mumbled, just loud enough for her to hear but making it seem as if he didn't want her too. His hand was in his pocket though and the Tesla's lights flashed as he unlocked it with the fob. He caught up to her with little effort from his long legs and caught her by the chin, forcing her pretty eyes to look up at his own. "I can recall several instances where you were anything but good." With that tell-tale smirk on his lips, he leaned past her and pulled her door open for her to step inside, releasing her chin.

"Lame ones," Jade declared like it was a fact.
Having already walked away, she didn't notice the way he exhaled. There was a slight flush to her cheeks, old feelings dredging themselves up, that she was grateful that she could hide up for the moment.
"I heard that~" She called in a sing-song voice, white hair tossed over her shoulder when she glanced back ruefully. Having him suddenly in her space was unexpected, damn those lanky legs of his, and she blinked, flush now visible when he caught her by the chin.
Mind blank, she half expected him to lean down and tease her with an almost kiss. When he didn't, she tried not to let disappointment get the better of her. The way he took control made her heart flutter, Jade swallowing when she met his gaze. Despite the blink here or there, her gaze didn't waver. Instead, she leaned into it, a coy smile curling her lips. "Good is subjective, Levi. I don't recall you having any complaints then."
Being let go left her feeling unbalanced, the open car door a welcomed thing for her to use to steady herself and make it seem like she was simply slipping into the car.

The flush in her cheeks did not go amiss but he let her slide away from him and fold herself carefully into the car anyway. "Why would I ever complain?" The smirk was still on his lips as he shut the door behind her and walked behind the car. Once he was (fairly) sure he was out of sight of her window, he tilted his head back to face the sky and shut his eyes, cursing every god to hell and kingdom come as he tried to get a grip on himself. It was a rare break of his careful composure and he took it for the moment when she could not see him. It was damnably hard to play this game of cat and mouse with her when he knew they were not really playing at it. This was a test drive, an observation and he was nothing more than a test subject showing how well behaved he had become. A sneaker scuffed irritably on the pavement before he rounded the car and reached for his own door handle, making sure he put on a weak smile before he pulled it open and slid into the seat beside her. "Alright, then," his seatbelt clicked on before he slipped his car into reverse and peeled out of his parking space. A shift into drive and they were out of the parking lot and into the open road that would take them home. "Home to feed this very good girl."

Keeping up pretenses was getting more and more difficult as the morning wore on and Jade knew that if they kept toying with these boundaries they hadn't set. Despite that knowledge, the woman knew that she'd stay the whole day, if he let her, because she missed the things that were light between them. Getting to know him all over again would be a struggle but the fluttering in her belly told her that she wanted to try and navigate the choppy waters that had developed in the sea that was their relationship.
With Levi appearing to take his time rounding the car to enter, Jade used the moment alone to close her eyes and tip her head back against the headrest. Three deep inhales and exhales to calm her pulse and settle her nerves. Palms were wiped on her yoga pants and hair was tucked behind her ears.
Blue eyes opened when she heard the door open and she flashed an equally weak smile back at him. "Good, watching you work out left me starving." Jade nearly reached for his hand before she caught the instinctive reaction and tucked it beneath her thigh instead. "B-besides," she stuttered slightly, choosing to ramble like it would distract from what she almost did, "don't you need to eat again with that metabolism of yours?"
And maybe she was looking forward to watching him in the kitchen. Especially fresh from a shower. Where---
Yeah, she wasn't allowed to think about that yet. "I also want to see if your coffee taste has improved now that you've cut back on the sweets." Jade convinced herself that if she kept talking the drive would go by quick enough.

The shift of her hand was barely a flutter in the corner of his eye but the jolt in his chest told him that he had seen it completed a hundred times before; it left a deep sorrow in the wake as he realized that she still had those ingrained instincts for him. He drew a deep breath and purposefully avoided looking over at her, pressing his gas down just a little to zip through a yellow light and avoid getting cause - mostly so he didn't have to face her in the stillness of the pause. Luckily, she seemed to want to fill the silence as much as he did and he smirked quietly to himself as she rambled out a series of different things. "My coffee taste was never bad," he countered, playing up the sound of offense in his voice and punctuating the end with an indignant scoff. It made him laugh, though, and he relaxed into the seat comfortably as he drove down the familiar roads back to his apartment. "I do need to eat though, yes. I've have alarms now to remind to me eat and this... stupid calorie intake app. It's a lot more effort than just eating cupcakes all day, honestly." It was bad enough that he was having to eat healthy, diet specific foods - it was worse that he had to keep track of it all. It seemed like no time before they were pulling back up at his apartment and he dipped out of the car to open the door for the two of them. He didn't wait for her to exit the car before he was walking inside and leaving the front door gaped open. A quick one, two and he had stepped out of his shoes and left them haphazardly next to the entrance. He was slipping out of his hoodie and peeling the damp beater up and over his chest before he even thought about how inappropriate it probably was now to be stripping too much in front of her. He paused halfway to the stairs up to the second floor and looked back at her by the door. "You can just, uh, wait here. I won't take long."

Jade nearly scoffed at his rebuttal. "Oh, come on Levi," she drawled, complete with the over the top eyeroll, "I'm pretty sure there wasn't even any coffee in those drinks of yours." A total exaggeration and she knew it, but that was the point. "I think I'm getting a toothache just thinking about it."
Sweets have never been her thing the way they'd been his and she enjoyed them well enough. Still, poking fun at his sweet tooth made it easier to distract from other thoughts.
Transitioning from car to townhome was quick, Jade following as she watched him bound up the stairs. Shamelessly she watched as he began to strip, looking amused from the bottom of the stairs. An arm crossed over her chest, her hand reaching to cover her mouth to stifle the laughter that nearly bubbled out.
"Yeah, yeah, don't worry too much about me," she told him, waving him off waggling fingers.
Shoes were carefully toed off and set neatly by the door, which she'd made sure to close, before she padded down the hall to find some place for her to sit. As much fun as standing there waiting for him to shower would be, she'd rather sit somewhere and scroll through her social media feeds. He was going to be working soon, it wouldn't hurt to check on hers.

After he disappeared into the hallway upstairs it only took a few minutes for the sound of the shower to burst to life. It was loud enough that he was probably just showering with the door wide open; he always did hate the way it fogged up the mirror and made the tiles too slick. Nothing much had changed about Levi's apartment in the time she had left except that the things that had once tempted him were missing. His wine rack was gone, as was the cabinet he kept full of liquor and his favorite mixers. Oddly, that empty space across from the neat, blue sectional had been traded out for a cat tree of all things. And there, lounging in a stray ray of sunlight that filtered through the cracked curtains was a grey cat with a green collar hung comfortably around its neck. As Jade entered the room, it opened a singular green eye. The other was scarred closed but it didn't seem to deter the air of authority the creature had. It judged her for a moment before rolling onto its back for a deep, long stretch; whoever this stranger was didn't seem to make the cat feel very threatened. Upstairs, the shower cut and the sound of rings sliding over the shower bar could be heard even from the other side of the house. It was followed by the sound of feet plodding from the bathroom and down the hall to what could only be his room; he wasn't rushing, at all. Not in the slightest.

Taking in the changes that had occured, minor things like the absence of piece of furniture and the replacement of another, Jade had been prepared to settle on the left side of the couch.
But, then she saw the cat tree and she paused, head cocking with intreguie. Slowly she shuffled forward and it was then that she became aware of the cat, stretched out beneath what she assumed was a warm patch of sun. Once more she froze, watching as the feline observed her before rolling over and baring it's belly.
A soft exhale escaped her, as Jade hadn't realized that she'd been holding her breath and knowing that the cat hadn't deemed her as undesirable (yet), she dropped to her knees slowly and shuffled forward.
She had no pets of her own, but she kept a container of catnip in her cupboard back at her apartment for the occasional mau drop in. A little black kitten had the time of his life once and she'd been amused enough to hope it'd happen again.
This cat however, didn't appear to be alien and she extended a hand, letting out a soft clicking noise trying to get it's attention.
"Hey there handsome," she cooed, slowly crawling closer before she stopped, kept a hand out and hoped the cat would deem her worthy.
Jade hadn't even noticed that the sound of showering had stopped.

The single green eye watched the woman closely as she got onto her knees and, little by little, inched her way towards the feline. There was very little reaction at first but soon its nose began to twitch and the slick grey head inclined forward to try and get a good sniff of her. Deciding that it liked her enough, apparently, it rolled back onto its belly and leaned forward to rub the side of his face against her outstretched hand. As it flopped over, the medallion attached to its collar flopped with a gentle tinkle, displaying an engraved gold tag that read 'Sylvester'. After a moment, Sylvester pushed himself up onto his paws so that he could brush the opposite side of his face along her hand, then leaned his body into her arm as he stalked forward, eventually coming to rest against her outer thigh with a rumble in his throat and his single eye half shut. Whether it was the laziness of the sunny morning or his nature, he seemed pleased enough to see her and beg for attention. Upstairs, Levi was noisier than he had been, changing into a pair of ripped jeans and a band tshirt that looked well loved over the years. His hair was wet and tussled as he finally bounded back down the stairs, pausing at the bottom once he didn't see her immediately. "Where are you, Argent?"

Jade expected to be snubbed. Cats were fickle creatures whose love and affection came and went with every passing breath. She had even gone so far as to close her eyes, because she thought that perhaps her luck would be better if she wasn't directly looking at the cat she so desperately wanted to like her.
Fur was soft against her skin, one blue eye opening to glance over at the cat who rubbing his face against her outstretched limb. Once he pressed against her thigh, she was gently scratching against his spine, making happy little cooing noises.
"Was the sun nice and warm?" Jade mumbled, moving from kneeling to sitting crosslegged on the floor as she lavished Levi's pet with attention. Patting the thigh she tried to invite Sylvester to come crawl into her lap, which was was true cat goals.
"Do you like it when I getcha right behind the ears handsome?" Fingers shifted to scratch beneath the chin before Levi's voice drew her attention away.
She never stopped giving Sylvester scritches.
"In the living room!" She called back, peering over her shoulder with white strands falling loose.
