Karliah waited with mild impatience as the old man brought them to the back of the lab. By them, apparently another potential trainer had come into the lab and had quickly introduced himself as 'Harvey' She'd heard the name and it's like before. Lotta good harvey's out there, but Karliah was more inclined to keep to herself and continued to keep her attention on the professor. Not long after he'd lead the two of them to the back of the lab he released three small Pokemon into the world, introducing them all. Karliah rose both her hands up to her hips leaning in some with a narrowed gaze. This was it? She'd seen sturdier Magikarp then this bunch. Well, the whole deal was to train them wasn't it? So in the long run she'd just choose the most potential of the three. "Alright listen up scallywags, I be lookin' for someone strong and reliable to be my matey." Karliah voiced. The three gazed over to Kalriah, but of the three one looked away, quickly followed by the fire-type. The only one to keep it's gaze strong on Karliah was the spirit-like Pokemon.

"Aye, you're up to the challenge then?" Karliah inquired, crossing her arms. The ghost-type flew up and bobbed it's head. It's silver eyes seemed to draw in Karliah and for a moment she got lost in them. A smile crossed the small blonde's lips as she nodded. "Aye, You'll do." She replied. "Welcome to the team, Matey." Floating over to Karliah's side, the small blonde gazed back up towards the professor. "I'll be takin' this one than. Anything else Prof?" She inquired, eager now to get moving.

While the two mulled over which pokemon they wished to take as a starter, Hickory was quick at work gathering the needed items for the two new trainers. They would each get a set of pokeballs and potions as well as their own Pokedex. When it seemed Karliah had chosen her pokemon, Hickory set to work registering the information into her Pokedex before placing them on a tray along with the phom's Pokeball and walked over to the tiny little pirate girl.

"Here you go young lady. Your Pokedex is registered and this is your phom's Pokeball. If you wish to give it a name then please do so. The rest of these are a set of pokeballs to help you out and a set of potions." he said as he offered the items on the tray to Karliah to take and store on her person.

He then turned to look at Harvey. Wondering what pokemon he would choose. If the male wanted a phom. He had many of the three types. He kept a steady supply of each of the three for such occasions.

► Harvey eyed the little girl ( pirate?) as she chose a water pokemon. The pokemon gave him the creeps to be honest, the teen wasn't sure what it was about ghosts that unnerved him but it had always been something he reacted badly to.
That left two pokemon for him to chose from. The fire bat and the grass lizard.
He was going to be traveling light and staying in motels, so he figured a fire type might prove problematic to that ( his dad's old monferno had set many a thing on fire while Harvey was growing up in Eterna)
But he didn't want to think about that. Or about how he would have gotten a monferno if he had stayed with his father. He wanted a new start.
"I'll take the lizeep" he said extending his arm to the grass lizard and watching with a small smile on his face as it climbed up his arm.

Once the young uniquely dressed lady took the items on the tray, Hickory turned and went to get the other new trainer's items set up. He kept a close eye on which one the young male chose. Seeing how he reacted to the phom's presence told the professor that he probably wouldn't choose the water ghost starter. Some people couldn't handle ghost pokemon. It was something he honestly didn't understand but he respected it none the less.

Once all the items were gathered and placed on a tray, Professor hickory turned to look at the young blond male as he seemed to have decided on his starter. Nodding he walked over with the tray of items and held it out to the teenager. "This here is Lizeeps Pokeball. The rest of the pokeballs are to help you start off on your journey. I registered your Pokedex and there are some potions as well to help you get started. If you wish to give your new pokemon a name then please feel gree to do so." he said as he looked at the lizeep that now sat perched on the teenage male's shoulder. A soft smile coming to the professor. He was happy to see the pokemon he raised go to new trainers. He had them specifically to give to new and adventurous trainers. He wished that each of the starts he gave out, were given the love and attention they rightfully deserved.

Slate had arrived in the Grotto Region a couple of days previously, having traveled there by ship. He'd been rather grouchy on the journey, the swaying of the boat in the waves leaving the former soldier with seasickness. No matter how much he traveled or tried to train for that motion, he could never stop the way it effected him. Without his team of trusty Rock types, he'd been forced to travel by vehicle from the port city he arrived in to the small village of Holesweet Town.

After that, he'd been informed that Professor Hickory, the man in charge of trainers beginning their journeys in the Grotto Region, had his lab nearly a days hike out of town. He'd also been told that the terrain was pretty rough as well, although this didn't bother him. He'd had to deal with terrain like that all the time when he was still serving as part of the Kantonian military.

He'd picked up a hunting knife in town, as well as some basic survival kit which he stored in a large, oversize backpack. Heading up towards the lab, he observed some of the local fauna from a distance, taking notes on the Pokemon he had never seen before. It was enough to get him pumped to explore this large reason and this resulted in him picking up the pace.

About ten hours after he left Holesweet, he could see a plume of smoke from a chimney, as the lab came into view. He gave a small grin at his good time, trekking the last few hundred meters to the front door of the lab. Rapping his knuckles on the door politely, he pushed it open, heading inside. He made his way into the lab, finding the Professor in a room with two kids. Heh. Kids, he thought. He was starting off his journey in this region just the same as them, so maybe they didn't deserve that title.

Leaning against the wall, he watched quietly as the three interacted. It would be his turn to talk to Hickory and get his Pokemon soon enough. No need to rush the man. He had to admit though, his interest was piqued by the two starters he had seen, a little lizard type Grass Pokemon and a Water type which appeared to be, maybe, a Ghost sub type. He'd never seen either before, but he had a pretty keen eye. As he slipped his arms up, crossing them behind his head, the two Beretta pistols he wore in underarm holsters were visible under his jacket, as were two military medals pinned to the inside of the leather garment.

Professor Hickory watched with silent curiosity as a third, much older man entered his lab. He posted himself in the back of the room where he crossed his arms behind his head exposing the fact he was sporting a pair of pistols. Hickory kept an eye on the man concerned he was here to cause trouble. Though so long as he kept those guns holstered there wouldn't be any. He hadn't immediately noticed the medals but his concerned were eased when he did. A solder. It wasn't uncommon for soldiers to remain armed long after ending their service in whatever army they served in. He himself was not much different. Though his days in the military had long ended and his penchant for carrying had come to an end. As the two younger newly officiated trainers collected their starters and poke'balls he ushered them out past the elder male, though he took to standing just in front of him. It wasn't until the two had left and the door closed he spoke up. "I hope you're not here to cause me any grief young man. If a starter is what you're after then perhaps keeping those out of the eyes of impressionable young children would be appreciated." He gazed sidelong as the man before moving back towards his desk. Despite his eased concerned, he'd learned from a long life not to let his guard down but to also never show an once of fear. It wasn't uncommon for thieves and poachers to come through those doors seeking an "easy win" only to be turned away.

►Smiling, Harvey inspected the small lizard pokemon.
"Hello there" he said reaching out a hand, letting the pokemon inspect it. "I've never seen one like this, I guess they're specific to this region"
As the professor confirmed that yes, they were, the lizeep seemed to decide Harvey was okay after all and slowly nudged his hand, asking for pets.
"Think you can help me win some league money for college?" he asked the dragon type smiling slightly. The little pokemon tilted her head to the side not responding, but Harvey thought she looked rather content.
The professor also gave him pokeballs and a pokedex. Harvey's eyes lit up when he saw the machine. He could learn so much with it. He couldn't quite hide the surprise in his face at being given all of it. People hadn't exactly to him, specially adults, now he was getting stuff for free?
"Uh..thanks" he said somewhat awkwardly taking the pokedex and pokeballs. Slipping his bag to the front, he stashed the pokeballs in the side pocket, and the pokedex in the front.
Seeing someone else, coming to see the professor the young adult decided it was time to take his leave.
"I should get going. Thank you for the stuff" he said swinging the bag back around and pulling at the straps to make sure it was secure. The Lizeep clung tight to him as he walked out, not wanting to fall out. It hurt a bit, but Harvey figured he could get used to it.

Holly walked into the lab with her pink duffel bag slung over her shoulder. Toto, well behaved as always trotted at her heels. She hadn't been sure about going to the lab for a new pokemon when she already had her own, but her brothers and mother had kept saying she just had to so in the end she had caved.
Who knew, maybe she'd find a pokemon that could help her with her first contest.
"Hello?" the girl queried looking around for sources of life, "Is anyone here?"

Hickory stepped from around the corner coming from his lab headed to a small storage room when he noticed the young lace coming in. "Oh, yes, Hello. Here for a starter pokemon, I presume?" He asked face buried in some paperwork. Black marker and heavy lines of an ink pin had bled through the pages revealing mathematical calculations and a circle with crisscrossed lines and archaic symbols drawn in and around it. "One moment" The elderly man said setting the papers aside to collect some empty glass vials and a small box whos hidden contents raddled inside. Setting the collection of objects aside on his side he stepped to one side, revealing three Poke'balls set on a metal tray atop his desk. "Here we offer the Grotto starters of Lizeep, Flambat, and Phom. Glass, Fire, and Water-types respectively."

Holly turned on her heel smiling brightly at the proffesor who stood before her. She tried to sneak a peek a this research out of morbid curiosity but found she couldn't really make heads or tails of it.
"yes that's right" she said when she was asked if she needed a starter "Although I guess Toto here's my starter." at this the girl pet the herdiers head with a smile "Still yknow, the more the merrier."
She was in awe with the pokemon that came out, the girl had never really seen anything like it. However, having some pokemon in storage, the girl knew already just what she wanted.
"This one" she said pointing to the water type "That's the one I want."

Hickory gave a gruff smile as he pulled from the tray the Pokeball containing the Phom and released it. The water/ghost type floated about the room a moment before settling into one space high above the pair. "Phoooooommm!" It wailed loudly as if yawning. "Phom can be rather mischievous at times but is a fine choice for any beginning trainer I assure you. Now as a new trainer you'll be needing these." Pulling open a draw on his desk Hisckoy retrieved a small clear box containing a small collection of potions, poke'balls and a Pokedex. Handing the box over then recalled the Phom and handed that over as well. "I'm trusting you to take good care of this starter Pokemon and to raise it well.

Holly listened as the professor explained that this particular pokemon had a penchant for mischief.
"I grew up with three brothers sir, I believe I can handle it" she said good naturedly reaching out a hand to the little ghost pokemon. It seemed to shrink into itself a little, hanging back for a bit before expecting the offered hand.
"Yeah" Holly said with a smile "I think we'll get along just fine."
Taking the offered items and putting them in her travel bag "Oh thank you so much" she said immediately aiming the pokedex at her Phom "Water ghost huh...like the Flying Dutchman."
The Phom seeming to finally decide her trainer was Alright seemed to smile at this and hovered closer to Holly.
With pokemon and items in hand Holly decided to get going, returning her pokemon she bid the professor good bye and exited the lab.

Adrian blushed as he watched what Sonoko and Yukie were doing. Sipping his cocoa silently as he took notice of just how close the two were. He felt a little saddened he had no one like that, but also happy that Yukie had someone who took such good care of her. Adrian had had a crush before he came out of the closet...but...that went sour fast. Once he came out. His male friend and classmates all turned against him. Including the one, he had a crush on. It was disheartening for the young teen. He felt like he would never find someone he could have that relationship with. Especially after he started fearing other men. When Yukie's hair was finished being messed with by Sonoko, and it showed that the woman had braided Yukie's hair. It made him smile slightly since Yukie did look nice with braided hair. Though when Sonoko mentioned getting the cart up and moving. Adrian blinked a little confused before he felt the sudden lurch of the cart rising up, He had to stead himself a bit to make sure he didn't spill any of his drink on himself or anything that might stain. He then relaxed once more when the cart started to move slightly after Sonoko went to attach one of her pokemon to the front of it.

Hearing the question that Yukie had asked. He thought about it as he sipped his cocoa. "I..I thought about it for a long time. Even longer then you may think I did..i..i always thought..that the water and ghost type...never got any interests. Due to never seeing that many trainers with the little thing. I thought... I would make that one my partner. Not many people are comfortable with ghost types. But... I am so use to them thanks to Strawberry and a few others I helped raise. So...I thought I would like to have one as my partner..." he said blushing slightly. It was true really. He thought about the other two starters as well when contemplating his official partner pokemon. But...he felt like the water and ghost type didn't get much attention. He felt like it was lonely like him really. So....he wanted to make it his partner since he thought ghost pokemon were always looked over in favor for a different type.

It wasn't long before the cart stopped in what he assumed was the front of the pokemon lab. He had finished his cocoa and after a few coaxing words from Yukie and Sonoko about them staying outside to ensure he didn't tries to run away again, Adrian walked through the front door of the pokemon lab and stood there rather nervously. He had probably been in the waiting lobby more than any other trainer in the past year. Though..whenever he saw the professor and the other male started to talk to him, each time he would run away out of fear and his father would apologize to the professor about why he had run off.

Professor Hickory probably knew about his condition with the same sex more than anyone after a year of scattered attempts to get his pokemon. And his father had even offered to ask the professor to send the pokemon and items to their house to help ease the young teens' fear. But..Adrian didn't want that. He wanted to be able to get his pokemon and start his journey with as minimal help as possible. He wanted to be able to talk to the professor and get his pokemon face to face.

He stood there clenching the part of his shirt over his chest as he took in deep breaths and tried to calm his fear of talking to another man as much as possible. If he tried to run, he knew that Yukie and Sonoko would stop him. He...he had to do this...he needed to do this.
