He turned his head to look at Cordelia as Fritz began unloading things onto the table, the corners of his lips curving up into a smile. His hands stopped moving, and he straightened, a look of amusement in his eyes as he said, "Do you know, I think that a picnic would be a lovely idea. It's a shame Wendell isn't here to enjoy it, but I think I much rather prefer just the two of us right now."

He put the boxes back into the bags and picked them up again. Cordelia was standing there beside him, and she wasn't perfect, but neither was he, and that was why it worked. That was why they needed each other, and why they were meant to be together, regardless of what had happened in the past. There was no one in his world that was more perfect for him than Cordelia Carden.

And he had an inkling of where that put him, but the idea frightened him in a way he couldn't quite reason. The intent, the love, the desire to have their lives permanently entwined; those were all there, bursting at the seams with how strong those emotions were.

But the step needed to get there.

Fritz smiled at her. "I think the sentiment is mutual," he said affectionately, and then gestured to the living room.

"Shall we?"

Were he anyone else, were they any other couple in a relationship, Cordelia would have reached back to take Fritz by the hand to lead him out to the living room. Her fingers twitched as though she might, her heart ached with the will in which she wanted to. Out of respect for his boundaries and the way they had built their relationship around the mutual trust of one another she didn't, instead flashing a warm smile before snagging two sets of silverware from the drawer.

With the utensils in hand she lead the way to the living room, taking a second to nudge the coffee table back so there would be room for the two of them to sit on the floor between it and the sofa. They could lean back against the couch comfortably enough and still reach the table; make a properly romantic evening of it all.

"I know I've already said it, but...The food really does smell fantastic. Thank you for having the brilliant sense to pick it up. Has your week been well?" Grasping around for bits of conversation to make their lives seem more average and less magically inclined was something that Cordelia liked to think she excelled at -- most days, at least. With a lull between work and having just missed the sign-ups for the Spring semester of classes, her own life had taken a turn towards being more focused on the powered side of things than not. One online course was enough to keep her in good standings with her advisor, but not enough to provide a better distraction from everything.

"Other than practicing pyromancy, what have you been up to?"

He wanted to be able to break past this barrier. To learn how to handle even the most basic of things, the smallest of touches, without feeling the instinctive panic rising in his throat. Cordelia's endless patience was needed and desperately appreciated, but it didn't meant that he still didn't want to continue being this way.

Fritz took a seat on the floor, folding himself in beside Cordelia, reaching to unload the bag in the process.

"It's been...well, Rhys and Hitch wanted me to come over and help them with a few householdy things." Fritz waved a hand, setting a container of mashed potatoes down in front of Cordelia. He flashed a wry smile at the mention of pyromancy. "I've almost decided I won't strangle my brother-in-law when he comes over now."

He uncapped a box that had what appeared to be green beans in it and took a sniff. "What about your work? How is that going?"

"Not strangling your brother-in-law is probably for the best. Wouldn't want Rhys upset, would we?" Cordelia laughed, leaning back on her hands as she settled in to simply observe Fritz for a moment. Little moments like this made it easy to forget that there was anything else going on in the outside world; that she was anything other than an average young woman with a normal boyfriend and a simple life.

"Work? Hm, well... There was a show this past weekend and I picked up enough in tips between Friday and Saturday that I was able to convince one of the girls who missed out to take my brunch shift this coming Sunday." Brunch only happened once a month, twice if something special was going on in town, but Cordelia often dedicated the wee hours of Saturday night into Sunday morning to patrolling and factored in a nap somewhere before taking a trip to Corvus to recharge her batteries. She preferred not working them, even if the tips were typically worth the hassle of rescheduling a trip or pushing it back later.

"There's another show on Thursday that they asked me to pick up a shift for, though, if you'd like to meet me after to walk me home?"
