He had looked away long enough to take in the diner's front. It was unfamiliar to him, further out than he probably would have driven but he had a suspicion that Jules didn't want any of their 'co-workers' to know that she was spending out-of-work time with him.
Some people liked keeping their personal lives and their professional ones separated and private.
Joey was indifferent, if he clicked with someone, he wanted to get to know them and he thought that he clicked with Ms. Payne quite nicely despite all of her protests and evading when he asked to spend time with her.
"It's a nice thought Jewel," he answered truthfully, pressing the button to free his seat belt. His hand paused on the strip still covering his chest so that he could look over at her with a peculiar expression. "But should we really be trying to play God? Isn't that the greatest folly of men, thinking that they are more than when they are less?"
Slowly he eased the seat belt back until it lay straight. "I suppose I wouldn't turn down the chance, to do more good, though."

She smiled sweetly at that, reaching out to take his hand and give it a squeeze before responding, matter-of-factly:
"Then I guess it's a good thing that I'm a woman."
In the blink of an eye, the nurse was gone and in her place sat a woman in a new uniform, who seemed to take up even more room in the small vehicle with her cape and cap fitted perfectly atop her light, blonde hair.
General Angelite smiled at the young man, gripping tight to the hand she still had hold of while the other sank into the depths of his chest. She could remember vividly her own corruption, years before, so she had the respect enough for the young man to murmur, "Take a deep breath, this might sting" before squeezing her fist around his starseed.
At least... that's what she'd intended to do.
With a snarl, her hand jerked back as if it'd been stung.
Something... Something wasn't right.
His starseed wasn't like the others she'd taken from chests. It didn't feel the same, couldn't take the Chaos she was trying to feed it.
Did that... could that mean...?
Narrowing her blue eyes, she paused for a minute before both figures disappeared from the car, teleported into the depths of the Negaverse where Angelite's answer would lay.

He laughed.
While her response was not one he was expecting, he was pleasantly surprised by it. It sounded like all of those quotes people seemed particularly fond of these days. All men must die, but they weren't men or the ever famous, dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth or the like.
Still, Joey was far from prepared when Jules changed before him. Gone were her hospital scrubs and in their place a darkly colored uniform and..cape. She even wore a hat a top beautifully blonde hair.
"J-jewel? How did you--" He was cut off by the hand suddenly inside of his chest. It hurt, her warning not coming soon enough and he'd already stopped breathing from shock, and he reached to grip her wrist, features contorting with pain.
"What are--" He'd started, but they had disappeared from the car before he finished his sentence.

He was a senshi.
Of all the people she was trying to convert - her first Lieutenant, her first protégé - he happened to be harboring the starseed of one of her enemies. Did he know what he was? Was he a senshi this entire time?
He hadn't seemed to know what she was talking about, not when the General Sovereign reached in to do what Angelite failed to do. He didn't resist any more than any normal human might --- but did he know?
By the time he'd been turned, pumped full of Chaos and corruption, she was teleporting them back to the inside of her Beetle. Double ridiculous, now, with a corrupt senshi and a General sitting next to one another but Angelite's gaze wasn't on the fact she was still in the driver's seat of her old faithful but on the newest member of the Negaverse.
Hands reached out to touch his cheeks, the face a stranger to her now, but she hesitated and drew back.
"Joey?"
There was uncertainty in her voice this time. What if he had been a senshi before? Would he remember anything? Had she lost the sweet boy entirely? Had this all been some terrible mistake?
"Joey, are you alright?"

A lot of things were happening and why the end of it Joey felt utterly and completely drained.
He had already been weary from his night shift but this type of toll was something that ached in his very core, a throbbing he couldn't ignore and by the time everything was said and done (with the man being to out of it to really understand any of it) he could barely keep his head up.
Jewel-- or whomever she was, she'd changed, and she looked like Jules but didn't --had brought them back to her car and he slumped against the seat.
It was hard to register that he had changed too.
"Jewel," he croaked, coughing a little with eyes closed. "What happened?"

Jewel.
He'd kept his memories. He was still Joey.
The thought was more elating than it should have been, hands reaching out to cup his cheeks as the nurse within her habitually turned his head, assessing him, his eyes, his color and his forehead to ensure everything was within normal range.
"It's okay, hero. I'm here."
She'd been instructed to find a cat -- they would help figure out her new recruit's actual name, as well as get him a pen to... well, do whatever it was that he needed to do to power up. Senshi were in a league of their own and she frustratingly knew little to help transition him into his new role. She had to find a Mau... and fast.
"Hang in there, okay? Close your eyes, take a little nap and I'm going to find us someone who can help us out."
Keys had never left the ignition and now Jules - Angelite - needed them more than ever. She knew it was dangerous to be driving around as a powered individual but she wasn't about to leave her companion undefended.
Pulling out her communication device, she proceeded to make a phone call to the last person she'd want to talk to.
Rather, the last cat she'd want to talk to.
Peeling out of the parking lot, the little Beetle burned rubber as she made her way down the road, the call ringing to one nefarious, twenty-something pound Maine Coon.
