At some point Hydra had shifted, butt on the sand and knees drawn up to her chest so her arms could wrap around them. Her skirt wasn't long enough to make her look modest when she sat like this but she didn't care, she needed somewhere to hide her face as she sobbed.
Her cheeks were red and splotchy, nose running regardless of how many times she tried to wipe it, and her eyes were puffy, tears still streaming down her cheeks. They were slowing at least and her breathing stopped sounding like she was hyperventilating and that it was evening out.
"You say that," she mumbled, not looking up at him because she was embarrassed. Hydra didn't know what had finally tipped her over the edge but something had and she felt exposed. "But you can't promise that."
Hydra didn't know if she thought she could trust any promises anyway.
The only person who hadn't hurt her, left her, or broken her trust was Akio.
As much as she loved Seal, as much as she knew that if he'd asked, she'd run away with him...Hydra wanted nothing more than to go home and curl up with her boyfriend. If safe spaces were a thing, then his arms were undoubtedly a safe space for her.
"Everybody leaves, even when they love me." She thought of Bazzi, who'd disappeared and left her behind only for her to find a letter months and months after. She thought of her mother, who died weeks after she was born. It hurt.
She didn't want to think about it anymore.
"So why would you stay?"

"How could you say that?"
Out of habit - out of the need to be doing something, he pulled off his cloak and shifted, pulling it over her shoulders to help cover up the senshi, whose outfit was far too short for polite company when sitting as she was. The cloak was warm and provided him comfort - perhaps it would give her some, even just a little, to help.
"You're the one pushing me away -- or trying to." His words were soft in volume but firm in tone. He hadn't left her, no, she had been the one insisting they couldn't see one another again, the one telling him that he was in danger and insisting he couldn't make these decisions for himself. "I don't understand. Have I behaved like everyone else, then, for you to make that assumption of me? For you to want to leave me before I have this supposed chance of leaving you first?"
He grew quiet, moving to sit back on his hands in his own very ungentlemanly pose in the sand as he moved to grow more comfortable. "People leave, my Lady. As time moves along, so do people. That doesn't mean that every one will leave you. It's true, many will, but you can't say for certain that they all will disappear."

"Because that's what happens!" Hydra blurted out even as Seal's Eye tried to care for her. His cloak was heavy on her shoulders and her fingers reached for the ends to wrap it tightly around her. She didn't want to take comfort in it's warmth or the way the smell of him -- salt water and sand -- cloaked her.
Her nose buried into the fur that lined the collar.
Letting him talk, Hydra distracted herself by staring at the ocean waters lapping at the shore. She couldn't look at him. "It's not safe," the girl said, chin pressing against her shoulder.
What he was saying wasn't helping. It only made her ache harder. Time moved on, blah blah blah, people left, blah blah, have more faith blah blah.
He didn't get it. He didn't understand how she felt and she no longer had energy to try and make him.
"How reassuring." She said in a bland, sarcastic voice. "You don't get it. It's not safe. We can't have a relationship. It won't work."

The bite of her voice had him reeling, Seal's Eye grateful that he was already parted from her, lest he'd been forced to move away from such animosity himself. Fingers, still protected by his half-gloves, curled up in the sand and squeezed as he resisted the urge to... to...
Well, he didn't know what to say to her.
She went from pitiful and distant to cold and downright nasty in an instant and it broke his heart to watch the transformation happen before his eyes. Was this a girl in emotional turmoil or was the Chaos that gripped her starseed part of the reason she was being so cruel? Or was this.. was this her?
The sadness on his face drew into a straight line of sorts, blue eyes watching her intently.
"If it makes you feel better to snap at me, then by all means, please continue."

It wasn't hard to see that she was doing damage she'd later regret from the way he looked when she glanced over, from beneath the safety of the fur on his cloak. The nasty, ugly part of her that seemed to rear it's head more and more wanted him to hurt, because she felt like all that'd been happening to her was hurt and more hurt and hurt again.
But the other part, the part that knew Seal's Eye was her best friend, her dream prince that she wanted nothing more than to protect knew she was being cruel and she drew into herself further.
"See," she said in her soft, tiny voice, "I told you being with me was a bad idea." Hydra hated herself in that moment.
Seal's Eye was trying his best and she was lashing out. "I'm no good for anybody." She uncurled herself, peeling off his cloak and offering it back to him. "Maybe you should just take me back."

She was pitiful and it broke his heart to watch her as she moved, shrinking into herself instead of being the bright, happy and hopeful woman he'd gotten to know over the years. Hydra was not only thinking ill of them being in the same place at the same time but worse, she was blaming herself - being so harsh about her own self and Seal's Eye reacted without giving himself time to think.
Taking back the cloak, he leaned over and draped it around the young woman's shoulders a second time but this time, he leaned in to collect her, dragging her up against him in a solid, firm hug.
"You're good for me. Please don't ever forget how much I care about you, my Lady."
The words were soft, murmured against her cheek as he slowly, slowly relaxed to allow her to break away if she truly chose to get away from him. He would have no choice but to obey her request to allow her leave, if she wanted to part ways but he prayed, he prayed she'd reconsider.
"Isn't having one person on your side better than no one at all?"

He didn't accept his cloak back and Hydra opened her mouth to protest when he wrapped it around her shoulders. Instead of leaving her be he was tugging her forward, collecting her close and hugging her. Tears were hot on her cheeks, spilling over again when she clung to him. Trying to take comfort in his embrace, she didn't know what to do but let him hold her.
"I don't understand why you care about me," she hiccuped, scrubbing at her eyes and avoiding looking at him. She was embarrassed. She was an eternal, she shouldn't have been sobbing in the arms of a boy.
Hydra should have been above that.
Despite herself, she snuggled into him. It didn't matter what she was feeling, he was here and he was insisting on staying with her. It made her think of her boyfriend, who decided to weather all storms when it came to being with her.
"I don't know. It's not better if they keep leaving me."

One hand gently stroked the back of her head, fingers playing along the lines of her long braid while the other continued to hold her close as she hiccuped and tried to collect herself. He knew she was going through a lot - clearly she'd been dealing with a lot on her plate both before disappearing from his life and now that he'd forced his way back into it.
"You don't have to understand it to accept it, Lady Hydra," he murmured softly in return. "I don't understand why I was chosen for this role but I accept it and the future it holds for me. Please accept my friendship and the knowledge that I do care --- I will always care for you, my Lady."
He remained there for a few more minutes, quietly rocking the young woman in his arms as he did his best to soothe away her distress. Seal's Eye knew the only one who could convince Hydra would be Hydra herself --- but he was determined to at least try.

Hydra wanted to hate him.
He was too kind, too loving, too much for her. Here he was cradling her against him and refusing to give up on her over and over again. Sealie loved her, but not the way she wanted and she didn't know if she had it in her to put her heart at risk with the danger that came with being her friend.
Instead, she curled up into him, fingers digging into his tunic while she tried to make herself smaller than she already was.
"Please don't leave me," she hiccuped, pressing her face against his chest. "I'm so tired of being left alone."

If she listened hard enough, she'd be able to hear the soft, steady beating of his heart as he held on to her tightly. Her head remained pressed against his chest and it was instinctive for the young man to dip down and kiss the top of his distressed friend's head.
"I won't leave you, my Lady," he reassured her quietly. Fingers still brushed over her braid, mindful not to find themselves snagged in the twists, as the rocking resumed. "I will always be around to watch over you, both here and in your dreams."
Which, honestly, he hoped was a sign that she would allow him back into her world. It was intimate, sharing dreams with another, but for all of their history together and the adventures they'd shared while she slept, he missed them very dearly.
"You'll always be my favorite dreamer."

Once again Hydra sniffled.
Seal's Eyes words were a comfort, trying to wrap around her in the same manner he did and the kiss to her hair made her close her eyes. They were safe, here in his sanctum, for now she could pretend like being her friend wasn't a liability and that they could still have a relationship, the other reason for her aching heart aside.
"Okay," she mumbled, barely coherent from how she kept shifting.
Rubbing at her eyes, she sat up enough to press her lips against his cheek. Settling back against his chest she said, "Can we stay here a little longer?"
She wasn't ready to go.

She made another sad little noise as she curled up within his lap, his weight settling into the sand beneath them. He was almost afraid that she would try to get up, try to pry herself away from his arms and insist that she needed to go home, needed to get away from this place - from him.
But instead, a soft, sweet kiss met the coolness of his cheek, coloring the tan skin almost immediately. Her head found its way beneath his chin as she pressed into his chest. The request was quiet, almost needy and his grip around her instinctively tightened as he began rocking once more.
"We can stay here as long as you'd like, my Lady."
Another kiss to the top of her head and then he rested his chin on soft, perfect hair and Seal's Eye closed his eyes, settling in to savor the moment for as long as he could.
Who knew if he'd ever get this chance again?
