I've been looking at the sky to show me where I went wrong.
C - R A N K O A T H K E E P E R - S O L D I E R H A K E M O T O

Been looking at the sky like someone was looking down. But it keeps raining on me.

[Location:] In the office.

Something in Taiki's words regarding Fiorzia was a bit off-putting, though I couldn't quite place it. Distrust I could understand, but there was another emotion in his dry tone. He moved on from it, however, which meant I needed to as well. Whatever he felt toward the sprites presence he couldn't do anything about anyway. Or at the very least, I wouldn't allow him to. He continued, stating that he wasn't sure how long he planned to stay, and he wasn't particularly fond of the idea of giving allegiance to someone he didn't know. Which was fair, but I think he misinterpreted how our hub was run. I was a first among equals, and had next to no power over the people that chose to live there. It was just safer in groups. But I had earned the respect of the citizens regardless of their personal feelings toward me. Likewise, each of the town's 'professions' had someone who gave instructions, but everything we had built up until that point was based on their faith in the leaders to do their jobs. I was certain if they felt someone couldn't handle it, there would be a change of hands in an instant.

Just like regarding this newcomer. I expected people to help out but had no way of forcing them, really. But if he tried staying for an extended time without doing any work, I felt that the other citizens would probably drive him out for mooching resources. "Of course," I replied. "Take your time making a decision. I'm not going to force you to stay against your will."

Taiki continued, mentioning the lack of jobs on the town's mission board, which resulted in a frown and a raised brow from me. Did... people not understand how the board worked? Did he expect everything the townsfolk needed help with to be a life-or-death journey to defeat some great foe, or to delve into the pits of the earth in search of some buried treasure? "Appealing or not," I said, swallowing back my annoyance, "they're requests from the people who live here that are looking for a hand in completing tasks, and still need to be done. In some cases, sure, we've got threats and weird things happening but in all honesty you must be used to a much more exciting life than a post-apocalyptic one if you think monster attacks and grand battles are the majority of what you'll find on that board." I raised my hands to the sides though, shrugging. "Anything else is typically given out directly by me, or the head of my guard to the people we trust, so I apologize if that's different than what you're familiar with." I shook my head slightly, shoving the subject aside for the moment. "Anyway, as I said, take the time you need, and if you decide you'd like to stay, speak with Maona out in the lobby."

Assuming he was finished, my gaze returned to the couple sheets of parchment on the desk before me, and I picked up the mug of hot chocolate again to finish it.

But no one told you that this was going to hurt. And now all I really want is to scream.

I heard him and felt myself chuckle at Kaileer’s comment about a life of excitement. He was right, my expectations were somewhat unrealistic, more than somewhat, really, but it didn’t matter. I guess I would look around and see what I could find, if something was a good fit, maybe they had something that aligned with me perfectly, although that was unlikely. “You’re right.” I said as I pushed myself off the wall and gave the sprite one last lingering look. “I’ll be sure to speak with Maona about my final decision, it shouldn’t take more than a week, I promise.” With that said, I gave Kaileer a nod, and quickly added: ”Thank you for your time, Kaileer,” and with that, I just turned my back on the man and walked out of the office and the building.

PA - Firestarter: The strength of Taiki's fire jutsu are treated as being a rank higher in strength, but cost .5 chakra more, rounded up. [ E Rank = 8, D Rank = 15, C Rank = 30, B Rank = 60, A Rank = 120, S Rank = 240, S+ Rank = 540]

PA - Fire Brand: By adding the tiger seal at the beginning of maruton techniques, Taiki is able to alter the very nature of the technique, transforming it into a fire style jutsu.

PA - Pathfinder: Every 25 posts, Taiki is able to roll a 10 sided dice. If it lands on a 1 or a 10, Taiki obtains a randomly generated type of map (4 sided, 1 is a small, 2 is a medium, 3 is a large and 4 is an epic).

Discipline - Scavenger [D]: In a world where survival of the fittest is the rule of law it is the Scavenger who learns that the key to survival is possession of needed materials and items. For every other Experience Rank after D - rank (B and S - ranks), generate a number between one and three [1 - 3], and follow the chart below when looking for materials:
→ On a roll of one [1], increase materials gathered by fifty percent [50%].
→ On a roll of two [2], note a member of the Event Coordination Team. A potential rare material is discovered!
→ On a roll of three [3], the durability of the material(s) found is increased by one [1] step.

_______________The Yawn of a New Beginning... ||
tab To say the young Sylph was offended by the clear attack on her character, her appearance, and most importantly, her character, would be about right for the most part. Fiorzia wasn't the type to get overly worked up often due to the reality that she couldn't remember it ten minutes later. Better to move on anyway, that's what her mother always told her, so that's what she did? As the level of snark rose within the room she almost declared them both heads of the House of Snark, but winter was already there and no one here would recognize the genius of her humor. So, instead, she decided to sit on the table and lay out across the large map as if she wasn't in any way, shape, or form a bother. She was, of course, but ******** you if you called her on it. Instead she just stretched out languidly and yawned, releasing a small, cute squeak before resting her arms behind her head and exposing mounds of flesh in the desire to stir up one of them to stop being so boring.
:Tab: Then Tiny Snark decided it was time for him to leave, having asked his questions of Big Snark, and left the room to speak with the Queen of Sass. Truly, this was a monumental occasion worthy of note and praise! At least it would have been had Kaileer did more than be cordial the entire time.
tab Once the door shut she waved a hand lazily about before gesturing to first herself, and then he. What were they to do now? While she was against travel the whole staying still and doing nothing of note was beginning to way on her. It had been like five minutes of her not being the center of attention, for the Gods' sakes! What sort of blasphemy was this?! Sighing, she sat up and dusted off her loose top, making sure no graphite or chalk remained before she gave him a curious stare, awaiting his response. It was clear from her demeanor that she was expecting that they go somewhere, what with her posterior wiggling slightly in anticipation and her toes curled, ready to spring.

The travel was hard, but it wasn't anything major. He only got this far was because there was no type of resistance with him. He didn't fight or argue. He allowed for the large bag to be searched. They didn't take his scythe or anything. They just let it be. His first orders were to go towards Grim Hall. To meet the person in charge. He didn't know who this was, but it was obvious that he needed get it done. Besides, he may not remember much, but he needed to know what his job was. He had a job to do. Luckily for whoever this person was in charge, Usienn was a loyal soldier of authority. No matter who was in charge. Making it to the door, he would soon be escorted in. Once enlisted in the community, he would be able to train and get stronger for protection. "This place...What is this ?" Ussien questioned as he would knock on the door and wait for an answer.

Behind you, a young red-eyed woman stared daggers into your back as you by-passed her and knocked on the door yourself. Still, she didn't stand to do anything about it, legs crossed and book in hand. Apparently the office was busy today. "This is Ikeinasu," she answered, gaze returning to her book. "An outpost on the edge of the city of Tsukihara, and a safe haven from the yokai that rule it. Kaileer will be with you in just a moment."

Been looking at the sky like someone was looking down. But it keeps raining on me.

[Location:] In the office.

Taiki left with a mention of thanks, leaving just myself and Fiorzia in the room once more. Finding a blank corner of a piece of paper I wasn't using sticking out from under the sylph, pointedly ignoring her, I jotted down his name and anything else I recalled about him. At this point I'd seen her naked enough that, while it was always a pleasant sight, I wasn't going to fall for her attempt at a distraction. One of the human concepts she seemed to not understand was business; I was kept on my toes pretty much all day every day and had to savor in the brief moments of silence. Which were usually interrupted by Fiorzia because she was bored. Maybe it was because she was still learning about human beings that she acted so childishly.

Not to mention her personality was bipolar as the wind itself, hence the strange way she tried to steal my attention.

The moment the newcomer was out the door, yet again the sprite was asking what they were going to do. I frowned slightly at her. "I'm working, Fiorzia. And even if we did go somewhere, it'd probably just be to the dojo, or to get something to eat." I pushed myself to my feet. "Your clearly capable of going out on your own, stealing supplies, and making hot chocolate, so find something to entertain yourself with. Preferably something that doesn't cause trouble." I didn't exactly mean to sound irritated, but I did and I was, though I mostly attributed it to being tired and hungry. I couldn't honestly say I'd slept all that well in the last three months, since there was so much to do and worry about. And being cooped up in town wasn't helping. Thankfully, though, we'd had enough food to get by with the help of everyone that had found their way there.

Before I even got to move, there was a knock at the door. Someone else was visiting. I groaned audibly, but rolled my shoulders to loosen them and moved to let the next person in.

Opening the door, I came face to face with a young male instead of Maona like I was expecting. I glanced over at her, and though she looke annoyed she just shrugged. My gaze returned to the stranger. About the same height and weight as me, I guessed, with messy dark hair and similarly colored eyes. His attire suggested he hadn't been out in the cold long, because it definitely wasn't suited for the weather Iron had to offer. "Come on in," I offered, and then turned around and headed back to the desk, upon which Fiorzia still sat. I leaned against the front of the desk and faced the newcomer, crossing my arms. "So, what can I do for you?" I tried to grin but I was half convinced it was more of a grimace. I wish the new people would all be herded in there at once so I didn't have to repeat myself five times, but it couldn't be helped.

But no one told you that this was going to hurt. And now all I really want is to scream.

"Take the time just to listen
When the voices screaming are much too loud

Useinn would feel like he was being watched but didn’t say anything. Did he really walk past someone so rudely? Hearing the first statement, he would turn to look at the woman that was speaking. A light blush came over his face. He really wasn’t sure how to approach that or respond. This wasn’t just his first time talking to a woman, but first time talking to anyone in…how long has it been. Her naming for the location didn’t make too much sense. Wasn’t this Kirigakure. Maybe he was too busy thinking about other things during his trek here, but this place sure didn’t give off a mist feel to it. “You mean this isn’t Kirigakure?” he would question with confusion. Ikeinasu. He, never heard of the place but yet ended up here. Was it a new place that was made? Or was Useinn still forgetting some things. “Yokai rule? Are they? Evil? Like an evil Yokai village?” Yes, he was that confused on what the hell they were. Hopefully someone would save him from this ignorance. If not, he may just drown in it. Kaileer. Speaking of which, there he is.

Hearing a door open, he would come face to face with the boy? The one known as Kaileer. They seemed almost equals but that man had way more danger attached to him then Useinn had at the moment. Something to strive for maybe in the future. He felt he needed to get stronger, but he also needed an allegiance and hopefully a good one. There was an urge to reach for my scythe, just to be careful and have it in reach. The look towards Moana striking a little fear into Useinn. However, he didn’t move or budge. Instead, he waited till spoken to in order to relax and ease some of the tension. Heading inside, he would take a few steps before choosing to stand instead of sitting. “I just need some basics..What is this place, who is in charge, and the requirements for joining?” he would state simply. He needed a way back to Kirigakure, but he couldn’t just do that now. Instead, he would just work with the resources he had. Once he gained back his strength and skills then he had a better chance of returning home. Besides, he had no other choice. What was he going to do? Leave on his own accord. He knew nothing of this place. Was it a democracy? A dictatorship? Plus, normalcy would be way better than trying to go out and be scattered brained and die within…..10 days? Give or take.

Been looking at the sky like someone was looking down. But it keeps raining on me.

[Location:] In the office.

I overheard the young man questioning the yokai, and for a moment had to remind myself, once more, that not everyone knew of their existence. Especially if they had recently woken. They hadn't had to face the terrors the rest of us had faced in the last three months. But still, there was a lot of misconception about them that I decided to clear up before getting to the core of his questions. "Neither Fades, or 'Yokai' as they often refer to themselves here, nor Sprites are inherently good or evil," I explained, looking at Fiorzia sitting on the desk behind me. "They're beings of emotion; Fades are born of powerful negative emotions when a creature dies, and Sprites are born of positive. So I guess Fades tend to lean toward what could be considered 'evil', and Sprites toward 'good'." My gaze returned to the newcomer. "Most of the Yokai that inhabit this area are just mischievous spirits that like to cause annoyances for us. But if you go in to the city of Tsukihara at the top of this mountain, it is ruled by beings who hate humans and enslave Sprites. Which is why we fight against them."

That mouthful of information finished, I grabbed of my mug of hot cocoa and took a decent sized drink before continuing. "As for the 'basics' as you call them..." I pushed myself off of the desk to stand a bit straighter, raising my hands slightly to my sides. "This is the town of Ikeinasu, which exists along the only functioning foot path leading out of the city. Technically a good friend of mine, and heir to the Iron Throne, Musunde Hiraite, is in charge. But he's been missing for the last three months. I have faith he's still alive but in the meanwhile, I'm in charge." I held out a hand to him, offering a shake and my name. "Kaileer Cein'lys."

Regardless of whether or not he took the proffered hand, I let it fall back to my side, and leaned back against the desk. Rubbing the back of my neck, I considered a moment the best way to explain how the community worked. "So... It's best to think of me as the 'first among equals'," I explained for the second time in an hour. "I'm in this position because the people here respect me. Over the last three months, we've become a close community that exists because everyone puts their fair share of work in. But outside of that, it's a safe haven for travelers, especially those that were unfortunate enough to wake up in the city. So long as you pull your own weight here, you're free to stay as long as you like." I pointed to the door behind the young man, referring to the hallway beyond it. "There's a job board by the entrance that always has something that needs done. So if you ever need something to do you can check there. Otherwise, ask around. I'm sure someone would be willing to give you their work."

I stopped myself from going on, wondering for a moment if I'd over-explained. But I wasn't entirely sure where the sudden anxiety came from; it wasn't like I was new to any of this. First in Kumo, then the Stragari, and now here, I had well over a decade of leadership. I brushed it off as something having to do with my younger body, an maybe the worry that had accompanied me back then. Because there was honestly no reason for it.

A knock on the door--again--drew my attention away from the newcomer, and I almost audibly sighed. However, the door immediately opened to Maona, her normally neutrally angry face a bit brighter for once. Beyond her, I could see the figure of one of the guards, although his form was partially transparent. Projection? And that was someone from the North Gate. Had something happened? The young secretary smiled a small bit. "It looks like your friend Hono has finally shown up," she explained, and then ducked back out.

I froze, my body unsure how exactly to react. Hono was there? But by the sounds of it, it was only him. Still, the immense relief I felt that one of them was safe was almost overwhelming. At the same time, concern flooded in with it. Was he harmed? How had he even survived so long on his own? I'd barely gotten to speak to him before we were separated after waking, but he'd reverted to his more fragile state, as he was before we faced the Stragari.

My gaze turned back to the newcomer. Oh right, I had to finish this first. Suddenly restless, I spoke a bit more bluntly as I continued, but maybe he would understand? "Did you have any other questions for me?"

But no one told you that this was going to hurt. And now all I really want is to scream.

User Image_______________A New Arrival... ||
The young guard led the way along an incredibly long bridge that traversed the sky maybe a little under ten meters over a road that followed the same path. People walked both on the bridge and on the ground below until you reached another wall, this time wooden, with a gate, after which point only carts seemed to move, and buildings were sparse. In fact, both sides of the road were exposed to the surrounding forest. Almost like each wall separated its own small town. Up on the north side of the town, however, people were far and few between; the business increased the further south the pair of you went. "We use the walls as defense against an inevitable attack from the yokai," the guard explained. "Each of the walls surrounds a different district, with a buffer zone in between. It makes getting anywhere take a while but it's easier to defend the citizens." He gestured to a thick cable that followed along the bridge. "The zip-line is a faster option to get between districts, but with how nervous you were, I didn't want to subject you to that. Right now, the line only travels downhill, so it's not particularly useful heading north anyway. We're hoping that, once we can get electricity running, we can build one that travels both directions." He seemed to hold a great amount of pride in the setup, shown in the grin he gave you.

As you two traveled, he pointed out each of the districts you passed over, each of which had stairs leading off of the bridge down to it. It started with the Academic District, followed by a large research facility, then the Residential District. The guard led you down the stairs at the following district, the Administrative District, where the two of you approached a large building--it appeared to have been a combination between of several buildings, given newer sections of wood and stone that filled spaces between older parts.

[I'll give you a chance to post if you want. xD]

Honō didn't hesitate to step onto the bridge, but nor was either side of the bridge
particularly attractive either. At first. After half a district of walking, curiosity, led
by moss-green eyes wide with wonder, could not be held back any longer and the
Hari clan member was peering over the railings and taking in everything the guard
was pointing to and explaining. It was such a stark contrast of a village; the mix of
technological advancements and the basic necessities were all presented in such
a uniform manner despite the lack of tools they had all come to rely on and expect.
The everyday was a task now, but they were making it work.

"It really is all gone." Honō spoke, the voice listless, sad, but still full of admiration
for what has already been achieved. Sad and happy at once. It sounded natural to
speak in such a way. Complacent. There was no intended audience for those words.
No desire to speak on the topic. Almost as if it was a simple admission, a fact now
realised but long been aware of. "I hope I can be of use to everyone." Honō's smile is
simple a kinder version of a neutral expression now. No real joy beyond the residual,
pulsating relief of the feeling of safety wrapping around them. "And I will work on my
worry of heights. I would not want to be of hesitation in the event of an emergency."

Here Honō bowed, as though accepting a request that had been asked of the Hari
clan member. It also appeared as though Honō was taking in all of the information
presented to them with no real apparent strain. It helped the guard had been so clear
and simple in presenting the facts and tips of the village - ah! And how the reality of
rudeness once again pulls down on the otherwise fair, pale features and Honō bows
deep, even while walking. "My apologies. You have been so considerate. How should
you be adressed properly in conveying gratitude?" There was deliberate avoidance of
using any words referring to 'I', 'my' or the like. It was rarely noticed. But one should
not make an apology to another by bringing their self in as the main focus.

"Take the time just to listen
When the voices screaming are much too loud

Useinn would find out that he was getting more than he thought in regards to his questions but he wasn't upset by this. He was happy to take any information that he could get. Yokai and fades were emotional creatures. Fades and Sprites? Either or, at the end of the day, he would remember that Fades should be careful about. Though, how would he even recognize when he meets one? An interesting question but one he wouldn't ask. Tsukihara was named dropped. That was the place that was the enemy of this community. "In that case, they are my enemy as well" he stated simply. He would keep that ingrained in his head, but he probably was going to need to figure out where the ******** Tsukihara was in relations to this place anyways. Kaileer would pause. His mouthful causing a thirst within him.

Once the drink was over, he would continue his explanations."Ussein" he would respond and give a shake to Kaileer's hand. He didn't know what his last name was for some odd reason. It was escaping him. Until he figured it out, he was going to just try to avoid having to use his last name. Everything ended up being explained. How it was as a community. The respect factor. Jobs that needed be done and such. Always something was in the works. They were interrupted by the woman who shot daggers in back of his head. Someone was there to visit Kaileer? Quickly, Usein felt he needed to get out. "No more questions. I shall head out so you can get on with your other engagements for the day"

I've been looking at the sky to show me where I went wrong.

Been looking at the sky like someone was looking down. But it keeps raining on me.

[Location:] In the courtyard.

I nodded my thanks to Ussein. At least he seemed to sense my urgency. Taking that as my chance to leave, I grabbed a small stack of papers from the desk and hurried out of the room with Fiorzia close behind. She was bored and nosy, so she followed me everywhere. Literally everywhere. I was used to it at that point, but others still found it strange. I ignored them, too.

On the way out I dropped the papers on Maona's desk, to which she delivered me a scowl that I hardly noticed. "You're in charge for now. If anyone needs to talk to me, tell them to come back later." I didn't wait for her answer before heading down the hall and out the front doors. Thinking about it, the messenger hadn't actually told me where Hono was being taken. Either they were waiting up by the north gate or they were heading--

The second option had been the right one. The Administrative District was on the way to the Market District, so it made sense that they would come there. Still seeing a good friend in one piece after so long was enough to stop the train of thought in its tracks.

As I approached, I overheard the pair speaking. Ryouma was with Hono. "Hachirou Ryouma. Most just call me Ryouma," he said, looking a bit uncomfortable. "And there's nothing to be grateful for. We're not just gonna leave you out there to freeze."

A small smirk touched my lips at that. My guess was that Hono had been apologizing the entire way. That much hadn't changed, I supposed. The long-haired youth had lost height from when I had known him in the old world, and I could tell that there was next to no mass underneath the pile of clothes he wore. Which again made me wonder how he'd managed to survive so long. There were edible plants sure, but that only went so far when you didn't know what you were looking for, and I couldn't see him ever being able to hunt an animal.

Ryouma finally noticed my approach and took a step back, gesturing toward me. "I've got to get back to my post, but here you are."

My grin broadened and I watched for a moment as he walked away before turning to Hono, ignoring Fiorzia obnoxiously hovering over my shoulder. "I'm glad to see you finally made it," I said, crossing my arms against a chilly breeze that passed through. "You... alright?"

But no one told you that this was going to hurt. And now all I really want is to scream.

Honō didn't lift from the bow until after finally learning the guard's - Hachirou Ryouma -
and giving a word of gratitude once again. "Thank you for your care, Ryouma-sama."
Honō spoke formally, but lifting from the bow revealed a small, grateful smile on pale
features, a calmness in the moss-green eyes there now that was there before names
were finally exchanged. "It was an honour to meet you." Honō added, sincere and so
gentle - oh? Green eyes blinked and turned and a small tilt of the head mind pausing
in its usual whir of anxiety to quietly ponder what Ryouma may have been indicating
to - "Kaileer-sama...!" Honō smiles brightly, unable to prevent the quiet burst of joy in
seeing a familiar face. By Honō's standards, the burst was far too excessive as far as
noise levels go, but to the average standard? Barely any louder than someone's usual
                    speaking volume.

Once more, Honō folds in half, forehead precariously close to the ground despite the
fact their legs remained dead straight. Meeting eye-to-eye briefly after returning to
full height, Honō quickly averts their gaze in shame.

"My sincere apologies, Kaileer-sama." The spindly digits of Honō's hands remained
clasped, unmoving except to tighten their grip when the ice-touched breeze reached
them. "I am unharmed, thanks to the hard work of a man named Servus." Honō did
a deep bow here, as if thanking Servus in person. Lifting back up, there is a small
smile once more on the frail features. "It is thanks to them that I am here at all. I do
not believe I would have located this village on my own. And though I am glad to see
you well, Kaileer-sama, you have always been capable, for as long as I have been
allowed to witness." Honō bows gently. "I am relieved to have met you here."

[ Taiki Matsumaya ]

Adventurer l Bukijutsu l Explorer l D - Rank

I made my way back to the administrative district and made a line straight for the board. Once there, I read the listings and picked out the one that was most attractive: “potential trouble”. I ripped the sign from the board and went around to look for this person called “Kiyoshi”, I went around asking for them until someone pointed me in the right direction. I approached them and said: “Excuse me, are you Kiyoshi? I’m here for this.” As I spoke, I pushed the paper toward them, showing this Kiyoshi person the paper with the name of the mission.

Pathfinder: 9 l 25

Techniques used:

Passives

User Image_______________Potential Trouble... ||
You found the young man, Kiyoshi, standing near a off-shoot of the main building, watching a group of people patch a hole in one of the walls. Tall and slim, his fine clothing seemed out of place against the dirt that seemed to generally cover everyone else. Neatly combed but slightly curly golden hair covered one of his eyes but the other, an icy blue, turned to you as you spoke. "I am indeed he," he said in a voice that matched his appearance. He took the paper offered to him. "Ah, right. I'd like you to come with me to investigate some smoke to the east of here. As the notice mentioned, it could be either other people who've just woken from their chrysalises, or it could be a Yokai patrol." His gaze returned to you, and he held the paper back out. "The smoke has grown faint, so it's possible they've moved on, but since it hasn't snowed, tracking them shouldn't be too difficulty." He turned away from the construction, and lead the way toward the bridge that connected the districts. "There's a potential that we could run into Yokai, so prepare yourself for combat if you need to, and meet me at the south gate when you're ready. If you have someone you'd like to bring along, do so. Otherwise, I'll bring along one of my scouts."

Finally, he paused at the base of the stairs, finished with his brief explanation. "And questions, before we part ways?"
