Just as you think you've made your way out of the worst of the forest, a series of ominous howls close by assures you that you definitely have not seen the worst. It doesn't take long for the wolves to appear from within the shadows. Golden eyes and snarling fangs begin the chase - whether they're going after your poor horse or after you is still yet to be determined.

Let's just hope your horse still has some energy left in him to get you out of this bind.

The branch had slapped at her face, but thankfully the blanket made the sting of the branch. Not so bad. She turned to check on her father

"Dad are you alright? You weren't hurt were you?"

He didn't answer her. He was looking all around him. He looked worried. He took his index finger to his mouth. And talked softly.

"Do you hear that?"

"Hear wha..."

That was when Kaileen saw them. Wolves. They must of been what spooked the poor horse. They were making there way towards them.

The horse was not fast enough and the wolves catches up to them.

The only thing that ran though her mind was protecting her father. She took off her boots and smacked the closet wolf.

She kept slapping and hitting at the wolves until finally they stopp0ed trying to get to her and her father and feel back.

"Dad we need to stop the horse. Grab the reins or something."

The next sound she heard was rushing water. Cold rushing water to be exact. Wonderful she always wanted to swim in freezing water. Not!!

"Hold on Dad."

The carriage went into the water and cold water started to fill the carriage. But the horse was making progress toward the other side of the river. Kaileen was a cold and shivering. But at least they were almost to the other side.

1-3: Your foot rises to the step but thanks to your snow-covered shoe, you manage to slip and fall backwards, right into the snow. Embarrassed and now slightly damp, you hurry your way up into the carriage before even more people notice your embarrassing blunder.

Bernard had been making his way through the snow, taking a longer time than usual since he sunk into it rather than walked on top of it. However, as he was wandering along, trying to get back to his home, he spotted a group of people. He wondered for a bit and since curiosity got the better of him, decided to see what they were looking at.

When he finally made his way to the front of the crowds, he could see that it was a carriage ride! Something he had never been on, and would have definitely preferred to ride on a warmer day but... there was an opportunity right now.

The crowd started to disperse though, probably having been gathered waiting for the last carriage to make it's round so that their friends or relatives or whatnot would finally meet back up with them and they could go. But the carriage waited, meaning...

Bernard tried to take a step into the carriage, but ice combined with his weight and being a bit too short caused him to fall back into the snow!

He got out as soon as he could however, and shook the snow that was stuck to his fur off of him, and hoped that no one had seen him, then, with some effort, managed to climb into the carriage. Hopefully the nice driver would be willing to take the kitty for a ride!

You rise up into the carriage effortlessly and settle in onto the comfortable seat cushion. A vibrantly colored cardinal flies down, perching on the side of the cart before serenading you with a delightful tune. What a way to start a fun adventure!

Etoile had seen horse-drawn carriages before, at least on TV, but she'd never actually seen one up close, let alone been on one of them. She hadn't actually planned on being outside in the snow, but she had gotten bored and gone out exploring for a change. Curious, the Mauvian had found herself drawn to the line of people waiting for a ride, and, even though she couldn't quite express her intentions out loud, ended up waiting in line with the others.

Finally, it was her turn, or maybe not necessarily her turn as much as the last set of riders before her were finished, and there seemed to be no humans waiting for a turn, so the kitten climbed her way up onto the carriage, paying no heed to the idea that maybe kitties like her weren't permitted onboard, with no major trouble at all. As she made herself at home on the seat cushion, Etoile spotted a little red bird perched on the edge, singing a little tune to the little cat. Thankfully, she wasn't a cat that was interested in hunting small animals, but rather, eating sweets and candy, and so the bird was spared to live another day.

As she waited for the ride to begin, Etoile noticed that she had been joined by... another cat! Another cat, just like her, though she wasn't certain she had ever seen him before, though it wasn't as if she ever really committed to memory any of the cats she had seen around HQ before.

"Hello!" she chirped happily, though quietly, so that the driver wouldn't overhear.

Finally out of the river Kaileen letted out a big breath. The horse started to stop galloping fast and slowly made it's way to a route that seem like it had been to before.

"OK you can take us bsck."

She wanted to go and get warm. The horse took them to a field filled with the most beautifulist flowers that Kaileen had ever seen. There was also little sparkly lights floating around.

"Dad. This is so beautiful"

Kaileen had to get a picture of this. She started to pay her self and realized she forgot her phone.

"Looking for this?

Her father opened his suit jacket and took out her phone from a hidden pocket.

Kaileen smiled.

"Thanks."

As another carriage arrived Kaileens father helped her out of the one they were in. The driver of the other carriage took the reigns and looked them over.

"Are you guys OK? Get inside mines there are extra blankets."

Kaileen and her father got inside and they slowly made their way back.

What an adventure. Kaileen looked over at her father. She wouldn't want to have such an adventure with any one else.

Pulling the provided blanket onto your lap, it's time for your ride to begin!

…… or it would be, but your driver is quickly dismounting from his seat, apologizing profusely as he feels the need to visit the restroom prior to leaving. Ah, well, a few minutes wait won't hurt, right?

Your horse seems to think otherwise, though, as not seconds after the driver reaches for the horse's reins to tie them up, the stallion seems to be spooked by something that no one else sees. With a terrified whinny, he rears up and begins a sprint - carrying you behind in tow!

It looks like your adventure is beginning - but without a driver!

7-10: The sudden breeze whooshes through your hair, somehow making it look even more beautiful than it already looked. Although you've been tossed into a startling situation, you're at least comfortable beneath the thick blanket as the carriage goes careening down the hill.

Bernard sighed as he tried to sink back into the seat a bit, but heard the quiet "hello" next to him, and turned around. It was another mauvian! This one seemed much younger than he was though. He felt a tinge of embarrassment realizing that she had probably seen his clumsiness as he tried to get into the carriage. But oh well! One could not flee from every situation! And he was here already, so might as well enjoy the ride, no?

He smiled at the other, his fur-stache curling a bit. "Ah, Miss! I haven't seen you before, but I am glad that we could try out this carriage ride together! I am Bernard." He said, giving her a slight bow.

As he was introducing himself though, it seemed that the driver was getting out of the seat, and Bernard didn't notice. "I hope we have a nice ride together!" He said, before suddenly feeling a lurch as the carriage started to move as the horse decided to go off on his own.

Bernard gripped the seat tightly with his claws, feeling fear coming up on him. Although it was quite nice out, he hadn't been in such a situation before, and as such, was quite fearful, though he didn't want the other mauvian to know. "Ah, well... seems like we're going on an adventure now!"

How charming! And gentlemanly! Etoile beamed with delight as Bernard bowed to her, happy to make a new friend. "My name is Etoile!" she greeted, cheerfully, "It's very nice to meet you, Bernard."

The driver left, unnoticed to the two cats, but apparently the horse had other plans, for the carriage started to take off without the driver, leaving the two kitties still onboard. While not an easily spooked cat, Etoile was still caught offguard by this motion, and while scrambling to grab a hold of something, fell backwards, bumping against the back of the carriage. Oh no!

"Oh yes, I hope this is a fun adventure," she told Bernard, after she had recovered from her little incident, and followed suit with digging her claws into the seat, so as to not go flying off again.

Prompt 1 - All Aboard!
As you stand next in line for your turn for a ride, a beautiful stallion soon arrives to the waiting area, pulling behind it an ornate, elegant looking carriage cart. Despite having taken several rides before you, the horse seems to be full of energy and the driver as cheerful as ever. The party before you leaves the ride, so now it's your turn to hop on!

4-6: Someone behind you manages to bump into you, no doubt an impatient customer waiting for their turn to ride the romantic looking carriage. Being the better person, you ignore their existence and climb your way up onto the cart.

Roll Count = 6

Humming softly to herself as she re-wrapped her scarf and settled a knit cap more firmly over her mostly shaven head, Myth admired the horse that came trotting up to deposit the previous ride group and collect a new one. Normally not one to indulge in carriage rides, she nonetheless had happily gotten herself a ticket for this one. And now, seeing how energetic and happy both horse and driver seemed to be, she was glad that she had.

And who cared if almost everyone else around her was doing this with a special someone in their life? She could go out and have fun on her own! Besides, she argued with herself, look at the cart! It was impressive and would make for an excellent memory when she was old and cranky.

A careful glance showed that it was time for her group to starting getting into the cart. Myth stepped forward slightly, careful not to crowd and before she could really react felt someone bump into her from behind. Stumbling forward, she caught herself before she could do the same to the people in front of her and fumed silently. Not even a whisper of an apology from whoever it had been! Rude, classless dolt, she thought. Of course, she could turn around and stare down anyone near her, but why make things unpleasant for the folks who weren't asses?

No. She'd be the better person. Holding her head up, she calmly made her way forward and into the cart, her face a mask of complete serenity.

Take that, assbutt.

Prompt 2 - Rides Will Resume Shortly... Woah! Wait!

Roll Count = 6 + 10

Settling herself into her seat and under the provided blanket, Myth vaguely heard the carriage driver apologizing and mentioning the bathroom. Well, it made sense, really. Who knew how many rides he'd been through since the last time he might've relieved himself. And if it were me, she thought, I'd wait til the last group was off and the new group on and getting settled for my pee break. All perfectly logical.

What was far less logical was the sudden terrified whinny from the horse as it reared before bolting in fright from something Myth couldn't even see.Bumping along in the cart, she could feel her hair moving in the sudden breeze created by the horse's run. She couldn't see what was happening, but she imagined that it looked very dramatic and amazing.

And hey, the provided blankets were pretty thick, so she was warm and protected (for the moment) from being bruised black and blue from being jostled around. Closing her eyes, all Myth could do was hold on grimly and hope that the horse would calm down soon.

Prompt 3 - Forest of No Return??
The carriage heads straight for the dense forest in front of you, the poor stallion still running at top notch speed away from.. well, whatever initially spooked the beast. As the vehicle lurches and rocks from side to side, you find that there's an even more ominous threat laying straight ahead of you.

Rather -- right at eye level with you!

Branches loom in the air like spindly, gnarled fingers reaching for you and you'll have to utilize your best dodging skills to avoid getting smacked (or worse!)

4-6: Ducking and dodging comes pretty easily for you. While you still get nicked and scraped a bit from the smaller, harder to see branches, you manage to come out of the forest fairly intact.

Roll Count = 6 + 10 + 4

Once into the forest, Myth gulped. The horse showed no signs of stopping. Whatever had startled it had done a good job of thoroughly spooking the poor thing. Silently vowing to donate to whatever horse PTSD charities she could find if she made it out of the carriage cart alive, Myth glanced up and yelped before throwing herself to one side. Where her face had been moments prior, a large tree branch whipped through the air.

All around, tree branches whipped through the air. Myth found herself being one of the ones lucky enough to be good at dodging. Though more than once, she let out a little screech as she felt smaller, whippier branches strike her face and head. A warm trickle along her cheek told her that she'd gotten at least one small scratch. Maybe more. It was hard to tell.

Once the trees began to clear, she let out a sigh of gratitude. Maybe now the horse would chill.

Prompt 4 - Wolves? No one said anything about wolves...

1-3: Leaning over, you decide the best course of action is to toss out any unnecessary items to help lighten the load. While it was a good idea in theory, one especially hungry wolf decides that your flailing hand is the perfect target for its next meal. You're able to draw back your hand quick enough but not fast enough not to get a pretty nasty bite -- oh no!!!

Roll Count = 6 + 10 + 4 + 3

Feeling a chill ripple down her spine as the first howl echoed through the forest, Myth went cold. Wolves? There were goddamned wolves out here?!? Scrambling from the protective blanket cocoon, she leaned over the edge of the cart and began cursing. She could see the long, loping bodies racing out of the shadows of the forest. And even worse, she could clearly see their golden, hungry eyes.

Nevermind that wolf packs weren't supposed to attack people. Especially people in a big wooden cart with a panicky horse attached. Clearly, these wolves had not gotten that memo. And even Myth knew that adrenalin could sustain the horse's flight for only so long. She couldn't ask people to jump off to lighten the load, but she could damn sure try to help by throwing out extra blankets and loose bits and bobs.

Myth even managed to get a good few things tossed out before one wolf had managed to get close enough to not only see her hand was within range, but to take the opportunity presented. Later, she would truthfully say that she hadn't seen the wolf as she drew back her hand. Not even realized how close it had been until she felt large, sharp teeth sinking into her forearm and tearing flesh.

Screaming and falling back into a seat, Myth stared at her torn and bleeding arm incredulously. Could this ride get any more bizarre or any worse?

Prompt 5 - Sink or Swim!
The wolves seem to fall back and you're grateful for whatever reason they decided to abandon their hunt... until you glance back towards the front of the carriage and see the choppy water of the cold, rushing river ahead of you. Your horse doesn't seem to think about the potential of drowning as it drags you and your vehicle into the water, splashing as he tromps his way forward.

Time to decide whether or not you're going to sink or swim!

1-3: You hold your breath with the impending fear of being swept away by the current as the water overtakes the carriage. In your worry of being pushed out by the water, you don't actually think about how long you've been holding your breath and before you know it, you (choose):

Grow faint and dizzy. In a few more seconds, you're passing out onto the floor of the carriage.

Manage to exhale but an extremely floppy trout comes sailing out of the water and smacks you on the side of the head, knocking you out cold.

Either way, you fail to wake up until the carriage reaches the other side of the river.

Roll Count = 6 + 10 + 4 + 3 + 1

As she sat trying to doctor her bitten hand, Myth was grateful to note that the wolves howls seemed to be fading. She was much less grateful when she glanced up from a clumsy attempt at bandaging to see the horse and cart approaching the river. Screaming a little as horse and cart both went into the cold churning water, Myth held her breath, certain that the cart was going to crumble around her and send everyone into the river to drown.

She wasn't sure how long she'd been holding her breath, but her screaming lungs took over and forced her to exhale. But before she could begin to suck in greedy gulps of air, an honest to gods trout came flying up out of the water and Myth felt a cold, hard body hit her head.

With a gentle "whoop", Myth's eyes rolled up into her head and she sank into the cart, out cold.

Prompt 6 - At least the horse knows its way...
As the stallion leaves the river and climbs his way back up onto the banks, he seems to finally be tuckered out from all of the excitement and exercise. Although his trot is significantly slower, the animal seems to know where it's going and soon you're approaching a small field with an array of flowers - an odd sight to see in the middle of winter but it's there, nevertheless.

As the beast comes to a halt to begin munching on a few of the colorful flowers, a small, sparkly burst of color zips by your head and for a second, you wonder if your tired mind is playing tricks on you.

4-6: There's a small giggle in the air but like the light, it vanishes without a trace. Your horse seems relatively more soothed than the beginning of your adventure and for the first time in what feels like forever, you're able to relax in your cart.

Roll Count = 6 + 10 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 4

Coming to as the horse finally, finally began to slow down, Myth sat up groggily and watched as the horse slowly trotted into a flower field and then stopped to graze. Pulling herself back into a seat, she draped her injured arm over the side and just watched the horse, brain too tired to wonderful why she was looking at flowers in the middle of winter.

She was beginning to relax herself and was allowing her eyes to close when a small, burst of color zipped by her head. Sitting bolt upright, Myth wondered what was going to attack them next. The light had vanished and the horse certainly seemed calm enough. As she looked around warily, Myth heard a tiny, friendly enough giggle echo through the still air. But since she couldn't spot the person laughing, she gave up. Besides, it was so nice to sit and relax and not have to worry about being drowned or eaten alive.

A nearby carriage arrives, apparently having witnessed your dunk into the treacherous river. The worried looking driver hops down from his cart and quickly takes your horse's reins, securing it before assisting you down from your ride. The riders on his carriage scoot over to allow you room to join them. In about ten minutes, you're returned back to the clearing where you started at - your adventure is now over. You may want to reconsider, the next time you want to take a carriage ride out into the woods!

Final Roll Count = 6 + 10 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 4 = 28

By the time the second carriage arrived, Myth was more than happy to be helped down from her cart and up into the new one. She was even happier to have her hand bandaged.

Waiting for everyone to be loaded in, she sighed and silently prayed for an uneventful ride back to the clearing. One thing was sure though. She was never doing something like this again. The hell with romance or the magical wonders of the season. She'd think about the magic and wonder of it all after she'd gotten a round of rabies shots.
