Sa'ana of Brown Memianth

Name: Sa'ana (previously Saffiana)
Age: 24 25 26 Turns
Sex: female
Sexual Orientation: Fluid
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank:  wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Dancer/ *Assassin

Physical Description:
- 6'2" tall
- healthy, slender and graceful with curves in all the right places- proportionate boobs, hips and a butt
- creamy fair skin with a clear complexion
- very long, 'fluffy' platinum blonde hair
- deep indigo eyes
- no distinguishing scars or birthmarks

- favors clothes that are easy to move in, and well-tailored for everyday wear
but has a weakness for clothes that might be considered frilly and girly to dress-up in whenever she gets the chance.

Personality:
To be a good dancer/entertainer/courtesan/whatever her Madam wanted her to be, Saffiana knew it would take all the focus and dedication she had. To not only learn the skills, but to internalise them. To make them part of who she was. To be the best. Because nothing else would do. This also translates to everything about her daily life as well. She is determined to be the best. No matter how much work it takes or how hard it is.

She is not only book smart- there was a lot more to becoming a dancer than one might think... there is history and theory, as well as the steps, and how to feel the music and become one with it. She is also street smart. She had to be living alone on the streets, in order to survive. And the skills learned so early in life are deeply ingrained in one's being.

However, there is a flip-side to such knowledge and experience. It makes one distant, untrusting. Unable to easily connect, at least in any meaningful way. She does the best she can, as an actress and entertainer, but her relationships are shallow, and very few get to know the real her.Fearing that anyone who gets to know her would find her...lacking in some way or another. She hides behind a mask and so far only Memianth has managed to get behind it and see her for what she is.

Positive Trait List: dedicated, graceful, intelligent
Negative Trait List: self-serving, slow to trust, insecure

History:  Parentage and family history is unknown. Saffiana was discovered living on the streets in Bitra when she was roughly five or six turns. Despite the filth and grime, her exotic appearance and uncanny grace attracted the attention of a well-to-do brothel Madam who had been in the market shopping for her girls. With an eye for valuable goods, she saw what a precious asset the girl might one day become. So the Madam took her in, raising her with an eye to her becoming one of her headliners.

As soon as Saffiana was old enough, the Madam sent her to Courtesan Hall to begin training. When her teachers noticed her unusual grace and the quiet way she moved, it was determined that she would also make a very effective assassin. With her consent and the blessing of her guardian – as it could only increase her value to the Madam – she began cross-training in that specialty.

Seven years of training later, and she was starting to prepare to walk the tables for both specialties, when a passing blue rider Searched her for a clutch at the High Reaches Weyr. She never expected to actually Impress, but it was an opportunity. To be free and gain at least some measure of control over her life. Offering her chances that being a headliner for Madam would never get.

Impressing Memianth was one of the greatest days she had known. Better than when Madam rescued her from the streets and gave her a home. Better than joining Courtesan Hall for her training and finding out she was actually worth something.. better than all of that.

It didn't matter that women weren't supposed to Impress browns. Anything. She was happy, having found the other half of her soul. And the fact that only males could ellide their names? How sexist. She decided that she didn't like the tradition or the attitude, and given that she would already be talked about for her Impressing Memianth, she decided to give them something else to talk about as well. She left Saffiana behind and became Sa'ana.

Brown Memianth

User Image

Name: Memianth
Age: 3 4 5 Turns
Color: Brown
Size: 32'

Physical Description: With a soft, creamy brown hide and delicate markings along his face, neck and back that might seem effeminate, Memianth is anything but. On the smaller side for a brown, he is thick and stocky, strong to make up for the lack of size. There is nothing delicate about this boy.

Personality:  Stubborn, independent and proud are all words that have been applied to Memianth, and for good reason. He isn't one to pay any attention to convention, and if there is something that he wants or feels is right, he will go ahead, damn the consequences. The only one who can temper these traits is His Sa'ana, though she is more likely to encourage said behaviors than try to curb them. He is a bright bold personality with a devil-may-care attitude that he shows the rest of the world, but when it comes to His and those he cares about, he is a fiercely protective, kind brown.

N'dir of Bronze Sukaidith

Name: N'dir (Nadir)
Age: 22 23 24 Turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: fluid
Weyr: Western
Rider Rank: wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: slave
Physical Description:
- 6'4”
- olive tan skin with a clear complexion
- slender of build, fairly robust in health
- Ice blue eyes
- thick full volume platinum blond hair that falls to his low back when not up in his signature style of small tight braids pulled up in a high ponytail or simply bundled at the base of his neck
- His back and torso are completely covered in scars from lashings and worse – most still look fairly fresh though they are around eight turns old, he lacks an enzyme that allows scars to heal and fade – and he is self-conscious so he will never (or at least extremely rarely), be seen without his shirt on.
- Aside from the small simple wooden flute that belonged to his mother, he had no possessions to call his own once he got to the weyr, and he still isn't one to go out and get trinkets or even fussy fancy clothing. He wears simple, plain, in good repair, and what will be appropriate to get his work done.

Personality: Forged in the crucible of extreme hardship and suffering, it is hard to know what N'dir might have been if given some chance in life. And while some might lament the past, and worry about the might-have-beens, that is not who he is. He might have had a harder life than others, but it means that N'dir knows the value of everything he has gained, and he is content with his lot, not wanting anything more than what he has now. Partly because he doesn't see the need for more, but more because he doesn't feel he deserves more or better. He is (was) a simple slave and he isn't (wasn't) worth more than that. A calm soul, with very few opinions of his own, he will defer to others, as surely they know better than a poor lowly slave.

He is also sensitive to the moods and feelings of those around him. And while he might not be the one to take the initiative to approach others. He is awkward, and living the life of a slave, he never learned how to connect with others. Leaving him with a sense of loneliness even if he is surrounded, and there are people who talk with and to him. He will be the one you can go to and confide your issues to. He likes to listen and offer what little support he can, knowing that sometimes all one needs to do is vent and feel like someone is listening and cares.

Positive Trait List: Empathetic, Calm, Content
Negative Trait List: Extremely low sense of self-worth, Lonely, Deferent

History: The sole child of an exiled thief and some random guy she met while on the road. Despite his harsh beginnings when it was just him and his mother, trying to survive however they could, his early childhood with her was happy - relatively speaking. They traveled constantly from hold to hold, never staying long, never able to settle down. There were times they went without food, or a comfortable place to lay their heads at night, but they had enough. They had each other.

When he was about 8 turns, his mother wanted him to have a better life. A life he couldn't have with her. He was sold to a kind lord holder of a very small hold as a slave to try and get him a better life.

This master was a kind, benevolent man who allowed all his servants and slaves access to education, so they could better serve him, so N'dir has a rudimentary ability to read, write and understand simple words and non-complex concepts.

But the holder fell on hard times and his possessions and property (including servants and slaves) were seized. The new lord was a cold, callous, cruel man and the hold and its people suffered. Luckily N'dir was Searched before he suffered too horribly under the lord's rule.

He was brought to the weyr in time for the a clutch to hatch. He didn't Impress then, but mere months later there was another clutch. And it was from this clutch he met the other half of his soul and heart. His bronze. Sukaidith.

Relationship(s):
Nefri (kinda sorta enamored of his best friend, but not yet able to admit the full depths of his feelings)
Brown flitter - Lemarac

Bronze Sukaidith

User Image

Name: Sukaidith
Age: 4 5 6 Turns
Color: Bronze
Size: 44'

Physical Description: Broad, muscular, with an oversize wingspan.
He is a bronze that comes perilously close to being green, with bands of metallic sparkles, much like stars spiral from head to tail and on the outside of his wings. The inner membranes, not seen often unless in flight are a lighter, truer bronze that have a sparkle pattern that resembles the night sky.

Personality:  For all that he appears to be a large, fearsome beast, Sukai is a very timid, gentle soul that needs careful handling and as much encouragement and approbation from his rider as his rider needs from him.

This unlikely bronze found a kindred spirit in Nadir. A loneliness that matched his need to be needed. Their souls were complementary where they needed to be, but opposite in ways that would force them to become better than they might think they could be, in order to be worthy of each other and their duties to their weyr, and Pern as a whole.

Positive Traits: Patient, Affectionate, Empathic
Negative Traits: Allergic to responsibility, Overprotective, Timid

Faranie of Blue Samedith

Name:  Faranie
Age:  28 29 30 turns
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Polyamorous Bisexual
Craft: Jack-of-all-trades within the weyr, no formal craft or training

Rank: junior weyrling
Location:High Reaches Weyr

Physical Description:Crystal blue eyes and golden hair, Faranie is a beauty. Or would be, if not for the touch of acidity in her glare, the resting b***h-face, and a generally angry, slighted demeanor. She's on the short side for a grown woman, barely 5'7", and that seems to only compound her waspish nature. She never quite gained the curves to make harpers write songs of her beauty, but there is a strength behind her sharp cheekbones and through that sharp, almost sprite-like nose.

She adores fine clothing and jewels, but saves the best for gather days, preferring heartily to keep work and pleasure separate. That means good quality but common clothing most days; dresses when she can, but trousers will do too in a pinch.

Personality:
Faranie is a woman scorned. She grew up the favorite child, the capable child, the better child, but all for naught. Her one dream, to find the dragon meant for her, was denied to her, and she's been seething ever since. She has always had a knack for excelling at everything she does, has always been clever and intelligent enough to understand and master ideas with alacrity. Everything she's tried, she's done well at—except impressing a dragon.

The trouble with always being good at everything is that you don't know how to handle failure, and because it surely couldn't be you, the blame is aimed outwards. Such is the case with Faranie. She, of course, is perfect, so the world's the one that messed up. She holds a grudge close like a lover, unafraid to wait turns and turns for her revenge. She deserves the best, and has no trouble stepping on anyone in her way as she climbs to the peak. While Weyrwoman Faranie has become just a dream (or nightmare) now, there are other ladders to climb, and she has every intention of doing so. She'll gladly play content worker bee...just as long as it takes to find one or two good hands to help crush the queen bee.

Finally, after Turns and Turns of waiting, and being passed over, judged as not good enough, Hers was shelled. And while His hide wasn't the shining gold she always knew would be hers, he was more than enough for her. And yes, Weyrwoman Faranie was completely off the table now, but that didn't mean she was relagated to some position of no power whatsoever. She could still achieve the greatest heights anyone could aspire to. And she sets her eyes beyond the stars, and she and Hers will get what they want.

Positive Trait List: Intelligent, adroit, ambitious.
Negative Trait List: Vindictive, manipulative, cruel.

History:
Faranie was born the younger daughter of a family of riders. Her mother, astride her lightning-swift green, could name her rider ancestry back past the ninth turn. And she was proud of that fact, despite her parents' increasing absence. Raised through her late childhood by her big brother Galavar, she was never quite able to forgive him for joining the ranks of the candidates, a place where she wasn't allowed to go too (for some turns at least). By the time she joined him on the sands, she'd grown bitter, and determined to outdo her brother for abandoning her like their parents had apparently done.

Turns passed, and her delight grew each time Galavar failed to impress. That'd teach him, she thought, for leaving her for no reason at all! But then he'd had the gall to impress a blue, once more leaving her behind. She continued to Stand, and Turns passed, with her failing to Impress each and every time. She grew more and more bitter.

Galavar, now G'ar, was more and more involved with his dragon, leaving her behind completely. An opportunity came up for her to Stand at a different weyr, and she took it, going to High Reaches to stand for a clutch there. She never returned to Monaco and never looked back.

Turns passed at High Reaches, and she's almost all but forgotten her roots in the south. Intentionally ignoring any news from Monaco, and thus unaware of her brother's transfer to Western, she's spent most of her time since plying her craft and eyeing up prominent riders for any chance to find a good stepping stone upwards.

From the time she was old enough, Faranie used her looks and femininity to get her way, if there was no other option, but she was careful and used the different teas that were supposed to prevent pregnancy, allowing her to be carefree and have what lovers she wanted, to remain a candidate, and not have to deal with the consequences. But then... Shortly after she transferred from Monaco to High Reaches, she formed a relationship with a Bronzerider.

It was different than the other relationships she'd had thus far which had only been for fun or advancement on her part, because she actually thought she might fall for him. He was good and kind... too good for her. And whether by accident, or subconcious design, somehow, all the precautions she took failed, and she found herself with child. She ended the relationship, but made sure to inform A'ryx that he was going to be a father, and she had no expectations, and the child would be going to the creche, if he had any desire to know the child.

After the child was born and handed over to the creche, the road back to candidacy was long and hard, but she still wanted to be a dragonrider more than anything, so she devoted herself to the role completely. She did go to the creche, from time to time, when her duties allowed, and tried to be the best mother she knew how, but there were things more important to her than the child. And in fact, there were times she forgot about him, but as he grew older, and after she had aged out, she spent more time with him, but he was yet another reminder of her failure.

At twenty-eight Turns, even though she had aged out and was no longer a candidate, she had still stayed on at the weyr because she had nowhere else to go. She like the other residents of the weyr had been excited about the double clutch, and she attended this hatching as she had every hatching since she was fourteen. But unlike the other hatchings she had attended, this one was different. This time, there was a dragon for her...

Other: - Knowing that she was destined to be Weyrwoman, Faranie never had any interest in training in a craft. But after her first failure, and being determined to stay at the weyr until she Impressed, she started working in the kitchens, fetching and cleaning and doing grunt work. But this was in no way glamorous or a pathway to achieving her goals, so she moved on to other jobs. There was learning to help clean and repair leathers and straps on the riding gear. And then helping out in the infirmary (helping the riders, which fueled her resentment and disdain of those who have achieved what she has not been able to). And whatever other tasks were asked of her.

- She also formed relationships with anyone willing, to try and improve her position, all formed with the knowledge they wouldn't be permanent, and all ended as amicably as possible. She was never careless enough to allow herself to fall in love with any of them, and with the exception of one relationship near the mid/end of her candidacy, none ended with offspring.

- She has one child, a son, 7 8 turns old, by bronze rider A'ryx of Zijianth. (Ryxarin). She was pregnant at 20 Turns, gave birth when she was 21 turns, and immediately handed the infant over to the creche to be cared for. She returned to candidacy afterwards, but the road was long and hard. She aged out at 26 turns.

- For all her cold, cruel, even bitchy demeanor towards other people, she does genuinely care for the dragons. She will even suck up her pride and disdain in order to help others in the upkeep of their dragons. When or if allowed, she enjoys bathing and oiling their scales, polishing them until they gleam. At times, she might even make trinkets for those she is especially fond of.

- Has a blue flit named Winter

Blue Samedith

Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by Uta

Origin of Name: Samedith, from Baron Samedi. Baron Samedi, by his many names, is the Haitian Vodou loa of the Dead. Along with being the loa of the dead, he is also in charge of resurrection. He is called upon when someone is near death to heal the dying one, for it is Baron Samedi who accepts the dead into the afterlife. Known for his salacious behavior and many indulgences, the loa is nevertheless a mighty and powerful figure who commands considerable respect.

Inspiration: Friends On the Other Side - The Prince & the Frog

The character of Dr. Facilier, called the Shadow Man, is a mysterious yet at first seemingly benevolent figure. A witchdoctor who is capable of calling upon the aid of beings from beyond, Dr. Facilier's plans unravel over the course of the film, leading him to go to greater and greater lengths to secure his victory. When ultimately he shows a willingness to kill to get what he wants, he is defeated by Tiana, who smashes the fetish that holds the power to take Prince Navene's form. It is then that Dr. Facilier is dragged to the Other Side by the very beings that he previously courted and called upon.

Personality: Wouldn't you like to make a deal? Samedith is sure that they can work something out that will be amendable for both of them. For, after all, he has quite a bit of experience turning things around to best suit him. Why shouldn't he use such abilities to the benefit of himself and those around him? Especially when the lion's share of the benefit happens to rest firmly within his own claws. Buyer beware, however - Samedith does not hesitate for a moment to go back on a deal if it will save his hide! He is a deceptive creature who has no compunction against tossing another in harm's way should the moment call for it.

This clever, conniving beast has been wise from the first, well able to assess a situation and to work it to his best advantage. One will rarely catch him flatfooted, for indeed he is very quick on those feet! He's quite good at making friends and influencing people, and does not mind going beneath himself for allies if it gets the job done. The job, in case you weren't following, is setting Samedith up in a place of power - specifically, the power behind the throne. He'll be the puppetmaster holding the strings, for holding direct power over the Weyr would leave him far too exposed.

And if there's one thing Samedith won't risk, it's his own precious hide. He is power hungry, to be sure, but he's also a bit of a coward. And, indeed, he does not enjoy getting his own claws dirty. Not when he can convince someone else to do it! After all, was it really poor Samedith's fault that things didn't turn out according to plan? Of course not. He would have executed it all perfectly, if only he had been on the frontlines - but Samedith will never be on the frontlines, not if he has anything to say about it.

Do go on ahead! He's right behind you. And if he happens to be behind you holding his claws in a rather menacing manner, well... he was just practicing. He's terribly good at coming up with excuses for his behavior. What he's not good at is copping to his own frailties. He is perfect, plain and simple, and his plans never have holes in them. Even if there are dragon sized holes he'll never admit to it, and will try to find ways to weasel out of trouble. Speaking of trouble, this dragon is that. One thing that he can always be counted upon is to work to his own best interests, so it would behoove his rider to convince him that the Weyr's best interests are his own.

Positive Traits: Smooth, Persuasive, Powerful, Intelligent
Negative Traits: Power Hungry, Duplicitous, Scheming, Smug

Adult Size: 28'
Physical Attributes: A tall, long blue, Samedith has quite an elegant yet somewhat awkward appearance. He is very slender and lithe, with rather large, broad wings.

Additional Notes: Attracted to power, this blue will be almost certain to fall for the charms of Gold ladies, more often than not. Not that he is incapable of finding enjoyment in any color that happens to cross his path, but he would so love having a Queen within his claws. He is likely to follow in Papa Krah's footsteps, seeing his arrangement as quite ideal.

Theme Song: Friends on the Other Side cover by Jake Turner-Clarkson
Egg: A large purple egg with a green, smoke-like marking upon it. This egg sits near the center of the clutch, and seems very smug.

Why Me? Oh Faranie, Faranie, Faranie. Where does Samedith start talking about your many qualities? They're a picture perfect match, from her icy beauty, to his striking looks... to their shared ambitions. But Weyrwoman Faranie will always be a dream - as this blue is most decidedly not a Golden queen. He is, however, quite a clever beast, and more than capable of achieving greatness, if only she had faith in him. Never mind that, though, as Samedith can and will convince her of their shared destiny. Why have one little Weyr when they could have the world? When they could pull the strings and conspire to hold Pern in their hands - or in his case, claws. Her disappointment at failing to Impress a Queen is not lost on Samedith, but he believes himself to be the better choice.

Lelte

Name: Lelte
Age: 16 17 18 19
Sex: female
Sexual Orientation: Hetero-flexible
Craft: Apprentice designer/tailor
Rank: Candidate
Location: High Reaches

Physical Description:
- short at 5'2”, petite and lithe
- she has no curves or even the suggestion of curves to come when she matures
- long raven-wing black hair messily up in some sort of tail or plait or something just so long as it is kept out of her face
- Large doe-like amber eyes
- Lightly tanned skin, with a smattering of freckles across her pixie-like nose
- She prides herself on a neat clean appearance, though she is far from vain
- Her clothing is of decent quality, in good repair, and designed and made by herself from what materials she can afford or barter for.

Personality: A bright little ray of sunshine, Lelte is kind and sweet, with a perpetual childlike innocence which was encouraged by being the youngest of six and the most gentle in spirit. She was everybody's favorite darling, kept sheltered from the harshest of realities as much as her family and small cothold could. Everything new she experiences and sees tends to fill her with a sense of awe and wonder - Have you ever seen anything so amazing?

Where she was so sheltered and so loved by her family, and by others she met, Lelte doesn't understand these views and can't see herself as anything special. She has a hard time putting herself out there and taking the initiative to meet others, though when approached she is all that is kind and sweet. She genuinely believes that everyone is good – even if they do bad things, they probably had no other recourse. She is easily taken advantage of due to this, and even if it happened once, everyone deserves a second chance... or a third, or fourth.

Positive Trait List: Innocent, Cheerful, Compassionate
Negative Trait List: Naive, Insecure, Shy
History:
Youngest of six (four brothers, one sister), daughter of a small cotholder on an even smaller island, she wasn't suited for the more physical crafts common to her home. And her family wanted to make sure that their bright little ray of sunshine never dimmed, but was also protected.

This originally resulted in her being sent off to the Weaver Hall, where she was found to have particular talent in designing and tailoring clothes. The other apprentices were jealous her sweet temperament, the spark of innate talent, and the interest that the Masters were exhibiting towards her, and they had started with small pranks and such to make her life there difficult and to show she wasn't that great. Pranks that probably would have continued to escalate until she left, they were forced to stop by an outside force, or she grew strong enough to stand up for herself ( which would likely never happen).

She was about a year in to her Apprenticeship when a rider from the High Reaches Weyr came through to rest on their Search for candidates. She happened to be tagged as a potential rider. Her masters (and her family when later notified) strongly encouraged her to accept. She did, with some trepidation.

-currently has two lovely blue flits - Sketch (a rather bite-y, angry little monster) and Palette (as sweet as his bonded)

Tandry T'ry of Blue Cordeth

Name:  Tandry
Age:  20 21 22 Turns
Sex:  male
Sexual Orientation:  unknown
Craft: Trader
Rank: candidate Weyrling
Location: High Reaches

Physical Description:
Standing 5'7” he is shorter than he'd like to be, but then no one in his family is overly tall, so hey, what can he do about it? He has an average build, with just enough muscle from the physical side of his job as a trader. Tandry's skin is a permanent medium tan from life outside and his raven's-wing black hair that is pulled back in a ponytail that hangs to his mid-back. Dark blue eyes that change according to his mood, from the dark blue of the oceans depths to the sky at midnight, are probably his most arresting feature, and the one he is most proud of... though his family would say it is his slow bright smile that is his best feature.

Personality: The middle child in a family of six children, he learned very quickly that fairness and honor are traits to be held and admired... And he does his best to embody those virtues, because you never know when it just might make a difference in someone's life. It was certainly important in his. And now that he is an adult, he finds them to be even more important than when he was younger.

While he gets along well enough with all his siblings, there is something to be said about being an older sibling – being the one to protect and look after those younger than himself. He will always stand up for those who are smaller, weaker than himself, or unable to stand up for themselves, no matter the cost to him.

He is also dependable...if he says he will do something, come hell or high water, no matter the mountains he might have to move, he will do whatever it takes to honor his word. And if he can't for whatever reason – there are just sometimes promises can't be fulfilled no matter what – he always tries to make up for the lack in whatever way he can.

Afflicted by wanderlust, he finds it difficult to stay in any one place for very long, and he feels trapped if forced to stay still. He becomes snappish and irritated, signs that it is past time for him to be back on the road, enjoying the sights and freedoms it carries.

In trying to do everything that is asked of him, Tandry will go out of his way to do whatever he can for others, and he will often forget to take care of himself... Oh, was I supposed to eat? Oops, maybe later I'll get something...

While he is often on the move and unable to form bonds easily, he clings to those he cares about and will do anything to see them happy. As longs as they remain his. When he is around, he wants to be with his family / friends / loved ones all the time, up to the point of being a little smothering.

Positive Trait List Fair, Protective, Dependable
Negative Trait List Wanderlust, Neglects Himself, Clings to those important to him

History:
The third of six children, he is Lelte's favorite brother. another in the family that wasn't necessarily cut out for life in the small cothold, he was Apprenticed to a trader at 13, became a caravan leader at 17, and still remained very close to his family even though he was always travelling. Searched a little after Lelte for the double-clutch at High Reaches Weyr... Uncertain if he will stay if he doesn't Impress. ((OOC'ly he would find the life just interesting enough to stay and see if he can't find a soul similar to his own, that would relish freedom as much as he does...))

-Has green Flit Bazaar

Origin of Name: Cor de la Bryère (1968-2000), nicknamed "Corde", is one of the most influential sires in modern warmblood breeding, particularly among Holsteiners. The strongest asset of the Holsteiner breed is their jumping ability. Even the average Holsteiner usually exhibits great power and scope, and correct technique. The scope and power were inherited from the heavier old Holsteiners, but they lacked carefulness, speed, adjustability, bascule, and technique. Improvement sires like Cor de la Bryére successively eliminated these flaws, making the Holsteiner breed internationally known for Olympic-caliber jumping.

Inspiration: Holsteiner

The Holsteiner is a breed of horse originating in the Schleswig-Holstein region of northern Germany. It is thought to be the oldest of warmblood breeds, tracing back to the 13th century. Though the population is not large, Holsteiners are a dominant force of international show jumping, and are found at the top levels of dressage, combined driving, show hunters, and eventing.

The breeding of this breed began more than seven hundred years ago in the Schleswig-Holstein region, located on the northernmost fringe of Germany. The monks first conducted the organized breeding of these horses in the monasteries of Uetersen, Germany. In fact, they started developing bigger horses that would be suitable to mount on during war as well as suffice the agricultural needs. They gained immense popularity by the sixteenth century, retaining its fame till the eighteenth century.

After the Reformation in the sixteenth century, the task of breeding horse shifted from the monks to the farmers and local authorities, with the German government taking up the responsibilities of these prized pedigrees also assigning a stamm or stem number to each of the mare families for tracking their performance. In fact in 1719, the state had proposed to reward the Holstein farmers breeding the finest stallions. The stallions had to meet certain requirements to qualify for this award like their age should be between four and fifteen, they should be at least 15.2 hands in size and have parented not less than fifteen foals in the last season. The twelve black stallions of this breed had been purchased to lay the foundation of the Celle State Stud in the year 1735.

During the nineteenth century, the breeding of the Holsteiner horses got more improved as the Cleveland Bays and Yorkshire Coach Horses were brought from Britain for the purpose of producing an elegant and fine carriage horse. In 1891, George Ahsbahs, an economic advisor founded the Holsteiner studbook.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the usage of Holsteiner horses underwent a significant change. In the first and second World Wars, there was a high demand for horses that could pull artillery wagons. However, after the World Wars, the population of this breed decreased drastically, with only 1300 Holsteiner mares remaining in 1960. The farmers had also abandoned breeding this breed and the State Stud of Traventhal, established in the nineteenth century, got dissolved. To prevent the Holsteiners from dying out altogether, thirty Holsteiner stallions, along with three thoroughbreds, had been purchased by the Board of Directors of the Federation of Breeders. By 1976, the majority of the Holsteiner stallions were partially or wholly thoroughbred. The newly-developed Holsteiners were agile faster, taller and with a proper jumping style, thus being better than the previous breeds.

In 1978, the American Holsteiner Association was developed to maintain the records and registry of this breed in North America. The Holsteiner Horse Association was also formed in several other countries like Australia and New Zealand, to develop and promote the breeding standards of these horses.

Personality: Cordeth is the sort of blue that fits nicely within High Reaches society, and he prefers it that way. To start, this blue is a very tolerant and compliant dragon--you won't find any judgment in him and he accepts the status quo without nary a complaint. He doesn't mind that he has no position of power, nor is he the sort to grumble about the leadership up top. That said, any dynamic change wouldn't ruffle his feathers either. If a green wanted to boss him around or pick on him, there would be no objections from Cordeth, and he would follow their orders just as willing! He's a tolerant beast, who would no more mind a bunch of Candidates and littles climbing upon him, poking, prodding, and using him as a playmate as he would mind if his clutchmates decided to lay all their woes upon him or use him as a scratching post. He's a very accepting blue, for better and for worse..

Unfortunately, Cordeth's tolerance can easily turn detrimental to his own well-being. There are some who will take advantage of his willingness to accept (seemingly) everything. Pushier or bossier dragons will not hesitate to marshal this blue in whatever way they see fit and won't get any flack from him; additionally, those who wish to use him as a scratching post, or otherwise treat him poorly, would find him a very easy target. Worse, he wouldn't object at all, or call them out on such a thing. Not because he likes the treatment, but because he struggles standing up for himself, and is entirely submissive to stronger personalities. He prefers to be told what to do, and will follow orders as dutifully as any dragon in High Reaches--especially by those of rank. It's easier and simpler to take what he gets than to go against the grain, and dragons with power absolutely intimidate, and sometimes terrify, him.

He is an anxious blue, and those in power (no matter the color) cause him nothing but stress. Metallics in particular terrify him--Zenobiath and Aresoth alone might be the only exceptions to this, but even then, he will always approach them with caution. He is far more comfortable around fellow greens, blues, and browns--but should they ever gain rank, or have particularly aggressive and commanding attitudes, he will immediately melt into a heap of blind-loyalty and fear.

That said, Cordeth knows his duty, and is willing to fight Thread like any blue. He might not always be the first to volunteer, and his rider might need to do a little encouraging to get him going, but once he's in the midst of the battle this blue excels. As a support dragon, Cordeth always knows his place, and takes his orders without fuss. If his Wingleader says jump, he'll ask how high; if a Wingmate is in a jam, he'll be there to save the day. Fighting Thread is one of the times that Cordeth's true colors shine; flaming down the enemy, being a hero, the Weyr will find this blue to be nothing but a gem. He knows what his duty was, and if he must give his life, so be it. This is what blues were hatched to do afterall -- support the Weyr, fight Thread, and ensure Pern gets another day. He might be afraid of those in rank and power, but as part of a cog in the system, this blue excels.

Ever reliable, when Cordeth gives his word, you can bet he will follow it through to the end. Submissive though he might be, he is the sort of dragon who does his best to those he serves and loves. He prefers someone to be in charge, even if they scare him. If there is an expectation placed upon his shoulders, this blue will give it his all. He would never wish to be dubbed a disappointment or need to explain himself to those of real importance and worth. Easily intimidated though, his rider will need to help this blue through when he finds himself at a cross-roads of following through with a task, or being bullied out of it by another.

Positive Traits: Dependable, Dutiful, Accepting
Negative Traits: Anxious, Easily Intimidated, Submissive

Snowman Egg: This medium sized egg feels soft as silk.

Adult Size: 27'
Physical Attributes: Cordeth is average size for a blue dragon. He has powerful hind legs, and will be prone to very strong takeoffs. Leaping from the ground into take off is no issue for this blue. He has a strong neck, broad shoulders, long legs, and is generally considered a handsome blue.

Additional Notes: Cordeth isn't the sort to jump into flights and will only budge from his ledge when there's someone he's absolutely, 100% interested in. He tends to keep his romantic interests quietly tucked away until the time is right--and then, Cordeth will risk it all, for better or for worse. He'll be devoted to the one he loves, even if they're not good for him--so his rider had best make sure he's not falling for any heartbreakers. Additionally, it's not greens or golds that this blue has eyes for, but for blues and browns instead.

He could and would not ever fall for a bronze--too terrified of their presence to be able to truly give them his hearts.

Impression Effect: Tandry will no longer find himself gripped by the wanderlust that has so plagued him. His home is with Cordeth now--and Cordeth's home is High Reaches. While he might still enjoy travelling on a rest-day once they've graduated, he will no longer have the pressing drive or irritability that comes with remaining in one place. Perhaps it's Cordeth's duty driving in the point, but Tandry won't struggle being settled within the Weyrs walls. He found where he belongs--well and truly.

Why Me? Tandry (dawns_aura)

Cordeth needs Tandry like a fish needs water to live. This blue needed someone with strong protective instincts, to help ensure he's able to be comforted, and more importantly, protected! Cordeth will always be an easy target--easily picked on by those who need a target, or easily manipulated by those who might wish to use him. It's not that Cordeth doesn't know what's going on or is oblivious--he just struggles so much to stand up for himself, or to know his own worth.

Someone like Tandry, who is protective, capable, and dependable is exactly who he needs to remind him of his value. Additionally, the fact that the man is known to be clingy to those he loves will only work out for Cordeth. This blue is going to need comfort and reassurance, and having that physical connection, that closeness, will help give Cordeth the confidence he needs to succeed.

On the flipside, Tandry will find that he has no longer a drive to roam--but once they're able to travel, Cordeth will give him the world. Literally. They can go wherever they desire--and should Tandry ever entertain the thought of roaming for too long, his dutiful blue will always help to keep him on task and focused on what's important, and what they need to do. Additionally, Cordeth's dependable and reliable nature will ensure that he's there for Tandry, whatever he needs. Where Tandry is known to put others first, Cordeth will always, always, always think of Tandry. He adores His and will always be there to make sure he's being as cared for, as he cares for others.

Tandry is the best part of Cordeth, as far as this blue is concerned, but Cordeth will unknowingly shine light on the best aspects of Tandry, too. Together, they will make a perfect team.

Melhaika M'ika of Green Pallath

Name:  Melhaika M'ika
Age:  ~19 20 21
Sex:  male
Sexual Orientation: unknown
Craft: … does survivor count?
Rank:
Location: High Reaches Western
Physical Description: Average height, average build with average features and forgettable coloration. Skin neither too dark nor too pale. Medium length, shaggy brown hair that he might have in two thin braids to keep out of his face. Honey brown eyes without any warmth... The only thing that keeps him from being completely forgettable is the fact that half his face is covered in deep burn scars.

Personality:

When there is a goal in front of this young man, there is nothing he won't do in order to achieve it. Whether he needs to beg, borrow, steal, kill... the ends will always justify the means. Because failure is never an option. Once he sets his mind to something, he will stand by it until the goal is complete and a new goal is placed before him.

Having been orphaned young, he learned quickly how to care for himself, and that he didn't need to depend on anyone other than himself. He does everything he can on his own, and won't ask for help unless there is absolutely no other choice.

He is distant, cold and has a very difficult time in groups. He doesn't get along well with others. He has very strong opinions, and is quick to find fault with others. And he will say whatever is on his mind with no regards to the feelings of others. He is quick to anger and will hold onto grudges till the stars fall out of the sky.

With an eye for beauty and detail, and the need to make something to color his very dark, shades of grey life, Melhaika turned to drawing as a way to cope with his circumstances. And to his surprise, he found he is quite good at it. He found that there are those who are willing to pay for portraits and other sketches, and it was a way to survive without resorting to things he might not want to do or would regret. It is an escape and a means of support. A talent that is moderately useful.

Positive Trait List Driven, Independent, Dedicated, Artistic

Negative Trait List Taciturn, Critical, Holds Grudges, Tactless

History:
Orphaned at a very young age, when he and his family were caught in a fire. He was badly burned and almost didn't survive...Other than his parents, he had no family to take him in after the fire and subsequent time spent with Healers. After he was well enough to leave the Healers, Melhaika was placed in an home with others like him, but with his distant, taciturn nature he didn't last long, and he ended up in the streets, doing whatever he had to in order to survive.

He has never been ashamed of his scars, which seemed to grow with him. Even though they might make others around him uncomfortable. He refuses to hide behind a cloak or a mask and will not hide his face. He ended up bumping into a searchrider and whilst trying to get away, the dragon decided he had the potential to become a dragon-rider, so they literally just picked him up and brought him back to High Reaches Weyr. He was going to become a candidate whether he wanted it or not (... not that he would have turned down the opportunity- Faranth, it was a sight better than living on the streets doing whatever it took to survive, but he would have appreciated having a choice in the matter, Thank You Very Much!)

- has two fierce green flits affectionately known as Vee, and Tallie (full names Vengeance and Retaliation)

Green Pallath
Written by houllow
Colored by Smerdle

User Image

Origin of Name: The German naturalist Peter Simon Pallas first described the feline in 1776. It’s only fitting that such a dragon carries his name.

Inspiration: Manul Cat

The Manul cat is about the size and weight of a domesticated feline, though it looks thick and large due to its dense, plush fur. Found primarily in the shrublands and grasslands of Central Asia, it is a unique looking cat due in part to its circular pupils, as opposed to the more common vertical slit, and its wide and low set ears.

Sadly, due to habitat destruction and loss, the Manul has been classified as a Near Threatened species on the IUCN Red List.

Personality: What’s this? No really, what is this? Pallath wants to know exactly what something is and isn’t content to just get the shallows of it. If she asks what it is you better believe everything there is about it needs to be known or else that itch won’t be scratched. It’s not an innate hunger for knowledge about many things that drives this green to wonder about the world around her, but rather a need to always be in the know. Things she learns about that don’t hold her interest can easily be forgotten after all, and there’s never a harm in trying something new at least once or twice. New people are often greeted by her with a basic passing so it’s not hard to consider her a friendly dragon, however that might be all on the surface.

As it stands, Pallath has a nasty habit of speaking under her breath or mocking those around her. If she hears something she doesn’t like, or gets told to do something she doesn’t like, you can bet there’s a running commentary happening. At first her mumblings will be mild and semi-audible, though if not corrected or caught they’ll soon get rougher and louder. No one, including her rider at times, is safe from her biting words and sarcastic nature; it’s not her fault that everyone around her just doesn’t get her. Whatever that means, of course.

Pallath also likes her personal space. Like, a lot. She’d prefer to be left alone if possible save for the company of her rider, but even then it’s fairly obvious she chafes at the company when it drags on too long. Areas that she knows and likes are commonly claimed to belong specifically to Pallath and she’s none too pleased when someone encroaches on that particular space. Being told to share won’t temper down this attitude towards others, though thankfully she’s not too overtly aggressive. Her enjoyment of being alone is bolstered by her ability to do things on her own merit, the green enjoying a sense of independence that allows a certain sort of personal freedom. There’s no need for Pallath to constantly have someone around in order for her to feel safe and secure, and she’s more than willing to make her own choices and follow them through. That said, she will follow orders for the sake and survival of Pern, her rider, and her own hide. She might grumble about it, but even she knows what's at stake. There are times and places to make ones own way, but the thick of Threadfall is not it.

At the end of the day though, Pallath can be considered something of a moody dragon. When not mumbling beneath her breath, or into the mind of her rider, she wears her expressions on her face, in her eyes, and with her wings. The whole of her body is used to tell how she’s feeling, what she’s feeling, so despite the fact the winds may blow different ways several times a day it’s not difficult to get a read on what emotion she’s currently attempting to express. Lies are easily called out, which unfortunately is never a good thing when one is trying to hide something, and being called a liar is absolutely the last thing a dragon like Pallath needs or wants.

Positive Traits: Curious, expressive, independent
Negative Traits: Territorial, mercurial, sarcastic

Blue Cloud Egg: This small egg almost seems to be muttering whenever anyone comes near, but you can't quite make out what it is saying.

Adult Size: 20'
Physical Attributes: Pallath possesses a rather unique appearance, with large canine teeth and short claws. She is thick in her girth and has short, stubby legs that make maneuvering on the ground hard; running will always be difficult and avoided whenever possible.

Despite her thick appearance Pallath is actually rather light and is able to perform quite well when in the air; quick turns will come easier to her than some, with practice of course.

Additional Notes: Pallath absolutely detests the heat and will actively wither throughout the summer months in Western. Though winter is not much better in terms of the cold she’d prefer, Pallath nonetheless will enjoy those brief periods with extreme relish.

Flights for Pallath will be short, angry, and often violent. No one is welcome to share a ledge afterward, so can catching really be called winning?

Impression Effect: Though is seems strange, given Pallath's personality, but Melhaika will find a new touch of softness enter his life. He might always be a bit more aloof, but he need no longer be an island, or so outwardly aggressive. He will find himself better able to tolerate others, especially now that he has Pallath in his life. While she might be an aloof dragon, her love, need, and affection are all still there; as a dragonrider, he will need to bond with her and his fellows. Impression will open that door, from now on and for always.

Why Me: Melhaika (dawns_aura)

There is no one in the world that Pallath loves more than Melhaika. While this green would likely never outwardly say such a thing, Melhaika will know it, the moment this green locks eyes with him. She doesn't need to be saccharine sweet, or full of praise; but the fact that she chose him, above anyone else, means that he was The One for her. Her devotion to him is unwavering, and even though she might grumble or grouse, she will not hesitate to tear down the stars if he asked it. When he needs to fall upon someone, or break, Pallath will be his rock of unwavering support. On the flip side, Pallath knows that Melhaika will know when to give her space, and when she needs his love, affection, and softness. Neither rider nor dragon can live without the other, and Pallath, though rarely soft, is not made of stone, either.

Life has been difficult for Melhaika, but Pallath is here to ensure he never need walk a lonely road again. Even if he never admitted to being lonely or without, he now has a constant source of support. These two might be an aloof, and somewhat sharp pair, but they are still dragonriders of Pern. Melhaika is now part of a system; and where his physical needs, like food, lodging, and marks are taken care of by the Weyr, Pallath will now give him emotional support that he might not have known he lacked. On the flipside, if Pallath is feeling particularly obstinate or independent, or attempts to go her own way, Melhaika's dedicated an driven nature will help keep her in line and on task. They have a role to play, after all, and it was a role she was hatched to fill, and he had agreed to by becoming a Candidate.

They will never be soft, but they are equals, and their bond is one of snark, respect, and mutual understanding and acceptance.

Melisandae of Blue Zerouth

User Image
Name: Melisandae
Age:  28 Turns
Sex:  female
Sexual Orientation:  it's a mystery
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank:  wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: kitchen assistant

Physical Description:
5'3" tall, vertically challenged and stocky - muscle, not fat - Melisandae is fairly average in appearance. Her skin is the ruddy tan of one who lives outside in the wind and sun and elements. With coppery auburn hair chopped so it brushes her shoulders, with shaggy bangs, and hair that frames a rather round face. eyes of a muddy green and with no special shine glow or anything other than a sharp intelligence that make them other than ordinary. She has a small pert nose that is turned up at the tip.

Sturdy, comfortable and practical are her by-word when it comes to her wardrobe. All is functional and weather appropriate and wearable for work. She is no-frills and no nonsense, but she will dress up - in dresses even - for feasts and festivals, though she isn't one to enjoy it. She favors earth tones, and colors that don't show mess and fabrics and materials that are easy to mend, clean and care for.

Personality:
A kitchen worker from the time she was old enough to help out, Melisandae was never afraid of hard work. Working hard allows one to achieve a great many things and will lead to a comfortable, stable life, so she believes, and so far, it has proven to be true, as she has a place in the weyr, four walls and a roof over her head, and three square meals a day... and that was before Zerouth came into her life. Since him, she has also gained more than she ever thought possible.

If she is given a task, no matter how big or small, nor what it takes, you can always, always count on Melisandae completing it (to the very best of her abilities, as it isn't worth doing anything unless you are prepared to give it your all). She is there on time, in her place, and doing what is expected when
it is required. Unless there is some disaster or catastrophe preventing her.

There isn't always just one way to solve a problem, to create something, to make it through a certain situation to a desired outcome. There are countless means and methods, and Melisandae is sure to know (and have tried, theoretically if nothing else) at least a dozen ways if not more. She knows what the desired outcome is, and enough ways to make her way there, even should unexpected circumstances crop up. She is quick to learn and adapt and do anything to achieve results, even if the methods might seem unusual or unorthodox.

Once she has made up her mind about a position, she is unyielding. Holding to her opinions and ideas with an unmoveable stubbornness. She strongly believes in rules, and that there is no way or circumstance in which breaking them is acceptable. She would break before she would bend.

She has a very black and white view of the world. Black is black, white is white and there is nothing in between. And she is quick to catagorise those she meets and actions they take as right or good and wrong or bad. And she is strict in her interpretations, and deliberate in how she reacts to both sides

Once anything captures her attention, she will persue it until the end conclusion and to the exclusion of anything and everything else.

Positive Trait List: Hardworking, Dependable,Resourceful
Negative Trait List: Unyielding, Judgmental, Tunnel-visioned

History:
Contrary to what others might believe or want or dream, Melisandae had never wanted to be a rider. She was the daughter of two riders who had only gotten together in the lust and haze of a Goldflight. She was dropped off in the creche, and raised there. When she was old enough to work, she found herself helping out in the kitchens. There was nothing quite as satisfying as preparing good food and having it be enjoyed. She was content in the kitchens, never wanting anything more.

Then she turned 14. She was helping out with the Hatching, ferrying the meat from the kitchens to the tables, making sure there was enough for all the dragonets and the new riders. She hadn't been paying much attention at one point, carrying yet another load, because it looked like they were running a little low, and that was not to be borne, when IT happened.

She had bumped into someone - or rather something - and was knocked back onto her butt in the Sands. Fortunately she didn't drop too much, but as she got up, prepared to rip whoever the clumsy person who tripped her up a new one, she met the swirling rainbow eyes of a lovely blue. She knew what that meant, and she was terrified. No, no, no this just couldn't be happening! This was never meant to happen. Not to her she didn't want to be a rider. She was meant to be happy working in the kitchen and having a safe, stable comfortable life.

Then Zerouth spoke her name and called her His, and she knew her neat orderly life would never be the same again. And once she got through that first year, with all the chores, and classes, and the hard work... well, while in her dreams she might think fondly of her neat, stable, comfortable life, nothing she had wanted could compare with the excitement of being a rider, and the absolute and unconditional adoration of Her dearest Blue.

Average in every way as a rider, but she and Zerouth are dependable and work hard. They aren't as social as some, but they don't go out of their way to completely avoid others. When it comes to relationships, neither Melisandae nor Zerouth have found the one (or ones) that have been able to claim their hearts, not that they've looked overly hard...

Blue Zerouth
User Image

DRAGON
Name: Zerouth
Age:  13 turns
Color:  Blue
Size: 32'

Physical Description:
Medium blue hide with darker blue speckling, neither the dullest nor most flashy out there, like his rider, he content to be seen as average or forgettable
He is blessed ( or cursed) with wide wings with strong muscular limbs, broad chest, and long thick neck.

Personality:
A gentle giant with a heart of gold, his head fairly consistantly up in the clouds, which is a great part of the reason he is well-matched to His. She keeps him focused, and curbs the worst of his flights of fancy, or offers him direction when he needs it. And he helps to soften her many rough edges, and brings forth her kindness and compassion that might not be seen otherwise. He is in a way lazy, only putting forth the bare minimum of effort when it comes to work and drills, but when it comes to actual Threadfall, and keeping himself and His safe, he will do whatever it takes. He has a difficult time with copping to failure. He is a bright personality, quick to gather attention to himself when he and his are actually out with others and being social, which admittedly isn't overly often, and while he would enjoy far more interaction than Melisandae, he respects her limitations and is happy enough with what she allows them.

D'vian of Green Rapifirth
Name: D'vian (previously Androvarian)
Age: 30 31 turns
Sex:  male
Sexual Orientation: it's a mystery
Weyr: Western
Rider Rank:  wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: unknown...

Physical Description:
Athletic, with broad shoulders and chest tapering to strong trim legs. He is more a runner/swimmer
than weightlifter / blacksmith. Standing a respectable 6'2”. His features are pleasant and regular, though nothing spectacular. He has slightly shaggy black hair that brushes the top of his shoulders and a bit of facial scruff... not enough to call a beard or mustache though, which he keeps trimmed and well-groomed. His eyes are a medium gray, with long thick black lashes that are enough to cause many females envy. He dresses neat and clean, but not anything to make him stand out. Clean and comfortable for work is the name of the game... though he isn't above wearing something nice for gathers, feasts, and other occasions.

Personality:
D'vian can't seem to sit still. He must always have a task to occupy his hands and mind. Always needs a goal to work towards, a way to help the weyr that took him in and gave him his soulmate, to help said soulmate, or to help others... not generally or necessarily in that order. Even if the goal or task is just something as small as fixing his gear or leathers so they are and appear perfect, or oiling Rapifirth's hide so she gleams. He works hard and does his part for the weyr and to maintain this standard of life he has grown fond of.

When he isn't working, in the silence and stillness, he finds himself insecure. Full of doubts. Is he good enough to be a rider? Does he even belong here? He tries to cover up the doubts in trying to please others, even if he is always second-guessing everything and filled with the agony of indecision about everything...

In spite of his hardworking nature, or perhaps in part because of it, D'vian is quite...oblivious... and has the tendency to be blind to emotions and social cues. He is quite literal and takes things at face value, until he is beat over the head with subtleties and complexities... sometimes this even is an actual physical event, where he has the information beaten into his skull. This nature makes him gullible and easily taken advantage of or manipulated... if not for his green. She makes sure no such thing happens, unless it is for the good of Hers or if it is of benefit to herself. But even she isn't perfect ( no matter her claims to the contrary) and there have been times when they have been manipulated and taken advantage of, but they lived through it, survived and became better for it.

He often speaks without thinking and rarely takes the time or effort to censor what he thinks. Combined with his obliviousness, this leads others to think he is is flippant or uncaring, when truly that is usually the last thing he means. He simply says whatever he thinks or feels without thinking about how it might seem to others...

But then, life isn't easy, a fact he knows all too well. The only way to not only survive, but also to thrive, is to be willing and able to adapt. That was a hard lesson for him to learn, but one he learned and learned well... And that is how he ended up where he is. From being an orphan in a small hold ravaged by Thread, to dragonrider. Over the Turns his life has taken many strange and unexpected twists, but he has adapted to each and every one. They have all made him stronger and the person he is now. He has not only survived but thrived.

Positive Trait List Hardworking, Adaptable, Dedicated
Negative Trait List Oblivious, Tactless, Insecure

History:

Born to a poor family in a very small, poor holding, he lost his parents at a very young age to sickness... sickness that shouldn't have been fatal, but for the fact they had no money for treatment nor the means to get to a healer anywhere. His story was hardly uncommon in their hold. The holder did his best to take care of those under his purview, but there was only so much he could do. But he had succeeded in setting up a shelter for orphans to live in, and a cook who would take any leftovers that any could spare and turn it into one meal a day for these children. Enough to give them strength to go out and try to find work. Some way to make themselves useful and earn any other food or hand-outs.

As soon as he was big enough and strong enough to do simple labor in the mines, it was to the mines he went. It was how he earned his food and clothes. It was a hard life. But he was able to get by. But while he was deep within the earth, he longed to be free underneath the sky. Though had he his wish, he would not have survived when Thread returned. It was because he was deep within the mines that he wasn't killed with so many who were outside and unprepared when the Thread fell from the sky and all but demolished the entire Holding.

When he was 16, a roaming searchrider had flown over the Hold and landed. Amongst the survivors, the rider found four youngsters to bring back with him the Western Weyr. Androvarian was one. He became a candidate and Stood at several Hatchings over the next two Turns when finally She Hatched and Claimed him. His lovely Green. Rapifirth.

As a weyrling he was not much above average. He did his work and did it well, nothing too special or to write home about. He wasn't one to do much to stand out or cause drama. He graduated near the center of his class, not a trouble maker nor stand out. Tapped into his wing, he wasn't elated or disappointed. He does his job and does it well... And he can often be found working on drills whether on ground or in the air. Keeping fit and fighting ready.

Physical Description: Though she is on the small side for one of her color, fine boned and elegant, almost dainty even... none of these words are used to describe Rapifirth. This fierce little beauty is too fierce and sharp for the labels to stick- From her teeth and claws, to the spikes on her back and the shape of her wing sails, to her tongue and the harshness she treats all except Hers to... She is remarkably agile in flight, and with good speed, but she has rather low stamina.

Personality:

Rapifirth was bred and born to fight Thread. To be a hero and to protect all of Pern. Or so she often claims. And not without valid reason. She is a green who can twist and turn to avoid being singed by Thread, is fast enough and with enough maneuverabilty to catch and burn those patches of Thread that others might miss. And she won't stop until her stamina runs out, her hearts burst, or there is no more Thread... unless Hers is able to talk her down, but like her, he is determined to do all he can.

This small green is quite fetching and she knows it. And she quite expects others to acknowledge this fact, verbally and often, even if their opinions don't really mean that much to her. The only opinion that truly matters to her is her beloved rider's and thankfully, he is all too happy to offer her all the praise, compliments and adoration she could want.

When not in the air doing drills, practicing maneuvers or fighting Thread, she expects to be kept well-oiled and immaculate, a chore that is anything but to D'vian, so long as there is no other pressing work that he might be required to handle.

While not exactly the most sociable of dragons, she can be friendly enough... but then she can go from being friendly to ready to tear your face off within the space of a breath. She is quick-tempered and volatile. It is difficult to know just what will set her off... though two subjects that are almost guaranteed to do so, faster than just about anything, are the attitude that whites and chromatics are nothing more than thread fodder, or any disparaging remarks, or anything that might even be in any way interpreted as such, about Hers.

Velara

Name: Velara
Age: 18 turns
Nameday: 3557.05.08
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: unknown
Weyr: Western Weyr
Craft: dragonhealer
Rank: apprentice

Physical Description: On the shorter side, standing 5'4", Velara is a hefty girl. Not fat, but muscular, surprisingly so, with long legs, smaller waist and broad shoulders that make her appear more suited to a life of hard-work and heavy-labor, moreso than the sometimes delicate art that is dragonhealing. But it simply means that she has the strength necessary to deal with her patients.

With a caramel skintone with a clear complexion, long raven's-wing black hair that is usually pulled back in a no-nonsense ponytail, and honey brown eyes, she could be considered to be a beautiful young woman, if not for the severe set of her features, and her straight, proud bearing.

Personality:
Knowing what needs to be done, and how, in healing as in her life, Velara is precise and deliberate in her actions, economical. Doing things well, with the least amount of effort and steps. She is comfortable in her skin and in herself.

Working with those who are injured or ill - both human and dragon - one must sometimes be able and willing to wait until they are ready to be helped, and sometimes it is hard work, taking large amounts of effort and focus and time.

She has ample stores of patience and a willingness to give all of the above and more. She hates to see anyone or anything ill or in pain. She will do anything she can - focusing on whats in front of her to the exclusion of all else. She pours everything she has into others, at times neglecting herself in the process.

While she is a kind and caring person, she is distant, unwilling or perhaps unable to connect to anyone on any level beyond the superficial. She tends to be quite literal not understanding subtleties and complexities, taking everyone at their word. She doesn't want to see hurt or pain in anyone, and will do what she, but as soon as she's done, it's on to the next, and the next after that, and so on...

Positive Trait List: Capable, Efficient, Patient
Negative Trait List: Literal, Distant, Tunnel-visioned

History:
Born to an aged out candidate turned weyrhealer and a bronze rider who was never really able to settle down - he shared his weyr with Velara and her mother, but he often hopped in and out of others beds and weyrs. She grew up knowing she was loved by both parents, even if they had fallen out of love with each other, if they ever really loved each other in the first place.

From the time she was big enough to help carry supplies, and not drop them or cause any accidents, her mother brought her to the infirmary, and she quickly made herself useful. She found herself intrigued by the hows and the whys and watching those who were sick become well, and those who were injured become whole. She had a direction, and a purpose in life. She wanted to become a healer, just like her mom. But she didn't care so much for the humans as the dragons. So as soon as she could, she apprenticed herself to a higher ranking dragonhealer.

When she turned 15 she decided she would like to also be a rider, like her dad, and like her mom wanted to be....
