Name: K’der (Formerly Keralder)
Age: 30
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual, Demiromantic
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Greenrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Tanner
Physical Description: There’s something about K’der that always looks hungry and somehow whittled down to the bare minimum. Sharp cheekbones and eyes so dark brown as to be nearly black match with his narrow nose and thin smile (often sarcastic looking even when he doesn’t mean it to be) to make him look like a collection of edges strapped to a starved feline. His version of a resting expression, unless he’s deliberately putting on a show seems to be ‘condescending smugness’, especially when he’s conversing with his dragon.
His hair is black, and mostly straight
Personality: K’der is not dumb… oh heaven knows he’ll pretend to be, if he thinks it will get someone to treat him like the furniture and mayyyybe say more than they should within his ear shot, but unless he has a specific end goal, he finds this an challenging facade to maintain, and tends to revert to being more than a little bit of a problem personality. Draw a line in the sand and K’der, flip a coin to find out, will either mind it, or stick his toe -just- the other side, or directly on that line -just- to see what will happen, then behave himself just long enough to create the illusion that maybe he’s learned something from getting in trouble. AGAIN. Frustrating, he’s not unskilled, he’s just a troublemaker, one with a sharp eye for detail and behavior patterns… and a fragile ego tied directly to an sharp tongue. He’ll cheerfully make self deprecating jokes, but Faranth NO, you’re not supposed to AGREE with him. Take that back or he’ll salt your Klah until you die of old age. Too much?
Obviously he was just kidding. OBVIOUSLY. But seriously watch your Klah.
He’s a devoted defender of the low ranking, Green Riders and down, though candidates who might find him a sympathetic ear and even a refugee when they need a break might find themselves viewed rather differently if they impress a higher ranked dragon, -especially- a metallic, and it will be hard to convince him that he can still trust them. Equally he loves children, and surprisingly Ysengreth doesn’t seem to mind them either, the irritable, distinctly ungentle green holding quite still and letting small children poke and prod with a tolerance she’ll never display elsewhere.
K’der, in all honesty probably doesn’t belong at High Reaches. If actually forced to admit it, he’d trash half the place and leave in a heartbeat if he weren’t so stubborn as to be convinced somehow he, of all greenriders, will make the slightest impression on the place. He wants to be a good rider, or keeps telling himself he does, but it’s damned hard to keep taking orders and not just… do what he thinks is the better option, but feels if he leaves, transfers, or just abandons the place, he’ll just be proving right everyone who's ever looked down their nose at him, and leaving people who need him behind.

Negative Trait List Insecure, Egotistical, Rebellious
History: The illegitimate son of a poor holder, K’der, formerly Keralder, has no idea who his father was and doesn’t much care, or at least he goes out of his way to protest firmly (and maybe more frequently than he should) that he doesn’t care about that or… several other things about which he’s actually rather passionate. Growing up he foresaw very few prospects for himself if he wasn’t able to be cunning and even a degree ruthless, and became fascinated with Haperers and things that involved acting. His actual craft training was focused on working with a local tanner, a combination of unknown favors from his mother and Keralder’s quick hands and patient study of how to efficiently take the hide of an animal. (A skill with knives he maintains on the side when he can, and has sharpened in his time learning to butcher for his dragon as she was growing.
He quickly concluded that -acting- could get him fairly far with those of higher rank than he was, and in particular, acting dumb and submissive was an excellent way to be treated like the furniture and learn things. Exciting things, things that might ideally give him power over his situation… and he was even making plans to use gathered secrets to get ahead when, unexpectedly, he was searched, and his mother, desperate to see her Son escape their status, all but shoved him out the door.
Whatever expectations of glory and status he might have had on being searched however were quickly lost to the exhausting work of being a candidate at High Reaches, and a close up study of the power structure, which he saw as very little different from the division between rich and poor.
His situation did not improve, in terms of status, when Ysengreth hatched, red eyed and gangly on the sands, her first contact with him a strange and exhilarating combination of adoration such as he’d never felt before (or since) and rage at the system that told them both that they were in any way -less-. She was an awkward baby as well, with unusually long head knobs and wings she was constantly nearly tripping over, making a constant fight until she grew into her limbs to keep her from tearing her own wing-membranes, but the first time she was able to take to the air…
K’der, if asked, doubts there has been or will be a dragon so full of speed and fury, almost able to bite her own tail in a sharp loop… without him on board at least, lest he come dismounted. Not that he’d stop her from trying to do so in a pinch. His trust in Ysengreth and hers in him is so absolute that they refer to each other as “My Love”, and K’der would in all faith confidently throw himself from her back and expect her to be able to catch him again if she needed to. Not that they’ve ever actually tried, but if absolutely pressed, they might admit to discussing it.
