Eva Denman

"I don't want to hear another word on it. You're getting checked out, and that's final." The snap of her voice nearly matched the sharp sound of her heels on pavement. An hour till midnight and she was ushering her boyfriend into the waiting room of The Center. It was quiet, suitable for a quick check up. He'd been overworking himself. Even just getting him to eat was at times a challenge. Not to mention she'd at times spot bruises and cuts on him... Eva bit her lower lip and motioned for the lawyer to sit in one of the waiting room chairs while she spoke to a nurse and collected the necessary paperwork for him to fill out--or her, if he was going to be so stuborn about it.

Taking a seat beside him and crossing her legs at the knees, the pink-haired woman pulled her coat tighter around her shoulders. A number of people were already there, a child even she noted with a slight slump of her shoulders, and she sucked in a small breath when she registered a rather... bloody and far more severely injured man there. Immediately she reached for Tobias' arm, gripping it as she averted her gaze. "The... the nurse said it would be a while before you could be seen. There are... more immediate cases," she said softly, having to clear her throat once or twice to get the delicate words out. Yet her gaze sharpened as she eyed the paperwork attached to the clipboard she'd handed him. "Don't think that gets you off the hook."

Whilst Briar hadn't exactly been enthusiastic about coming, Raleigh had been kind of persistent about going–

And whilst he wouldn't have bothered going if it was just him, it wasn't just him - and because of that he probably would have gone along anyway, even if Raleigh
hadn't asked him to come along with her.

Not that it was something that Briar would admit to - at least not out loud - his reddish eyes turning away from his perusal of the seats as he nodded at her words.

"Yes" he said, because it was super busy, nodding again as she suggested that he find them some seats "And m'okay."

Briar wasn't sure if Raleigh had heard him however, since she had suited actions to words and was already walking towards the front desk, but he had managed to find a pair of seats eventually - and ones that were next to each other even and gave Raleigh a quick wave as she walked over from the desk.

His eyes had drifted over automatically as she pointed out a man who–

Who was covered in blood and what appeared to be vomit, although another man walking over had blocked his direct line of vision.

"Yes" he agreed, because whilst Briar still wasn't convinced that he needed to be there (and was only there because of Raleigh), it was clear that the man his friend had pointed out absolutely did - even from just the brief glimpse that he had managed–

And whilst he was hoping that they wouldn't be stuck here long, just looking at all the others around them was enough to suggest that he probably wasn't going to be getting his wish.

Cassiopeia Lyons

[Text to Twin: Dude, I ******** hate it here. It's boring and too quite and it smells weird.

How much longer do I have to stay here?]

Cassie had sent the text with a heavy sigh before letting her hands and phone drop back to the blankets draped over her lap. It was late, Caspian was probably already asleep. She could have spammed him until he hopefully woke up, but that seemed cruel. Which she wasn't against, with him, but she wasn't entirely sure she had the energy for it at the moment. Just because she was suffering didn't mean he had to be, but it would have made her feel just a little bit better.

Petty, but what were twins for?

Maybe He and Micheal could stop by tomorrow, hang out for a while before or after either of them had to be at work. She glanced down at her phone, ready to ask, but decided that could wait until the morning.

So with a self indulgent groan she sank back against the pillows and thumbed back to the game she'd been playing a couple of hours ago. Something mindless and easy to keep her occupied until she was just too exhausted to keep her eyes open. It was important not to let her mind wander much, it always seemed to circle back to the look of murderous rage in the knight's demented face.

Sadie Avamir

Sadie entered the alone hospital with soft steps, as silent as a ghost. She did not look like herself, not quite. Her clothes were baggy, her hair was down and fell in a mass of whispy curls around her. Her voice at the front desk was almost whisper soft, and as she turned to find a place on the crowded benches, she was careful to arrange that hair over the left side of her face, where a white gauzy medical patch stretched across her wounded eye socket.

The wounded socket, which, over the last few days had began to burn and sting again. It had been a month. It was not supposed to be like this, she knew. And she did not want things to get worse, so she had left her house, one side of her better judgement fighting with the other.

She did not like the stares, she decided. She did not like being a symbol of pain.

Yet, as she found a bench and worked to curl up her tall frame into something as small and unobtrusive as possible, she found that she became the starer. There was little to do here but to people-watch people at their worst, and the man who appeared to be bleeding out through his face brought a a twist to Sadie's stomach. A terrible, familiar twist, and that was before she saw Ignacio of all people huddled by a bruised girl. That was someone she'd been dreading seeing, and especially, especially not like this.

She made sure her bad side was to the wall and pulled out her phone.

The snark was met with a tight lipped, narrow-eyed look from the man sitting beside her on the table, but he couldn't exactly argue with her. He'd been rough on the gash, hadn't watched it like he should have, hadn't cleaned it like he should have. Otto sighed, slouching down another couple of inches.

At least Rory wasn't here to fret over him as well. She already worried about him far more than she needed to, and he wasn't in a hurry to be more of a burden to her. Especially not when it was him that should have been taking care of her.

The flip side to Des making him come here was that she was here with him, and she was the best distraction he knew of. Her lips brushed the back of his hand and he tipped his head against the wall to look at her, lips tugging up on one side in a small smile, then a wider one as she made promises of rewards. "Not one of those sugar free abominations, right?"

Jacqueline "Jack" Maaz

Well she'd thought she was alright after the whole theater thing, but weeks later and the headache lingered. Worse than that, the nausea and the dizziness that seemed to come and go in waves depending on how much she exerted herself.

Patrolling had been next to impossible, but if Jack were being honest with herself that was alright. Before that night things had been easier, or maybe she'd just gotten lucky up to that point. Jack wasn't entirely sure which, and she was a bit hesitant to ask the few people she knew who could give her the best insight. She didn't want them to know she was having trouble.

She didn't want them to know how shaken she'd been by the fight at the theater.

But she'd almost died. Maybe as a senshi that wasn't that strange, but...Jack didn't want to die. Legs crossed, hair pulled back in a thick, loose side braid, the girl sat in a chair in the clinic waiting room trying to take up as little space as possible. She had a hand up, curled knuckle worried between her teeth as she tried not to imagine why she'd still be feeling this awful weeks after being knocked out by that corrupt senshi.

Her other hand was curled around her phone, thumb running back and forth along the side of it. There was a game of solitaire sitting open on the screen, but she hadn't touched it in a little while. Too preoccupied by her worries.

Stormy Ortega (DMS Loreley of Lamentation)

There was a girl already there, not quite on the seats, but rather on the ground, seemingly asleep and certainly looking like she needed it: there was at least one green bruise visible on her knee, with several fresher ones nearby. Maybe she had a best friend who had introduced her to the idea of naps. Too bad she seemed to have terrible timing. And too bad naps didn't exactly heal you up like magic could. Technically speaking, Stormy didn't need to visit the doctor: this was just a handy stop for her wraith, who had vacated the premise via the mirror in the bathroom. And now, she had earned a short rest. Maybe.

Her eyelids fluttered ever so slightly.

Blythe Clemmons (Lt. Edenite)

It was late to get a flu shot, but that was fine. This was fine. It wasn't all going according to her scheduling but, Blythe could assure you, it was fine because it was important to get the vaccine early. Far earlier than most advertisements went up showcasing it. She couldn't afford to get sick. Perhaps while she was there, she could double check on her other vaccinations, just in case. God knew Penikisite probably had rabies. She'd need to schedule him a visit to the vet sometime.

But on top of everything else, it seemed everyone in the tri-block area had decided to go to the hospital at the exact same time. And oh good! It looked like a gang fight had been broken up! Or perhaps she was going to settle herself among would-be terrorists and mirror puppets. Or co-workers, she supposed, but with the way everything was going, they were more likely to be the first two. Fantastic. Now she had to sit and wait among probable degenerates after having everything decidedly not following the schedule.

Blythe sighed, pulled out her phone, and began determinedly ignoring everyone in the waiting room.

Richard Bell

Richard watched the two of them argue, not having any desire to get in the middle of it. It'd been bad enough when Ignacio had called across the room to him, saying that they needed to take Raina to the hospital now. That had not been a drop of his heart that he'd needed. Given the past few weeks, Richard had half-expected to get there and find Raina, well, bleeding everywhere. On fire, maybe. He'd been relieved, admittedly, to find that neither was the case.

He wasn't sure how much he could take of the smell of burning flesh. He'd pretty much exceeded his limit the very first time, if he was honest.

"Raina." His voice was quiet, trying to keep discreet in the busy clinic. "I know you're better than you were, but there could still be a micro-fracture in your skull somewhere leaking cerebrospinal fluid, or something like that." That could certainly build up over time, and the last thing any of them needed was her skull sinus filling with fluid that wasn't supposed to be there, compressing her brain. For the hundredth time, Richard leaned down just enough to look at her eyes, checking pupil size, checking that they responded to changes in light, checking that they responded. "I know you're bored. We could have probably brought you something to do, but if you want you can play on my phone, or something, if yours isn't working."

Honestly, Richard wasn't upset at her complaining itself. As long as she was talking, he could listen for slurred words, repeating herself, or even abrupt stops. All of those were possible signs of anything from a seizure to passing out. It was uncommon, but definitely far from impossible, for someone with head trauma to develop seizures days later after the initial event. As the brain recovered, things got crossed on occasion, or swelling went down in one place that started a faulty connection in another, that sort of thing.

Either way, Richard was perfectly fine keeping her talking, even if it was her complaining the whole time.

Rhys Autenberry Hitchcock

He put his free hand up (still bloody, still bloody) and gently rubbed at Hitch's back, between his shoulder blades, resisting the strong urge to cry out, because to do so would get them both nowhere. Rhys wanted, desperately, painfully, to alleviate some of his husband's agony - to do something, because sitting here felt useless and frustrating and terrible in a way he couldn't quite explain.

And there was also - quite uncharacteristically - anger.

Rhys did not get angry. He got anxious; upset; depressed. He did not know how to be angry, except the anger was there, rising up in his throat without him even knowing it, without him realizing the full extent of this strange emotion before it was too late, and the pulse that flashed across his eyes was startling.

Who dares do this to my husband?

He wanted to ask. He wanted to...he didn't know. Do something. Find out who it was and...

He hadn't quite gotten that far yet. Rhys sucked in another sharp breath and tried to suppress the emotions tangled up inside of him, focusing on the man beside him, because that was the important thing; Hitch was the most important thing in this entire room.

"Soon," he promised, even though he didn't know if that was true. He glanced sideways at the little girl again, then flicked his green eyes up as footsteps drew nearer, though it wasn't a doctor. It was an unfamiliar man, looking down at Hitch with concern and surprise - and perhaps a little fear as well, maybe because Hitch looked...well.

Rhys still wasn't thinking about it. He gripped his husband's hand tightly.

"He - he's going to be all right," he said, the accent a little wobbly. "Are you a - a friend of Logan's?"

A passing nurse leans over the possibly sleeping girl, touching a hand gently to her shoulder.

"Are you all right, dear?" she asks, and smiles warmly - though a peculiar feeling of tiredness seems to sweep over Stormy. "Make sure you sign in, okay honey?"

She pats Stormy's shoulder gently and continues on.

In the reflection of her phone's screen, Jack can see a slight movement to her right; a tired looking man is being led back behind the doors that lead to the rest of the hospital, a nurse guiding him. He seems relatively weary; he needs assistance to keep going, nearly tripping over his own feet.

Something flickers out of the corner of Briar and Raleigh's eyes, over near the front counter. It looks like a strange shadow, but a second glance reveals nothing there. Maybe you're just imagining things...

As a side door opens behind the counter, Eva can see two people behind it who appear to be arguing. The word " - plan" can be heard before the door swings shut again and the people and their conversation disappear once more.

As Richard, Ignacio, and Raina all discuss their options, they can hear a strange ticking sound coming from the front counter. If they turn and look, they can see one of the nurses fumbling with something out of sight - a second glance, however, shows her sitting there placidly once more. They must have just imagined it.

Right?
