As the music started and the play started everything seemed to be going well, normal, there was nothing unexpected...at least for those who knew he play. Anyone who had seen Wicked before wouldn't be too surprised, it was as it should be. The actors were good, perhaps even better tonight because they had a lot of emotions flowing.

As the play drew on, slowly to some and quickly to others, some people drifted in and out to the bathrooms or to the entrance to get a needed drink. For the most part it was all normal, not just as far as the play went.

The story went one telling the tale of poor Elphaba, the wicked witch everyone knew from The Wizard of Oz, and how she would become who everyone had seen on tv, at some point, as a child.

Half way through Act I and it was obvious the wicked witch, from the old movie most of them had seen at least once, was not so wicked after all. She had been bullied, pushed aside, and had tried to stand up for those who were deemed lesser. She was more of a hero than the supposed good witch Glinda. It was, to those who didn't know Wicked, a bit of an eye opener perhaps.

Ayesha Kamjik | Sailor Pavo

"No," she returned quietly, "I'm not much of a play person." Plays required a measure of time and investment she often couldn't afford, and when she could, she spent that time on other projects. Dinner dates, lounging at home, and exercising outside each took precedent over something so expensive and one-sided as a play. Especially one based off a book, which Ayesha thought was essentially every play but for the most classic ones.

She sat back in her seat nonetheless and traced senseless designs on her hand while she waited for the show to begin. She wasn't sure what she had been expecting initially — maybe that the play would follow a plot like Hamlet, which was the only play she could remember — but she found it associated to the familiarity of the Wizard of Oz. Her interest in it dwindled as the play tried to excuse the wicked witch of the west and her choices in the latter Wizard of Oz by claiming a series of terrible life events. More and more often she'd look at her nails, debate on whether she could pull her phone without disturbing too much of the audience. What was the point in making this witch someone relatable? Was this play trying to encourage identification with all types, or excuse people who made harmful life decisions because they had a rough start?

Prior circumstances didn't excuse anything. What was done was done, right? Just like her engagement.

Just like her attempts to forget about said engagement by watching a play. She should've found a different way to spend her evening — skydiving lessons or something similar.

Leaning over, she asked another question of her neighbor. "Are we supposed to feel for her?"

Arian Laith // Eternal Sailor Athene

A second bout of of irritated grumbling drew Arian's attention away from the stage as those next to him stood up.

Another latecomer it seemed - just as he himself had been.

It was too dark to really focus on the figure making his way down the row, but Arian gave him a small but sympathetic smile as the man slipped past him and into the last remaining empty seat next to him.

"It's o.." he started, keeping his voice deliberately quiet as the show had started and he didn't want to draw any irritated 'shushes' his way from those seated around him, but then his voice tailed off as the rest of the other's words caught up to him.

Miss?

The smile faded away and was replaced by a slight frown, which was most likely missed on the other given how dark the theatre was, although the small but annoyed sigh of his own that Arian wasn't able to quite bite back may not have been as he shifted away from the man seated next to him and once again turned his attention back to the stage.

Wicked wasn't a show that he was familiar with, but he soon found himself engrossed in the show as it started to tell the tale of Elphaba which was apparently the name of the wicked witch of the west in the Wizard of Oz, it soon clear that there was a lot more to the tale than had been shown in the Judy Garland film.

Ryan Hanover // Captain Witherite

He was sitting with his partner, camera in his lap and barely paying attention to the play. He'd seen several bits during rehearsals for the last show. He sat back grabbing photo every so often, looking to his partner as made notes. He grinned and looked around to get pictures of the seats filled with people. People ripe for the draining and starseed plucking.

He was glad his fiance' hadnt been able to come with his. It would be quite a lot to attempt to possible deal with his husband and complete the mission.

He looked around making a note of who was where, those that he could easily recognize. Some others were in place working for the theater tonight. He tapped his partner to let her knowing he was going to move off to the side to grab some better pictures and headed for the outskirt of the arena.

She watched him, but turned back to the show once he walked off snapping pictures. This article was a double piece, they'd be back for the demolish and would follow the replacement building going up. Assuming she wanted to after tonight. The article would be the article of the century for a whole but not because of the play.

Ashley Williams // Captain Reinerite

Even during the well dressed man's speech, it seemed that there had been one or mayhaps two stragglers out there that had yet to take their seats.

Personally Ashley couldn't see the point in spending money on something, only to then turn up late, but it wasn't something that really concerned her or was worth her attention and so she paid it no mind as she turned her attention to the play.

She was familiar with the story of Wicked, having read the book, although this was her first time seeing it on stage–

And whilst it was one those things that she had meant to try and see it back whilst she was in London because the show had received very good reviews somehow Ashley had never quite managed to find the time - at least until now.

A quiet 'excuse me' had her shifting attention away from the stage and at the man who it seemed had been making his way down the row and had now reached her, Ashley hiding the flash of irritation as she joined the others in standing up to allow him to continue to make his way down the row.

She turned her attention back to the stage, finding it hard initially to pay attention as a part of her knew that she would have to repeat the whole rigmarole all over again when he returned from wherever he had drifted off to–

But the acting was good and she finally managed it, only to have her attention broken once again as the man finally returned with a can of some sort to hand.

It was dark enough that he probably missed the cool, but irritated glance that she sent his way as Ashley once again stood to allow him to pass, a part of her hoping that the rest of those in the row would be considerate enough to at least wait for the interval before making anymore drinks run–

Or if not then at least have the sense to have bought a ticket for a seat at the end of the row by the aisle.

Shannon Mccord//Lt. Strengite

"Certainly Alex, I would love your take on the article before I submit it." Shannon answered absently right before the pale haired man headed off to his seat as the play started. Sadly that was the most interesting part so far. The actors weren't bad honestly but she was more of a club kind of gal then a play person.

It was a rather common story honestly, popular girl and outcast stuck together but really hate each other. If it followed the normal tropes they will hate each other then eventually come to terms. It was kind of like Legally Blonde but less 'blonde' at least that first part. Shannon yawned and squirmed slightly as the songs dragged on and the plot just bopped along. It was predictable and as far as the self centered woman was concerned Elphaba was way too concerned about others. If it had been Shannon with the witch's skills there would have been a serious recogning to answer too, that's for sure.

When her neighbor leaned over to ask another question Shannon almost cheered, she had been that bored. When was intermission damn it. "I think so. Some drivel probably about how she was misunderstood and is some kind of stupid idea that that made her bitter or some s**t." She shrugged and absently drummed her fingers on her arm rest, ignoring the glares from the old bitty on the other side of her. Like Shannon gave a crap what the wrinkled old crone thought, she likely wouldn't survive the little surprise Alex had planned anyway. "Probably got a whole 'there's two sides of every story' moral to the whole thing." Like the play was some bloody Aesop's Fable or something.

For christ's sake, when was the intermission.

Pat O'Ryan || Tortuga of Jupiter

Pat totally missed the frown the young man tossed his way at his little fopa. He had stepped in it by calling him 'miss' without realizing that he was scooching past a guy. Hell, he still didn't know he was sitting next to a dude. Not that any of that mattered, Pat was here for one thing and one thing only. Wicked. The play started and as it progressed the tall redhead got more and more into it.

He started to hum along with the music but as the play progressed he started to quietly sing along. Pat wasn't the only one but he was likely the only guy doing it but on a particular bouncy song when he sung along a bit louder then he meant for a few lines he cut himself off with a muttered, "sorry about that."

Arian is welcome to elbow him ^.^ he can sing but he shouldn't do it during a play XP

The play was...mildly interesting. It wasn't that he felt for the wicked witch, he sort of did, but it was more he wanted to smack some of the other characters...or kill them. Glinda wasn't so nice, at least not in his opinion. he'd never really liked that character in the movie anyway. Now he wondered if she hadn't led Dorothy off to kill the 'wicked witch' who really wasn't so wicked after all. Was Glinda, among others, really the bad one in this story? So far it did seem like it.

he did wonder, idly, if the witch had in fact never been evil or done anything bad. perhaps she was painted as such, and was instead only trying to protect others who needed it? Although that didn't account for her sending her flying monkeys to attack Dorothy...why send them to attack someone, and potentially get hurt, if you cared about them? That was the part he didn't get...and that made her still bad. It was a shame he was going to ruin this play for everyone...himself included.

He'd just have to purchase the book he supposed, and read it. It would, perhaps, be worth it and interesting. Maybe he'd even visit the cities small theater district and catch a show of it, one which wouldn't be interrupted, maybe that would be better than the book? Though wasn't it always the book which was better than the movie...so perhaps both...just to fill in any blanks which one might leave. It sounded like an idea; and a way to spend some time.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 04, 2018 9:30 pm

It is the second half of Act I which shows even more how good Elphaba had been, and maybe even had been all along? Maybe just misunderstood...or twisted, in the end, by what everyone else thought of her and thus made her into in the end? Sort of like a self fulling prophecy...only it was more like everyone else fulfilled it by pointing at her and calling her a wicked witch...thus she eventually had become one?

Standing up for talking animals and their rights. Elphaba did seem like a modern day rights activist of sorts - right? Perhaps the play was being put on to give a message...to teach something.

(Ok, gonna let things soak for tonight/tomorrow and the intermission will start tomorrow night...and the fun will begin. Poor actors and actresses...

Richard Bell

Richard looked over at Ignacio at the question, having been looking all over at what he could see of the inside of the theater from their seats. He actually hadn't ever been to The Autumn, not normally being the play-going type, so it had been with a little bit of surprise that he'd accepted the invite from Ignacio. Usually, he couldn't bring himself to sit through an entire play. Richard didn't watch many movies for much the same reason, unless he had a book or something with him. He had to admit, however, that Ignacio wasn't the only one craving something nice and normal compared to the complete opposite that their lives--or, at least, Richard's--had taken over the past week or so.

He supposed Ignacio's life had been the complete opposite for a considerable amount of time...

Ignacio's decision to sit so far back--there had been closer open seats when they arrived--was initially a bit odd to Richard, and he almost questioned it. But when he had turned his head to look at him, he had seen the way Ignacio looked at the end of the row, and Richard was able to follow his gaze from there to one of the nearby exits. Ignacio was choosing seating based on how close to the exit it was.

Of course.

"Hm? Oh, yeah." He smiled gently, resting one of his hands on top of Ignacio's and just as gently rubbing the skin of Ignacio's wrist with his thumb. What he was going to say next was cut off by the announcements and the curtains parting and, knowing it would be rude to keep talking, Richard settled back in his seat to watch. He knew of Wicked, certainly. But he hadn't ever seen or read The Wizard of Oz outside of high school English class, and so he went into the play with very few expectations of how the story would go, though he did at least know Wicked was apparently a retelling of sorts. A perspective shift, or something.

As the play went on, that was confirmed for Richard. It was a pretty good story line, he supposed, an interesting take on the "accept who you are" motif.

Sleet Tempest Snape
back filling a little bit...

Gisela Louise | Super Sailor Noctua of Insomnia

Gisela detested crowds... they were too noisy. Too bustley. Too... much. They grated on Gisela's nerves and then sent them scattering too far reaches where she could not follow them. She avoided them at all possible costs, especially when she had not been sleeping as well as she normally was (which was to say not well at all under usual circumstances), and the easiest way, she had found, was just to be late. It was her general practice when there would be crowds, to arrive to the party when things were settled down or cleared out, like now when the lights were dimming and people were finding their seats.

Alexandre would understand, she trusted. She would show up before the play actually started, she promised him silently, and she had kept that promise, slipping into the back of the theater to haunt the farthest row. She found the young man -- her new commanding officer -- with her eyes and made note to find him during intermission. Was the young lieutant from before going to be with him? Would more of his team be here? Gisela had yet to meet them, but really it was her own fault. The school year had destroyed her utterly and it was only thanks to her surplus that she was able to take a few weeks off at all.

The play started and Gisela settled back into her shadows comfortably. She liked the theater. It was cozy, even with so many people. The combined heat of those around her swaddled her like a blanket, her own slight form making homeostasis difficult. The darkness calmed her, allowing her to limit her stimulus to only the stage and what was happening.

Wicked.

As the play went on, Gisela felt herself keenly aware that the musical was very different from the book her mother read to her as a child. Fiyero, to whom she had always felt a special connection, was not the soft-spoken foreigner from the text. This man was... obnoxious. Dancing through life? Fiyero would never. And Baq, that sweet munchkin whose deepest wish was to be accepted by Glinda and her peers was... he was just not there. Her two most precious characters were bastardized or worse... ignored. No, Baq wasn't a hopeless waif pining for Glinda... he was so much more. He was passionate and sweet and intelligent and... more. Fiyero wasn't this pretty boy idiot who only wanted to dance. Fiyero was supposed to be a kind, gentle, soft-spoken leader of a proud people. He was everything and this fop on stage was nothing.

Gisela sunk back into her seat, mood settling somewhere between disappointment and irritation as the play wore on.

Ignacio Araya || Transcendent Eternal Sailor Encke

"Good," hummed Ignacio, closing his eyes for a moment despite the upcoming announcements when he felt his Arra's hand over his. He couldn't help the gentle sigh, the way his shoulders relaxed further, the way he leaned into Richard despite the small seat barrier between them. This was a good idea. This was nice, even. He knew Richard wasn't a big play guy, but the fact that he had agreed to come and they were sitting close, watching a last performance, felt right.

It felt much better than having to explain for a third time how exactly starseeds were the center of this whole mess.

Ignacio knew the play Wicked well. It was a popular one, from Broadway all the way down to high school theatre, and in consequence, the play was all-too-familiar. He wasn't overly concerned about the story line. It could have been any play that night, really, though the familiarity of Wicked helped him focus less on the words and more on the feelings. He was familiar with the local theatre community on a rather deep level, and watching them pour their hearts out into this performance was, on some level, painful to watch. He knew why they were doing it. The Autumn, which they performed in, which perhaps they grew up in, was going to be torn down, rather than renovated, rather than declared a historical landmark or something and allowed to live.

It was sad.

He might have squeezed Richard's hand a little at points, biting down on his lip after a particularly emotional song. It felt like celebration. It felt like grieving.

When the first act was coming to a close, Ignacio let out a sigh, straightening himself out and attempting to look less sad than he felt. It wasn't particularly succeeding, though looking into his love's eyes brought a smile edging back onto his lips. "Are you enjoying the story so far? Wicked's a popular play, honestly," laughed Ignacio, before turning towards the exit.

"Say, you wanna get some snacks or something? I kinda got the munchies." Ignacio offered his hand to Richard once more.

Arian Laith // Eternal Sailor Athene

Arian had bitten back a sigh as the guy in the seat next to him started humming along to one of the songs, but had stoically tried to ignore him.

He'd thought it coincidental at first, had thought that the other hadn't realised how annoying it was - but as the act progressed so did the humming - and it was getting louder.

It wasn't that the other's voice was bad, because it wasn't, but it was distracting and annoying and had progressed from humming to outright singing - and whilst Arian didn't have anything against singing per se - deliberately breaking out into song whilst others were trying to watch a show definitely fell under 'a** move' in his book.

The mutterings from those seated around them suggested that he wasn't the only one who found it annoying, although it seemed that the mutterings were going completely over the other's head since the singing was getting louder to the point where Arian figured that he was going to have to say something.

Someone from the row behind spoke up first, a hand reaching forward to tap on the seat during one of Glinda's songs complete with with a hissed shut up.

Arian bit back another sigh as he once again tried to focus on what was happening up on stage, he was so going to find another seat during the interval–

An interval which by now couldn't come fast enough.

Tom Wolf // General Arsenopyrite

Tom jerked his head back up, trying to keep his eyes open while listening to the play. Wicked wasn't a bad play at all, but he had seen it before, and with the new semester and the fact that he had now started graduate school, along with all of his other duties, well, he hadn't been getting too much sleep. He had tried to make it up here and there, but he had had to sacrifice his experiments more and more just to get six hours of sleep a night, even on the weekends.

Which is why when Benitoite had told him about this event that the General had been planning, Arseno had immediately agreed to do it, if only to catch up a bit on the work that he was missing out on doing in the Negaverse.

And so now he was standing around, having been assigned as an "usher" for the duration that the play was going on, and he had almost nodded off several times already. He only hoped that adrenaline would give him the push he needed to be able to actually contribute to this plan of Beni's, though time would only tell. All he knew though was the he had to do something...

He barely paid attention to the play, and periodically looked at his watch in hopes that time would somehow go a bit faster, if only for a moment. Unfortunately, he knew the play already, and knew at what part the intermission would happen, but still, he could hope that the laws of physics would break just a bit for him, right?

Erich Jäger // Lt. Geocronite
Erich had tried to look intimidating. Back straight, tall as he could be, giving a "don't try to mess with me" face, etc. but he wasn't sure if it was working. Or even if it had been needed. He had been recruited to do this little... event by another General that he had never heard of, and he had been nagged a bit more by his closer superiors that he had needed to do more for the Negaverse and so... here he was. Though he really wasn't enjoying it. He wasn't one for musical theater, and the Wizard of Oz stuff had never interested him.

So he was mostly bored, waiting for when he could finally power up. He had mostly been recruited to make sure that any civilians and... other powered people wouldn't be able to make it out, and he knew that something awful was about to go down, and he hated it. But he had been forced to participate. He only hoped that he could ignore most of what was happening then, because he didn't want to be a part of any of this.

But... if he could help a bit in some way... he shook his head. No, those thoughts weren't helpful. The Negaverse was evil, and he needed to find some possible way out of it. Out of all of this.

Pat O'Ryan || Tortuga of Jupiter

Pat had gotten so into the play and the music that it wasn't until the guy behind him told him to shut up. Purple eyes widened slightly and a blush crawled up his neck. "s**t. Sorry," he quietly apologized to the group around him as he settled into his seat. He liked the soundtrack to Wicked, it was pretty earwiggish and bouncy, so he really hadn't realized that he had started to sing along with the much better singers on stage. To make matters worse he had annoyed the people around him, people who were trying to enjoy the last play this troupe was holding in this theater.

The play continued on even without his little error so it took a moment or two for Pat to get back into it. This time when the urge to hum along with the music he consciously kept silent, he didn't want to ruin anyone else's experience any further then he already had. He should totally apologize to the people around him for real when they went on intermission.

(Gonna skip adding anything tonight...cause I'm feeling under the weather a bit. Medication is making me too tired to focus. I've been trying to focus...but can't. Me and allergy meds don't play nice.

I'll update when I get home tomorrow night, since I have Friday off.

Take some time and have some fun.

Plus it looks like a few more characters have joined the fun.)
