He nodded, signalling with his tail for everyone to round up. "Come," He eyed his daughter in particular, "Stay close to me." She knew she wasn't supposed to leave the camp without her mentor. He'd have a talk with her later. He stepped forward on quiet paws, keeping his mouth open to try and hold the scent. It isn't difficult. A few fox-lengths later, the scent of both Two-legs and water have grown stronger. And a new scent, strong and metallic coats his tongue. Before long, they all can see it. Sunseer stands horrified as he peers down from the cliff side. Below him is more water than he's ever seen. Trapped by tall walls, the water sits almost tauntingly. Looking closely, Sunseer can spy where the river used to flow. Now it is just an empty bed that leads back the way they came. So this was it. This is what had happened. "The Two-legs stole the river. Trapped it." He stood there, wide-eyed. This was far worse than he had thought and panic was beginning to freeze his blood.

Silverstreak hadn't been able to catch anything, despite how hard she tried to listen for something, but it didn't matter once they got to the border. She was thinking that they might carry on, there was still a ways to go, but then Sunseer places the mouse at their paws. She looked at it, hunger gnawing at her insides, but she looked to Duskpaw and Dawnpaw first. Her sisters ought to eat before she even thought to. She was about to say as much when Sunseer suddenly inquired about a smell. She perked up her ears and tasted the air.
"Twolegs..." She hissed, her fur raising. She nodded to Goldenleaf, who had joined the patrol at some point or another. Then, she refocused her attention ahead and followed Sunseer.
As they all reached the cliff side, Silverstreak froze as she looked at the sight. She looked to Sunseer, frozen and to the shock and anger reflected in her Clanmates faces. She lashed her tail. "Not even SunClan could have predicted this." She growled. "We have to do something!" She dug her claws into the dry, dusty ground beneath her. But what could they do? They couldn't take it back from the Twolegs, could they?

Mudstreak had spent most of the morning 'checking' on things around the camp as he watched and then waited for the hunting patrol to return with what he hoped was a bountiful hunt. But a sense of dread had clung to him ever since he first opened his eyes. The need to keep himself busy, somehow, grew ever stronger. It was all he could do to keep his mind from wandering so he continued to check, find, clean and fix any little thing just to keep his paws busy. And then the hunting party returned. A brief sense of relief washed over him as he saw pieces of fresh kill. The muddied colored tom dared to let a hint of a smile begin to wash over his muzzle, but then he caught the worried words of the others. "Twolegs.." he hissed quietly to himself, his ears pricked forward. He crept forward as Sunseer spoke, ears pinning flat to his head and the fur along his spine bristling. He echoed Silverstreak as he padded up to stop beside her, his voice barley containing a hiss. "She's right, we have to do something... anything! I'll gladly lend my claws...however I can." he murmured, tail lashing the air.

The tom's stony demeanor didn't change much, but the flick of his tail smoothed into more of a satisfied lash. Granted, he likely wouldn't have remained in camp anyway...but it felt better not to be left behind. Lowering his head, Dawnstride shouldered his way through the brambles. Single-file with his fellow warriors. It would be nice to travel with the other cats for once - or so he told himself.
He was still reminding himself when the mouse he'd been tracking burst from the undergrowth, with an apprentice hard on its tail. The cat's ears flicked backwards. Which apprentice, he couldn't tell right off the bat - he'd not spent enough time around Dawn- or Duskpaw to tell them apart. Just as inscrutable were their mentors, Stormsong...and Silverstreak. Perhaps he should make more efforts to reach out to them, but part of him... Well. He'd cherished his mentor, and look what happened? There was no telling whether any of the Clan cats would be around long enough for him to know.
Dawnstride didn't realize that brooding had taken up so much of the trip until Sunseer was halting them. He stepped forward to grab his swallow of the mouse, and tried not to be so impressed that their leader was still the best hunter of the lot. Wasn't fair to him to be judged for things he couldn't control, Sunclan or not. And as they rounded the corner, it became even more obvious that their perils were not Sunclan's doing.
His eyes went flint-hard again, narrowing into slits. The addition of Goldenleaf with yet another apprentice was noted from the corner of one eye. There was something reassuring about her presence, even if it came with the addition of smaller paws to an increasingly interesting patrol. Mudstreak was a bit of an unknown, but Dawnstride nodded a greeting anyway. It was his own fault he didn't know more about the cats of his own clan; he couldn't begrudge them for it.
"What can we do?" The tom replied, gaze flickering over to Silverstreak, simultaneously angry at her suggestion and sympathetic to their shared fury. "This isn't some boar or hawk that we can fight. That thing," a vicious lash of his tail indicated the man-made walls, "seems so far beyond us."
His features darkened, hating the words even as they came out of his mouth. Giving up was not a favorite of Dawnstride's, but if this was an example of what Two-Legs could do... The tom withheld a shudder. Fear wasn't a favorite of his, either.

Despite the panic and terror that flooded his body, that small taste of hope burned on his tongue. Two-legs had stolen their river, their way of life. It was not due to his lack of leadership that the clan was starving, nor had SunClan abandoned them as he had feared. No, this was something so entirely out of their paws that, when the question arose, the answer was simple. "We go home. SunClan must be told, and with their help, something will be done." He lay an understanding tail on the shoulder of Mudstreak, rage burning in his eyes. But his years as a warrior has taught him anything, it was this. Prepare. Quote: Thank you guys for participating in this little "prologue" type ORP, it was great playing with you! All participants please make note of this thread as it counts as one completed RP for the cats who participated!
