I would be amazed if our BD would use a prop. he says that we are a band marching not a marching band or a show band that bases the show off of the props and plays almost no music. we are not a military style band or a drum and bugle corp. With that said the color guard would be our wierdest prop

pyrojazz kiefy I would be amazed if our BD would use a prop. he says that we are a band marching not a marching band or a show band that bases the show off of the props and plays almost no music. we are not a military style band or a drum and bugle corp. With that said the color guard would be our wierdest prop Up until a couple of years ago, I thought my BD felt the same way. He usually doesn't want anything flashy. He still thinks the music is the most important part.

Last year's show was "The World Of M.C. Escher." Escher was the guy who did all those famous paintings of optical illusions. Notably, "Ascending and Descending," "Drawing Hands," and "Mobius Strip."
You know how the Colorguard is usually divided into Flags, Rifles, and Sabers? There was a special group that did work with picture frames and easels. It sounded corny at first, but it looked fecking AWESOME.
Also, backfield, there were the three paintings of the three movements, covered by curtains. Band Managers hid behind them and pulled the curtains off as the show progressed.
And at certain points of the show -the Low Brass Feature, the Flute Solo, and the Finale,- the sections of the band being showcased were literally framed. More band managers up front had collapsable "picture frames" that they would put up around the featured section during their part. Because of the nature of the movement with the flute solo ("Drawing Hands" is a picture of two hands literally popping off of a piece of paper and drawing each other.) they had the soloist popping through the picture frame.
Last year was the most prop-heavy show we've ever done. Just listening to it did it no justice.

This past year we played music from The Incredibles and at the end we had the smallest girl in band ride out on a little tricycle and go "that was totally wicked!"

Last year we had umbrellas... it made sence (out theme was waterfront, and it was during the transition from the ballad (it was basically the transition... the pit played signing in the rain between the ballad and the closer))
The year before that the guard had an apple for the very begining (theme was the 7 deadly sins and a recording goes "eat the apple"... it was nice. lol)
This year we're supposed to have a propl of the stone henge... that should be interesting

We had giant moving cylindars each one was taller than the one before it. They had curtains around them so that they could "change color" From silver to pink, purple, blue, green, or yellow

My favorite prop that I've ever seen would be one used by one of our big Texas bands... I forget which one...
They had a bunch of huge flowers and leaves around the field, and a few people hiding under a giant ladybug. Sometime in the show the ladybug got up and started crawling around the field through all the marchers.
it was so cute. And totally distracting. xD

I saw a winter guard show where they used bubble wrap, and jumped on it in time with the music. It was oddly amazing.

For one of our shows we had to run behind this sheet that was raised up between two light houses and put on yellow rubber rain coats over our uniforms
