"I know you won't!"
Kyn was blinded by her hatred, her fury, her misguided desire to protect. She wanted Painite to suffer, losing sight of her husband's philosphy that love was better for anger than hate. She couldn't love Painite, it was never even a question. She let out a roar of fury when the general teleported, spinning around quickly to spot the woman standing over her unconscious husband. The spear turning him had her heart dropping into her shoes and she was almost certain that her provocation had just cost her the love of her life. Her eyes widened and she lunged forward.
"Painite, don't!"
She reached out her hand, her eyes pleading as much as her tone as she saw the spear fall. Maybe she gave away too much with her cry but she was almost heartsick at the idea of her husband being taken from her. She saw that the tip stopped short of his skull; the old Painite wouldn't have hesitated. She let her hand fall, stopping short and not appearing threatening.
"I'm begging you." She was quiet immediately, looking at the other woman earnestly. "Please don't hurt him."
She saw a strange look in the general's eyes and on her face. It stopped the knight in her tracks. She thought she saw something almost human. Shalott shook her head in wonder, the words being spoken to her unregistered. Whatever this was, this change, it was something she didn't understand.
"What happened to you?" She asked softly employing a compassionate tone, and not just because she had Tony's life in her hands. "Painite, what's going on here?"

"I'm not going to hurt him," Painite grunted, looking down at the unconscious man for a moment. There were so many memories, complicated as they were, surrounding this place. The library, and the knights she had encountered here, the battles she had been involved in. The trouble she started. And still, magic prevented her from ever fully understanding why this place was a catalyst for her, why it put so many things into motion.
her will to kill, though, was missing tonight. It had been for a little while now, after speaking with Cavansite and Camelot, and enduring the trials she had of late. Tests of a nature, a side of herself, she thought long dead.
"Nothing happened to me," she said, after a long, thoughtful moment. She banished her weapon once more after she spoke, leaving Tony injury free. At least, any injury caused by her own hands. Her minon's obsession with him was his own deal, and had nothing to do with her. She never really asked, though he had explained more than once simply because he liked to hear himself talk.
She was quiet for a moment, then shuffled her foot.
"I'm engaged. To another General. I love her with all my heart, but things are... complicated. I thought she... I thought she wanted to purify, but now I'm not so sure. I don't know what she wants. What I want. I don't now who I am." She had no one to talk to, besides Cavansite, her only friend and the purest love she had ever experienced. Recently, things had been strained and different, but she was unsure why. It only added to the stress she was under, trying to figure out why the White Moon, which she hated so much, was now calling to her.
As if it could ever accept her.

Shalott could not hope to hide the sigh of relief when Painite said she wasn't going to hurt him. She closed her eyes and thanked every God in the heavens for his safety. She loved him more than life itself and couldn't imagine being parted from him for even a moment. She'd dodged a bullet here, no question, and had to wonder why even as she was eternally grateful for it.
Her shock was further stoked by the rush of information she was given. It was a struggle to take it all in and process it without her bias getting in the way. Shalott let the pain go and tried to just be a knight for a moment. Setting aside how much the general had hurt her was hard but allowed her to see cleared and be more sympathetic. Searching and questioning were good; very good.
"Painite." She offered a helpless shrug of her shoulders. "I think I know what you mean. I'm married to Camelot, but you knew that already. Our marriage with these lives we lead is so hard sometimes. There was a time when I wanted to walk away from all of it. Not him, just this extra life."
She'd grown so disillusioned, so frustrated by this never ending tide of chaos, that she'd quit. To his credit, he'd supported her in her decision and with his love and support she was able to make the decision to come back. Shalott was who she was - a larger part than she understood.
"I didn't think I was making a difference. I was confused about this war and my place in it. I hated some of the things I had done, was doing. To be honest, there are some days I still struggle with it."
She didn't want to presume to tell her to change sides. She wanted to, thinking it would make her significantly less of a threat to the people she loved, but she knew it wasn't her place. She decided to share her doubts and, maybe, soothe some doubts in the general. Or, at the very least, let her know she wasn't alone.
"I wish I could say it's easier on this side. I wish I could say that purifying will erase the doubt and make everything better, but I can't. I can say it will give you new allies to support and love you. If you're meant to be here, you'll know."

Painite had a lot more she wanted to say, but she could not find the right words. Expressing herself had always been easy enough, before, because she never really had to be truthful. She lived a shallow, simple existence of a monster that loved what it did, and did nothing else. Sinking deeper than that rarely occurred to her, and yet now it was all she seemed to be doing.
"I guess we'll never know, eh? It doesn't matter. You better get this guy to a hospital. I'm not that nice, and I'm not going to do it for you."
She dropped the subject instead of continuing further, unable to wrap her head around all the things she wanted to say. In some ways, she wanted to apologize, but how did one go about something like that after terrorizing a family for years? It was just not that easy.
No one would forgive her, so how could the White Moon ever accept her? She had a feeling, a fear that she couldn't share with anyone, that if she tried to purify her starseed would simply turn to dust. Like there would be nothing there, once the Chaos was gone.
It was all she was, and had been for a long time.
She teleported abruptly, leaving the area. Her aura was gone, and she had no intention of going back there for now. She did want to speak to camelot, though, and might have to catch up with him at some point.

This time she was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. She moved to Tony and knelt beside him, checking him over for injuries. Once the general teleported she powered down and kissed his cheek, silently apologizing. She called an ambulance and sat with him, waiting for it to arrive. Soon, she was sitting with him as they rode at break neck speed to the hospital.
Once he was being taken care of she couldn't help but direct her thoughts back to Painite and what had been said and the person she wanted to talk to about it was unconscious, so she'd have to wait.
