The sort that didn't need to enjoy new things? Kaimi cocked his head to one side, a curious look on his face, before he asked, "So you're much more content sticking to reed farming? I think I understand since I am quite dedicated to my own work as well." While his job might take him all over the place that didn't mean that he liked the idea of jumping into a new job while he was in one of those new places. If it might help him reach his goals sooner then he might try but he'd much rather stick to digging for gems to be honest.

Giving a smile he said, "You shouldn't force yourself to do things you're uncomfortable with. You just need to make it through your trip then you will be able to get back to life as usual, right?" As Rewi declared that he'd be fine Kaimi nodded his head, feeling he should definitely cheer his friend on in his endeavor.

"I could." He murmured, wondering if while he could go if he should go. Those were two very different things after all. He wanted to go and it would be a nice break from Moke. Not to mention he'd be able to dig around in the other area and hopefully get a lot of strange crystals from that area to bring home. Giving a humming sound he said, "There are far more up sides then down sides in this trip I feel. Ah! But if you're needing to leave right away I'm not sure if I would be able to prepare for such a trip."

"Ah, well, I don't really..." He trailed off uncertainly. Reed farming was the family business. It was what Rewi should be doing with himself and what he one day ought to be prepared to live for. It wasn't, but it should be. He didn't usually mind admitting to people that he wasn't the most motivated toward the family business, since there wasn't any point in lying, but it did feel a little bit embarrassing to say to Kaimi, who Rewi was sure coudln't relate at all, considering he already knew what he was going to do with himself. The gods had gifted him a talent for it, after all. "R-right, I suppose," Rewi murmured instead.

Right. 'Content' to stick to reed farming. It was almost just as embarrassing to not confess his disinterest as it was to admit to it fully. There really was no way to win.

"Believe me, I usually don't. I wouldn't force myself to do anything especially unpleasant, but it's not much my choice this time." It was hardly his fault he was stuck doing something he didn't want to. His parents had decided it was his destiny, and now... If he didn't go, everyone would be disappointed in him and missing out on whatever important information the meeting would bestow upon its patrons.

At Kaimi's acknowledgement, 'I could,' Rewi felt a peculiar abashment crawling through him, a heating of his cheeks up to his ears, and a flutter of excitement in his heart. Maybe he wouldn't have to go alone! ...But he shouldn't be too excited about it; he didn't want to seem like he was pressuring and needy. So Rewi crossed his arms, rocked back, and glanced away. "I haven't needed to leave immediately up to this point, so I could probably wait a little longer..."

Kaimi gave a smile when the other agreed with him, though he found himself wondering if he had read the situation wrong. Was he not a fan of reed farming? Was it something he did because it was the family business? He was curious but he didn't want to push since their friendship was still so new. Best not to bug him too much he thought himself as he continued to swim along, pausing only when they got to the stall he was looking to trade with.

Once he'd paused he turned to look at Rewi again, "Oh? You don't have to leave straight away then?" So that meant that there might be time for him to finish his errands and do a bit of packing at home so he could tag along? So long as Moke was gone that would make it so much easier for him to slip away without being bothered by the older menehune.

"I would need some time to pack some things if I were to come along with you." He said, a thoughtful look on his face as he thought about what he'd have to do before he could leave home.

I think I would like to do at least one more post after yours to make sure they're all settled, but with this one, I'm gonna go ahead and toss Rewi in for growth!

Rewi glided through the familiar market at Kaimi's side. It wasn't often that he was the one sent out to gather food or materials from the merchants, but regardless of that, their town was small, and Rewi knew where most things could be found and even the names of some of the stall-owners. ...He would miss it, he was sure. But it would only be for a few weeks at most, he reminded himself. And then he would return and everything would be as it was.

With a slow nod, he turned his attention back to Kaimi, curious of what the other boy had come to market to trade for, and not really intending to hold him up in that regard. "Well, I should still like to leave as straight away as I could," he admitted. "It isn't as though I can return home, since I've already left. I imagine my parents would be furious..."

He still needed to leave today, certainly, though perhaps the time didn't matter much more than that.

Rewi had been careful to leave early so that he would have enough time to make it somewhere, but the Pale'iko border town of Ukupaia wasn't really that far. It wouldn't take the full day to make it there. And the day wasn't even yet at high noon. Most Menehune were used to getting to work early, so whatever errands needed to be run could still surely be managed. "I would like to be on my way before the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. If that's enough time for you to do anything that needs doing, then I don't mind waiting."

'grats on getting him in to grow!

As he looked things over Kaimi found himself chewing on his thumbnail in a thoughtful manner. Now that he was faced with the possibility of going on a trip he found himself rethinking his shopping. He should likely get things that were more useful to him for a trip instead of trading for what he would normally get for just a regular day.

He gave a humming sound before he turned to look over at Rewi again, "I see. Hmm, alright... I should probably head home then, gather my things, and try to meet you." He'd put his trading off for now. He'd pack what he needed at home and then he could always trade for other things he needed along the way and once they got to where they were going. If would save a lot of time that way and actually give him more of a chance that he'd be able to catch up with Rewi.

Giving a smile he said, "If I am late you should go ahead without me and I can catch up. I have a really good kick that lets me swim in a really rapid manner so I should be able to make up ground if I have to. I just need to know what path you're taking."

Thanks! <3

Should he offer to follow Kaimi home and help him ready any supplies he might need? Rewi had known for weeks that he was going to be traveling for a while, so he'd had ample time to ready himself and consider all he might need and learn what he needed to know. But he'd selfishly sprung this on his friend at the last moment, so even though Rewi didn't intend to rescind the offer (he didn't want to g alone, after all!), it felt like he ought to have the decency to give aid, if he could.

But Kaimi was a capable boy, and Rewi didn't think them so close yet that he ought to be inviting himself to his new friend's abode.

He decided it would be fine to let Kaimi meet him, and if during his preparations, the other boy decided he didn't really want to travel, or if he was just perhaps being kind by agreeing to it now, he wouldn't feel pressured to go through with it once Rewi wasn't at his side. It seemed like a kindness, to at least offer Kaimi that much.

Rewi nodded determinedly. Even if Kaimi never followed, thinking that he would might at least give him the courage to set out. "Thank you, friend," he said with a grin. "Take as long as you need, and don't worry about me." Leaning forward, he caught up both Kaimi's hands in his and lifted them to his chest. "You've made me hopeful that even someone like me can manage this much. I'll be traveling along the eastern pass, through the canal. Don't worry about rushing, if we don't meet along the way, I'll wait for you in Ukupaia. That seems like a good spot to take a break."

With a mischievous glint in his emerald eyes, Rewi leaned in to touch his lips ligtly to the back of one of Kaimi's knuckles. "I'll see you there, Kaimi!" And then, before any action could be taken against him, Rewi released the other boy, turned back to the road ahead, and quickly skimmed off.
