Balhira: Post 8

She narrowed her eyes and tried to recall what was said. In fact, they had offered her payment, but she had been so incredulous that she ignored that offer. Really, she never had someone offer to pay her to carry something. Her beads, sure, but this... well she simply blinked at Joena and nodded, "I suppose you did..." She added with neutral tones, the slight lit of remorse at the trail end of the comment. She brushed it back, she had already apologized and offered for free, so there was no need to dwell on extending her mistake. If that was their intent, well she'd just accept that she caused an issue and leave them be.

Thankfully, for the bristle of Joena, Rewi seemed to sooth things over with his smile. Yes, she could work with this, this ease that the boy seemed to have. Sure, it felt a bit riverfolk, but it was easier to deal with than grudge holding that most of her people dealt with. Maybe it would be worth meeting someone just to not worry as much about following their ways and keeping up appearances. Balhira was dedicated, she didn't mind the ways of her people and couldn't imagine it much any other way. That being said, she also appreciated a simple life. She appreciated knowing how an interaction would run and no surprises. The only surprises she wanted was a surprise about something good coming from her job.

She shook her head at Rewi, "What's done is done. No need to offer, but if you really insist, I would rather do a trade..."

She pulled out her own small bag, lifting her hand to show some beads. They weren't fancy, but they were round and smooth and looked good enough for bring a simple apprentice. Hopefully, one day she would be able to create the beautiful items that others in her village made.

Rewi: Post 9

It came easier. Rewi could practically feel an easing in both the girls with him. With Balhira's apology and acceptance, Joena also eased back a bit, letting out a quiet sigh instead of more accusations and bickering. And though maybe he was wrong, as he had been before, Rewi couldn't help but feel like the stranger they'd met on the road maybe didn't dislike him quite so much as it had initially felt. Even if they were born in different villages and led different lives, Rewi couldn't help but think there was a chance yet that they may get along more often than not, if the opportunity ever presented itself again.

He smiled. "But it isn't done," the boy replied softly. "We've not made it into town, and we haven't even begun to head that way again. I offer because it would please me to see you rewarded for your service and patience, but..." He eyed her beads.

Never once had Rewi had opportunity to partake in any merchant dealings- Well, no, that wasn't quite right. The opportunity had certainly been there when he'd been present alongside his father and siblings at other market outings, but because there had always been others available, and Rewi had never shown much by way of being talented at bartering, no one had ever asked him to so much as obtain supplies or peddle their wares. He'd never 'traded' actual goods for services, beyond dealings with his siblings for better snacks. Never with anyone else.

"Yyyes," Rewi said at length. "A trade. I can do that." He still wasn't entirely sure of what 'grass' equated to in terms of 'beads,' but maybe that wasn't the point of the exchange. He dipped into a sit and rummaged in one of the smaller sacks to pull out a tied bundle of his family's crop. "Here, Balhira," he hummed, offering her the reeds. "I don't know what purpose it will serve you, but I hope it does."

Balhira: Post 9

Balhira eyed him and his reaction, slowly reconsidering the offer now that she noticed his reaction. It almost seemed like he was overwhelmed by the idea of the simple trade. Looking down to her beads, she knew they weren't anything special, so why was he hesitant to trade. Was it that he didn't like her beads? Well they weren't ugly per say, but they were a bit bland. She didn't quite have the colors to make the fancy one like the professionals in her village, nor the skill, but she was able to trade them for meals in the past few days.

Glancing back up at Rewi, she caught sight of the bundle and smiled a simple smile, "Thank you," she responded, pulling out a handful of beads and holding them out, "Those will do just fine, and hopefully these beads will serve you well in the future."

Looking over the reeds, she brushed them a moment to test their quality, "Maybe some day we will cross paths again when I've made something with this, and I'll be able to show you true quality wares..."

Rewi: Post 10

It was a peculiar sense of accomplishment that came with the weight of Balhira's glass offerings falling into his palm. 'Trading' had not been so difficult as he might have imagined, and even though Rewi still wasn't sure what use the girl could gain out of a few reeds, he did hope she wouldn't be disappointed in whatever she chose to do with them. He glanced down at what she'd offered him in return. Although he hadn't wanted to take anything more than whatever effort she was willing to give, Rewi couldn't deny that Balhira did have a talent for her craft that he didn't think he possessed.

Her beads were smooth, round, and solid in his hand as he rolled one between two fingers. Dark in color, but translucent, perhaps one of the most glittering things that could be found in the swamplands. "They're really lovely," he hummed softly. Though he still wasn't sure what he could do with them besides wear them, which, admittedly, was probably what they were for, anyway.

"I suppose I can't do more than hope that it's even possible to make something with those reeds," he admitted. "I don't know what qualities are most suited for glass making, but I hope they've got them." He smoothed his finger over a bead again. "But these are quality, I think," Rewi replied. "Intricacy doesn't always mean 'more' quality, and sometimes simple is better. I quite like simple, myself. They're beautiful, and... so are you. It was nice meeting you, Balhira. You really surprised me a lot today, so thank you for everything."

She smiled again, a small smile of thanks at his complement, "Hopefully, they can't be something special, someday." It was a sense of pride at the thought of her craft, at the drive that led her on her path through life. He may still be searching, but she found her purpose and knew what she wanted in life. To be the best, to be a master, to make something of herself someday. Hopefully, she wouldn't be old and pruned by the time that someday happened, hopefully she'd be a leader much like the others in her village.

She waved off the rest of his compliments and just shrugged a bit, looking at the stack and nodding, "Well, enough of this, let's get your good to where they need to go."

She was getting hungry, and any more complements and she'd start to blush. For now, the determined worker was back, and she was ready to pick things up and help them out. Then, she would prepare herself to head home and see just what she could make from these new reeds.
