Faustite never answered Eion's phone. Instead it sat, dead in a dead space, waiting for a moment to exist again, waiting for a time above ground where cell towers reached out to it, where it was anchored in a digital sea. Interconnectivity was its goal, its single primary use. Where it sat now, it remained a prohibitively expensive alarm clock. A paperweight made of cutting-edge plastics.

When Eion returned, all airy cloth and sandal scraps, that very phone buzzed insistently. It nagged from its stitched pocket in Eion's tunic, ever reminding that someone tried to contact him. Someone reached across that vast digital sea for him. Visual voicemail confirmed as much. Standing in the light shade on a converted house's veranda, foot flush against the outside brick of the recently-turrned-café, he listened through wireless earbuds. A woman's voice, nearly nervous in addressing a stranger. The same stumbles expected out of those unused to voicemails, or those lacking confidence. And, of course, Schörl's cat's name, projected with weight unbecoming of that lardy pantywaste.

So much for a relaxing day. The reskinned Captain knew the way circuitously through Apple Maps, the directions concise and the bus paths synced up to the minute with their location triangulating software. Eion followed familiar dashes and lines, waited the minutes, listened to a Spotify mix of softer, breathy voices with atmospheric songs, stood mired in that nostalgia, paid his fare, sat in the bus and waited more while sun dappled his skin where the bus tried corners.

'Seren's' apartment was a short eventuality. Distinctly low income, Eion cast a discerning look over the lot of it as he ascended dirty, crooked stairs. The place obviously settled in its age, else the walls wouldn't feature so much slanting and peeling plaster. When he knocked, he stifled the impulse to wash his hands. "Seren? I'm here for Tiberius."

Black shorts, ankle boots, a white lengthy tank and a thickly-striped black and white threadbare cardigan adorned him, the outermost layer constantly slipped off a shoulder. His tooled leather bracelet slipped across his right arm constantly. He waited, his every impatience painted into bobs from one foot to the other, in the way he looked about the hall, in his hands' perpetual twitchery as if fidgeting with his own nothings.

Want his people? Not just then; he was quite fine mooching off Seren, but it was the way of good things to come to an end, and he'd planted his devious little seeds in her computer. He'd be back.

Tiberius hopped back into her lap and accepted all the snuggling while Seren made her call; he remained firmly planted there until he heard the familiar sound of Eion's footsteps approaching. Even the knock on the door didn't make him get up - not until Seren gently scootched him from her lap so that she could greet the interloper at her door did the massive Mauvian move, and then only with a great sigh.

"Miyaaaaao." He said at her, following after the young woman, tail up. I wonder how much he hates it... Ten to one, Eion was miserable in Seren's apartment complex. But he was an uppity little thing where Tiberius wasn't. "Mrrr?" Playing 'regular cat' had to continue, for the moment, so Tibs put on his best 'what is going on' trill and marked a door jamb while gazing at the door curiously.

Seren heard the knock and sighed again, having been giving Tiberius all the attention she could. When he did not move of his own free will, she sighed ever more deeply, because she did not want to make him leave either. She gently lifted the beautiful big cat, scootching him just as much as absolutely necessary for her to get up, and then set him back onto the couch.

She wished her couch was not a cheap a** second hand couch, because such an elegant and regal cat deserved a more lovely surrounding. She did not comment, though, because the owner was here. "One moment!" She called out, as she wove her way through the slightly cramped space to the door. She took a deep breath, opening it, though she glanced back at the cat when she heard him speak. She gave Tiberius a smile, letting the beautiful animal settle her nerves at talking to a strange person who's voice sounded male to her and thus triggered natural alarms at the back of her head.

When she popped the door open, however, her foot blocked any chance of the cat escaping... Just in case... And when she looked up, she saw a rather younger looking person then she had expected. Apparently male, by appearance at least, and just a touch shorter then herself. His outfit was... interesting, an eclectic mix of the expensive and the sort of thing she might buy because it was in her price range but also not ugly. After a moment of silently judging the stranger, trying to decide if she should be scared, she gave him a quiet, shy smile.

"Hi. So yeah, your boy is right here... Not sure how often he goes on rambles, but he's been fe... Wait I said that on the phone. Sorry..." She sounded a little nervous, but not as much as she would have if he had been older or physically larger. "Um. Do you have a carrier or anything, or are you just gonna... Snag him?"

She really was NOT sure how to handle this part. She felt awkward as ******** and nervous that she sounded like an idiot... But she wanted to make sure the cat got home safely.

There was, perhaps blessedly, very little to see of Seren's apartment past Seren herself. With door only cracked and half her body wedged into it, part for the cat's sake and part unknowingly for his, Eion could not see much beyond glimpses of builder white wall and white popcorn ceiling. No crown moulding to cover the corners of the walls, no tiling to draw the eye and demand presence, no interesting angles or covetous decor. Seren lived in a dingy, dark box connected to a host of other dingy, dark boxes. And Tiberius had wriggled himself into this epitome of disappointment.

It was precisely like the cat to visit a dumpster. He looked back to Seren, to her cheap plastic frames and her incredibly long hair and her slightly faded shirt that said she actually did her laundry (which was more than he expected of this apartment's denizens, having smelled the undergraduate musk in the halls). She must've worn deodorant, too. Not completely animal, just unfortunate and possibly better suited to menial labor.

Eion did not smile in return. He quirked a brow, listening, even as his gaze traveled over her shoulder at times. It often returned to her eyes, possibly for just a second or two, before going elsewhere. The whole of him had that same inclination — his wrist turned inside his pocket, he shifted his weight about, his shoulders rolled or his feet readjusted themselves with quiet slaps of sandals. Quick nods here and there affirmed that he was actually listening. Only a brief, brisk annoyance lit his features when she apologized.

"He's prone to wonder. Mother lets him out sometimes and he inflicts himself on people like you." People with soft hearts and warm hearths and food to spare for portly, self-interested furbags with much more important tasks to finish, like finding senshi to awaken. Must not be worried about FIV, worms, or fleas. Hasn't asked about it. Though she probably has nothing worth caring about here. Cheap furniture makes fine firewood.

Eion crouched to spot a sliver of familiar puff between leg and door. "I'll put him on my shoulders. He hates carriers. Hates leashes and harnesses. Gets rowdy about it." Standing, Eion afforded a single shoulder shrug. "Why?" His inquisitive gaze settled on her, almost goading.

Beauty and the Beast got to meet for the first time and boy was it interesting! Tiberius couldn't help but be pleased with himself as he wound his way between Seren's ankles to peer owlishly out at Eion's delicate, stylish form while still respecting the sanctity of 'human leg is barrier' like a good kitty would.

"Mrowrl." He said in greeting, fluffing up and jamming the flat of his head against the back of Seren's knee, his purr kicking up a few notches. It was time to dance, to let his new girlfriend know that he did in fact know this human and wanted to be 'reunited' with them, but still liked her an awful look. A chorus of feline chirping and chittering began, the song of his people.

Perhaps standing on his hind legs and stretching a paw up to touch her butt would be convincing? Or he'd just get to touch her butt - either way, Tibby was gonna do it.

Seren felt a weird discomfort in the way the young man was gazing at her, and then away, unsure what was going on. Something about the way he stood, something about the way he looked over the place... It all led her to feeling judged and maybe coming up short. She had to control the urge to close her eyes, and part of her sang a soft song of gratitude for years of learning to control her reactions, or Eoin would see pain and hurt in those eyes.

Honestly, the way the cat gave her knee a short head banging was a little distracting, but also comforting.

Instead of reacting to his apparent judgement, she just listened to him speak. "Cats will do that, I have found, when allowed out. It's a good thing he has all that info on his USB-tag, it helps to know what's going on... And who to contact. I was worried, at first, that he might have health issues or allergies or something, that he would need medicine for."

She paused, and controlled the urge to sigh at herself, because she was rambling again, something that sometimes she gave in to when nervous or unhappy and trying to hide it.

The last comment, the hint of goading to that 'why' had her lifting her brows at the young man. "Well if you are not worried about it..." She was about to continue when she gave a slight eep in surprise at the feeling of a paw on her a**... She'd been groped by jerks before, but she had not expected a CAT to do that. "I... um. Uh." Her train of thought had been derailed for a moment, and she flushed while she pulled her thoughts back together. "I just was figuring out how to handle this, that's all."

She turned and crouched, scooping up the giant fluffball of a cat into her arms, giving him some soft good bye scritches, murmuring "Thank you for visiting, Tiberius. You be a good boy." She thought she was too quiet to be heard by the young man, but she was louder then she realized, so it was possible he DID hear her speaking with soft affection.

She then turned back to him, and held out the cat, eyes showing a hint of sadness. "Here he is... I hope your mother keeps track of him better."

A partial lie, but also a partial truth, for the cat's sake.

The humans were taking careful jabs at one another, Seren disapproving of his being allowed to wander because she didn't know that he was less a cat and more a sentient alien in cat form while Eion was being horribly catty about the fact that she didn't live in designer digs. Not everyone gives it up for cash, Smokestack. More's the pity too, then we mighta had salmon.

Tiberius miyawned as Seren picked him up, reaching out with both paws to touch her mouth oh-so-gently, his jet-engine purr going full-bore again. He would even knock his large head against hers, rubbing 'property of Tiberius' onto her with his cheek and perioral scent glands - not that she'd know, but any other cat that met her for a while would. To Seren, it'd just be affection.

Being handed over to Eion was annoying, even if his butt was supported. "Mrowrl." Claws undeployed, Tiberius didn't wait to be taken, he went right to his favorite place and sprawled along Eion's narrow shoulders as though he lived there - his massive fluff devouring pale neck like a burlesque boa.

Strange that you think everyone is falling apart at the seams, even cats. Says much about you. Eion remained quiet, only floating brows where Seren expected him to take her opinion into consideration. She spoke much, asked much less. Hers was not a curiosity about the world or the people in it, but a curiosity for how the people in it could recognize her in some small way. She wanted someone to pay her a pittance of love and she wanted never to ask for it. She and Aelius had that much in common. Man sees in the world what he carries in his heart.

"Come." Eion's gaze shifted to the cat who now traveled over shoulders. Both hands rose, fingers poised as if to catch Tiberius, as if the cat would inevitably stumble, but he settled with little complaint from body or fabric. Instead those hands clasped around a pair of paws each to secure his burden for the ride.

Eion passed a moment of consideration. "He'll be back, probably. He always finds a way out." Turning, he spared the cat a knowing glance. "Seems he likes you.

"Take care." Eion did not wait for reciprocation, nor for prolonged goodbyes or any last-minute hopefuls from Tiberius. Down he went through that drab hall, down dingy stairs, passing tasteless walls. Better that he spent the rest of his glamour in a place more worth his time.
