"I'm not worried about myself." But he had other people in this war he cared about. Senshi and Negaverse alike. He was hesitant to name them, though. Gevaudan reminded him painfully of Thraen and some of the others he'd encountered, and they all worried him.

He didn't miss where that sentence went. "Who are you worried for then? I'm just out to hurt the enemy. You wouldn't happen to be a traitor, would you?" He asked, smiling.
"Because that isn't so bad."

He blinked, frown deepening a bit. "No. I just don't think anything in this war is as black and white as some of the people are painting it." That had been his experience, at least. Which wasn't saying much, he knew, but he wasn't doing to react beyond that experience based on word of mouth and what amounted to rumor. Any story he'd heard came from someone that heard it from another someone, and so on and so forth. It wasn't very accurate, to to him. "I'm not going to murder someone that's not trying kill me." Wherever else he might waver, that at least he stood firm on.

Baikal stepped back from that reaching hand even as Gev's fingers curled back and away from him. He didn't trust the other knight. "If I had to, I guess," he conceded unhappily. "But it hasn't come up, and I'm not going to go looking for trouble."

"Then why are you patrolling? The whole thing about a patrol is that you are looking for trouble." He said, smiling as he didn't get the other knight's logic.

"Maybe that's what it is for you," he countered, frowning down at the other man. There was something just so off-putting about him, something that struck him as wrong. It set the page on edge. "I was attacked by a youma, my..friend was attacked by a youma." He didn't want to say brother. "It happens all the time, but if I'm out I can stop it." It didn't matter to Baikals that they might have been fallen knights. Saving a life was saving a life, it didn't matter who was the predator.

He rolled that crazy thought in his head. "Well then, why aren't you looking for youma? If a youma attacked your friend then maybe in the distance there was a knight who was just waiting for a youma to fall into their lap instead." He looked around and then back at the knight.
"Not much point hunting youma. They are just trying to eat."

"I-i do." He didn't think he could frown any more deeply, in all honesty. "And I don't care if they're trying to eat, we're their food. Us and our families." There was absolutely something wrong with this knight.

"Yes, but it's just energy. They aren't ordered to take starseeds anymore. Well, not the feral ones. The bigger ones are no different than officers and we'll, they act according to their own discretion." He thought of the few he met rather fondly. "But they don't have any choice. It's starseeds or die. It wasn't like they were given a choice on that matter. Not even the feral ones. It's like blaming a wolf for needing to eat meat."

Baikal snorted, eyes narrowing at the other knight's so-charitable opinion of the ravenous beasts running amok through the city. "And if a wolf was in the city attacking people, it'd have to be stopped as well." His tone implied that that should have been obvious. That the concept of youma just being misguided officers was ludicrous. The part that really sucked was that he knew they used to be people. "Whatever they might have been in the past, they aren't that anymore. They've been reduced to monsters that run around trying to hurt people."

"Well, if you put it out of the woods without a handler then yes. You might think that way. Both sides are justified. Both sides have cause to fight to survive. It's just picking a side and feeling which one is right."
He sided with the wolf.
"We're just oh so lucky to not be able to create more weapons on our side to help us fight our enemies. They do. The DMC has their arsenal of wraiths. The Negaverse has the youma. And this side just has an over slightly motivated agents."
And he looked at Baikal. "Aside from that, anything else new." He asked playfully.

At least in the case of youma Baikal knew exactly where he stood, and it was firmly between them and anyone they might try to hurt. Everything else was considerably more tricky, but at least in that he was sure. The shift in tone was abrupt and unsettling and Baikal answered automatically in the negative. "No, nothing." Even if something had been going on he wouldn't have shared it with this man. He just didn't sound like a knight, or anyone else he'd talked to on the order side.

"Wouldn't you know more than me, being a knight?" Logically it meant he should have been at it longer, knew more people, had a better grasp of what was going on in the war. He'd been holding his tongue on verbalizing his unease over this whole conversation, but it was getting harder and harder not to just say something.
