It wasn't like Ujana to be nervous, or the restrain herself this way, and Padma gave her a knowing look the moment that rigidity took over her face. She recognized that expression - it was one that she and Ujana normally shared when their father started his fussing. She still felt it was best to go back, but she did slow her pace, so they weren't barreling back towards the settlement, as much as taking a leisurely stroll, arm in arm, through the downy sands, changing their direction so they took a more meandering pace - going close to the town, for safety, without heading straight home.

It would, at least, give the pair a bit longer to chat, and give her sister her freedom for just a little longer.

"Right." Padma intoned, gently, listening curiously. She couldn't say that she'd experienced a lot of taverns - maybe a small one, in Sauti, but not so much here in Tale.

For a brief moment, Ujana fell silent, as if reflecting on her memories, and Padma smiled, only too happy to let her remember - only, when she spoke again, her eyebrow ticked slightly, and she was shocked at the words. "Hey, don't think that." She scolded, slapping the top of Ujana's hand, lightly. "Dad's a mess - and I might as well be a child, with how little I know the world! You're fantastic and brilliant and beautiful, and you're going to be the best damn innkeeper in the world."

At first the change in pace went unnoticed by Ujana. She continued with her near pouting looks, chuffing in a way that was only cute when employed by pregnant women and dogs. The warrior absentmindedly licked at her lips, lapping up remnants of her sticking treat as she meandered along beside her twin. Going through town these days was both exciting and extremely awkward; folks either didn't know her at all, or knew of her, simply because they were gossiping old biddies. Uquin's other daughter; the one that got away.

She couldn't find it in her to wear that title with anything other than pride. Occasionally, when word of some misdeed made it back to her family, and Padma inevitably gave her 'the look', she felt shame but for the life of her Ujana couldn't find it in her heart to feel the same when it came to Uquin. Uquin just always had an air about him like a man who needed excitement, but Padma...Ujana wanted to wrap her up and hold her close....as well as push her out to the wolves from time to time.

Being at home was confusing, to say the least.

"You're fantastic and brilliant and beautiful." She turned those words right back around on her twin, unwilling to let Padma think so little of herself. "And that's tavern keeper; not an innkeeper. Some inns serve drinks, but I don't do that breakfast in bed thing."

Ujana mulled on her words. At best she'd contemplated having some sort of a home built above it, so that she could raise the baby in peace but also have him close when she worked without throwing her offspring into a bar. Of course it would have to be big; big enough to fit two alkidike, and a gaggle of earthlings, if her family were to ever visit.

"Dad's never going to visit, is he? It's probably pretty stupid, but I have this feeling that once I go to Jauhar that's it." She made a slicing motion through the air with her hand, and let it fall to her side. "But...it makes me really glad to know I'll still have you, Padma. That the kids will have you." Whether she meant Ariya's daughter, as well as the child in her womb, it wasn't clear; for all Ujana knew, she could have even been talking about future children.

As her words were thrown back at her, Padma puffed out her cheeks and reached up to pinch at Ujana's arm - only to be met with solid muscle. Ah- right. She dropped her hand, and instead propped it against her hip. "Ah- tavern keeper." She huffed softly at the correction, but wasn't truly annoyed by it - it was just one reminder that she didn't, really, know the world and all of its seemingly infinite differences. In the 'real' world, would people be offended by her ignorance?

She hoped not.

But... as Ujana continued, Padma looked at her, furrowing her eyebrows and patting her hand, gently, against her shoulder. "Yeah - yeah, sis, you'll never get rid of me." She promised, looking infinitely serious. "And he'll visit you! I'll drag him to Jauhar myself, if I have to! But --
but as long as you tell him now, before you go, he... I think dad'll have time to get used to it.
" She hoped. Uquin was... hard to read, honestly, but ... she had to have faith that, with how happy he was with Ujana's return, that he wouldn't abandon her, just because she moved away from home.

Ujana sidled up closer to Padma, if such a thing were even possible, and slipped an arm around her twin's lithe waist. If she were any smaller Ujana might be able to break her with a flex of her bicep, but Padma's apparent 'fragility' was also part of her charm. She was pretty in a way that the women in fairy tales were; ethereal, tiny, and full of potential, even if they couldn't see it themselves. Just because one twin had gained the upper hand for the moment, seeing the world for what it was at a younger age, didn't mean that the other wouldn't soon surpass her with twice the fanfare.

Ujana couldn't wait.

"I plan on it; I'd really like him to spend some time with Ariya too, next time she visits, so they can get used to having each other around. She's not familiar with earthlings, he's not great around alks; I'm sure it'll be just fine." She smirked. Honestly, she was more afraid of silence in this potential future 'meeting' than anything negative. At least, if they got it all out, it could be worked through. Simpering feelings and tampered aggravation would only come out like toxic fumes later.

"Speaking of meeting people, when are you going to bring someone home?" Now that they were passing into the settlement Ujana was opening looking at everyone coming and going, assessing their 'worth' as potential partners. Did Padma already have someone she was sweet on? Had anyone in this village caught her attention, or maybe it was a foreign lover?

Oh spirits, that was a meeting Padma definitely didn't want to be present for. Though... it was somewhat comforting to have confirmation that at least Ujana was familiar with his particular feelings on the subject, and wasn't walking her lover into a tense situation absolutely blind.

The twin shook her head, but slipped her arm as far as she could around Ujana's pregnant middle, hugging her back warmly.

Then she ruined it. Padma threw her head back with an audible groan, drawing her unoccupied hand down her face. "Don't you start that -- not you." She whined, glowering at her sister.

They were home - but, as they neared the tree and prepared to settle back down, she prepared herself for Ujana's torturous teasing. Maybe this was her price to pay, for luring her bored sister back indoors?

Ah... well, at least I know she's safe. She thought fondly. Besides - the topic of her love life was bound to bore her sister, soon enough.
