With the mood lightening, Tristen reached out and started to eat as well. "This is delicious Menolly, thank you again." He spoke after swallowing. "And a lot of help. Star and Dameon have a rather large family. Oh! Niday and Dayht adopted a snake pae." He froze at Menolly's question, his eyes blinking in surprise
Had it really been so long? Did Kurt never talk about them?
"Uh...Yes. Yes actually. Sunny and I...have two girls. Merion and Adora." He moved his gaze away from her, guiltily now. He was a rather poor guest. Kept bringing up sad news. "I haven't seen Merion in a long time though. She went with Sunny when we separated." Raken was always more of a listener than a talker, and so he was more than content to simply let the two talk as he ate. Mention of Sunny however, was a sore spot for the fae.
Just full of fun conversations tonight.
He gave her hand a soft squeeze, just so she knew he was there as he cleaned off his plate. "How is Adora's daughter, Lorelei?"

Another pause at chewing, Tristen got another perplexed look. "Snake pae? A shifter?" Even asking that it didn't sound right. That was an awfully specific description. A lot had changed on the isle through her life time, it shouldn't be surprising different kind of pae exist now. The isle was richer for the diversity though saddier for having less Guardian followers. "I still remember the HQ when there were only angels, demons and fae. Seems like several lifetimes ago!" Some chuckle followed that, an edge of nostalgia.
Guilt settled in just about the time she reached for the desert to top off the lunch. "oh.." Her voice quite as the truth was laid out. "I didn't know.." Looking between the two males, one angel tried to purge the foot that she just put in her mouth.
Raken soothed her, earning a grateful smile, as he added a bit more information. "I have a great niece?" Excitement pitched again as her desert was left on the plate. "Congratulations to you and Adora! Oh please send my love back when you go home!" Was Lorelei a baby? Maybe she'd like a stuffed alpaca?

Tristen quickly shook his about the 'shifter' inquiry. "That would make more sense, but no. Its hard to say where exactly they came from." Unlike most of the pae on the Isle, he was one of the few who had actually made contact with them. "I don't know if they existed beforehand and we just never knew. Maybe a creature from Dragnid. But they took over Venus' Temple one day. Adora and I both fought a hard battle to get it back. They look like big snakes with arms, some have powers." It was the day he met Harmonia. Her wings damaged and in trouble, he leapt to her rescue. He only wished he'd been there sooner to prevent her injuries.
"But Dayht's and Niday's girl seems a lot nicer than those pae. Any child reared by Dayht is going to turn out alright." Another bite of food, and he began eyeing the bread. Slowly a hand moved towards the delicious loaf. "Adora is wonderful! She's kind and brave. And Lorelei is gorgeous. A touch shy, but lovely all the same. You'll have to meet both of them." His fingers wrapped around a slice of bread and quickly brought it back to his plate. He had assumed the lines of Menolly about the snake pae. That they weren't actually snakes. At the mention of a battle, his eyebrows rose. His brother, Tristen, fought? When did his goofy, absent minded sibling, become a warrior? "Dayht I could see taking pity on a child, but Niday permitted it? And when was this fight? I didn't hear anything about it." He really was missing a lot down below.

Listening intently, Menolly absentmindedly reached for the bread again. Only, as he mentioned the Dragnid the treat was ignored again. Her body tense for a moment at its name. An entire life time of her parents telling her to stay away from that place, that it was evil left a mark. She could almost hear her father's voice telling her never to go there.
Reminder of Raken was there did a lot calm her down. "Venus? Who is that? The isle has temples?" Her head bobbed just a bit as she hummed the tune to one of her Guardian's praises, the one used to help children remember all the guardians. Nope, she wasn't mistaken, why would there be a temple to anyone but one of the Guardians? There was something big she was missing. A few somethings big.
"Wow." Her voice carried marvel at his feats of battle against what sounded like a very scary opponent. "I am glad you came out of that okay." He appeared fine, so it was an easy assumption. Finally getting the bread in her mouth, she looked between Raken and Tris taking the backseat to listen and finally enjoy the treat.

After telling his harrowing tale, he took a bite of the bread he had grabbed. Oh, it was delicious. With Menolly such a good chef, he was beginning to see why Raken would have her around.
Were they actually a couple? Raken hadn't let go of her hand since the mention of Kurt. Was uncharacteristically sympathetic of him. The demon wasn't known for good bedside manners. "Oh...I'd say quite a few seasons ago. Over two venus parties. She's the Goddess of Love I believe? There's alters all over the isle, but she gets her own temple. I frequent the Harmony one myself." Another bite, and more eyeing of the hands. "So...how long have you two been together?" He still couldn't wrap his head around Tris fighting anything for any reason. His younger brother had matured, but Raken couldn't see him as anything but a jokester wearing rose tinted glasses.
Mention of dieties though was enough to stop thinking about Tristen the Warrior, and now was Tristen the blasphemer. "...Going. To the temples. The Guardians are the only force you should honor." He had a brother who was a faun and another brother who worshiped false idols, great. No wonder the isle was in chaos.
Well, that was a question. The real question in it, was whether they were together at all. The length of time was moot. He hadn't put a name to what they were, as it was an admission of failure. But he'd be disrespecting Kurt by not. "Shy of four seasons." He finally admitted, placing the timeline shortly after their first night together. Because they hadn't officially stated they were together, there wasn't an exact time that they were. But that day Menolly had sent the letter, and it was after Zolfie's letter that she moved in. Wasn't long after that he shared the bed rather than sleeping on the floor.

Politely she ate her bread keeping her eyes on the Fae talking nonsense. Raken earned a concerned side-eye at one point. Goddesses? What in the name of the Guardians was going on down there? Not one to judge, it was hard not to decide she needed to beg the guardian's forgiveness for Tristen's transgressions. The poor Fae had fallen so far by the temptations.
"There is a spare house next door, If you'd like to stay a few days I can show you around the isle, some lovely sights you might not have seen." First one, to the home of the Guardians. A few days of seeing the miracles and he'll see the light.
Last bite down earned a more exaggerated swallow. Her cheeks darkened to a dusty purple as her smile blossomed. Together. Neither had pushed or encouraged a label on what they were, but they certainly were. Lowing her eyes finding a bite of shyness now.
Four seasons, the best four seasons she could ask for. Tragedy marked it, but so did so much happiness. Short of praising the guardians there was nothing that gave her more peace then laying securely in his arms. But that was probably more than Raken would want Tristen' to know. "A great four seasons," Her confession came looking right at the Demon of her heart. It was hard to say she'd trade anything for what she had.
This was the peace of a guardian's blessed relationship. Looking back to Tristen all she could do is hope the Guardians would bless him with something like what she had. He'd know true happiness.

Oh, he hit a nerve. It would make sense that a pae whose devotion was enough to blow up a whole civilization wouldnt take to other religions. He looked over to Menolly, wondering exactly which sights she was referring to. Considering she brought it up right after Raken chastised him, he could surmise. "Oh thank you for the offer. But I hadn't planned on staying long. I don't like leaving the girls for long."
He was surprised at the answer. He wasn't actually expecting Raken to provide a straight response. And even more surprised they were an actual couple. "Oh... Wow. That's awesome! I'm so happy for you two!" Especially since Kurt wouldn't murder either of them. Not that the price for it was worth it, but it was the truth.
He nodded at Tristens decline of Menollys invite. He understood not wanting to be away from your kids.
Her addition to their time together softened his heart, and he gave a small smile to both her and Tris. Hard to believe anyone would enjoy his company. "It has been nice. Menolly has provided good conversation and welcomed assistance around the house." high praise from the demon, as he typically liked being alone. To prefer conversation to that was a complement to her character.

Accepting the decline, though no where near ready to give up helping him see the light once more, she remarked, "Of course, I am so glad you had the time to visit." No children of her own, she could only imagine. The slight dusty blush to her cheeks sent the imagine to more literal. Would that be her fate someday? Would the guardians see their hearts and grant them children?
She'd never asked how Raken felt about them, certainly neither of them acted like they wanted to prevent the option. All she could do was wait. Due to the family connection she offered, "Have you visited the Ranch? Zofie sounds lovely, I am sure it would be a good family vacation." If she'd ever see the place, Zofie's letter made it feel like a second home waiting for her if they ever got there.
Praise showered like water of flowers bringing out the sun and the blooming smile all the more.Giving his hand a squeeze, the angel stood from the table to start cleaning it up. One more small gesture, a hand on his own shoulder lingering for a few moments as she passed out of affection. "There is no where I'd rather be." And no one else she'd rather be with.

With the bread eaten, now the strawberries called to him. There were definite Perks to loving in the City. He wouldn't mind it of it didn't mean being so far from the bulk of the family. He reached and took one of the more large berries. "I... Haven't I'll admit. I know it's a bad excuse, but I've been so busy. I've taken to mentoring a young -" He abruptly bit his tongue before faun could leave his lips. No need to have Raken freak out about spies again. "teenager. He didn't seem to have any parents around and so I've been checking in on him. Didn't even know how to talk." Not a lie. No lies were in that statement, just a bit of omission.
He quickly ate the strawberry, and took up the remaining before Menolly swept up the plates. "Maybe we can arrange our next reunion there though? It's so rare to see everyone all together."
As the angel began to pick up the dishes, he took the cue to assist her. Standing up, he began to gather the utinsels when he caught the slight hesitation. He did not relish being paranoid, but he couldn't help it given his situation. What was that pause? Was his own brother hiding something?
No. If he started doubting family, and Tristen of all pae, then he truly was too paranoid and was approaching insanity. Maybe the fae really just had a mind blank and was just searching for the word. "I don't know when I'd be able to attend that... But I recommend it for everyone else. Mom would have liked us to keep in touch."

Pausing midstep, Menolly looked over to Tristen well after his pause. Polite listening frozen while her heart ached, "The poor boy, no parents? Who would abandon a baby like that?" Her grip on the plate increased a bit as the corners of her lips fell.
Shifting the plates in her hands, she finally finished her task of putting them in the sink to be cleaned. Worrying the dishes would just risk breaking them. A soon as they were safely away, her free hands moved to rest above her heart. "Its good of you to look in on the child." Every baby should have the loving, Guardian blessed home like she had as a young girl. It wasn't a question, in the same place she'd have taken the child in. However, already a teen there were probably good reasons why he hadn't done so himself.
"I can't speak for Zofie but from the sounds of it, she is just the angel to welcome a large group." Raken's answer about his own attendance promoted her to echo, "I'd go if Raken did. Some day, its good to take time to relax and enjoy family. " The idea of leaving his side for anything more than her work for the Guardians was intolerable.

He shook his head in response to Menolly, her own heart ache echoing in his. "I can't imagine. I don't think he remembers anything about them, though his conversation capabilities are...limited at best." He stood up while rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'd love for you to meet them! We're a big family, mom had a big heart. When you can of course." And now back to the awkward stuff.
"Hey Rak... Now that dinner is done. I'm only here for a little bit, and I'd really like something to tell everyone as to...why. I can't wrap my head around it. What happened?"Menolly, meeting the family? That was a large step. Thankfully that wasn't something he had to worry about at that time. Who knew when he'd be able to leave the City.
He gently placed the plates in the sink after her. He'd clean them after Tristen left. "One day I received a note. A missions on behalf on the guardians." He exhaled slowly. "It detailed how the faun were behind the kidnapping of a child. My mission was supposed to be a recovery...I didn't even know anything about a bomb until I met my contact. But it was simple. The bomb would go off, and I'd rush in and rescue the girl." The demon met Tristens gaze head on. Someone with weaker resolve would look to hide, but he stood by the choices he had made. He trusted the Guardians, and that was all there was. "But I misjudged how powerful the blast was. I was too close, and I was knocked out. I woke up in the City and been here since."
And when he woke, he had given Malek a notice. And then Malek went missing.

Holding her hand still thinking of the poor child, her wings drooping lower. What must have happened to the parents? Were they hurt and had to leave him or were they heartless and didn't care? Right as the thoughts had her sinking, she perked right up.
Instanly her wings were back and nested proudly against her back, "Oh I'd love to meet them!" Jumping once with her hands clapped together she excitedly followed that, "I have to meet Adora, she family! Oh and her daughter! Zofie is close to family for me, she was close to my dad." Tristen could meet Zofie and one day she could meet Adora! "I can't wait, some day when we can go down there for a big get together. I'll bet there will be even more family around by then!" More children for Adora maybe or one of his other siblings?
Herself? Shaking her head at that one she tried to banish the idea. Well, at least during the day time.
Oh, the mission. Idea of harming children hurt her deeply but the Guardians were never wrong. In so, as he started talking, she took a place right next to him standing in proud support not wavering from her faith in him or the Guardians. He smiled at the thought of how nice the reunion would be. And Zofie sounded like a delight to meet.
But the airy nature of the atmosphere disappeared as Raken began talking. Menolly fell in beside him, obviously already aware of the tale. She was okay with all of this? His brow furrowed. "What about the girl? Did they get her? Do you know...do you know you hurt...faun children...with that blast?" He didn't like this. He hated asking these hard questions of his brother. Raken, who he most respected. The eldest, the wisest, the one everyone counted on in the family. "I just...why didn't you stop when you realized it was a bomb? You must have known what it meant."He appreciated Menolly's support more than he realized he would. While he was resolute in his actions, he did not like that look of confusion and betrayal in Tristen's eyes. Like this was a personal slight to the fae and not to the faun.
But to the lover pae, in a way it was. Too big of a heart. "I don't know for certain. But I was informed my mission was a success. I was aware of the consequences setting off the device meant." A pause, letting the information hang in between them. "I do not take any joy in it. But what if that child had been Adora? Or Chal? A line had been crossed first by the faun, and the Guardians judged this the best course of action." He shook his head slowly, hoping his non-devout sibling could possibly understand. "I don't know their reasoning. But I don't have to. I know their plan is far more complicated than I could grasp, and they know the best course of action for all of us." He had to believe in them. Now more than ever, he had to believe in the Guardians, and so he did. "I know it was the right choice...and I am willing to shoulder the consequences of carrying it out." It was a heavy burden. The knowledge that he hurt potential innocents. To have to cut out his family to keep them safe and lock himself away in the City for seasons upon seasons. But even knowing then what he knew now, he would still have done it.Evilsilverdragon Ranch would have its hands full handling all the family!

Subtly putting her hand on Raken, Menolly made herself physically felt while remaining silent. Tristan speaking of children being harmed hit deep. One hand came up to rest an inch away from her chest right above where her heart clinched. Emotion warred in her golden eyes, molten with feelings too at odds to quell. Swallowing them down, she took comfort in being beside Raken so he didn't have to see.
Going after the child was the right thing to do, that faun had even thought to do something like that in the first place was baffling. What happened to the world of peace she'd always known?
The world had to be worse now then it had ever been. Blessed were they that the Guardians showed Their love through action. If there was any guardian faithful out there who could handle that task, it was Raken. Well, her father would have done just the same. Both males had faith to be admired.
Her heart was just too soft to cause harm to children knowingly. In the face of Raken's defense of his action all she could do was flush a deep gray. Her face warmed with emotion that only her heart could sort out. Pride, shame in herself, admiration, love or some chimera of several could all be appropriate. There was time to sort it out, the current conversation didn't need her words.
Holding silent, but ever there for her Demon, Menolly set upon working herself out. Did the conversation need input? That was another thread to follow.
Rather than risk getting between two brothers working their own feelings out about the past, she decided to remain silent after all. Keeping a smile settled on her face, the angel listened to both men before offering a silent prayer to the Guardians for understanding. May they both see things from eachother's perspective and walk way still close. As the Guardians Will be done.Tartara Seabreeze Wall of text XD Decided to let menolly work her feelings out while the brothers talked theirs out. heart

That was so...so Raken. He was unaccustomed to feeling anger, he just wanted to take his brother and shake him by the shoulders. Just shake all that calculated reasoning out of his head so he'd have to feel something for once. How could a pae as smart as his brother just follow some others plan just like that? Guardians or not. If mom was here, she could've talked some sense in him.
His gaze flicked to Menolly whose hand gently rested on his brother. She seemed to have a big heart. And yet she stood with Raken. He just didn't understand this blind faith if it meant hurting others. But obviously Raken believed that this was in the best interest of pae. Hurting one to save another. He couldn't justify hurting small innocent children though, even to save their own. "...I understand why you did it. But I can't excuse it." Menolly's hand was warm, comforting. He knew she struggled internally with his actions, just as Tristen was. The fae looked physically in pain. "I know. I don't expect you to. I don't regret my actions, I did what needed to be done. But I'm sorry to the whole family for putting you in a difficult predicament. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone is angry or even hates me." He reached up to place his hand on top of Menolly's.
