The very thought that him being a 'traitor' for just trying to help sat very uneasily in Fettelite's gut.
Maybe the conversation was taking a turn for the worse... And maybe it was time for him to simply stop talking and back away.
It honestly would be for the best, especially if Crocoite might have any sense to report him for showing signs of weakness and incompetence. That was the very last thing Fettelite needed, especially after the last punishment he had received.
"You do have a point, I think... And I think maybe I should leave you to your tracking. Wouldn't want to fall behind on my quotas or give anyone any reason to think I'm any less deserving to be here than someone else." It wasn't meant as a slight or rudeness to Crocoite, but he did stand up straight again, and took a few steps back.
"I uh, I hope your tracking of this Royal goes well... And uh... Well, if you need any help, or youma bait, I suppose I can do that for you."

Crocoite looked a little surprised by the sudden retreat, thinking his must have struck a cord. It only made him more interested in the other soldier, shaking his head and wondering just how far each of them would get, with their very different methods.
"Just be careful out there. You never know who might be watching," he said, mostly being a jerk by ending the conversation with something ominous. But in a way, he did mean the first half of it. If the younger soldier wasn't careful, he'd get himself killed pretty quickly.
Or worse, depending on the situation.
He nodded his head, a casual good bye, and let Fettelite leave as he wanted, without giving him any more to worry about. Maybe he would do well, being nice to others, but that was just not the way Crocoite wanted to pursue his power. No, at the end of the day, it was just a lot more interesting to see fear and pain, and, for him, to push someone as far as they would go to get out of such suffering.

"I'll be careful, promise!" Careful for sure. While for some reason it was incredibly rare for him to actually run into another person, Fettelite was slowly realizing he needed to be far more careful with his thoughts in words.
Who knows who would turn him in for his hesitation? If someone would go and report that his morals weren't perfectly lined up with that of the Negaverse?
It didn't seem like Crocoite would do such a thing to him, but again, who knows? Better safe to wander away, than stay around any longer.
"Please have a good night! And good luck!" And with that, he started to head back the way he came, mind filled with worry, but honestly, too stressed to focus on it too much. There was still a quota to fill, and he was in no shape to have that hanging over his head.
