"Mmhmm." Obviously the little one would be biased and Verosh could understand the frustrations of earthling limitations. His father was a gifted healer certainly but when he had tried to battle with the Alks it had left him maimed. A bad leg for life...it was one of the main reasons Verosh strove to perfect himself as an Alkidike warrior because he refused to ever worry someone as his father had worried both him and his mother. I will not be weak. Just the thought alone made his fingers dig into the ground sharply, his nails getting dirt beneath them from the sudden movement.

But let the child say what she wanted. He believed in his words and wouldn't let some tantrum sway his heart. At least it was quiet now - wait a second. "For the love of Aisha!" Verosh swore as he realized what had happened and instantly rolled over so that he was standing and then diving into the river. The hybrid kicked out against the current and opened his eyes beneath the water so that he could try and find the blurry shape of the girl.

Reaching forward his arms wrapped around her as he pulled her tightly against his chest and twisted so that a rather large rock up ahead would hit his back rather than her. Wincing Verosh kicked so that they both could emerge. They were still in the water but he was trying to get them to shore, something that would have been easy enough if he wasn't dazed from the sharp impact of the rock. He just hoped the girl in his arms would be okay. Even if she was obnoxius she still was just a child and he did not want that death on his conscious.

As he reached out to touch the shore Verosh laid her down so that he could make certain that she was still breathing. He leaned over her face, his blonde dreads dripping water while rose tinted water slowly made rivets down his own back, "You okay?"

It all happened so fast that Ika barely remembered it. One minute she was harassing that stupid guy and the next her lungs were screaming. In a rush all the air was being pulled out of her, ripped from her very blood, and as hard as she tried to get back to the surface Ika's little body just kept getting pulled along. She fought, madly pushing up in a panic until things started getting fuzzy and -

All of a sudden she was gasping. Ika took sharp, greedy breaths and allowed herself to be tugged along, still too panicked to realize exactly where she was being move to. Or more importantly, how.

It was only when she felt solid ground underneath her that Ika started to question things, and when she looked up, at the wet boy who'd pulled her out, it dawned on her. "Y-y-eah, I'm fine...." She was shaken up and when she coughed there was more water than anything. From her position she couldn't see his injury, and for a moment, it was taking all she had to just stay calm.
Ika was close to tears and her eyes kept drinking back up the bank, to where her brother should have been. He wasn't there anymore; had he moved on?
But he wouldn't be far, right?

Suddenly running away from him just seemed like a bad idea.

"Cough it all out." He reached out a hand as if to smack her back in assistance but quickly lowered it back to his side. She was fine, she had coughed up plenty of water on her own. She had even responded to him so the fear of death was gone, at least for Verosh. If she was going to be skittish afterwards then that was her own inner struggle not his. He could just back away, leave her to get home and go back to his own home. It would be so easy to do such a thing.

Verosh sighed under his breath. Unfortunately he wasn't raised to be like that, not when his father was a healer who constantly preached kindness for all. Of all the things I did not wish to deal with today. He grumbled silently to himself before deciding to show some leniency.

"Catch your breath. I'll grab my belongings and walk you you wherever your family is waiting." Once he had taken her home he could worry about why his back was stinging then. For now he would focus on one annoyance at a time.

Ika grabbed at her chest, subconsciously massaging her traumatized lungs. It had been a quick, sudden exposure, one that had filled with water just as fast as it had been expelled, but the whole act left her aching. Most of her bravado was gone; she didn't want this guy to see her shaking, but she was visibly subdued by the whole thing. That had been just a little too real, too fast and it ....

....where was her brother?

She nodded and in her efforts to look around for Eurig spotted something entirely new; little patches of pink water, mixed in with the regular stuff, falling off his back...

"You're hurt!" Ika scuttled closer, dragging her knees on the stones and grimey muck. She placed her hands on his shoulder, trying to push him down so that she could better see his back. "Let me see! It might be bad."

His weapon and clothing was thankfully nearby but before he could reach his belongings Verosh found himself assaulted by small hands, "H-hey!" With the slick mud of the shore beneath his bare feet it was not too difficult to knock him off balance and the apprentice found himself getting on his knees to save his face from falling straight into muck, "I'm fine." He grumbled through clenched teeth that barely masked the sharp inhale of pain from the sudden movement, "I probably just got a scratch when I was in the river."

If one would want to call a long stretch of red skin a "scratch" that was. Whenever he had caught the rock on his back a sharpie edge of it must have cut a nice, jagged line between his shoulder blades while rubbing the rest of the area a raw pink. Stubborn as he was Verosh denied any pain as he glanced back towards the youngling, "Are you satisfied? I'm alive, I can move and my belongings are right there. We can take you home and then I can take care of myself." Stubborn til the end, right? It didn't matter how red the wound was or if slowly clotting blood was still oozing from the opening to create that pink watery mix. All that mattered was getting the child to her family before anything else happened.

Ika kept on shoving and pushing until he was eventually brought to his knees, exposing the vast extent of pale flesh to her eyes. She curled her lip, and leaned back enough to try peeping at his eyes, "That's not a scratch; that's a big ol' cut!" One she didn't know what to do with. Short of poking at it, which Ika found herself horribly tempted to do, the little one was at a loss. None of it looked good, and she knew it had to hurt, no matter how much he pretended it didn't.

"No way! You're gonna stay right here. My brother's up on the road and he can help; he's strong, we'll get'cha fixed." She gave his shoulder a few good, 'helping' slaps before making her way up to her feet. Eurig was going to be really mad at her for this one, but she couldn't just leave this guy.

Well, she could, but if Eurig saw him stumbling out of the woods she'd be in even more trouble.

"Just hang on, and I'll be back." Ika wasn't sure if he would stay or not, but she ran anyway, taking the embankment in big, hurried steps. The thorns and brambles seemed more like an obstacle now than any kind of good sign. They were keeping Eurig away from her, and now that she was screaming her brothers name, alerting him to her, she could only hope that he was close.

What a stubborn child. Verosh could only shake his head as she darted away from him while yelling for someone. Surely since she was making such a racket it would mean that any of her family nearby would find her. And she certainly wasn't going to the river again so it meant he didn't have to worry about her drowning any longer. If she was safe then he was fine to leave, right? The last thing he wanted to do was deal with anymore unknown earthlings. She would be fine. Verosh repeated that to himself as he scooped up his belongings and began to trudge away from the river and towards home. If anyone would come back to that shore they would find little to nothing to prove his presence had ever been there.
