Nambulite's nails caught them on the cheek; Larimar scowled and jerked back at a second's delay, bringing a hand up to feel it. He'd ripped the skin a little, but it was nothing that wouldn't be fine in a week, nothing they couldn't cover with a bandage - it's fine, I tripped and hit the wall with my cheek, it's just a scrape but I wanted to make sure - already planning a cover for that, as they would, as they had to.
"What, too fond of your style to actually hit me?"

Nambulite hissed. He would not go down so easily. He had to stay up and fighting! He had to! "Is that all? Come on, I've seen worse!" Well, no, not really. "Bring it on!" He was in a shoddy state. He really should not have been showboating and taunting the enemy.

"Very impressive." Larimar raised their eyebrows, lip curled. "Did your mommy teach you how to fight?" It was an impressive amount of verbal sneering, but it didn't distract from their disheveled hair or their slightly-shaking hands, fingers curled a little uncertainly; they were a lighting tech, not a MMA fighter, not even a hobbyist. There was such a difference between detail work and damaging other people it wasn't even worth counting them the same way.

Nambulite felt his will to fight slowly draining out of him. He felt so tired, so compelled to lie down and give up... if he could nap and fight or fight in his sleep, he would. But that wasn't a possibility, and so he had to keep doing. He made an approximation of a sharp jab, hoping that he could do something with that.

Sustained bouts weren't their best opportunity to shine; Larimar knew that, now, but their hands were still a little shaky and they were breathing hard, and they took the jab from Nambulite to the chest, coughing. It was more - they weren't used to fighting against an opponent who was fighting back. Their chest hurt, anyways. If he got in another hit, they'd have to concede - they needed to sit, and breathe, and this was not a place for either of those things.

No! He couldn't give up now! Nambulite's ridiculous pride mandated that he stay up, or at least give it one last epic hurrah. Sucking in a breath and letting out his best war cry, he gave Larimar a heavy swing. This had to be it, it had to be!
He thought, for a moment, he could hear the victory music playing in his head, a mental "Ohhhhhh yessssss" above everything. He could do this! He knew he could! It was all or nothing, and he was going to attempt an epic reversal!

Physically they'd been a lot better, even just twenty seconds ago; nevertheless, after that hit from Nambulite they took a step back (only a little wobbly), took a couple of deep breaths, and sighed. "I'm done. I forfeit."
Larimar couldn't have fought after that, it wouldn't have been reasonable, it would have hurt; but there was a certain amount of pride they were able to keep by pretending it was voluntary.
(Their face kept curling into that expression of absolute disgust, anyways.)

 There were medical aid stations set up around the fighting ring, along with bottles of water and snacks to keep up stamina and nutrition. Aurostibite stepped over, waving a red flag.
"Round one, complete," he said. "Lieutenants, both of you have done well."
