"No not under me." he said almost cryptically, but he was out of breath now and could feel his shield really beginning to wane. He struck out again as hard as he could but he couldn't get the traction or force behind it.
Were there even wards here?

"Don't." Melvin warned.
He managed to find a stone under the mud and planted a foot against it as he aimed again. "Let's get this fight over so we can get back to being warm and dry and then ruin whoever is left in this contest."

"Don't what? It's true." he said. "It wasn't me you were with. Not ever." and he clenched his claws tight, the shot hitting him in the chest and knocking the air from his lungs with a crunch that he knew would bruise. His shield was getting weaker and weaker by the moment.
"I'm Dr Michaels."
And he didn't care about winning or losing, he just cared about the fight and about thrill of adrenaline in his veins.

Melvin went cold as he stared him down, moving through the muck and water till he got closer. "Whose fault is that then? Last I checked, gods don't ask for permission and neither did any of the others. If you dance to your little family tune then don't complain about the music you picked."
He whispered now. "You use to carve music. Now what do you do?"
And he fired again.

Lawrence didn't get a chance to answer at first as the projectile collided with his shield and in the instant between his shield shattering and the wards kicking in he went down and went down hard, landing on his side in the dirt, the air knocked right out of his lungs.
He couldn't speak for a bit, his breathing raspy as he regained his composure, giving Melvin a cool look, his pale blue eyes set against a mask of dark mud on one side.
"I behave." he said, furrowing his brows slightly. "And I take my medicine."
He smirked nonetheless. "You used to feel content."
"Now what do you do?"

He gritted his teeth at the question. Frowning, he walked over and moved his arms around Lawr to pull him out of the dirt and hoist him back up under his arm. "Frustrated, Mr. Good boy." He answered.
He moved over to Nash and breathed out. "I'm going to take him to the dorms, okay? I gotta get changed too." He said, looking over to Nash.

Peyton had been standing silently on the sidelines watching the whole thing, whistle hanging loosely from her lips. Of all the matches, this had been the one she'd been a little worried about. When it was over, and Melvin was standing there the winner, she let out a little sigh of relief, smiling to herself despite her role in all this. She was supposed to be impartial, but, well... She hadn't interfered at all, that counted. Melvin looked keen on getting out of the mud and taking Lawrence with him, and she moved before either could make it very far. "Congratulations, Melvin! You're moving on in the tournament, but after a well deserved break."  ROUND 1 BATTLE - PLAYER vs. PLAYER

Melvin had won, which was satisfying in and of itself. Really, any excuse to see Lawrence on his a** in the mud was pleasing, Nash lifting a brow as Melvin came over to him.
"Some serious a** kicking going on," he said airily, and leaned to peck a kiss to Melvin's mouth before grinning at him. "Nice."

Melvin frowned at Peyton. "Hey! What the hell with this field! We could have waited for a DRY one and not some mud pit. This was absolute bullshit." He said, voicing his frustration at looking like a mud snowman.
He turned his attention to Nash and smiled at the kiss. "Thanks for cheerleading. I'm going to get washed up and changed before I have to come back here. Meet after?" He asked, adjusting his grip on Lawr.

Peyton just grinned back at Melvin as he ranted at her before shouting back. "I'll cover any dry cleaning costs, sweetheart!

“I am right /here./“ Lawrence said as Melvin and Nash smooched right next to him. In an act of obvious pettiness he extended his muddy hand and wiped it on Nash. “Whoops.” He said flatly.

Melvin stared as Lawr smeared mud on Nash and knew it might get - pardon the pun - messy if he didn't do something.
"Well since that's done." He moved in to wrap a arm around Nash and kiss him on the cheek. "Get changed too and meet me back here."
He adjusted his grip on Lawr. "Let's get back to looking like people again." He told the blonde as he turned them around to head to his dorm room.
