(Corny via Slack)

Squirt? Aari laughed and shook her head. "He is doing well. He complains about being on the top floor of our apartment, but I know he is happy having his own space now." The apartment may have been high up and limited, but it was theirs.. and that made it special.

She looked back as the voice moved behind her, watching the man with gentle contemplation. "You dislike heights, and yet here you are on a roof," she mused with a giggle. "Don't underestimate yourself." A seamstress? "That is good. I know the fashion over on Belrea is a little different, so you both should have plenty of fun exploring over there in your special trades."

The concept of having a 'top floor' in anything was as foreign to Nyko as having others prepare his meals. He'd yet to have a room in an inn, let alone sleep somewhere where others might be staying below him. So far he'd gone from a pallet on the ground, to a beachside cot, to a stack of hay...I'll have a space of my own someday too. He just needed to be patient.

"It's not that far up, and besides, the view is best from here." He motioned to the stars with a vague turn of his hand.

Don't underestimate yourself.

Was he really doing that? Was Nyko capable of anything other than overestimation and a proud overstatement of his abilities? Being humble, underestimating his abilities...it didn't seem like him, but maybe that meant he wasn't the same. It really didn't feel like he was these days.

"What about you? You're back in Oba now, so where is life taking you?"

Smiling lightly, Aari took a moment to join in Nyko's position, lying back to look up at the coveted view. It really was nice to just lie down and look at the stars. She hadn't done it in quite a while.

Brow knitting at the question, she let out a long sigh as she considered her answer. "I am done letting life take me around, so I have been trying to take it myself. ..I still have much to atone for, and I am determined to make up for previous lack of action. My father is still a powerful man here, him and others like him, and I must bring that to an end." Her voice had gone quiet but firm. She was truly resolute in her goal. "I know I cannot change everything, but I will remain to help where and when I can for those who need it. For now, I know my place is here."

Aaricia's life seemed so much more...grand, than his. Like some sort of heroine riding in after being outcasted to take back the city from an evil king. And he supposed that while some of it was true, most of it was still grandstanding on his part. He certainly thought she would be more impressive riding something intimidating - a black Janarim, maybe? - ready to gut him like the piece of s**t he was.

"Tear it all out from under him, and start fresh. And when you've made your mark, I'll come back to make him. Then we can lord it over them for a change." It was a comforting enough thought for him. Selfish, but comforting. Proving his own self worth had been Nyko's goal from his very first moments and having Aaricia fighting her own battles just pushed him into fighting more for his.

Aari's gaze remained up at the stars, her mind mulling over Nyko's words. She had no desire to lord over anyone, but to be able to see those men no longer doing the lording either... That would be good. "When I am done... there will be no one he is able to look down on." Taking in a deep breath, feeling the weight of her cause as she always did when giving it fresh thought, she stretched her arms up toward the sky. "When you do return.. we will have to look at the stars like this again. Lying back without feeling the need to look over our shoulders will be the best reward." One day they would have that... She truly hoped so.
