December 25, 2017 (Back dating a bit)

Sitting in his bedroom, his legs drawn to his chest, he sat there watching the rain pitter and patter against the glass of his bedroom window. Watching as water droplets combined and streaked down the glass, leaving a trail of clear glass in its wake, a heavy sigh was let out. He missed being home, he really did, but he couldn’t stay there. He was still surprised his parents had let him move in with his aunt, uncle and younger cousin.

He’d had to explain to his parents why he wanted to leave Thailand, of course, but he couldn’t tell them the truth - it would break their hearts. He’d told them part of the truth, that he was having a hard time in school and his once best friend had taken to bullying him and it was bad - really bad. It was true, and it hurt so much that his best friend since childhood had turned on him, but he hadn’t told his parents that it was his fault - all his fault.

He couldn’t help that he found males attractive, that much he couldn’t blame on himself but rather on nature, it was just….finding his best friend attractive and slipping and telling him. He might have been half asleep, they’d been busy studying for hours, but that really hadn’t mattered. The words had still passed his lips and not just in front of his former best friend but other friends as well. Other friends that had joined in on the teasing and humiliation. Word was whispered and spread in their class, the speed at which was surprising, and by the end of the next day his class and his grade had turned on him.

Even now, sitting here in a foreign country and in a city so different from the one he’d left, he wondered which pain was worse? The hurt he felt over his friend's betrayal or the hurt over his treatment in school. It was hard to tell as the pain had all blended together and become one big cloud of pain and hurt which had loomed over him, suffocating him, till he’d finally gone to his parents.

He hadn’t even meant to go to them but he’d done it...he’d had to. He’d hit a breaking point and it was better than jumping off a bridge like he’d been considering, anything to stop the pain and to keep his family from finding out.

If he was gone than they wouldn’t get a call from the school, or anyone else, telling them what he was...they wouldn’t have to deal with the shame. That was part of his reasoning for wanting to jump, an end to it all, but instead his mother had called him while he’d been on the walk and that call had stopped him from reaching what would have been his final destination.

His mother, who loved him, had unknowingly saved him that night. It had brought him home and there he had talked to them and begged to go across seas to live with his mother's sister and brother in law. He would be good, he would go to high school and he would do well.

Smiling as thunder shook the walls, he had always loved thunder and lightning storms the best, New got up and headed towards the living room. The apartment had a small balcony attached the living room. His cell phone had been picked up, as he slid off his bed, and he stepped out into the rain in order to enjoy the storm. The rain pouring down, soaking through the long hoodie he wore was ignored, as he took pictures of the skyline of Destiny City. The lightning lighting it up in an almost scary, but epic, sort of way. The pictures were soon being posted to his twitter account along with a quick comment about the storm being amazing and thrilling.

He didn’t worry that his former friends would see his post, he’d blocked them on twitter. They wouldn’t go and make a new account just to watch him, he had left so that should be the end of it all. It had been so far anyway.

Tilting his head back against the glass sliding door he smiled up towards the night sky, just as another brilliant flash of light lit up the sky. Maybe this could be home...it was safer here. He just….he missed home and he missed his friends - he missed his best friend.

Raising his phone he turned around, so he could take a picture of the storm and himself with the skyline of Destiny City in the background. Another picture to post, another new memory - another step in a new direction. He had, for now, friends online. He’d make new ones in school...right?

January 28, 2018 (Back dating about three weeks/a month)

Again it was raining, so much rain, it dappled the clear plastic that hung over his head like a half dome. Little metal rods bent and curved as they kept the clear plastic in its shape, so the rain hit the top and rolled off down the sides - keeping him dry. The umbrella was simple, plain, and it allowed him to look up and watch the rain as it fell.

Crossing the street when the light turned he was heading to pick up food, his aunt and uncle had ordered food from a place which didn’t deliver as it was too close. Once across the street, only a few other people having crossed with him, he glanced down to his phone as the dot on the phone stopped moving - like he had stopped. Following the line on the map he continued on, ever glad for the GPS which helped him find his way.

This city was still so strange, so many places he didn’t know the location of and street names he didn’t know, couldn’t pronounce. School wasn’t that easy, and yet it was, the subjects weren’t so bad so long as he didn’t need to do any reading. Math, a subject he normally hated and wasn’t good in, was easy at this point when compared to the subjects he normally excelled in. He’d always been good in literature and writing. He was working on his English though, his aunt and uncle were making sure of that, he had a tutor to help him learn faster.

It was slow going though, it was very different from what he was used to, he missed the sights and sounds of home - he missed it all. But he had to remind himself that he couldn’t remain home...it hurt too much. Here he could be away from the hurt and he could move on - be happy.

Starting to move again, eyes moving between his phones screen and the shops he was passing, so he could try and remember things, Boon-nam found himself wondering if they were having better weather at home. He had been trying to sever most ties from Thailand, aside from talking to his parents, which meant not checking the news or the weather or other things. He needed to try and get better...to be happy again.

When the dot on his screen, representative of himself, reached the destination he glanced up again and turned to stare at the place he’d arrived at. No surprise...it was a Thai restaurant. His aunt and uncle had placed an order for food, for what he didn’t know, and had told him to order whatever he wanted when he got there...so with that in mind he pulled open the small establishments door and headed for the small podium so he could ask the female there for a menu. His english was...butchered and horrible, really horrible, it was lucky for him that she called for an older woman who spoke Thai and he could talk to her about what he wanted.

While the girl was Thai, the old woman had said as much, she didn’t speak Thai as she’d been born here and grown up here and her parents hadn’t taught her Thai - a shame. Having introduced himself to the older woman who he told his pick up order to, after having placed his own order, he was able to pay and sit down to wait for his own food.

It was once his own meal was prepared, and bagged, that he left. The old woman had engaged him in brief conversation, wanting to know a bit about him such as where in Thailand he was from and such. It was all simple, light, conversation that you might expect and he was happy to speak with the older woman.

When he left he set his GPS to get him home and headed for his aunt and uncle’s place so he everyone could get to eating - he was hungry.

Change was something you expected when you moved, especially to another country, but it seemed he was due to have his life completely turned upside down and fall down some rabbit hole. At least it seemed like that to him, considering magic was real and he now possessed it. It was still hard to accept and understand, because magic wasn’t supposed to be real, but he had magic and the little magic stick he had was proof of that.

He’d done his best to hide it from his family, he didn’t need them finding out, he was so new to it that even if they were willing to accept it he couldn’t explain it to them in order to help them - he still needed help himself.

Figuring his life had already changed enough, how much bigger of a change could he have? Boon-nam had decided on doing something he’d wanted to do but his parents never would have allowed. Not only that but his friends back in Thailand would have teased him for it, he was sure of it. He’d always wanted to get his ears pierced. He didn’t plan to go overboard, not like some people who got their faces pierced or who decided to make big holes in their ears, but a few studs or hoops was all he wanted.

So with that in mind, and figuring his life was already so different from back home, and no parents or friends to stop him the teen had headed for one of those tattoo and piercing shops and after deciding what he wanted was brought into the back so he could have his ear piercings done. It hurt, as he figured it would, especially with how close together they were but it was worth it. The end result, when looking in the mirror, was good..aside from how red and irritated the area was.

While looking in the mirror he finally got the idea to pull out his phone and snap a few pictures, while paying and getting the cleaning solution he posted them to his twitter account. He was sure his parents would spot the pictures, they followed him on twitter, but he figured his former friends from back home would never see his posted pictures. He was sure they didn’t look, they had after all unfriended him. It was safe to post them, he could handle his parents calling him and complaining about his decision to pierce his ears.

The walk, and bus ride, back to his aunt and uncle's place was interrupted by a pit stop for food - he was hungry. It was during the trip home that he discovered a new issue...he kept rubbing at his ears as if that would ease the heat in them that he felt. He also wondered how he was going to sleep as he tended to sleep on his right side, well he obviously hadn’t thought this through.

Cursing himself as he got home, for the hundredth time, he went to get a drink and settle himself at the dining room table to eat. There was no going back, he wasn’t taking them out, he would deal with whatever yelling from his parents came his way as well as whatever irritation sleeping on the new piercings caused. He was here and they were there and he could be himself here, away from the things which used to tie him down.

Laying half curled on his bed Boon-nam was laying on his side watching his laptops screen, a set of earbuds stuck into his ears. Thankfully for this drama he didn’t have to read subtitles, he disliked doing that but he was willing to for a good drama, this one was in Thai and while he didn’t know the area of Bangkok it was in he knew it was in that city as it had been mentioned. The uniforms the characters wore, as it features high school students, were similar to the one he’d worn in high school back home.

Shifting a bit, fingers running through his hair, he smiled fondly at the screen. He missed being home and dramas like this made him miss being home even more. It wasn’t just scenes on schools grounds and in homes but on the streets driving and walking...at places to eat that were set up on the side of the road. It reminded him of everyday life back home, he used to stop off at a small place on the side of the road nearly every day on his walk home from school.

There was a lot of he missed about being home...including his friends...including a certain someone. But he couldn’t go back and he was glad he was here! He might not have a lot of friends, like he had back in Bangkok, but he had December and he made up for it. They’d talked a lot over text messages, since his phone translated things for him, but there had also been that cherry blossom event at the park and the food, lots of good street food, that had been enjoyable and pleasant. December was his friend, that Boon-nam already accepted, and he wanted to spend more time with him. How to tell the other though? Language was still a barrier between them….

But there were ways to translate things and ways to say things which didn’t require words. So he had his ways of talking to the other and letting him know how much he meant to him. How did he want to go about it though? How to tell someone you really considered them a close friend? The only one you had here? And...the only one really, since he’d lost his friends back home.

While watching the drama he let his mind wander, just a bit, to various ideas on how to tell December how much he meant...and what they could do next time they spent time together...since the cherry blossoms had been the others idea. Maybe a movie this time? Even if he didn’t understand everything being said, a plot could still be easy to follow in some movies. Something simple perhaps?

It sounded like an idea, a really good one he hoped. As one of the main characters fell, right into the other main character, and landed on the gym floor he finished texting December to ask if he wanted to go out to see a movie soon...or maybe a movie at home, the second part of the idea came to him at the last minute.

November 18, 2019

When he’s left Thailand he’d stopped signing into his old social media accounts, wanting to avoid his former friends, but it wasn’t easy to just start up new social media accounts and make new friends on them. Even harder was to give up on his old friends, despite everything that had happened, it was hard to not want to peek at their lives and see how they were doing. Even if they’d hurt him...even though they weren’t talking and he’d moved because of them. He still wondered, often, and sometimes he would almost sign into an account,m typically facebook, but would stop just before clicking the sign in button.

Everytime though the doubt would come up, the fear of one of them spotting him logged in, and he’d log in using his new information. He didn’t take pictures of himself anymore, he didn’t want to somehow risk it, but he posted pictures of Destiny City, food he ate, and other various things. He had, over time, gained a few friends but no one he knew personally, not like before. It was distant but safe.

Tonight though was different, though it started off as usual, he had been going to sign onto his old facebook account and before he could do his usual - and change names. He sneezed and hit the sign in. He’d signed into his old account for the first time in two years.

At first Boon-nam had considered closing the tab, and signing out of course, but pictures of his old friends flooded his screen and he couldn’t help but look, scroll through them. They hadn’t blocked him...but why? They had hated him and teased him relentlessly.

His thoughts, and worries, were pushed aside as he continued to poke about facebook. Looking at pictures and reading what his former friends wrote, and former classmates, he got to catch up on things. So much time had passed and, at some point, he took his glasses off in order to wipe at his watery eyes. Everyone seemed to be doing well; and he was happy for that.

Clicking on names he pulled up their profiles in order to view more things, read more, it was like it once had been. He didn’t worry about being noticed by anyone who might be on, a ghost come back from the grave sort to speak, as his lips pulled up in a slight smile. It felt like he was back where he belonged and nothing bad was happening. It seemed like they’d all moved on, and perhaps forgotten him, and perhaps he could reclaim his original social media accounts and use them again as he once had.

Or maybe not. If he posted they’d notice him but if he signed in and just watched their lives, it was not stalking to him, he could continue to enjoy things. He’d post on his new accounts while viewing things on his old ones. It sounded like the best idea to him, as he was reading a post about school, he could have a bit of his old life back. It was bad enough he hadn’t visited Thailand since he’d left. This little bit back...it was, in some way, comforting to him despite everything that had happened two years ago.

Maybe it was the time away which had helped soothe things, so he could handle and enjoy this, he’d had time to grow and accept what had happened. Even if he hadn’t even considered dating anyone, and didn’t have any friends, he was ok with things.

November 29, 2019 (Back dating a bit)

It really had been a long time since he’d been off his first social media pages -so much had happened. It felt like more than two years, which was a long time, had gone by. His one friend, the only one on his old facebook account, who liked the same dramas he did was on. For a moment, or several, he did hesitate in messaging her but he decided on a private message. It had been so long he didn’t think she’d remember him, despite being such good friends online, but she responded back quickly.

She was happy to hear from him, she had been worried, that was when Boon-nam was quick in explaining what had happened two years ago - why he’d left. He told her everything, leaving nothing out, as he wiped at tears and jostled his glasses to do so. He hit the send once he’d written everything - and waited.

It felt good, refreshing in a way, to tell someone what had happened - what he’d felt. He got to finally open up to someone and tell them what he’d been called and how he’d felt. What he’d almost done to himself...that his mothers phone call had saved him. He almost wasn’t here. He was better though, he had told her that at the end. He was in another country with family, who also didn’t know the truth, but he was doing better even though he missed being home. He just couldn’t visit, he didn’t want to risk anything - he was scared.

When she did respond it was with more than a little support and upset, at his friends, but she was glad he was ok even if he’d vanished without telling her. She understood and was happy to see him again.

The conversation continued from there, as it used to, though she would mention shows and ask if he’d seen them, and he’d do the same. They were catching up on who had seen what, with Boon-nam making a list in the note program on his computer. As he added a few series’ to the list he knew she was adding one or two as well.

As they continued to talk she mentioned having a discord group of friends who all watched such dramas, some were male even, but they all shared series and would even watch things together while having a voice chat open so they could talk during the show together. He was welcome to join, even if he wasn’t living in Thailand currently. He was still Thai, so language wouldn’t be an issue, and he was a fan of such dramas. Without much hesitation, figuring he would be more than safe with such a group, he agreed to join her discord server.

His social media life was really looking up, he was reclaiming parts he’d lost. He just hoped he could enjoy it again, like he used to, even if he didn’t have a lot of friends on this account anymore. He could deal with that. He had one friend again and he’d missed her.
