The Only Black Uke
Never once did Nyko consider the very public nature of their argument. He was mildly aware of the attention they'd garnered from the musicians awaiting their audition, but it hadn't occurred to him that others might hear him as well. While it was an extremely one sided argument - so much as the gawkers could hear, anyway- it was heated enough to draw their attention. Several tried to pretend as if they weren't listening, while others looked on with bated breath.
To Nyko, however, the only other person around was Sajahka.
The only one in his new world that knew him by another name; Nicosia.
Never had he expected their friendship to sour like this. He'd always thought they escape and see the world together, but it was easy to dream of brighter skies when you were trapped indoors. It was easy to overlook things when his view had been extremely narrow, and memories of a little waterling boy, sneaking around the estate, looking to lick the baking spoon, weren't enough to calm him.
Those boys had very simply grown into two completely different men, and Nyko was ready to stand on his own.
"I thought I did too." There was so much disappointment in that one statement that his own heart stuttered. Even now his mind reeled, doubts creeping in now that his initial fiery rage had begun to simmer, but he wouldn't allow them to pass. If he did then all of his concerns would still be there, just buried until they came out again, and then where would he be? Further encased in this mire he'd built up by putting his dreams on hold, and that thought was enough to snap the bitterness back into his tone.
"Yeah, guess I am pretty stupid; after all, I stuck with you this long."
