How long is it you are expecting to be in Oba?Ozzrick hesitated a moment at the question—and the supposition that followed. Under normal circumstances, it may not be
that long. Unfortunately for Tacrith, it happened to be the last trip of the ‘season’ — i.e., the trade season, based upon the weather and propensity for storms. Statistics and profit dictated that it made little sense to send ships between the two nations for trade during the worst of the storm swells, and they were already experiencing a taste of it.
Because he had been late in heading out.
It would get worse over the period of the next few weeks, and he likely wouldn’t be assigned back until the coming of spring. Instead, he expected to receive instructions along and up the Oban and Matori coast. But that wasn’t what Tacrith expected to hear, and he
was uncertain about what the Yaeli man would do with such information. There was likely no point in hiding it, however.
“I…am unsure how long it will be before I am reassigned back to Yael,” he admitted at length. “I captain this ship, but I am not in command of my route entirely. The vessel itself is owned by a trading company which I work for that dictates my ventures and how long they expect each to last within some window of reason. Most captains make a select few trips per year and we are scheduled to avoid the worst of the natural weather between trips. It is…technically the end of that typical season and the beginning of the storm period is upon us, ‘nipping at our heels’ so to speak as you might notice…”
The winds and rain battered at his windows as he spoke, and as if in evidence of his words, a distant boom of thunder sounded.
At the latter question, however, he cocked his head. “The ship is not good enough for you?” He managed to look more amused than insulted. But in truth, he didn’t have a great deal of spare coin on him, and
perhaps he owed the man some leniences. Still. Renting a room nightly for however long they would be at port was no insignificant fee. “I can probably arrange for it as compensation for whatever additional healing services you provide on board.”
