The young man's compliments hit their mark, the woman with cotton candy hair preening at his words as she collected his offering of sweets. Closing the door behind him, she ushered the newest guest into the room of others just in the nick of time for her boyfriend to finally reappear... but with presents.
At least Chase had the decency to be late in style, it seemed. Well, as far as bringing presents went - whoever in the world had allowed him to purchase such a ghastly sweater was another thing entirely, much less allowing him to wear it. He hadn't started off the evening in it... so what in the world was he thinking?
Shaking her head to herself, Priscilla's focus returned to what really was important: namely the box with her name written on it. She was so busy with finding hers and tearing open the packaging that she missed Regan's gift - which only added to the confusion as she pulled out a hot pink sweater of her own.
It looked like a nod to the 80's with the shoulder lopsided as it was. The kittens on the front were cute, if one could see past the bright and painful shade of pink.
Prissy's nose wrinkled as she stared at it, then glanced over towards Regan's and her interesting looking.... gift.
It would take the pinkette a few moments to collect herself before she could echo a similar sentiment as the starry-haired woman's, only hers sounding a little less thankful and a little more what the heck?
"Darling, you've clearly outdone yourself."
Pulling out the sweater for her small, furry friend to see, she forced a smile as she showed the ugly sweater to her Mauvian. "What do you think, Teddy sweetheart?"

Queenie was about to take off with a nod after the two women responded, one removing a flute from the trey while the other did not. When she heard her name, however, the young woman froze where she stood as her head whipped around to do a double take.
"Ms. E-Ellis?"
She hadn't expected to see a former teacher, of all people, living it up at some rich man's party. Granted, they had employed at one of Destiny City's most elite girl's schools - but that didn't mean the teachers themselves rubbed elbows with the elite and snobbish.
"I..." Oh god, how embarrassing. It was one thing when she served complete strangers, but to have a blast from her past show up and see her like this? Judging from the way that Ms. Ellis was staring at her, she wasn't finding herself terribly impressed with the sight of a former pupil wearing an apron and serving champagne to the higher class. "I'm still in school, ma'am, I just help my father's catering service on the side to help pay for my classes."
Cheeks were stained pink as she babbled her excuse, eyes darting around to stare at the other guests in case she'd made a scene out of herself. Nobody wanted to hear about a poor college student's woes - much less bills. It was a wonder that Suri Ellis even bothered pointing her out, she felt like an insignificant bug at that point. "I should probably get back, I'm sure he needs my help with something."
A blatant lie, but hopefully one that wouldn't be questioned.
The tray of drinks had a wobble to them as she quickly turned around, making a beeline for the back room where the other staff continued to prepare the snacks and finger foods for the occasion.

Trey followed as Prissy led towards the gathering space, bottle in hand and an open, curious look about his face. He was not expecting the very small group he found, though the lack of cars had hinted at it, nor how very casual it seemed. He was started to suspect this was an even more intimate affair than he had anticipated, but despite the surprise, he recovered smoothly.
It helped that Chase seemed to have joined them at the same time he did, presents in his arms for his guests. The sweater he wore was... physically painful for the designer's son to look at, though the ironic intent behind it was enjoyable. He almost felt sorry for the women who began to open their boxes, a light coming into his blue eyes he wasn't able to hide behind the smooth, polite smile he wore.
Particularly at the irritation Prissy showed and he found, honestly, so amusing. Poor girl.
"Chase." Trey greeted as he skirted the group, offering out a hand to his host. "Thank you for having me. I'm so pleased you decided to include me in your holiday plans. I didn't realize your gathering was so intimate, now I feel doubly graced to be included."
His gaze slid over the others, taking in a quick survey to file away. Prissy, who he knew, a kitten he hadn't realized she had but didn't mind, a young woman is white to blue hair and a lovely face, and then... a familiar blonde head he had seen not so long ago, curled into a chair on the outskirts. Surprise widened his eyes, but he resisted the urge to call out to her, resolving to go and greet Suri personally once he'd paid his dues to Chase. What a coincidence that she was here! He hadn't expected to see anyone he knew, other than Prissy and Chase.
Chase waited until everyone had retrieved their boxes and were at least looking at their sweaters. If someone didn't put it on immediately (looking at you Suri) he made sure to give them a pointed stare down complete with a thinly pressed smile. When Trey failed to pick up his gift, he simply plucked it up and crossed the room over to the man and offered him the box.
"You're included in this."
He spared the younger man the weight of his gaze as he looked at the catering staff and gave a nod to the owner who began ushering out the crew. Clearly he had said something earlier to them because it was quick and without question except for the young woman that Suri had been conversing with.
"Apologies Suri, but your guest will have to leave for the time being. We have...wolfish matters to attend to." To Queenie he offered an apologetic smile.
Once she left, his attention returned to the newest member of the group. "We're rather tightly knit, you'll have to adapt to some things but you've done nothing but meet or exceed my expectations as of late Trey. That's why I'd like to formally induct you into the pack."
He glanced at Theodore, who was nestled in his mistress's arms, and his own guardian. "I'll need some aura dampening assistance, please." While it was asked, it was clearly an order.

Suri perhaps had more she wanted to say to her former student, but the appearance of Chase took precedence, given that it was his party, his house. Still, she raised her eyebrows in an attempt to look sympathetic. "We'll catch up later," she said to Queenie's retreating silhouette, and then her eyes flickered back to Chase and his array of...gifts. She watched while the others opened theirs, and at the first sight of ugly knitting her eyes narrowed, even as she started at her own wrapping paper.
"You're serious," she muttered dryly, her lips pulled into a thin line. It felt like they'd just talked about Apatite's little stunt a few years back, and yet here they were, repeating history. Suri opened the box, staring blankly at the glassy googly-eyed bird peeking up at her from under the tissue paper. "We're really doing this." Suri made a frustrated noise, but it didn't stop her from sloughing out of her own carefully-selected cardigan and lifting the new sweater over her head. There was no sense in arguing with Chase, that much was clear--but she didn't have to be happy about it, and she popped her head through the open neck of the sweater with a scrunched up frown on her face.
And then she saw Trey, and her expression faltered, from the boy to Chase and then the box in his hands. She didn't need to hear the phrase 'aura dampening assistance' to put together what was about to happen, but it confirmed a sneaking suspicion, and her stomach churned with a mixture of intrigue and concern. True, they needed more recruits, good and loyal recruits, but Trey was just a child, too young to be fighting in a war...and then she did the math, and realized he had to be in his late teens by now, and she herself had been drafted at only twenty one.
She was getting too old for this.
Suri drank her wine to cover up the pout on her face. She couldn't quite muster up the voice to say congratulations--it was a proud moment, to be chosen by Chase, but one with far-reaching implications. Her world was getting just a little bit smaller.

Setting her precious little pookums down to put on the sweater, Prissy did her best to keep her tongue in check as she fluffed her cotton candy curls from out of the neck of the horrid thing he'd purchased. Chase was usually very stylish, so the fact he found them tacky sweaters must have been some sort of... inside joke or something. She refused to admit that she would willingly date anyone with terrible fashion taste.
There was a smirk as Suri's companion was dismissed - leave it to Suri to befriend the wait staff - Prissy making a point to fluff her hair a second time as her attention turned towards the newest star of the hour.
After all, having another good looking man around in the group was a delightful prospect.

Her ears burned red as she was verbally dismissed from the host's presence. Attempting to keep her composure (as well as the shreds of pride that still remained), Queenie kept her chin held high as she nodded her head. Offering Ms. Ellis an apologetic glance, the young woman quickly disappeared from the room.

Trey took the box with a lifting of eyebrows, politely surprised to be included. It came with both a sense of triumph, being more proof that he had worked his way into Chase's circle, and a warmth of surprisingly genuine feeling. He wouldn't have called Chase or his circle friends, but he didn't have many he could call close. Being included tugged at a part of him that yearned for the closeness that his intellectual side discarded as less than useful.
Since opening the gifts seemed to be the proper thing to do, Trey worked the paper open sedately, pulling the box free to balance on his forearm as he opened it.
He really should have been prepared. If he'd bothered to look at what everyone else was pulling out.
He was not prepared.
Santa. On... a shark.
Trey laughed softly, reaching in to finger the soft material. It was another surprise to learn that Chase had a side that could appreciate tacky Christmas sweaters, and he could appreciate that. There was more depth to the man than he had gotten to see yet, he suspected. If this was any indication, then he felt far more confident in this path he was on.
The young man pulled his attention away from his gift finally as he was addressed again, still amused and only half paying attention to what was being said. His gaze sharpened though, at the mention of an induction. Curiosity flared and his eyebrows lifted as Chased asked Prissy for... aura dampening? What?
"I'm pleased you've enjoyed my company and abilities." He said as his gaze slid between the others, studying faces and wondering. Was this some kind of, like... fraternity induction? He'd never taken part, himself, but he'd heard of silly little ceremonies some fraternities liked to do. Maybe Chase liked to run his friend circle like that? Odd, but not something he couldn't roll with. "Is there something you need me to do? I can't say I've ever participated in something like this before."
Regan watched the newcomer very carefully, as a smaller redheaded girl was dismissed. Her attention was drawn back to herself and Silk as Trey stepped forward.
She hugged the guardian cat to her chest tighter, whispering in his his ear.
"He's going to do it here?"

When the request for some energy aura dampening, Theodore wiggled his way out of his mistress's arms so that he could land on the floor. His landing was perfect, naturally, but his santa hat fell slightly and he paused to push the thing back so it wasn't covering his eyes.
The mauvian was sure that Silk would scamper up quickly to please his human, but he was not about to be bested at doing one of the aspects of his oh-so important job. His paws tapped against the wood flooring as he drew himself closer towards the stinky human that made up his mistress's boyfriend as well as the leader of the team that was mostly assembled in the living space.
Pink eyes shifted across the room, sharply to Silk who would receive a stink eye, Suri who would be regarded with suspicion, to Regan who got a wrinkled nose because of her proximity to the trash cat, and to Prissy, who he stared at for longer than needed before he finally turned his attention to the two men in the room.
There was a sharp inhale and the cat was nodding. "At your command, sir." His head bowed respectfully before cat brows furrowed with concentration. It had been some time since he'd had to do something like this, the first instance his meeting and reveal of his dearest senshi he'd come to the city searching for, so it took longer than he would have liked to get into the groove of it all.
Behind him, his tail flicked and he watched the two men, specifically the blue haired one, to see their reactions. Once he was confident enough that he was doing as he had been asked and needed to do, he nodded his furry head at Chase. "Ready." If Silk felt the urge to join him, he would begrudgingly allow the other cat to lighten the load, if not...well, he was happy to take all the credit and be a shining example of how a guardian cat should behave.
It was his duty and his pleasure to serve, if only because it would make Prissy look better by comparassion for having someone so useful instead of someone so...Silk.
Chase waited a moment, as if he was trying to gauge Trey's reaction to the fact that the cat in Prissy's arms was capable of speech, among other things, before he let the flutter of chaos cloak his skin like a well worn shirt or a favorite blanket. It was easy, too familiar, to let chaos shudder through him and press up and out of his skin until it replaced the restless buzzing with the dark glove on his hand and the cloak that sat thick and heavy on his shoulders.
"I'm afraid this is going to hurt," he stated, frowning in a poor attempt to be apologetic considering his tone was anything but.
That was all he said for the moment, choosing to slide his hand along the younger man's chest until the tips were pressed in the center. Right before his hand sunk into the subspace where the starseed resided he said, "Welcome to the pack." In his hand went, glove wrapping around the fragile gem too easily.
Careful he had to remind himself as he handled it, trying to push the chaos forward as he would have with someone he could awaken as a lieutenant. It failed, and at some point anger flashed on his face when he ripped his hand back out. <********," he snapped, eyes cutting over to Prissy and Regan as if they might know something. His head shook and he grabbed Trey by the upper arm. "We'll be back," he stated, no other explanation given before they were both gone.

Aside from her own, Suri had only ever participated in a small handful of recruitments to the Negaverse, and it was not something she often discussed. Everyone's experience with the induction was different, but no matter the circumstances it was meant to be a personal affair, something shared between commanding officer and the new lieutenant. She wasn't sure what to think of the assembly present to watch Trey's reaction, even as she gauged it herself with her chilled amber gaze. It felt almost...voyeuristic, in a way.
Suri leaned back against the couch when Chase became Labyrinthite, her hands tightly knitted around her glass. It should only be a moment, just a pinch, she told herself, but her lips pulled into a frown all the same, her good leg crossed over the bad. She had to reorganize the way she thought about her world, her civilian life and the Negaverse, and how a boy named Trey Cameron was now going to intersect them both. It had taken so much work to keep everything separate--she would need time to stitch together these disparate lobes of her world, and in the meanwhile she would just have to pout about it.
But time was not a luxury available to her--Labyrinthite snapped and her shoulders tensed, following his gaze to Prissy and Regan. Her usual response would be to flinch, and she did a little when the pair disappeared, but more pressingly she fought the urge to blanket herself in chaos and make the trip to Negaspace to follow wherever the general had taken Trey. Something had clearly gone wrong, and Suri wanted an explanation, needed to be at the forefront of finding the solution, despite her initial apprehension. She had to remind herself that while Trey might have been her acquaintance, he would be Labyrinthite's lieutenant, and it was not in her place to interfere. Swallowing her pride, she dismissed the urge to fly off the handle. She was in more control of herself than to satisfy every impulse.
In the absence of letting chaos smooth out the tension in her nerves, Suri took to pursing her lips, setting her glass on an end table before her hands took to shaking. "Do you know something about this?" Suri asked, glancing to Regan. She knew better than to try and engage with...Priscilla.

At your command, Sir. Trey blinked down at the cat, surprised by the words that came from it in a child-like voice. He didn't really believe it was actually speaking... so there was a measure of delight at the spectacle of it.
How clever! He thought. It was really all he had time to think before Chase reclaimed his attention with a sweep of sudden, dark cloth. Surprise and delight shifted to confusion as things began to move out of his understanding and into something... unbelievable.
This is going to hurt?
The stranger Chase had become closed in on him with a lanky step, hand outstretched. It touched his chest, sparking off sudden concern. He wasn't sure what was happening, but instinct screamed at him suddenly, triggered by something he saw in his face, in his manner, the way he moved... something he couldn't quite define. Something was wrong and even as he realized it, it was too late to do anything about it.
The box dropped from his hands and clattered at his feet as he reactively grabbed at the wrist that... came to an end at the surface of his chest. Pain, sudden and unexpected, jolted through him, radiating outwards from that central point. It pulled a rough noise from him as he tensed, the breath knocked out of him as his mind spun, refusing to accept or understand just what had happened. He felt the hand in his chest, and he felt when it, against all logic, wrapped around something inside of him, caging it in fingers of steel...
"Stop..." He managed to gasp, afraid to move and risk the flair of more pain, body stiff and tight. Sweat beaded on his forehead as... something blossomed inside of him, some other sense of coldness that penetrated and spread... but that was all it did, and it seemed to anger Chase. Because I won't obligingly die? He wondered, the thought clear and oddly cognizant in contrast to the rest of his thoughts that churned about like frightened rabbits.
That had to be what this was... all this time, he'd been trying to befriend a serial killer and his... cult. Because the others were still there, watching and doing nothing. As though this was a known and expected thing... So ironic, all the effort he put into this, and for what? To die here...
Trey nearly fell when Chase ripped his hand out, his own pressed to what he thought would be a gaping wound but was... nothing. Undamaged, as though it had never happened.
"Let go of me!" He grated as his arm was grabbed, jerking back against an immovable grip. He might as well have been a kitten, for all the difference it made.
There was a long pause after Trey's disappearance and the possible tension of the silence was broken by a rude and loud snort from the kitten in Regan's arms.
"Let go of me!" He mimicked in too high of a pitched voice, and then cackled, as if he found it funny, because he did. Like that worked. Ever. Not!
Actually, the kitten was glad for this distraction. It meant he didn't have to put on the sweater. Like...it was...cool. He guessed...but cats weren't supposed to wear sweaters. He made fun of Lace for that already! When he was asked for dampening though, he helped provide it, all from the comfort of Regan's arms, because he was not leaving that perch if he didn't have to. Speaking of---the kitten swiveled his gaze over to Theodore.
"You're such a kiss a**." He hissed. Calling the General sir? Really? Not that he didn't deserve that respect, because he did, but he knew it was mockery coming from that overstuffed truffle filled with crap.
He then turned his attention back to Regan, and if he should have shrugged, he would. "Guess not." He replied. "Must be a senshi thing then." The kitten dismissed the subject as if he was talking about the weather, because in the life of a guardian, that's pretty much what it felt like.

Regan' brow raised at the look he sent her, as if she knew what was happening with the corruption. The only logical explanation was that Trey was a senshi, and that required a more...Regan wrinkled her nose when she thought of Laurelite and her intimidating aura....
Silk's comments made her face fall back to it's normal robotic expression, and she turned to Suri.
"Silk." She warned the kitten while she addressed the general's concerns. "It looks like he's a senshi." Her body relaxed a bit and she sat back, only moving Silk a bit so she could tuck her legs up and behind her on the couch. "The reason why he couldn't finish the job is because senshi's require....more." She sighed, "When I was corrupted by his hand, he had been boosted by the Queen."
When he returned, with Trey in tow, it was clear that the mood of light partying had turned sour. Chase, as he'd shed the skin of General Labyrinthite reflexively upon returning, stood clearly agitated. One hand was saddled around the younger man's back, providing him with enough support to keep from collapsing but his other hand was balled into a fist so tightly that his arm was nearly trembling.
His mouth was clamped shut, teeth sliding against each other as he tried to reign in whatever he was struggling with, and his gaze cut across to Prissy who would under stand the signs of his control slipping better than most before he looked at Suri.
"Things have become...complicated." He nearly hissed between his teeth, a shaky exhale giving away more of the difficulties he was facing than he would have liked. Before his team, Chase didn't like showing what weaknesses he did and yet, things were slipping as surely as water through the cracks between his fingers.
"If you'll excuse me." He more or less handed Trey off to whomever stepped up quick enough and just like he'd arrived, Chase was gone.

She hadn't known what was going to happen, not until Labyrinthite started cursing and pulled his hand from within Trey's chest. It hadn't taken a genius to put two and two together - General Labyrinthite's newest Lieutenant wasn't going to end up a Lieutenant at all.
There was enough time to sneer at Suri, who clearly had not put the simple math together to figure out what had gone wrong, and for Prissy to toss back her pink curls and set them to an acceptably appropriate state for the tacky sweater before Chase returned, exhausted looking boy in hand.
The aggression wasn't hard to pick up on, hands quickly moving out to tug the blue haired boy closer as the gathering's host decided to practically snarl as he took his leave of the night's affairs. Poor Trey looked worse for wear and Prissy had a feeling that Chase was in no mood to interact with any members of his pack - senshi especially - any time soon.
"Looks like the party is over for now, darlings."
Her smile had grown thin but the cheerfulness in her voice never wavered. Manicured nails moved to pluck invisible strands of wayward hair from off of the newest Wolf's shoulders as her attention turned to her sweet little Mauvian.
"Teddy, be a dear and fetch my purse. I think we're going to need to take Trey home and do a little explaining of things."
To the others, she turned and simply smiled, albeit a little strained when pink eyes reached the older girl. "Regan, Suri. I'm sure you understand, right?"
Naughty little Silk would get no attention from Priscilla Stratford.

Theodore rolled his eyes at Silk's mimicking of the poor man who'd been subjected to such pain such as starseed touching and had to be carted away for whatever matter Chase-- Or General Labyrinthite he supposed -- decided was apt.
His ears, however, had flattened against his head at one point, the cat doing his best to remain concentrated even though he could tell that things were going south pretty quickly.
At Silk's rude comment, he sneered, "I wouldn't have to be if you were capable of responding and doing your job." His quick response to Labyrinthite would be praised later, he was certain, and he proved that, once again, he was the better cat.
Upon Chase's return and the movements of his mistress, he hurried over to her side as best as he could be for a small fluffy cat and looked up worriedly. He wished he could help properly, Miss Prissy shouldn't have to carry the weight of the heavy man alone!
Once he'd been requested to do something by his candy queen, Theodore hurried off to retrieve it, carrying it in his maw, before he followed her out of the room.
