"Infallible!" Tacrith gasped out with a short laugh. "Nothing is infallible, Ozzrick." A sharper retort nearly continued, but he held his tongue. "So, no, not really."

The offer surprised him a little. What could the leafling possibly do to help reassure the nervous Yaelian? Tac sat silently for a moment, staring up at Oz while seriously trying to think of a good answer. He had no idea what would reassure him outside of suddenly declaring they were turning back to Yael... "Thank you. I will," he said shortly, irritated at the pleasant offer and the lack of a workable answer. His gaze darted back to the book.

"..You did mention breakfast earlier," he murmured slowly. It wasn't anything reassuring, but his appetite had been absent since their departure. Now.. a little hint of hunger was returning.

Oz smiled. He wasn’t about to argue—his was the high extreme of optimism, and in truth, the doctor was right. When it was clear the man had thought of no more options for reassurance than he had, however, he could at least manage to feel like he hadn’t overlooked anything drastic.

And food—food, he could handle.

He opened his mouth to say that if he just followed him, he could show him where their food stores were kept. But, after a half second’s debate, he just nodded, making another wringing pass at his hair to dry it as he headed below deck himself. It wasn’t a large enough ship to merit a full time ‘cook’ — they simply kept food aboard and in the evenings usually split up the task of preparing something that could be consumed communally. For the early meals, bread, crackers, or — if one was feeling personally adventurous — a self-made gruel. He opted for plucking up bread and a small cluster of fruit they’d picked up fresh on the island. Maybe that at least would be familiar.

On re-approaching Tacrith, he propped his hip against the mast, dropping the collection, wrapped in cloth, onto the man’s open book. “So, who, ah…‘back home’ is going to be having a panic at your absence?”

The man had said he lived alone, but he had an entire established life. Ozzrick couldn’t imagine it was anything like himself, and even he would have concerned a number of people if he had disappeared without any word at all.

After a glance up as Oz walked off, Tac spared a moment to take a look around the deck again. This really was his first time on the deck since they had departed... and it did not look any more appealing than it had before. What was it that had others enjoying it so much? Shaking his head, he focused on the book again. Reading an adventure novel rather than a study... was trying on his mind.

The sudden package made him jump with surprise, though he still felt relief at the sight of it. Setting the book aside, he plucked up a fruit first to chew on. Home... His chewing was slow; partly to savor, and partly distracted contemplation. "My clinic patients will worry, but they can go to other healers there. My coworkers might be concerned, but probably more due to the extra work this will give them. ..A couple friends will worry once they realize something happened. There is a chance I will have returned before they even notice though."

His main concern was one friend, his best friend, but he suddenly found himself reluctant to say that there was really only one person he thought would actually be concerned... Of course, Zekiel's form of concerned would be to assume the best possible scenario probably... A tiny smirk twitched at the thought. Hopefully, he would return home without Zekiel noticing. He did not want to have to try explaining this to the priest.

Oz watched, and he couldn’t pin why precisely he felt that while what the man said was true, it wasn’t all of it. But then, he supposed he didn’t know the man well enough yet to expect anything especially personal—and it was about the answer he anticipated, in any case. So, after his attention honed for a moment on the brief flicker of a smirk on Tacrith’s lips, he snorted, smiling himself.

“I’ll make it my goal for it to be that quick,” he promised. “In the meantime, if there is anything I can do to ease your stay, doctor…I will at least attempt. And on the brighter side of things, for the great lot of sand that it is…Oba can be a lovely place. You’ll have quite the story to bring home to your fellow…” He eyed the man, “…bookish glowbug friends. You might even find you enjoy yourself.”

Tac peeked around at the crewmen lingering around. They were Obans, supposedly. "So long as it remains as just one story," he muttered, turning his attention back to his food. Oh, right. "Thank you for fetching this," he added on, gesturing to the food before taking a bite of the bread. The "fresh" air, though it naturally stank of the sea, was apparently doing him some good indeed. Maybe this trip would at least be tolerable. ..Maybe.
