Vulpin dusted themself off and took a deep breath. Things were hectic, but they were going to survive. They would always survive. "Alright," They addressed the rest of the crew. "We just encountered a pretty strong enemy. There could be stronger ones. But I trust that all of you have the skill and tenacity to keep moving." To survive.

They nodded their head, ending their short speech. Hopefully it was enough to rouse their spirits to keep going deeper into the ship.

"Totes..." Trusci honestly looked pretty beat, but she adjusted her clothes and made sure her helmet was on right. Her sword was filthy, but whatever. She was past the point of caring. Actually, looking at her team standing there strengthened her resolve quite a bit. Vix was right; they all had encountered a pretty dangerous foe, but despite that...

She cracked her knuckles, the motion a habit. It hurt. At least she looked a little more perky for it.

Buffel rolls 2(+2) to heal!

Buffel tended to his wounds as they took this brief respite. Vulpin had made a speech Buffel had found concise and uplifting. He gave them a nod of recognition in thanks as it concluded. As he finished up with his arm, he gave a light tap to Trusci's arm.

”Hey, thanks for that heads-up back there. You were somethin' else against that thing Miss Modsat, nice work.”

The gunslinger turned over to Hemera as he did this and called out in her direction, ”You too,Miss Moachm. I could barely get a shot off on that miscreant but y'all were able to give the beast a thorough thrashing with no problem!”

In almost no time at all, Trusci made short work of the daywalker. With telekinesis, no less. Fascinating. Impressive, too. All of them, really, had been impressive in various ways. Hemera exhaled, assessing the scene. Everyone was on their feet, despite getting throttled.

She nodded at Vixeni's words, then at Buffel. Hands on her hips, Mera took another few breaths. The orangeblooded volunteer seemed pretty good with words. A shame they weren't a part of the military.

That said, Vixeni was only a volunteer. Mera herself couldn't just let their words be the end of it, as good as they were. She looked the squad over again. "Vixeni is right. We have to stay alert the moment the pod launches from the docking bay. You all did well back there. You might not feel like it; I'm sure right now if you aren't numb, you wish you were. But I saw you all fight firsthand. You struggle, you adapt, you push forward. And working together, you will succeed with flying colors. I won't tell you to keep up the good work, because I know I don't have to."

She took a deep breath. Words alone wouldn't cure wounds, but at least it gave everyone more time to breathe, whether or not they might be listening. "This will be over soon, and we'll all be stronger from it. Even if it doesn't feel like it now. Continue pushing, and help each other if one of us stumbles. Together, we are strong."

Mera heals the party for 1d4+1!

Great, was everyone going to give a speech? Still, Hemera had a point; they were a pretty solid crew, at least Trusci thought so. Also, she'd totally been the one to finish the job on that daywalker, so she let herself puff her chest out a little more. Just another night in the life of Trusci Modsat. "You said it!" She even smiled, just a little.

    But anyway, back to business.

"Let's keep the momentum goin' then!"

Vulpin quirked an eyebrow at Hemera's speech. They were being backed up by the tealblood, and Vulpin appreciated any time someone said they were right. It felt a bit odd to tack on more to what they said, but they supposed that was natural for the technical leader to try and take their place.

Humming a laugh, Vulpin continued to clean up their suit. Glancing over, they caught the sight of Buffel and his robot hand. That's right- it was a gun of some sort. "Nifty weapon you got there, Tex," They smiled, putting a hand on their hip.

Buffel rolls 1(+1) to heal!

Buffel looked up at the comment, a smirk across his face. His metal palm slid at an even, mechanical pace back into placement with his thumb, now arched backward in a trigger shape. His pointer finger opened, revealing the chamber of his finger-gun and finally all pieces locked back into place.

”Oh, this old thing?” The gunslinger chuckled at himself. ”Truth be told it's quite a new addition and I'm still a bit green with it.” He wished he could twirl his gun like he used to, it had become a sort of coping mechanism for his own embarrassment at compliments on his skill...and maybe a way to show off a little more. He'd have to see about getting something fixed up with Leeroi or Flydra about that soon.

”You had some pretty good moves yourself there with them knives though. Yer stabs are quick and low to the ground. You hunted game before ya got them fancy combat knives, didn't ya? Where'd ya frequent?” The yellowblood was always keen to get some insight on a fellow hunter's habits in the (sometimes literal) field.

"Yes...momentum." Speaking of. Everyone seem rested up, but now a couple of group members were chatting. Good for morale, but they also needed to keep moving. "Let's keep the momentum going. If we're all set, we can head out. I don't mean to interrupt your discussion, but we can walk and talk, yes?" She, herself, would not try to jump into it. Mera wasn't one to talk weaponry anyway.

Once she got her point across, and she knew no one was lagging, she signaled to go down another hall. "Let's see what's down here."

Trusci--being in a rare mood-- wasn't feeling very chatty for once. Maybe it was from their prior foe, but she was more anxious to get this mission over and done with. She flexed her hand, ignoring the way it ached as the scar tissue on her palm stretched awkwardly. "'Kay, boss.

When they started moving again, it wasn't long till they came across another door. She gave it a good shove with her foot, and when it didn't budge she tested the mechanism. "Seems like it's locked, nothin' else too sketchy goin' on with it. I rammed it down last time, ain't got time for that s**t again." She stood back with her arms lackadaisically crossed behind her head, her sword sheathed at her side.

Buffel smashes down the door! -5 HP!

The Gunslinger raised his metal hand up to the squad. Her brought his open palm into a fist. If his joints weren't well-oiled and possibly made out of organic tissue instead of metal ball-and-socket pieces, they might've cracked.

”Don't worry y'all, I got this one.”

Moving swiftly, he swung his metal limb over and over into the door, caving it in slowly. Focusing on one point specifically close to the locking mechanism, he finally felt some give in its structure. With one last strike, his limb was through the door, having ofund a hollow portion where most of the wiring for it's motion was kept. Extracting his arm from the door, he gestured to the door, showcasing his work. As he did this, the outer plat of his forearm fell off, clanging to the floor.

”Oh, uh...whoops. I'll um...I'll get that looked at when we're planet-side, I swear.”

He sheepishly picked up the part and stowed it away, embarrassed he'd be so reckless with his appendage after all the work Leeroi and Flydra did to it.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

Dice 1

2. ... Grotesque... (-1 to all attacks)
3. ... Rotting... (+1 to all attacks)
4. ... Skeletal... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
Dice 2
1. ... Armoured... (only 3 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)
2. ... Oozing... (-1 to weapon attacks that deal less than 6 damage)
3. ... Disemboweled... (-5 miniboss HP)
4. ... Swift... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
Dice 3
1. ... Daywalker Captain!
2. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!
3. ... Mutated Daywalker!
4. ... Undead Slime Lusus!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 20/20
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your second mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Vulpin was taken aback by Buffel's assumption of character. This yellowblood pinned them for exactly what they were- and from fighting language alone. Vulpin immediately felt threatened, cornered even. Thankfully they were able to mask their reaction with exaggerated confidence.

"Bars." They said, winking. Their response was curt, then they turned away from the yellowblood. Walking away, they found themself smiling at their own cover.

The crew came face to face with another monstrosity. A weird pile of slime. Knives didn't work well against slime. Plus this thing was just completely nasty, jiggling like that. Vulpin didn't want it anywhere near them. They withdrew a knife, throwing it at the creature to see what would happen. The knife stopped a couple inches deep inside the creature. Vulpin grimaced.

Running at the thing, Vulpin punched their arm into the lusus to retrieve their knife. That almost seemed more effective. Vulpin grimaced harder, gagging. This fight was going to be so much more gross than they wanted to deal with.

Vulpin dealt (5 +1 - 1 - 1) = 4 DMG

Buffel is hit by the Slime for 3 DMG and htis back for 4 DMG!

Buffel slid around the side of the thing, trying to stay under its radar long enough to find it's weak-point. He'd fought one o' these in an earlier ship as well and the only knowledge he'd come away with on 'em is that they can die, they're gross an' they're meaner than hell. He fired into it's side, his bullets sinking easily into it's goopy mass and slowing to a stop inside the beast. The initial impact didn't seem to phase it but as the creature writhed and the bullets moved, the gunslinger guessed it was the heat rather than the impact of the bullets that really pained the beast. Fully stocking his rounds again, he made tracks around the back of it as it began to focus its attention to where he shot from.

The gunslinger made a jump to a filing cabinet, but felt a gooey tendril wrap around his leg. Though not solid, it had a shocking amount of grip and the yellowblood fell face-forward into the floor with a hard -THUD-

She braced for another fight upon the closed door, and her bracelet gave muffled beeping to boot. Mera had her boomerang ready. The moment the door was down, thanks to their local Buffel, she caught sight of it. More...slime?! Very, very slimey. Mera had to wonder if it was always like this, or, as she thought, the decomposing went terribly wrong.

Not that it was time to think about it. Vulpin went in first, admirably.

Knives...did not seem to work. And Mera herself did not want to touch the thing if she could help it.

Buffel, meanwhile, got caught by it. Yes, distance would be optimal.

"Hold on!" She skidded around and tossed her boomerang at the tendril, hoping that might cut it off and let Buffel go.
