"Whoa, did you guys see this? It's a snowcone machine. Think it still works?" Cerpin slowed to a stop to check out, pouring some water inside of a strange tube. He pressed a button and the gadget whirred to life for a minute before a concerning cracking sound was heard and the eject slot opened. What came out was a weird cup full of ice and screws with some blueberry syrup on top.

He turned to Tevini to offer it but tossed it after seeing the glare in her eyes.

"Soooo... this way looks good. Commander?" He waited for a nod of approval before leading the group down a hallway. It was quieter than he expected on this ship. The previous ones had been smaller though, it was possible that the traps and zombies were simply more spaced out with all the extra room. When Lorata wasn't looking, he caught Forera's eye and made a stupid face at her to crack her up. The two of them together were like naughty schoolwigglers if left undisciplined!

The tealblood followed the group behind Cerpin, pleased at finding an empty hallway. She noticed Cerpin looking at her, and had to cover her mouth so as to not bust into laughter through their excursion. She did, however, flare her nose and make an almost impressive motion at him with her tongue and her hands before any of the other two could realize it. She coughed, almost running into the door near her. "L-looks like a door nearby!"

Lorata looks to see what kind of door! The door seems to be ... trapped and locked!

Lorata was still furiously trying to smooth her hair back out to the perfect state it had been in before the apparent mercenary had gone and gotten her hand in it. Clearly sulking at her generous offer being turned down as well, she followed along behind them as they picked a corridor, then frowned at the door. "It's trapped. Again."

Lorata's silent order was noted and Tevini set to work on the next trap. She noted the sea dweller didn't look just mad at the door but a little defeated as well. Had something happened to her in the past? The red blood wasn't sure how to bring up the question without sounding nosy and thus decided against it. She finished dismantling the trap and hoped that would improve the commander's mood.

"It should be safe now." She declared and reached to try the handle. Nope, it was locked on top of having been trapped. Stepping aside she nodded to Forera to erase it from existence.

Tevini got it again! Rera's slapped her back lightly in appreciation. "Good on ya, Curls! My turn!" Forera rammed the door with her massive body, cackling all the while. She burst through the door, only to cringe at the smell. "What tha'..."

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

Dice 1

4. ... Imposing ... (+1 on all attacks)
Dice 2
1. ... Armoured ... (only 1 player per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)
2. ... Virulent ... (2 extra dmg taken for each round in battle)
3. ... Burning ... (take an extra 2 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible))
4. ... Wall Climbing... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn, as well as each time you deal max damage(highest roll possible))
Dice 3
1. ...Undead Three-Headed Woofbeast Lusus!
2. ... Reanimated Helmsman!
3. ... Zombie Gerbil Horde!
4. ... Amalgamite Abomination!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 40/40
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first, second or third mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your fourth mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

(using def trinket)

Somehow after everything she had faced, all the different combinations of undead trolls and gerbils and slime, she'd neglected the possibility of facing off against more common lusus types. Lorata stared at the lusus, trying to find a way to get in close enough to attack without getting hit by one of its heads. Why did it have to have three? She only just barely managed to click on the defensive shield of her trinket in time to block a bite that likely could have taken off part of her arm.

Tevini was so used to checking the ground first for a hundred undead evil little gerbils that she started there first and wasn't prepared for the three headed undead lusus.

That could climb walls?!

"What are you!?" She cried indignantly as it slammed her down and she struggled to avoid getting bitten in the neck. Rolling away, the girl fired some shots to try and keep it at bay while she looked for a way to take it down. Her head was ringing from hitting the floor so hard though and it was hard to focus.

"Ngh! I can't-" Tevini clutched her head and stumbled to lean on the wall. She tried to call forth her psionic energy but the ringing was still too loud. She felt a bit dizzy and tried to steady herself. Ugh this was so embarrassing, she hated how quickly she fell whenever she thought she was finally getting the hang of things. Oh stop it don't cry now!

Wiping at her face, she swallowed and tried to simply stay out of the way for now while she waited for her head to stop throbbing.

"Hey, are you okay?" Cerpin grabbed Tevini by the arm, concerned about her. The more they did these missions together, the more he found himself worried she was going to get hurt or emotionally spent. He knew she didn't have a lot of self confidence nor a strong will to stick around and fight. That meant it was up to him to protect her and be her shield and blade. She needed him to be the strong soldier while she stayed in the back lines keeping the brains of the operation safe. If she got hurt, it would hurt the entire space program.

That was totally the reason. Yep. That was why he was beating the s**t out of this thing.

"Keep your chin up, alright?" He swiveled his wrist to loosen it before bringing his blade up and charging after the enemy. He was going to keep it far away from Tevini and Lorata. Forera would be fine on her own. He cut away at it with a series of quick slashes, as fast as he could with such a large cumbersome sword anyways.

Oh no, this fight wasn't going well at all. Lorata strained against her shield, grimacing at the sight of the sharp teeth beyond it, then gasped as it began to flicker. She'd nearly used up the first charge already? Before it could fade, she jumped back as far as she could, then readied her partisan again. Staying too close wasn't the right move here.
