Startling upon hearing Leeroi, Elidae looked at him with blinking eyes before giving him an almost fretful reassurance. She waved her hands frantically. "Oh yeah! Oh no, I'm good! I'm okay! Why- do I seem not okay?" She gave him an imploring look.

Then, Elidae heard the familiar sound of daywalkers shuffling in the distance and following after, Hifumi grabbed her arm to warn her. She glanced at her moiral, who seemed eager to take a step back again and showed no concern. "Got it! A few daywalkers won't rain on our parade!" Elidae called back with a grin, unlocking her scissors into two blades. She knew they were fully capable.

Knocking back a daywalker with the heel of her boot to its chest, Elidae sent it flying back, but did minimal damage on the number of them.

Leeroi grunted, shoving Kursha intentionally and hard as he moved past him to take on the zombies. He steadied his shotgun and fired at the mass. Six daywalkers collapsed to the floor from the shock of the blast. Easy stuff.

He glanced back at Kursha for a short moment, not waiting for a reaction so much as judging him harshly. What kind of leader didn't fight alongside their team? Not one that Leeroi wanted to be.

The word kiddos resounded in her thinkpan uncomfortably. She was probably twice his age, yet he was acting so high and mighty. Vremea kept her lips curled in a tight smile. The end of this ship seemed so far off.

Elidae eagerly jumped in to slam a kick into one of them, while Leeroi shot a couple down easily. Vremea cleaned up the rest of them and kept quiet at the blueblood's judging, averting her eyes from the aggression. At least she knew she wasn't the only one here with a distaste for Kursha. He was intentionally acting like a p***k, and Vremea did not appreciate it. Flicking off any zombie residue off her scythe, the yellowblood moved along to follow the others, fairly nervous about being in space and avoiding glancing out of any large windows.

Leeroi pushed past him, shoving Kursha into the wall. The greenblood collided with force, scrambling to regain his footing. He felt the sting of a bruise from where Leeroi had elbowed him. There was no way that had been anything but intentional. His eyes narrowed momentarily and he shot an annoyed look after the blueblood. Even so kept his mouth shut. He would not give him the satisfaction.

His face quickly reset, and he watched the trio dispatch the enemy with ease. Leeroi took the lead again to no surprise. Still, Kursha felt a twinge of disappointment. Leeroi performed as well as Kursha expected he would, but the others needed to step it up, or his thinkpan was going to swell.

“Good work,” he said briskly when they had finished. He did not so much as acknowledge Leeroi's behaviour. “Let's keep moving.” Striding past the others, Kursha took the lead, guiding them down a hall in silence.

Elidae's brows furrowed when she looked behind her, seeing Leeroi shove into Kursha with alarming force.

"Hey! That's your captain!" An uncharacteristic sharpness to her tone cut through the corridor. Elidae's lips formed into a tight line and she stared hard at the blueblood, thoughts threatening to escape into words. She might not have been the most observant troll, nor did she posses a perfect memory. But she was learning and far less oblivious than her younger self. Her eyes narrowed in on Leeroi as he blasted away daywalkers with ease, memories from a dark time she seemed to have tucked away at the sight of a handsomely scarred face. What Hemera said to her came back full force.

She followed after Kursha once all the daywalkers were taken care of, coming up beside him. Her remembrance sparked another memory, only this time, about a different scarred face and his treatment of Leeroi in the past.

"Are you doing this on purpose?" She asked firmly, only in Kursha's spongeclot shot. Glancing up at him, she didn't smile, but her expression remained open.

Quote:
"Doing what on purpose, Sergeant?" Kursha replied, keeping his gaze fixed ahead. "You don't think this experience has been educational?" After a beat, he glanced towards Elidae out of the corner of his lookstub.

The yellowblood kept her gaze on him and refused to look away, but dropped her head slightly. Referring to her as Sergeant felt... unnatural. It was always Eli, Eli-bug, among other variations of terms of endearment. However, considering their environment... it was appropriate.

Taking a deep breath, Elidae lifted her head and straightened her back. "It is, Captain."

Looking ahead, she then glanced over the door and realized she didn't have much skill at this sort of thing, but she had some guesses. Her cheeks turned a faint shade of gold, despite trying to feign confidence.

"Hmm... Can someone take a look at it? I think it might be trapped...!" Elidae stepped aside for the assistance.

The yellowblood shuffled forward after Elidae found a locked door, but her eyes could not see the telltale sign of its unlocking. Vremea pursed her lips, squinting at the door before humming lightly. "I-I think, um, it's a little m-more secure than the last one, I-I, can't find, c-can't... Unlock it..." She tried to look a little disappointed or sad, crossing her arms, unsettled. Maybe they knew where it was?

Leeroi didn't bother waiting for an order. He preferred breaking the door down before Kursha told him to. Waving the girls away to clear the area, he studied the door for a moment, taking a deep breath. He slammed his shoulder against the door, breaking through on his second charge.

Stumbling in, he wasn't surprised to find another horrible creature waiting. "Hey team," He called back. "We've got another problem here."

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

3. ... Rotting... (+1 to all attacks)
4. ... Skeletal... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
Dice 2

2. ... Oozing... (-1 to weapon attacks that deal less than 6 damage)
3. ... Disemboweled... (-5 miniboss HP)
4. ... Swift... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
Dice 3
1. ... Daywalker Captain!
2. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!
3. ... Mutated Daywalker!
4. ... Undead Slime Lusus!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 20/20
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your second mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

"Hey, thanks!" Elidae commented briefly to Leeroi after slamming into the door, cordially. She hesitated on putting her hand on his arm, but decided against it, turning her attention to the newly found "problem". And it sure was one.

"Looks like it might be difficult to get a good hit, be careful!" She called to her other three teammates, and went ahead on her attack. In a swift motion, Elidae threw a smaller pair of shears from her pouch, aiming and hitting exactly into its visible eyesockets.

The minute she mentioned the door was too secure, Vremea saw the blueblood push past her and slam himself into the door, knocking it down. Vremea's eyes widened considerably, and she was about to ask him if he was alright when Elidae burst into battle and Vremea figured she should probably help her out some. Her scythe pulled out again, the yellowblood lunged and attacked the monster easily, unimpressed. It was amazing how Kursha was not doing anything but watch. She knew he was strong, but this was ridiculous.

Leeroi smacked the daywalker with the butt of his shotgun. It wasn't very effective, but actually hitting something made him feel a bit better in the moment. It leaned in for a bite, and Leeroi gave it another good smack on the head.

Glancing around at the team, Leeroi couldn't help but notice their fearless leader was waiting on the sidelines again. He sneered, turning back away to continue pummeling the daywalker.

Leeroi steadied his arm cannon again for another blast. At the last second, it jammed. Just then, the daywalker clamped on to the same arm, clambering over Leeroi. The blueblood didn't panic. Instead, he fumed.

He turned his resentment back to Kursha, his anger finally bubbling up to produce words. "Hey benchwarmer," Leeroi spat, fuming. "Get off your ******** a** and help!" He said, still shoving the daywalker off.

“Me?” Kursha asked, face innocent. He pointed to himself. “Okay. Sure. Since you asked so nicely.” He unslung the rifle from his back. Removing the safety, he loaded six cartridges into the barrel and took aim. A moment later, there was the report of gun fire, as several bullets landed near Leeroi's feet.

Kursha grinned, watching Leeroi hop and dance around with amusement. After a second however, he reigned himself in. He had played around long enough. The daywalker captain refused to go down and could cause trouble if he allowed for the fight to draw out for much longer.

He loaded a fresh round into the barrel amid Leeroi's indignant shrieking. “Hey, step back,” Kursha said. He took aim, muzzle of the rifle lining up with the daywalker's torso. There was no need to wait for the perfect shot. “Bye.” He pulled the trigger.

Bang! The daywalker burst into flames as the round exploded. Pieces of fetid meat spattered across the walls. A sizzling sound and the acrid smell of burning flesh filled the air. With a cheerful whistle, Kursha stowed the rifle across his back and skipped across the remains to the next door.

Leeroi seemed agitated and angry, and for good reason-- Kursha was just adding more fuel to his anger. At this point, Vremea had no intention of being apart of this drama. It was inevitable to watch it unfold-- Leeroi hissing at him, Kursha reacting a lot more dramatically than needed and shooting at his feet before using an explosive bullet and over killing the zombie. Vremea had definitely taken a couple steps back, crossing her arms uncomfortably. She had expected something along these lines. She really had. Shuffling over to Elidae to check up on her, Vremea stayed quiet, uncomfortable. It was times like these Vremea had too much to say, but Hifumi could not speak.

After Elidae's body was thrown back by a particularly strong blow from the daywalker, she fell against the wall. While trying to collect herself so she could finish off the daywalker, she heard the sound of gunfire and her head popped up. Kursha?! But-

"What are you doing?!" Elidae shouted amid the bullet fire to Leeroi's feet. After he shot his round of explosives, Elidae covered her face as the daywalker was engulfed in flames and she was pelted with the rancid flesh as a consequence, mimicking her own feelings of anger and anxiety. As she stood there dumbfounded, Hifumi came to look over her, but Elidae's thinkpan whirled.
