Albii, huh. All right, time to play with them a little bit and...

Oh, there was a door, wasn't there. And it was not locked... Uh oh... They didn't have anybody with trap expertise with them, did they?

"Wait - don't just go through the door!" she called out, trying to stop them, "It could be..."

And then, Chiara went through.

"... trapped." Gas hissed around them, and she cursed internally. It wasn't good, honestly, they needed to be more careful...

Chiara sputtered and flailed her hands in the air as the trap was sprung. Unfortunately, it had also sprung all over her team mates... She frowned, that.. well it had not gone exactly well. It was fine tho, everything was fine. She had a trinket on herself that would heal some1 up, and to boot she had some other things, for just in case. This was just a snag, really.

ATTACK N/A

As soon as she saw her teammates being gassed, Zeylla made the decision to just...stay out of the room. Or at least, she would have made that decision if Chiara hadn't jerked her inside with them. The gas was too strong for her filtration system to handle, and she gagged on the burning metallic taste on her tongue as her sight got fuzzy and her thinkpan woozy.

Thankfully it was a one time burst, and the air slowly cleared.

Still, she would have rathered not been involved in this heap of trouble they were jumping into. There was something moving in the shadows before them. As her eyesight cleared, her stomach dropped...no, it plummeted...

"All right, this isn't terrible." Psykgi said. They were still operational, and no one had died to the airless void - which meant that she was still smiling.

"It's progress anyway... Ooo, what do we have here?" She peered inside. "Daywalker! All right," Hey, why not have a fight? It had been going a little too smooth. "It looks a little off - lets get in formation and..." Wait, did none of them seriously have ranged weapons?

Well, fine.

"And by that I mean lets take that ******** apart - Chiara, you're pretty fast, so keep it moving - it doesn't look too smart. Alibii, you and I will get it from the sides."

-----

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...
JAWLESS ARMORED SHIP COOK!

Dice 1
1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks)
2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls)
3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)
Dice 2
1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP)
2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
3. ... Armoured... (only 2 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)
4. ... Burning... (take an extra 1 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible for weapon or damage-dealing skill))
Dice 3
1. ...Undead Ship Cook!
2. ... Mutated Daywalker!
3. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!
4. ... Daywalker on Fire!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 30/30
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your third mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

It was a thing! A big gross ugly thing! It wasnt something new, exactly, but it was something unwanted. Chiara was much more interested in defending her totally legit reason of bursting through a door she didnt know was trapped than being wailed on by some gross yucky monster. She wanted out of this trapped room, and out of this area. She put all her frustrations into one punch, take that monster!

Oooh yeah! That felt good. "Take THAT!" Chiara said as her attack hit the monster, sending it back a few steps. She let out a whoop of adrenaline, and jumped up and down a few times like a boxer getting ready to go in again. Sometimes, violence against mindless dead things was a good change.

She may have flopped on the undead from before, but now that her filtration system was pumping clean, non-gaseous air, Zeylla was ready to take this nasty creature down. She glanced at Chiara as the older troll moved lightly on her feet, bouncing with energy unbridled by battle, and felt her own bloodpusher beat faster, her eyesight sharpening as adrenaline kicked in. With three solid strides, she entered the undead trolls proximity. Her fist pulled back like a tightened spring, and with a snap she swung out in a hard left hook, her fist cracking against sloughing tissue and brittle bone. The thing's face looked half caved in, one eye now sinking into it's shattered socket. Zeylla leapt back as it swung at her, laughter echoing in the coms as she felt the rush of battle sweep her up in a glorious thirst for violence.

"Show us what you got, fearless leader!" she cackled, offering the redblood a shot at the jawless troll, and definitely notbecause her ribs started throb in the spot where she thought she had dodged it's aggressive swipe. Nope, not at all.

There really was something about a military-grade axe that was just better. Better handle, better blade, better grip - better everything. It was just a joy to wield and even more of a joy to smash into the daywalker's undead flesh.

Which was gross, but whatever - She'd faced much worse... on fire.

She could see it, the boss was getting tired. Sure, she was getting a little tired too, but they had this! They could do this! Chiara still felt in the moment, in the battle, and she went to strike again, cutting with her Katar the monster's leg off. Good thing these were zombies, it would be a lot more gruesome, and weird, if they were gonna mutilate other trolls like this.

Zeylla whooped as her teammates to their turns at the undead, her energy rising as the bloodrush over took her. She had spent so long with her lusus, never allowed to take violence up against other trolls. Sure, as she aged, she had scuffles with trolls; little fights that were barely considered violent, but never had she seen so much blood. Never had she felt something crunch and collapse beneath her fist.

It was exhilarating.

Zeylla came around quickly enough though, as she realized her fists had pounded through the shattered skull of the daywalker, and were now beaten sore from slamming against the metal of the hull. She stood calmly and shook her hands to alleviate some of the pain and remove blood and little bits of...troll. She was sore, but pleased.

There was something to this fighting, something she really liked.

Cpl. Psykgi Mentha
As the daywalker finally fell, Psykgi began to clap. It was muffled by the suit and by the lack of proper atmosphere, but it was a gesture at least.

After a battle like that, the first big one on the ship, they needed something. And, as the leader, that fell to her.

"All right team," she said, feeling a rush of flutterbeasts in her stomach as she did this. Holy gog, she was in charge of a group of higher bloods (well, Alibii was hemoanon, but chances were good that the volunteer was a higher bloodcaste because they usually were, and she sure didn't act like a redblood.) "We did a great job back there - lets keep doing that."

But she couldn't be vapid and empty about it... she had to give them some sort of motivation. She was motivated by prestige and by - maybe - getting some more rank marks on her shoulder.

But them...

She had just the thing.

"So, how about a little deal to keep things interesting? Whoever performs the best gets treated to dinner and drinks on the very nice Civisect boardwalk by yours truly!" Sure, she was a redblood, but she could afford it (Especially on a military salary!) and it would be a great chance to poke around a trolls mind. Either of them - the stranger or Chiara (whos mind was always interesting) would be fun. Nice view, good food...

Of course, Chiara could afford really higher class joints, but Psykgi figured that her charming company would be enough additional incentive. Also, screwing over a redblood - she was pretty sure that Chiara liked that, and Psy didn't mind providing.

"How does that sound, hmm?" She gave them a moment to think about it. Of course, if they both did shitty, then she'd retract the offer but she didn't expect that to happen.

These cosmic balls of ice and dust, which were about the size of all of the four fronds, and traveled about a bazillion miles per hour before they eventually vaporized, are some of the smallest objects yet found outside our own solar system. Except for trolls, they were smaller, yet they still traveled far and wide throughout the universe. Wasn't it amazing to be a troll?

ATTACK N/A

At their leader's little offer, Zeylla threw a smirk in Chiara's direction and snarked (playfully?) over the com, "You best give up now Chiara, that prize is all mine," though the dinner was less exciting then the chance to take up a challenge and win against her fellow companion. It would be entertaining to take an easy win right out from under the blueblood's nose. Something to tease her about later, when she was back to being herself, and not Alibii.

Chiara was actually quite rallied by Psykgi's speech. The redblood really had some things in her that she hadn't shown before. The blueblood felt both a little bit better, and a little more intrigued. "That was pretty cool, Psykgi." Chiara said, moving in real close to the redblood. "Your just full of fire and surprise." She tilted her head to the side, moving her voice to a whisper. "Maybe you can show me more later..."

With that speech out of the way, she took the lead and beckoned them forward, enlivened by the whole encounter. Gog, she loved fighting. It was so much fun!

Still, it was different fighting these things without her Moirail - that feeling of blissful abandon wasn't there, and she didn't feel as safe... speaking of which, she really needed to see if she could get a pick me up - her filters were getting a bit... Bad. Something must have gotten stuck up there, and eww.

First though, she had to see what lay ahead.
