She was distracted, taking in the state of her apartment and the pile of dishes in the sink, the bags of fast food remains spilling out of the garbage can, and the papers strewn across the counters. As she looked at everything, she could picture Pops perfectly as he might’ve been worrying over her and her long absence.
“R-right.” She stuttered fumbling for her phone while he closed the door. Her hands shook as she tried to text her dad, letting him know that she was home, she was okay, she was sorry for scaring him and, finally, told him that Akio would be staying the night.
After spending nearly all that time by herself, she wasn’t willing to be alone.
Akio had swept her up against and she looped arms around his neck. “No, I just need you.” Rory surprised herself with how firm her voice was and how much she felt certain about this. “Thank you, for coming to get me.”

“I need you too, baby,” he found himself murmuring as they ascended the stairs. For a brief moment, he hesitated, worried that his need for her will spook off his girl once again - god only knew how she'd reacted when he'd slipped the L-word - but having her disappear like that had quickly made the young teacher realize how much his heart depended on the teenager.
Entering her bedroom, long legs wasted no time in depositing her atop the comforter as he climbed in alongside. Unable to hold back his thoughts, he confessed, “I was really scared I'd lost you, Aurora.”
There was a quiver to his voice as a hand lifted to brush her hair back. He couldn't take his eyes off of her, as if he was scared she'd disappear again if he did. “I'm so glad you're okay, beautiful.”

Rory didn’t let him go.
Even as he deposited her on the bed and climbed beside her she was holding onto some part of him. She could feel the need to cry starting to bubble and she took a shaky breath. “I’m sorry.” She didn’t know what else to say.
“I didn’t— “ Her voice shook too badly for her to finish and she simply crawled into his lap instead. Small hands framed either side of his face and she drew him to her for a kiss. “I’m sorry Akio.” Her voice was steadier this time.
Drawing his head down she pressed their foreheads together. “I love you.” There was nothing but absolutely certainty in her voice when she said it. “I’m sorry I scared you and I’m going to do my best to not do it again okay?”
She knew that as long as he remained in the dark there was no way she could make any promises about her safety.
“But I love you, so I promise I’m always going to come home somehow okay?”

His hand moved up to cup her cheek as their foreheads pressed together, unable to resist keeping hold of her somehow, some way, by any means possible.
Each apology was greeted with a soft kiss. While curiosity ate at him, gnawing at the back of his mind as to where had she been and why she was in such a disheveled state, he was more grateful than anything else that she was here in his arms again.
“I know you didn't mean to scare me and I'm sorry to put that sort of worry on your mind, but-”
Akio paused as his tired, frazzled brain processed everything that his girlfriend was saying to him. Eyes widened as his jaw slacked, ever so slightly.
She said it a second time and he held his breath, heart thumping in his chest like crazy. It hadn't been a mistake. Could she have said it because she felt bad for worrying him? Did it really matter?
She'd said she loved him.
Arms moved to wrap around her, pulling her flush against him as he buried his face in her hair. “I love you too, Aurora.” His face was submerged in locks of turquoise but his voice was clear, words heartfelt. “I love you so, so much.”

Her lashes were lowered, cheeks flushed from the kisses and her confession. Unable to look at him she bit her lip and tried to control her shy grin. She couldn’t stop the squeak when he tugged her forward and buried his face in her hair.
In her chest her heart fluttered.
“I know handsome, I know.” Her hands stroked his back and she leaned her weight into him. “I’m so lucky you love me.” That she knew as the absolute truth.
With some effort she turned her cheek and pushed him back so she could kiss his cheek, then the tip of his nose. Small hands pressed against his chest and she coaxed him backward. “I love you Akio, but I also need to rest. You can shower me with love later okay?”
It was easier to play off his neediness to mask her own but she felt warm and safer than she had in sometime. Seal’s Eye was a persistent ache in her chest, but at least Akio soothed some of the ache.

If he was embarrassed at his smothering tendencies there was nothing revealing in the way he looked at her after her insisting nudges. Instead, tanned fingers loosened their grips while remaining attached - she could get all the rest his poor princess desired but she'd be doing so in his arms.
“Sorry,” he offered, though obviously anything but sorry for his affectionate displays. “You get some sleep, beautiful.” As much as he wanted to remain close at all times, Aurora’s needs came before his own.
“Can I make you something while you sleep, maybe?”
Maybe he'd be able to help her get cleaned up and looking less disheveled before her father made it home. God only knew what the terrifying man had to say….but it didn't matter, not right now.
Nothing mattered right now other than the fact his Aurora was home and the surprising revelation that she loved him.

Her arm had crossed his middle, pulling him closer as she snuggled into his chest. Her actions made it clear that he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere. “I will and you’re going to stay here and be my pillow.” She clung to him more tightly.
“Stop trying to weasel away Akio, I know you want to stay in bed with me so stay,” she huffed irritably. Her exhaustion was quickly settling in her small frame and she wanted nothing more at this point than to curl around him and get some rest with one of her favorite people.
Rory shifted once to push herself up and kiss him. “Come on handsome, your dragon princess just wants to sleep nestled with her fairytale prince, okay?”

Akio bit his tongue, refusing to argue with his petite princess on anything. Hands wrap around her smaller form and he keeps her pressed to him, finding a comfortable position, like pieces of a puzzle sliding together, before one tanned hand moved down to fetch the edge of one of her throw blankets.
Covering the both of them up, he allowed himself a deep exhale before closing his eyes. Lips found her forehead one last, chaste time before his head moved to rest on the pillow alongside hers.
“Whatever my heart desires, she will receive.”
It took a few minutes for him to fall asleep, nestled alongside his tired, very alive girlfriend - but when he finally managed to slip into his own dream world, he did so with a wide smile lingering on his lips.
